Rach69 · 04/01/2006 16:45

Yes v.true Eshay but sadly it never seems to work for me! It won't stop me trying though This may be tmi for some but apparently (according to my big sis, a mw) the best thing is nipple stimulation (v prolonged and both together!) and ahem... swallowing the stuff (apparently absorbed even better through the gut than on your cervix - although that makes no sense to me, think it was a man who thought of that one...)

Eshay · 04/01/2006 17:00

The sad thing is that all those things sound hugely unappealing to me at the moment...

Mum2OneAndBump · 04/01/2006 17:15

LOL Rachy about your Dh & the wheel barrow.

Eshay - i have to ditto what you have said all those things are far far from my mind & also my last resorts.

I am taking the RLT but have been for about 2 weeks now so nothing there, gonna try the pineapple, just cant bring myself to eat curry have been off it since i fell pregnant and have not touched the stuff i think i really will be sick if i even try.

I resorted to the Castor oil with ds but i was 10 days overdue & due to be induced which i really did not want, will only resort to that again on desperate measures, not that it was a bad experience in fact it was all good, but i think it has to be the very very last resort.

Off to cook dinner now, i am shattered just slept for 30 mins while ds watching scooby doo, i reaaly do need to start sleeping, resting my body seems to be shuting down at the mo.

sweetkitty · 04/01/2006 17:44

The things we have to resort to will have to try some sort of position that doesn't hurt, have to think of a way of getting the erm stuff in there without the friction involved!

Got a little nap when DD did this afternoon but could have stayed in bed all night.

This baby was 4/5's engaged 2 weeks ago but I think she bounces out and in of my pelvis as the pressure comes and goes.

Hi Mak - good to see you!

OP posts:
iris66 · 04/01/2006 18:14

SK - do you have a turkey baster? lol

Just got back from hosp & have induction booked for 23rd as they don't want me going over 40 weeks Guess we're definately going to have to go for it now!! Though I still haven't found a pineapple
Scan results were good (apparently he's 7lb 5oz +/- 4oz)& the consultant was pleased with my sugar so I don't have to test so often now (yippeee)

Mak - have you tried optimum foetal positioning techniques? (one of which is being on yr elbows & knees with your backside in the air - stay there & sway whilst watching TV) that & pulsatilla (homeopathic remedy) worked for me!

Mum2OneAndBump · 04/01/2006 18:26

SK - know what you mean about staying bed all night i feel totally the same today.

At 34 weeks it says on my notes the head was engaged 4/5 then at 36 weeks it says it was FREE so looks like my head has been bouncing in and out, will find out where it is tomorrow i am sure that its breech i dont think its a head at all!

lyra41 · 04/01/2006 18:49

i think 4/5 means 4/5 palpable, which means 1/5 in the brim on the pelvis, the rest above.

just got up from a nap, really overdid it today, walking loads to try to hurry things along, but i don't really want to start labour knackered. hope i start in the morning when i'm refreshed.

Mak

I have some pulsatilla in the cupboard if you want me to send you some. cat me if so.

Rach

i dont know if i can face a bj, even if it is the best thing, altho dh would be extremely pleased at the thought!

BBWBabeLisa · 04/01/2006 19:08

This is a bit of a long intro so feel free to switch off/fall asleep. Totally new to this, but hoping I'm adding my message in the right place. I signed up yesterday but been unable to get it to let me post til now (hence the huge intro post, I've been adding to it every time I've thought of something else to say over teh last 24 hours). It's so exciting to see all of you in the same boat more or less. I really haven't had much opportunity to meet other mums to be, at my parentcraft classes the couples tended to keep very much to themselves.

I'm Lisa, 32 years old, Jobcentre Manager but on maternity leave (which I plan to follow with a 5 yr career break), army wife living in Aldershot, expecting first baby (thanks to Persona machine!) on 27th Jan 06 (so 36 +5 today) but being induced on 10th Jan (at 37 +4 - OMG THAT'S LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY!!) due to a multitude of complications including (but not exclusively) extremely overweight (which makes it difficult for them to monitor Lola's heartbeat - 20 stone pre-pregnancy, reckon its a miracle it happened in the first place), Type II Diabetes (pills controlled pre-pregnancy, on insulin & metformin thru preg), Obstetric Cholestasis (on Urso & Vit K and being monitored every other day), Group B Strep, Severe SPD (crutches from 20 wks, wheelchair from 28 wks, but seems to have improved incredibly from 35 wks). I was due to be induced last Thursday at 35 +6 but when I turned up with my bags packed the consultant said my blood results showed the bile acids were back in normal range so as long as Lola was still moving well he'd decided to hold off a bit longer. My parents are flying down from Glasgow on Monday night to be here for the birth (Mum will be in with DH and me while step-dad dog-sits). My mum flew down last Wednesday night in preparation for the induction that was called off at the last minute but this time at least we know it's a definite go-er til she pops out.
20 week scan said we're having a girl (hence Lola) but I've read too many scare stories to fully believe it now (it's gonna be a funny dressed boy if the scan was wrong!).
Scared witless at the prospect of being induced in under a week. Even more terrified at the prospect of being a mum! Most terrifying of all tho was seeing a consultant yesterday whose limited grasp of the English language contributed to him using the term "dead baby" 10 times in as many minutes. I know he was just trying to make us aware of the potential consequences of all my complications (as in...."if this happens...dead baby....if that happens.....dead baby") but jeez do these people not get training in tact?? He then wondered why my blood pressure went sky high!
I noticed a few of you are planning on using re-usable nappies. I got a bit of a bargain on ebay (I'm addicted - entire nursery kitted out from there), I'd read some reviews in the mags and decided I wanted to use the OneLife nappies, but couldn't quite justify the almost £300 price tag on their web site for the birth to potty hamper. So I put a saved search on ebay for it and sure enough after a few weeks someone listed a brand new and unused hamper (she'd ended up using disposable after buying the hamper) on Buy It Now for £180 inc p&p. Has anyone else tried the OneLife brand?

Also wondering, if nipple stimulation helps bring on labour would it be worth having a play with my electric breast pump pre-induction?

Anyway I'll stop rambling for now, I think my introduction's gone on long enough .

Good luck to all of you also due this month and I hope I get a chance to get to know some of you before we all pop!

Lis & LolaBump xxx

lyra41 · 04/01/2006 19:29

Hi Lisa

Welcome to the thread. look forward to getting to know you and Lola better.

Rach

If it were true about the prostoglandins being more effeciently absorbed via the gut, wouldn't they give them orally in hosp as a pre induction rather than via pessary?

Mum2OneAndBump · 04/01/2006 19:31

Hi Lisa & welcome, Well you have had a bit of a ruff ride haven't you?

I see you are just down the road from me i live in Surrey.

You must be so excited? i remember being pregnant with my son, i could not wait, this is my second baby due in 2 weeks i will be 38 weeks tomorrow really want it out now! I was also told we were having a girl i have gone a bit mad on the pink so if it is a boy he will be wearing/sleeping in pink but hey ho!

Goodluck with your induction, can not answer your questio about the breast pump but i will be interested to see what others say as i have an electric breast pump too so would try anything to help this baby out as having a 3 yr old that hardly sleeps and as so so much energy i am really finding it hard now in these last few weeks.

Anyway i really hope everything goes well for you & congratulations, love the name by the way.

Stay with us there will be lots of support & suggestions for you on here all the way through & after you have given birth.

Goodluck & take care xx

iris66 · 04/01/2006 19:35

Hi Lisa!! and welcome aboard. Poor you with all that to contend with! Good job babies are worth it and only a few more days to do eh! Certainly makes my (very very minor) niggles & frustrations pale into insignificance
I've not heard of the One Life brand of nappies but tbh I made my mind up which ones I wanted fairly early on & stopped researching. I think most makes are much of a muchness these days anyway so I'm sure they'll perfect, and what a bargain!!

Lyra - think I will "forget" to mention Rachey's tip when I prime DH for action too (I'll test everything else first thanks Rach )

Mak - good luck with your appointment tomorrow!!

Georgie should be back online tomorrow night and is joining us in the natural induction session. (Bet someone goes into labour tonight though [hopeful emoticons all round])

Am going to have 40 winks watching/dreaming about Mel Gibson Catch you tomorrow.

iris66 · 04/01/2006 19:37

Lyra - good question!!! I knew there's be a get out clause for me

Eshay · 04/01/2006 20:16

Hi Lisa and welcome to our group. I live so close to you - I am in Farnborough! And with Mum2oneandaBump living in Surrey we could have a mini meet-up.

Mak · 04/01/2006 20:25

Hi to Lis and Lola.
Iris have tried OFP, but I think this one's really stubborn. Just had a call from therapist who said she'd do moxibustion and acupuncture asap. Just need to phone her after tomorrows appointment - so I'll ward off the consultant for hopefully another week and give her a whirl.
What does pulsatilla do - I'm not very good on the homeopathic front? I have to be careful because of previous CS that I don't over stimulate uterus and cause too much pressure on the scar, hence the reason that induction will not be offered unless desperate (previous consultant said he wouldn't, this one said as a last resort).
By the way, the more experienced labourers of you, when is a BH not a BH and the real thing?

lyra41 · 04/01/2006 20:37

mak

i'd say a BH turns into a contraction when it's really painful, you can't keep up a conversation while it's going on and they narrow to about 5 mins or less in between.

can anyone else add anything?

Mak · 04/01/2006 20:55

The reason I ask is that I 'seem' to be having BH's every 7-8 minutes, but they don't seem painful enough! So I don't know whether it's wishful thinking or my pain threshold is too high (is there such a thing?)I do tend to put up with a lot of pain before I do anything about it IYKWIM.

lyra41 · 04/01/2006 20:58

Mak

I'd be amazed if they were real contractions when they're so pain free, but it is quite possible. Even if they are real contractions, you'd probably want to stay home until they become much more painful wouldn't you? you can always phone the hosp if yo're not sure.

JenJam · 04/01/2006 21:04

hi just being nosy --- i'm from november 05 thread.

mak, early on my contractions were not that painful (liar liar i can hear you all thinking) but it's true, i felt kind of period painy with extra pain when tummy went rigid. got to 7 cms with that kind of pain over a 10 hour period and kept thinking to myself 'when is it going to get really bad?'

well really bad bit kicked in once i was fully dilated and baby felt stuck and contractions infrequent.

so you might be in early labour!!

very exciting for you!!

good luck everyone bringing babies into the new year

sweetkitty · 04/01/2006 21:08

Mak - I go through about half to an hour of regular BHs, don't worry it's true what they say you will be in no doubt when the real ones kick in. They will be regular and will take your breathe away. Fingers crossed for you though.

Iris - pmsl at the turkey baster, I said to DP last night can't you just erm get it over and done with and not bother with me think it's a mans dream come true. I honestly cannot be bothered with all the other stuff right now but need his contribution. What a topic?

Lisa - welcome to mumsnet and the mad and chatty Due in Jan thread. Are you originally from Glasgow? I live just outside there now having spent 8 years down South. I have a DD called Abbie who's 17 1/2 months and am due DD2 in 8 days. I too worry about the scan being wrong but hey if it pops out with a willy he'll have to wear pink for a few days thats all. Sounds like you are having a horrendous pregnancy, I have SPD and SI pain (joints around the back) had it from 15 weeks last time too. Not as bad as to need a wheelchair but it's no joke. Good thing is mine disappeared the minute the baby came out so fingers crossed.

Am off to Holland and Barratt tomorrow for Clary Sage oil and carrier oil, more RL tablets, arnica and try and source some pineapples.

sweetkitty · 04/01/2006 21:10

Yea I forgot to say that one of my friends had NO contractions until she was 6cms. First baby and she had no pain relief.

My waters went first then contractions about 2 hours later, I had no build up went straight to 5 mins apart and agony. MW said I should get some signs this time though!

OP posts:
Mak · 04/01/2006 21:18

Just what I thought really Lyra - wishful thinking . I wish they were more painful!

maman2006 · 04/01/2006 21:19

BBWBabeLisa - Welcome. I joined this forum not long ago. You can post your stats on the "January 06 stats thread... " (and this gives me the opportunity to try to do a link):
click here for the January 06 stats thread
(thanks again LittleMissRACHEYXmasBigTits for pointing me this thread a few weeks ago)

Eshay - I like the taste of RL tea very much as well.

iris66 - Thanks for the explanations regarding my homeopathics medecines.

iris66 - Won't join you on the party Thursday as I don't fancy curry any more since I got pregnant (like you, Mum2OneAndBump) and I don't want to try to trigger anything before next week.

Rach69 - I really would like a water birth, so, I won't ask for epidural unless I really really find it too difficult to cope with the pain. Waterbirth soften tissues, so I am sure it will be ... "like a letter through the postbox" (this probably sounds very funny in english as it is in fact a french expression).

Mak · 04/01/2006 21:24

Sorry been gossiping on the phone - so, there may be hope then .

But Lyra - remind me where they stick the pessary??

Have to get dh to read some of these suggestions and see if he can make a wish list

Nice to hear from some new people - welcome all Lisa it sounds like you have been through it all already, so deserve a nice peaceful time with little Lola when she arrives.

Mak - could be proper contractions - I have had similar in previous labours, but you will know when they really get going Good luck

Feeeling v tired suddenly tonight, maybe after all that cleaning... so dh & my mum are in the kitchen together cooking salmon. Yum. My mum has changed her flight to next Weds - was supposed to be leaving on Fri. Relieved that she is here for a few more days, as it is so much simpler to have our babysitter to the other 3 actually under the roof when I go into hosp!

haven't been posting much as dh has ben working on our website, so on comp all the time.

Rach dd1 is also pretty frustrated that 'Sam' as she calls him has not put in an appearance yet. She has made a present & blown up balloons with no prompting. Bless!

nitey nite xx
