Here's the new thread!
Squee-eeze those muscles, or squee-ee-eeeze those babies out!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
aethelfleda · 09/12/2011 12:56

misree I cannot believe that there is justification for inducing you without a medical reason prior to your due date. Babies who "aren't ready yet" often don't like being induced anyway, and all the trends in obstetrics are to try to reduce unnecessary intervention, not increase it!

If they suggest it again say "I think I misunderstood you there: tell me how long AFTER my due date you would suggest an induction. If it's before my due date I would like a solid concrete medical reason WHY. Preferably from an obstetric consultant. Can you get me one please?"

msbaublestwinkle · 09/12/2011 13:46

Oooo...lots of show now! Am going for a walk.

MissRee · 09/12/2011 13:53

I'm not sure if she's booking me for early induction or just booking me in for when I'm overdue - to be honest, I was too shocked to ask. I will certainly be telling her that I'll not consent to induction until I'm AT LEAST 41 weeks though, thats for sure!

I just felt a bit sad cos it was like she was saying she had no confidence in me labouring naturally iykwim? :(

OiMistletoe · 09/12/2011 13:55

Tee hee msb, looks like you might scupper the Christmas party plans after all! Chrimble Karma!
No contractions here yet. Sad

KateKringle · 09/12/2011 13:59

Congratulations itsy

Lovely photos Honey he's a cutie Xmas Smile

Oi Just to warn you, when I had DD my waters were gushing for a whole weekend, I couldn't believe how much there was! Hope yur contractions start soon.

All good news MsB and with the added bonus of the Christmas party Karma Xmas Grin

Well, last night's positivity seems to have gone and I'm back to wondering when on earth baby might make an appearance. Plan to go to Milton Keynes tomorrow and see the Red Bull celebratory event. I'm hoping the sound of F1 cars going by will blast the baby out

msbaublestwinkle · 09/12/2011 14:11

Big fast circles on the ball are working for me oi

Have made chilli with DD2 (she loves chopping mushrooms!) and my Mum is coming round in a couple of hours. With DD2 my contractions sped up as soon as my Mum got here to play with DD1, am hoping history repeats itself!

TheFirstNoelChinchilla · 09/12/2011 14:34

HLCC he is edible. Oh what an absolute cutie- want, want!
I am such an old granny when it comes to baby photos, could look at them for hours.

However, this does bring up the irrational terror that mine's going to be really ugly and I'll have to nick some random person's baby pics off t'internet and pretend it's mine....

Congratulations itsy- did you plan to stay at home for as long as poss, or was it a slightly frantic rush at the end? Delighted to hear he's so lovely- pictures please!

All sounding good msb, and well done for crocheting at the same time (not a line I thought I'd ever have need of writing....!)

If they induced you and then you started labour, would they not let your DH stay in that case tinsel? It may be worth checking to see what the situation is in that case, as it may be a big weight off your mind if they would let him stay- apologies if you've already done this, just trying to think of things that would lessen the crapness of the situation!
I'm dreading the long night(s) in hospital without my OH, and will tell him to keep his mobile next to him so I can at least talk to him overnight- not sure if you could do that too?

I'd be torn aethel between ensuring the oven was sparking, hard baking something to the bottom, or just presenting her with cleaning products the moment she arrived with a grin and a big 'thanks!'

Had a luuurverly nap this morning, and am now washing baby's things and all our clothes...and will get to making the sauce soon when I can be arsed getting out of chair and off MN

MerrySorelip · 09/12/2011 15:27

Congratulations itsy! And good luck to those with contractions. Mine seem to have disappeared completely. Oh well. Gives me more time to waddle to every eating establishment that I've meant to go to for ages, and stuff myself. How much weight can I gain in 9 days - place your bets now!

Falalalalababy · 09/12/2011 15:28

Hi all, I am stuck on the anti natal ward. I came in yesterday for a BP series and it turned out that my blood pressure was very high! So they kept me overnight and told me I am not going home until the baby comes. Today they said they will now induce me because I have preeclampsia

I know I was ready for the baby, but this is not quite what I was hoping for!

OiMistletoe · 09/12/2011 15:33

What do you know about inductions? I'm almost too scared to ask?
My community MW said, after the sweeps, that if I had to be induced, they wouldn't use hormones as my cervix is fully effaced and dilation has started. She said they'd just break my waters. Obviously the waters have now gone, so what are they likely to do to me tomorrow morning?
And, they brought a portable scanner to me, and were surprised at how low the babies head was (as was I) - it can't have that far to come. Does that mean that labour, when it starts, might be quick? Thanks for any advice!

bennybenbear · 09/12/2011 15:40

Hey OI I just got back from the hosp (since half 9 this morning!) and I'm booked for an induction a week today (earliest thy could do luckily). Will be trying every method before then but cervix was totally posterior and baby not fully engaged so sweep was ineffective Sad

They gave me leaflet on induction and it says at your stage they will give oxytocin in a drip to stimulate contractions. Hope it gets going soon for you and if not hope it goes well tomorrow. Doesn't look like I'll be seeing you on postnatal ward after all!

TheFirstNoelChinchilla · 09/12/2011 15:46

Heavens falalalala, that's a bit of a turn up! Not much you can say to pre-eclampsia, other than bloody good thing they spotted it, you and baby are in the best place, and good luck with your induction.
Sure everything will turn out OK.

I know precisely sod all about inductions Oi- the only thing I've picked up from reading all the threads is that some women say they were glad to get an epidural in before being induced, as the contractions can be swift and strong. Not sure if that fits in with either of your birth plans?

mopsy and hoho have started an induction thread on childbirth, so may be worth looking on there. MN's own section here:
www.mumsnet.com/pregnancy/labour-and-birth/membrane-sweep-and-induction

Good luck to you both.

ThePippy · 09/12/2011 15:47

Hi Everyone. Wow so many babies!!! Huge congratulations to all the new mums.

Here is another one for the collection... Thoman Benjamin was born at 1.30am on Tuesday weighing 7lbs. All happened really quick - started eating dinner on Monday at 8.30 and immeadiately started getting contractions 2 mins apart. Was in the car within 30 mins and waters broke on the way to hospital. They didn't even triage me (just said "yes, obviously in labour") and when they examined me I was already 9cm dilated. 30 mins later I was transfered for constant monitoring for the baby as his heart rate was eratic, and they said I was fully dilated but he was still very high up. I was then pushing for over an hour with no progress, so ended up with a spinal and foreceps. All a bit rushed and mad compared to the lovely serene water birth I had with DD, but the outcome is still good.

Last 3 days have been a blur of tiredness and constant feeds, but little Thomas is a very good baby and DD has been amazing with him, which is more than I expected given she is only 2yrs herself. Bit of a shock how strong the after pains are 2nd time around though (didn't feel them with DD) and all the little details of looking after a newborn are coming flooding back.

Anyway hope all the other new babies are doing well and I am cheering for all you who are still waiting to meet yours.

Falalalalababy · 09/12/2011 15:47

They are gonna give me some sort of pessary to ripen by cervix. If that doesn't work they use an iv of a fake oxytocin which causes contractions. Apparently this means u are strapped to a fetal monitor, have an iv and any hope of active or water birth or using a birth centre is dimished. Plus i heard the contractions are so painful it almost always leads to an epidural.

So much for all my hypno birthing etc. I am quite upset that I have to be induced. At least I am 38 + 5 so the baby is term.

msbaublestwinkle · 09/12/2011 15:52

Congratulations pippy hope you're recovering well. Plenty of paracetamol for the after pains (erk...not looking forward to them!)

I'm pissed off with DP. After all of his moaning about the sodding night out...he is now suggesting that he 'just goes for the meal' then comes home. I don't fucking think so! I have been up since 3am and need him back to take over with the DDs so I can go for a sodding lie down before it all kicks off!

OiMistletoe · 09/12/2011 15:53

Congratulations pippy!!!
hurrah!
Pop pop pop indeed!
Ok, from what you say lala the water/pool birth may be out if the question. It doesn't sound good. I'll look at the link to the other thread. And keep bouncing on this ball and hope that something starts.
Good luck lala, let's hope our experiences are happy ones. All the best.

AReindeerCalledHorse · 09/12/2011 15:57

Congrats itsy & pippy!
Honey, love the name Rocco! Annoyingly have a friend called Rocco so can't use it ourselves, glad someone else loves it!

Good luck Falala, hope you don't have to have an epi.
Saw MW today, LO heartbeat is still mental and she's going to sweep me next week (39wks, which should mean no christmas hospital stay, hurrah!), do they normally sweep before 40?

Tinselperion · 09/12/2011 16:09

Falala (((hugs))) when they moved my induction date up a few days I just felt like everything I had been doing was a total waste of time, but it's not! The hypnobirthing in particular is still a great technique to help calm yourself down, lower your heart rate and your breathing. Just yesterday I was doing the calm breathing when the OB did her cervical exam because it hurt like hell - thank goodness I had practiced otherwise I would probably have either cried, cringed or flat out panicked.

Anyway back at 34 weeks I was on a prenatal ward with three other ladies on the drips being induced because the pessaries hadn't worked - the midwives kept asking them if the contractions were manageable and they were all fine, contractions not too strong and none had epidurals, even after they were all in labour.

(((more hugs))) for you and hope all is well, whatever happens - can't wait to hear your birth announcement Grin

kri5tycringle · 09/12/2011 16:29

congrats pippy :o another one yayyyyyy

lala good luck for the induction!

bec... get moving on that ball girl!!

msB hopefully tonight is the night??!

oi i know how much you wanted an active birth, but if you have oxytocin you may need an epidural as it can make it very painful... (sorry its not happy news, just something to think about)... but as Tins said it will be manageable just like on the ward :o

I have sent OH out for infacol... poor Saul is getting trapped wind, wish i had tried breast feeding once i was a little better, but in reality there was no way i could have managed until a couple of days ago :(

Im going to put more pics on later! Im a little down there are hardly any of me holding him :( he has grown so much already, and i feel like i have missed out on the first 2 weeks with him! Sorry that ended up in a "me" post!! Not intended...

Hmmm LMH can i borrow your pompoms??! I am giving them a massive shake now for everyone!!

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 09/12/2011 16:48

Pippy Congrats on the birth of Thomas Smile

Hope those who's waters have gone will have babies by tomorrow morning.

Well I've walked everywhere today! DD school had their Xmas Fayre today, unorganized chaos is what it was. However, we did come away with things DD made, She also won the YR2 Xmas hat competition Xmas Grin and shockingly we won a Kenwood blender in the raffle Grin

Hoping all this walking brings on some contractions and not just BHs!

OiMistletoe · 09/12/2011 17:15

Kristy cheer up sweetheart, you have plenty of time to make up for those lost few days, and take lots if pics now that you're recovered and feeling better. Chin up!
Hope you're feeling happier soon.
Thanks to all for the advice, links and good wishes. X

kri5tycringle · 09/12/2011 17:23

Thanks vanessa :) i have some strange fixation on him not being a newborn for long Hmm strange, i guess its the baby blues lurking!!

Anyway Mrs i want you rolling around on that birth ball, walking upstairs side ways the lot!! I want Gingerbaby here tomorrow please! Saul wants a baby date!

OiMistletoe · 09/12/2011 17:29

I'll do my best! Xmas Grin

LittleMissHumbuggery · 09/12/2011 17:39

The pompoms are public h so help yourself kri5ty

Congratulations to pippy

Shattered today. No energy! Was school Christmas fair. Dodged the politics and crowds and just did my bit by providing tea to people as needed. Going to have to slow down at some point. I'm walking and trundling about as normal and it's killing me. I go so slow now too!

Off to make kids dinner, then I have a date with a bloody hot bath to ease the pain on my knee and hips! Hope those of you in the early stages have a progressive evening, and that mrB does as he is damn well toldWink

Sparklywine · 09/12/2011 17:48

Sorry to crash onto this thread, I wanted to say a big good luck to Oi, we met in the Trafford Centre a while back and ate cake - now look at us! I am 39+3, nothing happening yet, still just eating cake. Anyway, I will keep track of you and little Ging from now on if I can stop reading the Nickel thread, and am keeping everything crossed for as relaxed an experience for you both as possible.
Hi too to Kris5ty who managed the largest cake despite being tiny! I've not read the whole thread but looks like you're a mum, congratulations!
I hope we can all meet again soon (you too Bennyben), good luck to everyone on here!
Xmas Grin
