Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mum2OneAndBump · 03/01/2006 23:01

Aww just before i go what a lovely & sooo true post by you sweetkitty, i know what you mean about the hormones dp says he only has to look at me & i burst into tears....

Speak to you all in the morning xx

Mum2OneAndBump · 03/01/2006 23:03

I must add though that when i was pregnant with ds, dp only had to look at me & i would feel like punching him in the head lol hes says its much nicer this time round i am emotional & not angry !

maman2006 · 03/01/2006 23:59

Didn't realise the time. Should go to bed as well but was just surfing around this site and doing lots of interesting findings while taking my evenings homeopathic medecines ;o)
Going to the 39 (+3) hospital appointment tomorrow.
No signs that labour might start soon so far and actually feeling very well as my tummy is slightly smaller than average.
My mum was visiting me for Christmas holidays but she has to leave the day I am due (08/01)... she was hoping the baby to arrive before she goes but the baby seems to have different plans ;o)
Will see within a few days.
By the way, anyone has beliefs that the moon has impacts on births? When is the next time the moon might induce births? What is the moon like within the next few days?

Eshay · 04/01/2006 08:45

Can you tell all of us must be on maternity leave now? So much posting! And I finally feel I am able to keep track of things a bit better. This does, howevr, require the computer to be on all day!

Yesterday I finally packed my hospital bag. Well, most of it anyway. I still need to wash the old baby clothes and put in a few suits for the little one to wear. DH says not to panick, baby doesn't really need clothes, a blanket will do! Can you believe that? He must have forgotten there's a huge difference between a July baby like DS and a January one like this one. This one will even get to wear socks and a hat!

I am pleased to announce that Thomas went to bed without a squeek last night and slept right through like his old self. What a relief!

I'm still not feeling all that ready for baby to come out so I might give the 6th a miss. I'll help you guys along though, Maybe there's a special dance we can do.

We have various scenarios for DS' care too, some better than others. If there's a panic in the middle of the night we can ring a neighbour, but she's quite elderly so I'd rather avoid that one. She wouldn't have to do much, just be here in case T wakes up, but I'd still feel a bit bad for ringing her in the middle of the night. Hopefully nothing will happen till 8am on a weekday as T can just go to nursery then. That's the ideal situation. MIL will come too but she's not all that close and has to catch various trains and be collected from the station. If worst comes to worst, we will just take T to hospital with us until MIL arrives. He loves the antenatal waiting room! I try not to worry about it too much as my body seems to have no clue as to how to make babies come out so it will be ages yet

Spub, I am so happy for you. I was just thinking the other day how difficult it must be for those who were in our thread who had a mc now that January has arrived so I'm really glad you posted here to let us know the good news. Good luck!

Maman2006, sorry, I don't know anything about herbal remedies. I've been drinking Rasberry Leaf Tea and have got some arnica tablets but that's all. I didn't have the arnica last time so I have no idea if it works well although I have heard good things about it. I drank RLT last time too but I find it hard to judge wheter it did my uterus any good. I like the taste of it though

I am not looking forward to the actual birth as I had quite a bad time last time around and swore I would never have another baby. Now, 18 months later, I have obviously come back on that statement. I try not to get too worked up about the possibilities and am much more realistic about pain relief. Also, I am seccretly hoping that this time will be super easy as these things do happen. Maybe I was unlucky last time and it will be completely different this time.

lyra41 · 04/01/2006 08:46

morning all

mw visit due this am, and i think a sweep is the order of the day, now i'm 40 + 3, but i'm sure it will only have an effect if i'm completely ready. i think i'll give it a go. need to clean up before she comes tho, as we've taken down the dex, but haven't done that all important vacuum of pine needles yet. i was hoping someone else would do it if i left it long enough......no such luck. i could do with iris over here, you always seems to be cleaning up. i have the urge to see it clean, but not to actually do it myself.
don't think that counts as proper nesting does it?

had a bit of good news yesterday. a school run acquaintance round the corner has offerred me all her washable nappies etc. as she's finished with them. i hope they're good ones. i'm going to pick them up this pm.

my friend who sent me a txt first thing y'day am to say she'd gone into labour hasn't sent another txt yet!!! it's most frustrating, but i guess that she's fine, had the baby and is too busy / besotted to let us know yet. i hope so anyway, i hope she's not still labouring.

took my john lewis vouchers (leaving pressie from work) yesterday and had a final extravagant spend in the sales. bought the most exquisite baby pashmina for baby's Christening, not something i'd ever buy as it's totally impractical (dry clean only! - altho i'll hand wash it if nec) and even in the sale was really pricey - £20, but as it was a gift i thought why not and went ahead. i also got some lovley baby einstein soft building blocks for when he's a bit older, some pjs for me (i do hope size 16 fits after the birth), a gimmicky tiny u-shaped cushion that fits around the baby's face at the front to try to stop the head lol when they fall asleep in their car seat and some clothes, so i've done well there. it's so nice to be able to pick my own stuff, as people have such different ideas about baby clothes and accessories don't they? some people love bold primary colours or grown up looking colours like khaki, navy and black, and i was a bit that way with ds1, wanting him to look original and trendy, but this time i very much want my baby to stay babyish for as long as poss, so will be dressing him in pale blue and white, with the odd splash of navy, and keeping him in sleepsuits and nightgowns as long as poss!

rite, i'd better stop gabbing on now and get down to the vacuuming.

lyra41 · 04/01/2006 08:50

Eshay

great news about Thomas's good sleep last night, hopefully the nite b4 last was just a one off.

and wrt second labours, i agree with your hopes, mine was so much easier second time, i'm sure your body will just go with the flow this time, an lo will pop out like a pea from a pod!

Eshay · 04/01/2006 08:59

Thanks, Lyra! My SIL had her baby a bit like a pea popping out of a pod. She went to the loo and could feel the baby's head! Baby arrived at the same time as the MW and my bro! How's that for a quick birth? Not really ideal either as it was just all a bit too fast and scary but it just goes to show anything is possible.

I just noticed on the Yahoo site that there was a December meet-up. I am so jealous!

iris66 · 04/01/2006 09:27

Jaysfirst has a post on the announcements thread!! - she had a girl!! (WELL DONE JAYSFIRST!!)

Eshay - so pleased you had a better night last night with T I'd definately take the arnica btw - it's fab for bruising/swelling & speeds recovery. You can start taking it before going into labour & then for 5 days or so afterwards (hypericum is also a really good one to take after if you have a tear/episiotomy, forceps or c/s)

Maman - the caulophyllum and gelsemium are to help promote strong regular contractions once you're in labour. I don't know what the others are for I'm afraid. that your mum is going so soon but, you never know - join us in the curry/pineapple thing on Thu & you may pop!!

Lyra - you lucky thing over the nappies!!! and I love the sound of the pashmina. What a fab shopping spree you've had! and it's so much better when it's "free" isn't it. I'm a bit of a wrap/scarf addict myself and am planning to use them to protect my modesty for breastfeeding (it's quite handy to have a winter baby!) my only purchase has been a sling I ordered yesterday (the traditional type - 5m of fabric you wrap around yourself & knot) Like you, I'm planning to keep DS in pale colours/sleepsuits for as long as poss (soo much easier as far as washing goes and they've got to be more comfortable for the LO IMHO) I've not seen baby einstein stuff but have noticed people mentioning how good it is - especially the vids.
ps -I'd come over & do your cleaning with pleasure - it's the only thing that's keeping me sane at the mo as nobody's stopping me from being energetic whilst doing it

Off to see consultants today (I think it's too early for a poke around like you had Hunkermunker - shame) Will think water breaking thoughts for you all whilst there though

sweetkitty · 04/01/2006 09:42

hi all just reporting in nothing happening. Am going to be 39 weeks tomorrow! Had horrendous nights sleep last night, went to bed at 11 shattered but was in so much pain with my hips and the bump that I didn't get to sleep until 1.30am. Was up twice in the night for the loo then DD decided to get up with Daddy at 6.30am which meant I was up as well. Have spent the morning being covered in megablocks whilst lying on the sofa! Thought about a bit of labour inducing friction with DP last night but when he got into bed he pulled the duvet over me a bit and I screamed with pain that's being rocked gently so put paid to any bedtime action.

Eshay - I know what you mean about labour and birth now that it's imminent and I had a "easy" time of it last time as I kept getting told. I'm really worried about Abbie's care too whilst I'm in labour. There is a theory that your body won't let you go into labour until you feel ready, think it's a primitive thing where animals can hold off labour until their out of predators way etc if that makes any sense, don't know if it applies to 18 month olds though. Also agree with the having baby in January as opposed to July whole different ball game.

Lyra - your purchases sound great and love the idea of a baby pashmina. DD has a dry clean only cashmere poncho thing that she has worn once. It was a present but is lovely. Need to get one of those head hugger things as well forgotten how floppy their little heads are.

Every mum of a boy complains about the lack of choice with clothes and how they are all too grown up. My MIL and DM I think fret over the fact that DD isn't in frilly dresses and tights but in jeans and tops which are much more practical.

Plans for today include blitzing the bedrooms, hopefully it being all spick and span might convince baby to come into the world, got to try anything haven't you?

Anyway hope everyone else is doing ok I'm off before I go on even more.

lyra41 · 04/01/2006 10:16

I'm thinking that Tickle hasn't posted for a while, and she's usually a regular isn't she. hoping that's a good sign for her.

lyra41 · 04/01/2006 10:26

sweetkitty

big sympathy re. horrendous nite's sleep, i've had a few of these. at least there won't be too many of these left for any of us. just think we've been waiting for 40 weeks or so now, another couple shouldn't be too bad.

Eshay · 04/01/2006 10:27

Ooh, how exciting! She's probably busy shoveling snow in between contractions.

Are those head hugger things essential? We didn't have a car when DS was tiny so he never went in a car seat until his head control was okay. They look like pratical things. Should I be running to the shops to get one?

Rach69 · 04/01/2006 10:48

I'm due today! Where is my baby?!

Tickle - hope you are in labour!

Jaysfirst - how lovely - congratulations, sounds like my first labour - waters breaking, no contractions - must find the pics.

Eshay - headhugger about £10? depends how far back the car seat leans I suppose? I have used them but they can still loll about. I have a Jane Matrix this time (lies completely flat).

Lyra - that pashmina sounds fabulous, what a lovely thing to keep and pass on to your grandchildren - dp mum has given me his shawl and it makes me all gooey thinking about all 6'5'' of him wrapped up in it!

Mum2one - did you get into yahoo? I think you need to get a yahoo mail address first (but you don't have to use it)

Maman - how about an epidural! only had one for my third in case of a section but it was fab! I wouldn't go for one automatically but I don't rule it out. don't worry about being small on your first if the mws arent - my bump with ds1 always measured small and he was 9'5' - I had good stomach muscles then! In fact don't worry about anything until it happens - waste of energy! Just keep an open mind and see how you go - my 3 labours have all been totally different, you sound really prepared and positive, mind over matter!

Positive vibes everyone!

Mum2OneAndBump · 04/01/2006 13:49

Well afternoon all,

I actually slept last night from about 12.30 but ds woke me this morning at 6am but i got back to sleep at about 7am till 9.30.

Ds is becoming a nightmare at night now, he goes to bed ok at 7-7.30pm but he keeps getting up in the middle of the night & taking his bed covers into the baby bursery & getting the cot mattress onto the floor & saying he is sleeping there??

He went downstairs at 6am this morning & was stealing choc muffins out the cuboard

He seems to wake in the middle of the night but he wakes me & once i wake i can not get back to sleep, to be honest last night was longest sleep i have had in a long time usually i am up with him 2-4 times a night, really feeling it now i feel shattered.

Well i have not had any pains today or last night & baby is very very quiet today, i am 38 weeks tomorrow & seeing Midwife, i am still not sure if my baby is head down or breech i thought it was head down but i do seem to have a very large lump in the centre, wondering if its a head or a bum?

Rach - you said you would be late, do you have any signs that baby might be coming anytime soon?

Dp really wants the baby to come by the weekend as they have asked him to work on saturday & he does not want to, so he says friday night is the night of, pineapple, sex (which i don't think i can do) & anything else he can think of lol

I am off to try and look at the pics on yahoo, i opened an account but there was an error message last night will try again now.

Goodluck all, lots of contraction vibes sent your ways.

CONGRATULATIONS to Jaysfirst, i am sure she lives by me as looking at her pics i see she was at the hospital i will be going to to have my baby, i must find out how her hospital care was?

xx

Mum2OneAndBump · 04/01/2006 13:54

No still can not view pics it says "error group_check" when i have signed in??

Mumfun · 04/01/2006 13:56

Aargh - just lost all message.

ANyway Jaysfirst - congrats and lovely pictures

Spub - great yo hear good news from you after all youve been through

Sweetkitty = thanks for all the stats

Hopeing all babies arrive soon in best/comfiest ways for mummies and babies

Must start my RLT and arnica soon

Reflexologist comeing FRiday to start pushing buttons -found this very helpful last time in getting natural start to labour

Im also not looking forward to birth mush as back to back babies can be very painful and was last time until blessed epidural - will have epidural this time but it might happen a lot faster this time - who knows

Look forward to all the news

hunkermunker · 04/01/2006 14:00

OMG, what a lot of posts!

Haven't got time to read them all now - but congrats to Jaysfirst (will go and hunt out the announcement in a mo!) and SK, the race is on, eh?

Tickle · 04/01/2006 14:22

thanks for the kind thoughts girls, but no action here yet either Saw the mw yesterday (am now 40+2) and she didn't seem to think the baby was any further down than last time.

But with you on the cleaning!! Been mopping floors today & will try to convince dh to put up some blinds in our bedroom that have been here ages - replace manky curtains loaned by his parents (did I say manky?? Sorry

Off to look for Jaysfirst's post

lyra41 · 04/01/2006 14:40

saw mw this am - no sweep till next time, which is fine by me. she booked me in for induction though on 16th, and if it comes to that i'm pretty sure i'll be going for an epidural. having said that, the mass visualisation, curry, pineapple and sex romp should work fine tomorrow nite, don't you think?

QueenVictoria · 04/01/2006 14:42

Been looking out for you HM

Mum2OneAndBump · 04/01/2006 14:44

Sorry Spub i missed your message down there!

Huge "CONGRATULATIONS" to you, i remember your name, goodluck with this pregnancy it is well deserved

sweetkitty · 04/01/2006 15:13

It's so exciting isn't it? Someone doesn't post for a day and we all think they've given birth.

HM - I've decided I'm having this baby this weekend! (note I've decided not the baby who will probably have other ideas).

Have been eating loads of fruit today especially the dried stuff as it always has a laxative effect on me, healthier and much nicer than castor oil yuck!

Rach - think you must have a very comfy womb personally I think it's the weather all these babies want to stay in the warm!

MW coming tomorrow for an antenatal check, to check the equipment and she's bringing the vitamin K, syntometrin and morphine (not having) and co-codamol (which I asked for as it was great last time). Actually am tempted to have the morphine now at night and knock myself out painfree for a good few hours.

Has anyone else started to get the phone/e-mail/people saying "any news yet?" no thought I would have the baby and not tell anyone for a month!!

OP posts:
Rach69 · 04/01/2006 16:09

I must say I'm really enjoying all these posts, it's fab to share this end bit with you all in the same boat and you are all keeping my spirits up! It's getting really exciting and I'm getting excited for you all too

Sorry to nag Tickle! Kitty - I'm getting the 'any news' texts/calls/visits etc etc - thank god for caller display! Actually it all depends what mood I'm in whether or not I want to talk about it. The kids can't understand why I haven't had the baby yet - I've told them that they were all far too comfy in there too.

Mum2one - it's been 7 1/2 years since I last did this so my memory is a little deficient I'm sure about what I felt last time - I am having really powerful BH, some period type pains and lots of feelings of pressure on my bladder/bowel etc - babe is now 3/5 engaged so 2 parts of head in my pelvis. But nothing really happening, previously I've got so obsessed with making regular contractions out of nothing that this time I'm just going to ignore things till I can't! Mw says don't go to hospital until you can't walk across the room - how do I get in the car then? (visions of dp and a wheel barrow... )

Lyra - I think my induction date will be 16th too - I'll find out next Monday. Hopefully our grand night of passion will work although it obviously didn't last night!

Mak · 04/01/2006 16:26

HI all
Just thought I'd pop on and join in with the excitment.
Congrats to Spub, well done.
Am now 40+1, (dates have gone askew somewhere along the line) and no sign of any action. Am seeing the consultant tomorrow, MW mentioned they might do a sweep whilst I'm there but we shall wait and see. Took the decorations down on Monday and did a huge cleaning blitz in the house. Have bag packed, nursery furnished etc etc - so I'm ready but this little lady appears not to be. Definately back - back, and am waiting for a phone call from alternative therapist to see what they can do re acupuncture/reflexology etc.
Will join you all in the Thursday night festivities (DH will think it's his birthday), he doesn't know yet .
Keep your fingers crossed for me ladies that they don't book me in for a CS when I go tomorrow.
It's got to happen soon because DD is soooo excited, and she starts school and ballet on Monday - there's just so much going on.

Eshay · 04/01/2006 16:37

Maybe this is old news to all of you but my NCT teacher told me that having sex can be good, not only because orgasms can bring on contractions, but also because the manly bodily juices contain certain contraction provoking elements. She said if you're trying to speed things up by some bedroom action, don't clean up afterwards but lie there just like you might have done when TTC. I had no idea!
