hotmama - I have until Saturday to go into labour naturally and am all set up here for a homebirth. SIL is around today (today would be such a good day to have a baby) but if not even if DP is here on his own with DD he will still be able to pop in and out and be there at the crucial time.

Ah - missed that you were planning a homebirth. That's good then that the pressure isn't on for today to be day - but I imagine it would be nice wouldn't it?

How are you sinuses?

iris66 · 24/01/2006 08:58

morning

Eshay - congratulations on the arrival of Alexander! Glad you're home and well & look forward to catching up

Sweetkitty - how are the sinusses today?.Have you got anything nice planned for the next few days whilst your SIL is away?

stripeybumpsmum · 24/01/2006 09:02

Hello Ladies,

Big Congrats to arrivees and big hugs and positive vibes for felolow awaitees. How are you all today?

Have been checking posts and very happy to hear good news on babies so far. Sorry to hear you are still having a rough time SweetKitty - hopefully will be better soon. Not posted myself as, frankly, feeling a bit antisocial and sorry for self. Now +8 by scan, +16 by LMP. Been to hospital y'day and despite showing pre-labour signs seemingly forever, nothing happening. Cervix too posterior even for sweep (tho' DH did say junior doc who did it was lovely but Polly-Pocket sized so must have had teeny tiny hands) (show been and gone but not going to say when because it will depress fellow waitees!)

So it is induction for me on Wed. Got to manage other health issues so agreed to induce a bit earlier at +9 than +12 policy so in best state to start labour plus Delivery Ward 'too busy' between Thurs +10 and Sat night so would have had to have waited until +13.

Really wanted to be at home in early stages for max time in order to spend min time in hosp. Anyone got any tips how to cope in early labour in hospital (obviously now will also be monitored). Shall I post on separate thread?

Thanks

sweetkitty · 24/01/2006 09:46

hi sinuses are OK I guess woke at 4am last night in pain but took some painkillers, hopefully antobiotics should kick in soon. Still can't smell anything at all though.

Stripey - I know how you feel about being anti social, I just don't want to speak to anyone right now or I think I will explode, all the "you not had the baby by now" "I thought you would have went early again" "you must be so fed up" comments drive you all the wall. Like you want to be this big in my case with SPD pain and DD to look after oh it's great fun.

Don't know what to suggest re being in hospital for the early stages, maybe ask if you can use the pool early and be a bit more comfortable. I never had any early stages last time. At leasy come Wednesday you will have your baby in your arms and it will have all been worth it just focus on the outcome.

Just spoken to friend on the phone who had her baby on Sunday she sounds so happy and high bless her, sounded not a bad labour too (she was induced last time at 14 days over) she had a little boy and called him Tighe (apparently it's Irish).

Hi stipeybumpsmum - I ended up being induced & covered in monitors too (started off pg being hospital phobic & wanted a home water birth so know where you're coming from) and those first few hours can drag, however, I had music playing from the start and a friend came to give me reflexology. DH gave me back massages which all helped to while away the time. IMVHO if you can do what you can to make it like home the time goes by more quickly. FWIW I had a really positive birth in the end and the MW was fantastic, helping me deliver tear free. Hope yours goes equally well. x

I can sympathise with all you waiting mums :/ I'm due today, but thus far the only thing that's arrived is our new sofa.. sigh. I have a midwife appointment this afternoon, little worried after speaking to my friend (who's a x-midwife now health visitor), she says it's rather unusual that the babies not in position... She wiggled around so much the other night I felt sea sick! It's reassuring to read however, I'm not the only one ...

I guess these things have to happen naturally? My love and labour vibes go out to all of you... lets hope these babies don't have this lay-about attitude when they're teenagers Heh Heh... It's bloody typical, my mum had us all by 35 weeks so I was expecting an early labour, but like my Mum lovingly reminded me last night "Our family has never been on time for anything.. we're always late!".

Fingers crossed.. I hope the midwife has something useful to impart xxx

Hi everyone, time is flying by now and I can?t keep up! Hello to all the Newbies ? good luck and hope to get to know you better once we?re all on the postnatal thread! Please do put pics on yahoo ? it really helps to put faces/babies to names. Congratulations notacow ? sounds like a great birth! Will finally post my birth announcement now and a couple of grainy phone shots of Finn on yahoo.

Sweetkitty ? what can I say? Maybe you?ve gone today ? I hope so! If anyone knows what you?re going through, believe me, I do! Finn was born eventually at 40+14 and I am now an official expert on induction and cervical favourability after 7 attempts with prostin gel and an ARM/syntocin drip. If you want to ask me anything at all, please do ? or CAT me?

I think you would be fine to wait a bit longer ? my hospital policy is 40+13 if no other problems. You would give yourself the weekend to go naturally, plus you might become more favourable for induction. Remember I went home twice, once 10 days over and again 13 days over ? if I hadn?t had the section the next day both me and baby would have had a couple of hours monitoring on the antenatal day unit. Personally I was happy as long as he was moving loads. I?m not very good at links but type ?bishops score induction? into Google and you will get loads of info ? basically it is a pelvic score relating to engagement of head, length/dilation/effacement/softness etc of cervix ? it need to be anterior rather than posterior - ask your mw/drs what they have given you every time they examine you ? it should be 9 to be favourable for induction ? mine never got past 4 with the gel! If you can get to 6/7 you can have your waters broken and a syntocin drip put up. Obviously these policies might be different for your hospital but it gives you an idea. After 6 gels, any further decisions had to be made at consultant level. Remember though, I am a medical freak! It is very rare for a multipara with previous normal deliveries to have failed induction.

With ds1 my waters broke at 10-11 days over and I went into labour a day later ? no induction.
With ds2 I was 13 days over, had several prostins over a couple of days which worked.
With dd I was 12 days over, had ONE prostin and went to 5cm in an hour!!!

With ds3 ? well read the birth announcement!

So who knows?

Advice to cope ? don?t get too excited at any twinges ? you get false prostin pains that do bugger all in terms of dilating your cervix. You?ll know when you?re in real labour. (beware, the prostin stings your bits rather, but it does pass, they virtually do a sweep every time they examine you).

Save your energy ? what will be, will be, relax ? it could take more than a day?.or two?! They will monitor you and baby before and after every gel (also assess your cervix) and will be cautious not to over-stimulate your uterus.

sweetkitty · 24/01/2006 15:53

Thanks everyone - had MW visit baby is fine very comfy in there!!! They all cannot believe I have not had a baby yet. Have consultant appt on Friday will be assessed then probably induction on the Saturday morning MW said induction will be waters broken then wait and see, as little intervention as possible.

Rach - I cannot believe your saga still, it was so obvious he wasn't able to get out in the end. Still best outcome and glad you are both doing well.

Hi

JUst to say all the best Sk. Had a sweep today and they nearly did not let me home (Baby heartbeat a bit low at resting for thier liking). Hooked me up to trace and am contracting every 10 minutes although I dont feel a thing and am 3 cm dilated but this could go on for a few days. Very surprised I dont feel hardly a thing. Booked induction for Friday but doctor does not think Ill go that far.
Got to dash to get DS in bath. Hope to catch up next few days with all news.

sweetkitty · 24/01/2006 21:13

Mumfun - best of luck sounds v promising!!

Away to bounce on my ball tonight watching TV and hopefully will wake up in the night in a pool of water!!!

Peaceful night to all of you with littlies

hotmama · 24/01/2006 21:16

Good luck sk - hopefully things will get moving soon.

sweetkitty · 25/01/2006 07:50

Guess what????

No I'm still here but didn't want to start the message with "still here, still pregnant!" Absolutely nothing happening as per usual. trying to remain positive and think well probably by Saturday I will have a baby no matter what, it's upsetting to be having to go into hospital after all the planning for a homebirth but will be glad not to be pregnant. V upset DP will miss the birth too but loads of Dads do and he will be there for cuddles afterwards. Going to go out today sod it.

Mumfun - really hope that things are happening for you too.

lyra41 · 25/01/2006 09:03

Hi SK

not long now then. hope your sinuses are feeling better this am. when you are ill, i think it's very unusual for your body to go into labour, baby's probably been hanging on in there till you're better, and as you said, even if she's determined not to come out, out she'll come by weekend, and i can tell you, it is great not to be pg!

we had not such a good night last night, with 2 hourly feeds, but par for the course at this stage i think. it's just we have the odd good night and then i try to replicate what we did to achieve that, but i think it's all pretty random really! this am was the first time since the birth that i woke up tired and not wanting to get up, but after my porridge and coffee i feel ok now. i'm off for a bath soon whilst Alex is sleeping.

the house is desperately dirty and i probably am capable now of cleaning up, but my cleaner's due to come tomorrow, so i think we can put up with it for another day...... that nesting thing never did really kick in with me, in fact dh was vacuuming the rugs when i was in early labour so we wouldn't be ashamed in front of the mw!
i need to get to the supermarket too, we're pretty much out of everything. i'm tempted to do an internet shop, i'll see how the day pans out.

take it easy everyone, x.

hotmama · 25/01/2006 09:08

Crossed fingers for you SK - hopefully you will go into birth naturally at home - you still have time?

barrelrider · 25/01/2006 09:51

Hi all

Nothing happening here either except I feel sick today, wonder if that means anything (getting desperate!!)

Going in for sweep and check at hospital today as 7 days over now. I'm pretty nervous; it's not the sweep that's worrying me, it's in case they say the cervix is posterior, closed etc etc, I will be really !!!

TMI: For some reason I'm really constipated, which I guess is a sign that labour isn't about to start.

Sweetkitty hope you're OK, hope it all happens today! Seeing as you've had your show perhaps today's the day

Stripeybumps - good luck for induction today!!

Mumfun, good luck to you too, sounds imminent. Let us know how you get on

Mumfun · 25/01/2006 11:01

Hi all

All the best to SK and Barrelrider. I was amazed how a sweep was nothing at all really - thought it would hurt.

Anyway got some more period pain through the night and pelvis hurts sometimes but still contracting and still nothing much happening. Kind neighbour has taken DS to playgroup so hes getting amused at least cause didnt feel up to taking him out today.

Just have to be patient. Hope we all get our babes soon

Bye for now

GeorginaP · 25/01/2006 13:33

Hi there Sweetkit, Mumfun and all you other Ladies-in-Waiting. Just popped on to say good luck for forth coming labours/births. Not long to go now.

Sweetkit, you've been such a trooper. By this weekend you'll def have a bub to cuddle....And Mumfun too by the sound of it

NotaCow - welcome to the world Gus. I thought my labout was quick, but yours was positively super sonic

G xx

Rach69 · 25/01/2006 15:14

Good luck to you all today, here's to not too much more waiting. Sweetkitty - I think Lyra is right about the baby/your body waiting till you are well enough. Contracting vibes to all!

PrincessPeaHead · 25/01/2006 16:01

still here. head completely in pelvis (I can hardly walk), baby quietened down - can't be far away I don't think.

I hope anyway.

sweetkitty · 25/01/2006 16:46

hotmama - have until Saturday morning to go into labout by myself but this little girl is so comfy in there don't think she will ever come out! Can't believe I will have been pregnant a month longer with her than with Abbie. I just hope she remains a laid back little thing. Will have to repack my case as well as I had bought some newborn 71/2lb clothes for her because I remember last time Abbie's were far too big for her. This one will be coming out into 3-6 months clothes at this rate.

Lyra - sod the house it will only get messy again anyway, more important things to do, am of your cleaner though. I know what you mean about the feeding/sleeping it's far too early for all that I think winging it is the best way.

barrelrider - hope the sweep worked and you are in the throes of labour as we speak.

Mumfun - loads of labour vibes to you too, is it tomorrow you go in for induction? No just looked up it's Friday not long for you either then.

Georgie and Rach - thanks for the best wishes they really do mean a lot.

PPH - welcome to the waiting club! I think I was 4/5's palpable yesterday don't think she likes my pelvis she likes bouncing up and down on it usually at 4 in the morning though.

Well had a scare/bit of excitement today, went upstairs to fetch DD thought I need the loo so went all ok, then came downstairs with her and thought I need to go again (nothing unusual there either) but erm didn't quite make it and there was loads of it but I had just emptied my bladder so was confused. So a little while later it happened again so that little bit of hope that this was my waters going arose but I think I have just wet myself have been dancing around with Abbie all afternoon see if that helps any but I doubt it.

take care MiserableKitty x

Good luck to all those still waiting.

sweetkitty · 25/01/2006 21:23

Potty - she was here last week and was going to be overdue (she was due on the 20th) I was wondering about her too, I hope we get an announcement soon.

NotAcow · 25/01/2006 22:26

Hi Kitty and others...

sorry no chance to read any posts (madly busy!), except to see that SK is STILL waiting !!

thoughts are with you.

for my part, am chuffed to bits w not being pg anymore, but Gus has a tongue-tie which means feeding is a tad uncomfy right now. will hopefully be sorted in next day or so... and have succumbed to a virusy thing too. joy and happiness.

hope you are feeling better with the sinuses etc and will be checking for an announcement from you. see you on the post natal thread if i ever get a minute to myself again!!
