Hands around a mixture of V-shaped pillows, pregnancy pillows, and re-arranges the glittery vom buckets ready.

Gets the jelly snakes going, along with some Cadburys for good measure, and a strategically placed fruit bowl to disguise the unhealthy choices.

Flicks the duster round, sinks down into a comfy sofa and awaits the rest...

NinjaChipmunk · 24/11/2011 12:58

ooh real your due date is my birthday!
We've not really had much of a names convo yet but I like Toby and Sullivan for a boy and am currently liking Clementine, Tabitha, Maeve, Matilda, Niamh, Edie, Laurel, Phoebe, Romilly, Thea, Kitty, Poppy and Rae for a girl. No idea what dp likes as he won't think about till after 12 week scan which I suppose is fair enough.

GenericDietCola · 24/11/2011 13:10

Real we are due date buddies! Wow re 8/8 - that's amazing that women will be booking ELCS to get an 8/8 birthday!

pommedechocolat · 24/11/2011 14:05

I love Thea Ninja but dh vetoed it like he vetoes all my names.

I guess I shouldn't be so surprised we've got a good proportion of high riskers on a No Brooking thread! Good not to be the only one with lots of scans/appointments/meds and worries like I am among my real life mummy friends though (although obviously not glad that you are high risk all the high riskers!).

pommedechocolat · 24/11/2011 14:11

Loving 'go away now mummy'! Scarlet!

NinjaChipmunk · 24/11/2011 14:13

Right i've sacked off work as I'm too snotty so I'm off home to drink hot lemon and honey.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 24/11/2011 14:32

Thea is an excellent name, Ninja because it was DD1's. I wish I could find another I like as much. I also like Tabitha, Laurel and Kitty on your list. I like Sienna, Amber, Emily and Sophie, but I am put off by the popularity of Sophie and Emily. I don't want a name that is too out there, but at the same time I want one which is a little unusual. I have an unusual name (for a Scot, anyway) and I like that, even if no one can pronounce it on first go. Sorry you're not feeling well - enjoy resting!

Real, somebody was telling me just yesterday that I ought to try to get my ELCS on 8 March because 8 is lucky in China! She said 7 was unlucky, but my birthday is the 7th of Oct, so I disagree. Still trying to work out what name means sheep!

NinjaChipmunk · 24/11/2011 16:04

Oh dear, I appear to have completely lost the internet on my laptop. I have no idea how to sort it.

musicalmrs · 24/11/2011 17:01

Congratulations Real, and welcome to the thread! :) It was exactly the same for me - only DH and MN knew (and I wanted to tell MN as soon as I tested, at about 11.30pm, but think I resisted until the next morning in the end!). We only told the next people - DH's boss and my work - when I was in hospital, and it couldn't be avoided!

I think I'm lucky dream and scarlet - my DH is happy to discuss names! We currently have lots of girls names and very few for boys. We're also undecided on how many middle names we want - we have a different number each, and each of us naturally wants the same as we've got. Could take us a while to agree..!

Then again, Biscuits, maybe I'll have Bungle. Will the brookers be fighting over the name? ;) Actually, it just makes me think of Rainbow. Zippy, anyone?

Still no heating Wants?! Any idea how long you'll be waiting?

dream, hope you have more luck with DD tonight. It must be so difficult after having a good sleep routine for it to be destroyed by her being ill :( I'm sure you'll get her back to it though..

Have been 'craving' (probably just wanting!) a Costa mint hot chocolate since the weekend, and have finally gotten my hands on one. So many calories, but so good...

Wants3 · 24/11/2011 17:11

Just got back from uni lectures ( it was warm there!) it wipes me out so I have just chucked a pie in the oven and DS1is going to make his speciality cheesy mash! At least we will have warm tummies this evening. We might need a new pump so it depends how long it takes to get it and find a time to fit it! DH is stressing big time over it(and everything else it seems) so I hope the wait is not too long.

MeconiumHappens · 24/11/2011 19:22

Congrats generic and real. Great to have you here :)

toddler taming (c green) is a fab book. Used to be a nursery nurse in a past life, we used that book in advising parents on sleep/toiletting etc issues.

Two weeks today til 20 (19) weeks scan, its so unreal that Im nearly half way. All those negative wee sticks fo 8 days after AF due...who's laughing now pee sticks!!!

dreamfeeder · 24/11/2011 19:46

Ohh, hooray meconium, I think I'm nearly half way- 19 weeks today. One is kicking as I type (though already they don't seem to have the same sleep/wake times...hmm!) Especially as I hopefully won't be allowed to go past 38 weeks though the consultant may have said 39, but according to NICE its 38 or even bigger risk of placenta failing
Glad you think that book's good- it's on it's way to me now Grin

And we all showed those pesky pee sticks who's boss, oh yeah!!!

wants, no heating is my worst nightmare as a 'cold' person anyway- I have the heating on and my cheapo slanket!!! Hope it's fixed soon for your and DH's sakes.

Right, got to have a quick bath- DD seems to be giving in at the bedtime battle to DH Grin Grin, must make the most of my opportunity!!

jaggythistle · 24/11/2011 20:04

ooh meconium your scan date is the same as mine! anyone else for a scanathon? :) I am kind of nervous again for the scan, seem to be more nervous overall this time.

congratulations and welcome real!

i am totally worried that i am putting on too much weight. feel like bump is huge compared to last time and i am a right bloater. if you stuck a pin in me i might fly round the room though, i am so gassy! my appetite seems to be calming down, fingers crossed i don't end up super whale sized. Blush

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 24/11/2011 20:05

Ooooo I'm on my way home from work and I was just offered my first train seat! It was very exciting. I suspect it's less to do with my still not-too-obvious bump, and more to do with my grimace of pain plus clutching of bump at an unexpectedly hard brake by the train driver. Still, it made me smile! I'm taking this as "a sigh" that it's time to start wearing my baby on board badge, yay!

Sorry for the me me me, but I'm pulling into my station now. Will post properly later.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 24/11/2011 20:27

Ooooh, Meconium and Jaggy, my next scan is the 8th as well! Mine's at 9, then consultant appt at 9.30. Hopefully Bean's kidney will have fixed itself by then - and hope I get given the date for my CS.

Jaggy, I am also huge compared to last time. My bump is covered in lots of padding, sigh. I think my tummy button is beginning to flatten out already, which didn't happen for ages last time - more like 30 weeks than nearly 22.

Yum, mint hot choc sounds yummy, Musical. DH got me a gingerbread latte this morning but forgot to make it decaff, so I felt a bit bad. Not so bad that I didn't drink it, mind!

Dream, enjoy the bath! Hope DH gets DD down and you can just lie back and relax.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 24/11/2011 20:30

Sorry obviously I meant "a sign" below, not sure how it become "a sigh"?!

Jaggy & Meconium my old scan buddies! Unfortunately I can't join you on this one. My "20 week" scan is actually on week 21, making it AGES away on the 19th Dec. I couldn't resist the Xmas wk date when they offered it, so I didn't try to make it any earlier.

Sorry to hear Scarlet's DD has joined the no-sleep brigade! I hope both you and Dream have a better night tonight.

Loving all the halfway talk! I'll be 18 weeks on sat, and in keeping with my 36 week "goal" I'm choosing to consider that halfway!

Hope you manage to stay nausea free in this pg same as last time Real!

Wants3 · 24/11/2011 21:30

I cannot believe I am 15 weeks today! It helped that they moved me forward a week at the scan:) I have got to wait until 5th Jan for my next one. I will also be 21 weeks scream
we have managed to get a tank of hot water so looking forward to a bubbly bath tonight:0

jaggythistle · 24/11/2011 21:41

oh, can i have a go of a vom bucket please. i had an unexpected one last night which was so vigorous that i burst some blood vessels in my face. glamorous!

having searched a bit apparently this is quite common.

I'd been fine for a few weeks as well.

dreamfeeder · 24/11/2011 22:02

jaggy, I remember the unexpected voms that stayed with me until I had DD last time! I burst 2 blood vessels in my eye this time- totally glamorous, I agree. I wouldn't worry about the weight- last time I got worried I was eating too much, as I was hungry and eating all the time after the m.s settled, and remember stressing I was only meant to have that measly 300 extra calories a day in the third trimester only Shock. I think you need to eat if you the need the energy, as long as you're not eating for the fun of it just because you're pg and 'eating for two' I think it'll be fine. I did a bit of that too- I don't need a dessert, I'm quite full, oh go on, i'm eating for two...

scarlet, here's to peaceful nights for us tonight. Couldn't face my tea so hungry again already. Quick toast run and bed I think- I'm knackered after work. And disappointed. I'm really trying, but it is not possible to fit all I have to do into 2 days. Stayed an hour and half late today, and still didn't finsh my paperwork/reports. Plus I love seeing the kids, but finding it very hard to do less-was some fairly unavoidable manual handling today of an 11 year old post major surgery- so no little titch- and a very difficult situation to say no in at the time (with both parents present and another physio who didn't think it was unreasonable). Braxton-hicks ahoy!

MeconiumHappens · 24/11/2011 22:53

woop for getting moved forward a week by scan wants!

Where did you get the 36 week goal from scream? If your baby is two weeks late its going to feel like forever! Im aiming for a 42 weeks goal, baby by then please! ;) Aww for getting given a seat, little bumpy is a priority customer Grin

Yay for scanathon on the 8th and xmas scan time for scream on the 18th. Anyone else coming up soon? Speaking of coming up soon, yay for hawthers maternity leave, baby incoming soon!

Maternity uniform arrived today, it is MASSIVE. Like, truly phenominal. My husband has the eyes on the fat trousers for his xmas dinner, they are just spectacular! I am reassured that no matter how beefy i get i will fit in them! Have now cleared out all things that wont be wearbale in the near future after having a mini meltdown trying on things that wont go on. Everything is now belly friendly :)

hmmm dream i am not impressed by your work, especially a colleague not stepping in and saying wooah no way dont do that. Really poor show.

Biscuitsandtea · 24/11/2011 23:04

Evening all.

Dream - I also am a bit Shock at your colleague not stepping in, but I will remind you of what you said a mw said to you - you have to be the advocate for those twins and yourself! . People wouldn't necessarily know that it might give you BH if you do the heavy lifting so if there is any alternative to you doing it, sometimes you're just going to have to say that you can't do something Confused.

Doing something like that is worse for you, with the whole BH thing than it would be for say me in your position. If I overdo it I might be a bit achey but no BH. Therefore in that respect, and given the nature of your job you're gonna have to be tough.

I know how hard that is too as you like the job and don't want to do 'half a job', but others won't know the intricacies of your pg and what your limits are.

And frankly if your employers are expecting you to do things that your body thinks is too much, it isn't you being work shy! If they can't make adjustments to help you, you'll need to see the mw or gp I think.

We can't let you take any risks!!

I hope that isn't too harsh - I say this all only with concern for you Smile xx

I've forgotten what everyone else has said now.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 24/11/2011 23:39

Bah! Fed up of not sleeping! Feeling LOADS of movement tonight though. Just had DH try putting his hand on my bump for a while but he can't feel anything yet.

Meconium my 36 week goal is based on the completely irrelevant fact that my mum had both my siblings and I all at 36 weeks! On this highly spurious basis I'm hoping it runs in the family and I'll have my LO at 36 weeks as well! On a slightly more realistic note I am scheduled for a 36 week scan to check the position of my fibroids, if they haven't moved I'll be booked in for a ELCS at 37 weeks, so it might be close! I'm just gearing up for 36 weeks in the vain hope I can convince my body to be ready by then!

Dream I'm also very Angry at your coworker for not even offering to do the heavy lifting for you! Is it worth having a word with them now, trying to get them to be more supportive at future appts? I know you should speak up at the time and say you can't do it, but I also understand how awkward something like that can be! It's not nearly as serious as your situation, but recently I was invited to a client dinner and I should have declined on the basis that I knew I wouldn't escape until at least 11, and I'm a zombie from about 9! I couldn't do it though, I just went meekly to the dinner and coerced DH into driving into central London to pick me up at the end! I know that's nothing like as hard as your job, and I'm not carrying twins, I just wanted to say I do understand that getting your coworkers to realise it's not business as usual can be awkward.

Hope all the LOs are sleeping better tonight!

Biscuitsandtea · 25/11/2011 08:11

Dream I hope my post didn't come across as too hard last night - I agree with scream that I do realise its really tricky when you're in the situation and everyone else just expects you to do it. I just worry about you my lovely xx

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 25/11/2011 10:54

Dream, did the BH come on last night? Hope not. I agree with Biscuits, Scream and Meconium - your colleague should have stepped in to say no! One of my colleagues wouldn't let me push small drawer units on wheels at about 14 weeks in case I did myself some damage, which was a bit OTT, but it was very nice of him to be concerned. Perhaps you could talk to them and explain that you get very strong BH from exertion and it is very worrying - maybe they just don't realise what effect it has on you. Hope you can get something sorted out soon - good luck!

Scream, DH felt a kick this morning for the very first time! I think his impatience was part of the problem, though - he gets bored and takes his hand away too fast. I'm 22 weeks exactly.

Meconium, Grin at mini-meltdown over clothes not fitting. That was me last time, getting very cross. I hate that period while your real clothes are too small but maternity clothes are too big - made me v grumpy.

How did the sleeping go last night, Dream and Scarlet? FX for a good night!

I suppose I'd better get up and see if I can persuade DH to hoover the living room. The MW is coming today and hoovering and mopping the kitchen yesterday made my hips ache all night. Waiting for a new memory foam mattress to be delivered today - yay! I ordered it nearly 2 months ago and it has taken ages.

NinjaChipmunk · 25/11/2011 11:07

my symptoms have completely disappeared Sad I'm not so bloated but still a bit fat but I don't feel anything else! I know I shouldn't be worried as I was exactly the same when pg with ds but its eating away at the back of my mind. When I went for the 12 week scan last time I remember thinking they were going to think I was mad as there would be nothing in there. How am I going to cope if its another 3 weeks away? Sorry for the wobble, I'm just not quite sure how to deal with it.

RealLifeIsForWimps · 25/11/2011 11:08

Generic Can't believe you're 3/8 as well- I was trying to work out your DD from the other thread but my maths failed me. I shd add that I am only due on 3/8 as per the MN due date calendar, and not any trusted medical source Grin

Tooimmature Agree it's crazy re 8/8 stuff- the Chinese are a hugely superstitious nation, and apparently all this shit still works if you "fix" the result via having ELCs etc. Anyway, 7 isnt unlucky AFAIK. 4 is the unlucky number- buildings don't have 4th floors etc-, so basically I should pray I go into labour on the 4th as then the hospital will be empty Grin

Scream Better pass that bucket back. I don't want to tempt fate!

Anyway, a question for the second timers? Are you finding you are showing a lot earlier than the first time? I swear I am not going to be able to get my jeans done up by Christmas whereas with DS I was still slinky at 20 wks. My mum just emailed me and asked me what I want for Crimbo. I really wanted to say "some Top Shop Mat jeans" but that might raise her suspicions somewhat.
