fishandlilacs · 21/11/2011 14:19

apparently it's best with a sheet over it.

redheadbedhead · 21/11/2011 14:39

oh yeah ghost that would be really handy. I've put it on my Amazon Wishlist in case anyone wants to buy it for me!

shonnomanom · 21/11/2011 16:07

OOOh im very tempted with that dryer! The website currently says that they wont get stock back in until 02/01/12

I think once we're finished organising/decluttering then got the christmas tree up I would be ready enough for an early birth. Another 2 maybe 3 weeks and I think we'l be ready Hmm

Dp gets his 1st week on full wage then the 2nd week is reduced wages. Depending on when this baby comes will depend on how he takes his leave. If it comes before or after the Festive season he will take a solid fortnight. But if that fortnight overlaps with the holidays then he will work 1 week inbetween his 2 pat weeks. He gets double time + half on bank holidays and given that there is 4 at Christmas/NY its too good an earner to miss out. SO we're looking at him splitting the 2 weeks so he can work the bank holidays if need be. He is also planning to take 1 weeks holiday as well.

Time will tell . . .

Really uncomfortable today ...

I had two lots of bedding to wash, plus I was washing some second hand nappies and baby things we'd been given and the laundry basket is full of DH's running gear and stuff now he's started training again. Two airers is not enough to keep on top of this so I cracked and ordered that Lakeland one. As long as it arrives before the baby does I'll be happy!

addictediam · 22/11/2011 09:23

I can't remember who asked, but my sil is a spoilt brat and if she doesnt get her own way will have a proper toddler tantrum. We have problems every year over Christmas presents (dh used to spend £50 each on his mum, dad and sis but since we got together we have to spend less considering I have 2 sisters, 1 bil, 2 neices, 3 brothers and I partner as well as my parents. Sil assumed we would not only continue spending £50 on her but we would spend that each on her Confused) we also have problems over wanting to spend Christmas day at home (we spend Xmas eve with my family and boxing fay with ils but she wants is to spend all 3 days with them) and this year dh dropped the bomb shell that due to me being heavily pregnant and having cfs we would try our very best but we wouldnt be visiting again before Christmas and certainly not in january. Sil flew off the handle screaming at me that I was selfish Hmm and crewl keeping her brother from her. Apparently even tho I'm the one that organises all visits to them because dh just isn't fussed, I'm trying to cut them out of our lives and I am brainwashing dh because he wants to spend time with me and dd and not her (she asked dh to go see arther Christmas with her, dh said no if he was going to go it would be with me and dd)

addictediam · 22/11/2011 09:27

Sil has no sn. Anyone want to guess her age... its 40, yes that's right, its not a typo she is four zero years old. Fourty. 40

I wony bore you with anymore details of my crazy sil (there's a fee threads floating around about her already!)

Hope everyone is doing well today

greenlady78 · 22/11/2011 10:13

ghost thank you so much for the book and the recipe, I thought 11 and half hours was a bit extreme :P

fi glad I'm not the only one! Smile

fish Hope you are feeling much more cheerful by now...I can't sleep either and it makes me very moody...

sightly I know exactly what you mean...I also had my belly measured and they said it was smaller than normal, then had a scan on Monday (was freaked out by massive clicking noise on it on Friday) only to be told the baby is within normal range but on the up of the scale, so a big baby...so the measuring belly thing is balloney!

parsley Congratulation on your wedding, how exciting!!!

Lakeland Dryer - hmm, I ordered it almost a month ago and the website said it would be in stock after November 23...and now it says January...I wonder if they will just keep the money for 3 months (!) and then we will get fed up adn get the money back...

Doing my GTT test tomorrow and in a way looking forward to finally finding out about what is going on (after 6 weeks of having sugar in wee they have decided to check it out...)

Hope everyone is having a good day, I have a MW appointment today and I just know it will be another 'tick the box' exercise...am I the only one who feels they are only ticking boxes but not really engaging? Last time I had to remind them there was a note to take a blood sample...(no one reads what has been written before...)

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 22/11/2011 11:02

Sorry to hear about your MW experiences greenlady but mine has been wonderful. When I told her we wouldn't be able to get to the nhs ante-natal class she said that she would be happy to run through things with me and DH on my next appt and they would make a note on my notes to give me extra information during my labour... I think this is the joy of community care and a MWLU...

Hope you get some answers about the sugar in wee thing... x

miamama09 · 22/11/2011 11:06

loving that we can all come here to rant! addicted - I have a SIL just like that, who is also 40! maybe 41 now... Way OTT with her opinions and trying to control the entire family. I find it easiest to just be civil when we do have to see each other, and secretly take pleasure in the fact that karma will come back to bite her on the ass one day!

OK, so I gave my boss 'the list' of gift ideas - which I wasn't comfortable doing to begin with. Now she has come back and asked exactly what I want from the list. FFS I only put 5 things on there, grow a pair and make it somewhat of a surprise why don't you! otherwise I may as well go buy it myself, wrap it up myself and give it to myself! Wink

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 22/11/2011 11:08

I got given a 'gro-egg' room thermometer the other day. I love it. Have been trying it out the last couple of days and it's fab - is really making me feel more confident about keeping the baby at the right temp. What's on your list mia?

GiraffeAHolic · 22/11/2011 11:14

I loved my gro-egg!! Dh threatened to confiscate it if I didn't quit with the constant temperature updates Blush

supadupapupascupa · 22/11/2011 11:19

i would recommend a baby monitor with tunes. My DS is now 2.3 and still lulls himself to sleep with his (dreading taking it away for the new baby!)
by the time the music runs out...he's asleep. I think ours is a BT100

greenlady78 · 22/11/2011 11:35

thanks cake, I also see a different MW every time so maybe I will get a nice one today? Hmm

I have a gro-egg on my list, great to hear it is good! I live in such a small flat that I wonder if I should bother with a baby monitor at all in the first few months....what do you guys think? The MW on our Parenting course said we should have the baby with us at all times, when cooking, watching tv that they should get used to noise...It sounded like good advice, but unsure if it would work in real life Smile

shonnomanom · 22/11/2011 12:47

I love our gro-egg! For some reason I NEED to know what temp it is.

Hope everyone with appointments this week get good feed back. After 6weeks of waiting I eventually have my 34w appointment. Personally I think there should be an appointment between 28 and 34 weeks.

Has anyone else got an unstoppable hunger? Yesterday I sounded like I had a distressed bear in my belly. I could just air and eat all day just now!

Shock at addicted's SIL!!

greenlady78 · 22/11/2011 13:28

ghost Shock at addicted's SIL made me chuckle!!!!! But I second that Wink

supadupapupascupa · 22/11/2011 13:34

greenlady78 if your baby is fast asleep and you want to wash the pots/have a pee/ have a shower/ answer the door/ hang the washing out etc you will not be waking them to take them with you. So yes I would say get one. But I am hard of hearing so it is reassuring to me that i'm not 'not hearing' the baby iyswim. Also makes it easier to leave them to 'chatter' instead of thinking they need 'seeing to'. I loved listening to my DS.

I agree about leaving them downstairs to sleep when they are small though, definitely.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 22/11/2011 14:01

The gro-eggs reassured me that the pleasantly cool temp I prefer our bedroom to be was actually the best one for the baby - huzzah!

I am a crafting queen at the moment!
list of projects completed:-

Mobile with 9 felt dongles
crochet blanket
knitted cardigan with ladybird buttons
knitted cardigan with cat buttons
knitted hat
patchwork playmat/quilt
drawstring dirty nappy bag

Now I just have:-
knitted jumper to finish
mystery craft project for ghost
waterproof sheet for crib
breast pads
maternity pads

eek - better get going in tht case - have to work out the best combo of fabrics for the pads.

Those of you who are mums already - How absorbent do breast pads need to be and are flat ones OK or do they need to be shaped?

fishandlilacs · 22/11/2011 14:01

Afternoon everyone. Addicted what an insane SIl you have, gawd families can be so bloody infuriating can't they? I feel for you.

greenlady sorry you ahve a crappy midwife, I have had on and off care, mostly from the consultants tbh. I find some of them so bloody bossy! I really want to say: "It's MY body and MY baby incase you hadn't noticed and I believe you have duty of care to listen to MY wishes on the matter!" But glad to hear that youre having a GTT-take a book and something to eat for immediately you hav finished it's boring and you will be ravenous!. I hope it puts your mind to rest and theres no GD.

Plus also to greenlady I made the mistake of reading and trying to follow gina fucking ford for about 4 months (before i put the book through the shredder in a fit of pique) who advocates baby going to sleep in a quiet dark room etc. It was a mistake. DD was a mare if there was any noise at all she would bounce awake. This baby will be sleeping in the noisiest places I can find. BUT i will say it depends on your baby-some will sleep easily with noise and others wont I have found. If a noisy place means a 20 min nap and hardly a break for you then I would say a quiet place is better.

We have the gro-egg used it with DD's room and got it back from my sister recently. Not sure if i'll use it again. I suggested selling it to dh but he said to keep it a while. It's a bit of a double edged sword-we couldn't control the temp in DD's old room very well and it was always bloody freezing in winter and too warm in summer-it caused more worry constantly watching the egg that DH took it out in the end. Lovely night light though. We did go on the buy the GRo clock for dd when she was older.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 22/11/2011 14:05

My mum has certainly always advised keeping them in noisy rooms during the day and not creeping around, then peace and quiet at night to help them learn the routines. Seems sensible to me.

And yes, tht SIL sounDs completely BSM

fishandlilacs · 22/11/2011 14:06

cakes Envy at your crafting. I have had no time to do anything yet. I am making bath bombs for everyone for christmas this year though. I am very excited as I have finally got some bra clips sdo I can start making some nursing bras out of run of the mill bras, a very cheap way to get round my 46h problem! How exciting!

As for nipple pads-I;'m not sure how absorbent they should be-sometimes it's just to catch a bit but there can be "gushes" at peak times such as first thing in the morning.Interms of shape-shape is def more comfy but but I have been known to use a sanitary towel cut in half as a breast pad before now and bog roll. I guess you'll need to try both and see how much difference it makes to you.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 22/11/2011 14:10

hrmm... Don't know how sore they'll be or anything... Think fleecy bit against boob would be the nicest though, rather than cotton jersey (like t-shirt) or cotton sheeting (old sheet)

Oh well, they're not that complicated, will just make a few of each sort and see how they go... Thanks for the advice fish

ghosteditor · 22/11/2011 14:47

ATTACK OF THE HIGGS-BOSONS!!

Seriously, am being nailed by BH today, it's the oddest sensation, isn't it?

greenlady no probs, and let me know if your dryer turns up, as I ordered mine at a similar time and there's been no word as yet. Grrrr....

Last night at yoga I managed to acquire an almost-new but second hand Kari Me sling for £20 - am really pleased as it's the one I was planning on buying until we borrowed a baby bjorn instead. I think the Kari Me will be much better for the early days and if I decide to do baby-wearing inside the house, or have a quick walk into town when I don't need to carry too much stuff and don't require the mahoosive pram. The baby-wearing stuff makes quite a lot of sense to me, so I think I might go to some of the meets when I'm on maternity leave next year. Anyone else keen?

My app shows something like 52 days to go - can't believe it! eeeeek!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 22/11/2011 15:12

I'm looking at babywearing too - and I have a sling now! :)
