Alex has tongue tie too. let me know how you get on. i was thinking about getting it treated, but he doesn't seem to be sufferring, and i'm hoping my nips will calm down soon so i don't need to take him to have his frenulum "clipped."

iris66 · 26/01/2006 09:17

Sweetkitty - only 2 days to go maximum!!!

Re heads engaging - Dominic was brim when I was induced & didn't engage until I was well into labour. I think it's something to do with "loose womb muscles from previous pg"

Tabs · 26/01/2006 09:53

Sweetkitty - just read your post from yesterday, and wanted to give encouragement that it could have been your waters. I've been told that baby's head can block the flow of the waters, so that might explain why it didn't all come out in one go. Am hoping that lack of a post from you this morning means that I am right and that you are by now holding your little one.

barrelrider · 26/01/2006 10:00

Morning girls

Hope all are well today. It's a beautiful day here!!

Went for my sweep yesterday - oh my god ! I was nervous which probably didn't help, but bloooooooooooody hell!! Hope labour isn't that bad although I suspect a million times worse. At least there's pain relief for that tho.

Anyway she said I am 2cm dilated and cervix is 50% effaced and posterior so a Bishops score of 4 (whatever that means). They have booked me in for Sunday night induction but think I will go before. I really really REALLY hope so because I don't want another sweep

Have had some bloody/gooey things with my wee which I assume are my dislodged plug, nice, and periody type feelings today.

Baby only 2/5 in and very active. Battle of wills now I think!! She suggested pineapple and sex to avoid induction and I was like 'I never want to have sex again' but she was insistent that 'the other route' wasn't worth trying.. anyway it's the only route I'm going!!

Seriously does anyone know how many internals you go through in labour ? Do they ever use a speculum? I need pain relief for the next one
Can I refuse a sweep and go straight to the pessaries if I go in on Sunday?

Sweetkitty did you ring hospital about the wee/water thing? Are you sure it wasn't waters? Really hope you still get your home birth

PPH and mumfun - what's the latest? You both sounded very near yesterday!

Having a baby for the weekend vibes to everyone still waiting

sweetkitty · 26/01/2006 10:42

Well 12 days late Baby Talia Erin has made her appearance.

Contractions started at 1.30am very painful from the start called midwives straight away. They were coming really thick and fast but gas and air was good. MWs examined me and I was 8cms already but head was still high up so broke my waters and felt the need to push, she was born at 4am exactly weighing a staggering 9lbs 3ozs. Didn't need any stitches this time. Had very fast natural third stage too. Midwives were excellent and homebirth was fantastic, Talia been feeding really well too. Am absolutely delighted not to need to be induced.

Will post more when I can, hope I start a run of babies for everyone else waiting, take care of yourselves.

YAY!!!!! MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS AT LAST SWEETKITTY

well done honey! I am so pleased for you and Talia is a gorgeous name - can't wait to see the pictures!

Rach69 · 26/01/2006 11:43

Congratulations Sweetkitty!!! fabulous news and welcome to Talia, what a weight, no tiny clothes for her this time! - so glad it's all over for you and the homebirth went well!

Barrelrider - I posted this for SK a few days ago so I've copied it here again for you: Sweeps can be horrible but I think a lot of it is due to tensing up! I know I do, deep breathing really does help - to be honest, having the prostin isn't much different and I reckon they do a sweep then anyway - the good news is that it gets easier each time. They generally don't examine you more than every 4 hrs when you are in labour unless you are progressing fast. I have never known any reason to use a speculum either antenatally or in labour - I don't think they need to see your cervix!

This bit below is all cut and pasted from earlier

I?m not very good at links but type ?bishops score induction? into Google and you will get loads of info ? basically it is a pelvic score relating to engagement of head, length/dilation/effacement/softness etc of cervix ? it need to be anterior rather than posterior - ask your mw/drs what they have given you every time they examine you ? it should be 9 to be favourable for induction ? mine never got past 4 with the gel! If you can get to 6/7 you can have your waters broken and a syntocin drip put up. Obviously these policies might be different for your hospital but it gives you an idea. After 6 gels, any further decisions had to be made at consultant level. Remember though, I am a medical freak! It is very rare for a multipara with previous normal deliveries to have failed induction.

With ds1 my waters broke at 10-11 days over and I went into labour a day later ? no induction.
With ds2 I was 13 days over, had several prostins over a couple of days which worked.
With dd I was 12 days over, had ONE prostin and went to 5cm in an hour!!!

With ds3 ? well read the birth announcement!

So who knows?

Advice to cope ? don?t get too excited at any twinges ? you get false prostin pains that do bugger all in terms of dilating your cervix. You?ll know when you?re in real labour. (beware, the prostin stings your bits rather, but it does pass, they virtually do a sweep every time they examine you).

Save your energy ? what will be, will be, relax ? it could take more than a day?.or two?! They will monitor you and baby before and after every gel (also assess your cervix) and will be cautious not to over-stimulate your uterus.

Mumfun · 26/01/2006 11:52

SK Fantastic! Well done - so glad you didnt have to get induced. Both lovely names too - fab news!

Really p*ssed off here - no labour at all. STill contracting painlessly very 10 minutes or so to no effect. Think Ill have to be induced - just what I did not want. Partly because parents arriving too - dont start me on this!

Anyway congrats to the other new arrivals too. Going to give this baby a talking too and might have to do sex tonight - horrors!

Tabs · 26/01/2006 11:58

Yay - congratulations SK, and welcome Talia .

hotmama · 26/01/2006 12:15

Huge congrats SK - sooo glad you got your homebirth etc - and a fast one at that!

barrelrider · 26/01/2006 12:27

Well done Sweetkitty and welcome Talia Erin So chuffed for you !!

Rach, thanks for the info. I'm scared now, I really don't want loads of internals and stuff at all, but sounds like I'm going to have them whatever

Will be getting the epidural sorted out the minute I get into hospital. I know I'm a coward but I'm genuinely more scared of the internals than I am of the 'natural' stuff I reckon.

Good luck to the few who are left, hope Sweetkitty has blazed a trail for us today !!

PrincessPeaHead · 26/01/2006 13:36

well done sk, sounds like a great birth after that wait.
nothing here. increasingly cross.

muma3 · 26/01/2006 13:51

congratulations sweetkitty. lovely name and fantastic delivery. well done!

hunkermunker · 26/01/2006 14:08

SK, am SO pleased for you! Congratulations! Welcome to the world, Talia Erin!

PPH, really hope you have yours very, very soon.

James had a growth spurt last night - and I mastered feeding a newborn lying down Didn't manage feeding lying down till DS1 was about five months old, so am very proud of that!

sweetkitty · 26/01/2006 14:17

HM - Talia has been attached to my boob since she was born we have fed in every position there is already, so different to Abbie this one is a guzzler.

lilstarry1 · 26/01/2006 15:15

Ooo only a few of us left now! Congratulations to the newest arrival!! I'm only two days overdue but am feeling the frustration! This baby is not the most compliant little thing, in fact she has a habit of engaging and disengaging on a semi-regular basis, which is interesting (sarcasm sarcasm sarcasm!).

I did some exercises earlier, nothing. Midwife was rather shocked to hear I've had NO signs of labour yet. Ah well, it'll happen when it happens. I'm booked in for an induction now.. have until next Friday for things to occur naturally. Wish me luck!

I'm sending all my positive 'be born' vibes to everyone..

Mum2OneAndOneMore · 26/01/2006 15:24

Hello Everyone,

I am so so glad to return & see your baby girl has finally arrived SK just the news i wanted to see

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS & WELCOME TO BABY TALIA ERIN

I hope anyone else waiting will have there babies soon. Congratulations to anyone else who i have missed, have not had time to read whole thread only read top few posts.

Well baby sophie is doing ok, i am still managing to hang in there with the breast feeding had a couple of bad nights where she has feed all night & they have knackered me out. I have given her a couple of bottles as i have needed the sleep that desperate i was crying! Even though she has had those couple of bottles she is still latching on & really taking to the breast. Are you allowed to mix formula & breast? not to sure i must ask!

She was weighed yesterday & she has lost weight she has gone from 7lb 14oz to 7lb 10ozs midwife said this was perfectly normal & she should start gaining soon.

I am just so so pleased with her she really has made our little family complete

I am worrying a bit about when dp goes back to work & how the hell i am going to get up in the mornings breast fed baby, get ds ready & fed for nursery & leave the house by 8.50am not sure if this is going to be possible but all i can do is try, its the breast feeding in the mornings that will be difficult as it takes time any suggestions on what i could do?

Thanks for the help Hunkermunker & tips on breast feeding its great to be able to come here & get some answers as this is all new to me this time round only managed 3-4 days with ds last time

Anyway i hope everyone & there babies are all doing well & i will pop back again soon, i suppose i should go and join the post-natal thread now see you all there i am sure we will be moaning about many sleepless nights & sore boobs

xx

Mak · 26/01/2006 16:22

Fantastic news Sweetkitty. Congratulations - I am soo pleased for you - at last. I'm sure she was worth the wait. Look forward to reading the birth announcement.

lyra41 · 26/01/2006 17:02

big congratulations sk!

so pleased you got your homebirth. well done you and welcome to Talia Erin.

hunkermunker · 26/01/2006 21:04

M21A1M, yes you're "allowed" to mix formula and bfeeding, but it does often mean you stop bfeeding sooner than you might like because your supply doesn't match your baby's demand. There are people who've successfully mix-fed from birth though, but it's not necessarily easy.

How about you start a thread in the breast/bottlefeeding topic asking for tips about how to manage two children, one who needs bfeeding and one who needs to get to nursery? Can you try bfeeding in a sling? That way you can do two things at once more easily, perhaps?

NotAcow · 26/01/2006 21:47

SWEETKITTY!! yay!! well done you - arent we all fantastic??? am soooo pleased you got your homebirth, trouble free and young Talia is out in the world where ahe belongs

lyra - how you doing with the tongue tie?? how sore are your nips? mine are about to fall off, and they hurt so much, i don think i'd mind if they did!! not that im glad you have same trouble, but am soooo glad to have someone to converse with about it, never even heard of it before. think ds1 may have had same trouble, as he was a bugger to latch on prop too. no such probs with ds2, who is gonna be a rugby player or something, so i know how it can be... anyway...

Barrelrider - good luck hon, it will all be over soon. thoughts are with you, and others, still waiting. god, i know how you all feel... still, you can be up feeding all night without a chance to nap in the day soon, and think how much fun that will be afer a few weeks, eh?

Have just done a quick update, not many left now. Will put it across in our postnatal thread when we are all finished!

Mumfun, lilstarry and barrelrider - hope things are happening with you all. Speedy labour vibes coming your way.

PPH - Many congratulations on the birth of Marina, have posted on your announcement.

Dying to hear news of horseshoe as well.

Well those speedy delivery vibes might have just worked.. I have nestled next to me a very beautiful very special little girl, who was born at 12-02 this very morning!

I didn't even think I was in labour, went in at 6-30 because my waters were yellow, and was 3cm dilated.. wandered around the hospital till 9 and was told (upon requesting an epidural) 'there's no chance now, you're 9cm gone' GULP

We don't have a name for our beautiful bundle, but she's a healthy 7lb 12oz ... with very strong lungs and great bowls

Just wanted to let everyone know, and send all my love and best wishes out to everyone left.. Enjoy the last moments, they are wonderful
