waiting - I think wriggle makes a good point about the iron tablets. Tbh I'd be tempted to stop them for a few days and see what happens but if you'd rather not why not try taking them before bedtime and see whether that helps?

Braxton Hicks - I'm not sure I've ever experienced any (even with DS!) I will await that joy!

Palpitations - I get these very occasionally. Not noticed whether there's a link to blood sugars but will try and monitor!

New - hope you're having a better day today.

Good day here - DS and DH went out playing in the snow so I made the most of a bit of time to myself and had a lovely long shower followed by smothering myself in body butter :) I keep getting quite itchy and dry so feel much better for it!

saggybaps · 05/02/2012 15:54

Afternoon! waiting & halecromp I'm sorry to hear you are still having sickness/ nausea. I suffered badly last time until about 30 weeks. It was connected to really bad acid reflux, once I started on Omeprazole to sort that out the sickness/ nausea went. I also second dropping iron or multi-vit supplements. I'm a fussy veggie so was worried baby wasn't getting the nutrients she needed so was taking vit supplements. Once I ditched them the nausea really subsided.

Palpitations & tightenings I'm getting tightenings almost every night now, I was so uncomfortable and my bump was rock hard. I've also just started to get breathless & palpitations, which is concerning as I'm only 27/8 weeks. I think it's connected to lack of fitness & my addiction to chocolate bourbon biscuits, I'm also stacking on the weight.

I've started preggo yogo, which is fabulous stretching out all the tired muscles & I'm going to start babyfit this week.

Time really is flying by... so much to do!

Basse · 05/02/2012 16:35

Sorry to hear about the nausea & sickness, waiting and halecromp. I am getting it a bit too as well not being sick but feeling queasy often just like the 1st trimsester, started this week - I am putting it down to all the growing that is going on. Am so so hungry - woke up last night 4am having to chomp down a banana, musesli and milk because I was so starving, how extreme is that! Def. got the Lina Negra, have had it for quite a while now. Don't think I have Braxton Hick's, though I did have lower abdominal pain all day yesterday, gone today though! Lots of movement, esp. after food you can now see my belly moving, baby must be bouncing around on a sugar high! :)

halecromp · 05/02/2012 17:52

Thanks, I am not taking any supplements so know its nothing like that. I suffered badly with my dd and was induced at 37+5 as I was losing so much weight and getting weaker and weaker. Thought it may be different this time around, especially as this one is a boy but no such luck. Take care everyone, especially in the snow! x

LittleSarah · 05/02/2012 19:57

waitingforalittlelamb - this is your first isn't it? I was really small with my dd, I didn't show at all until 6/7 months, with ds I was a little under average and I think this time I am about average. Basically I'm sure it is nothing to worry about, and you never know, you could balloon up in the next three months!

Braxton Hicks - I have never had these before, tonight though I am wondering. Not sure about the rock hard bump thing but did feel kind of tight cramping for a little. Gone now though so not sure exactly what it was!

Sorry to hear about the sickness, that is so rubbish. I still feel nauseous here and there but nothing too serious.

Went to my old home birth group today, always nice to hear people's stories and get advice. One thing came up I hadn't thought about, what the kids will be doing. I am hoping it will be at night and they will just sleep through (hoping to it will be quick like last time!) but if not... dd will be fine (she was at her dad's last time) as she is old enough to distract with DVDs and so on, but we'll need a little more help with the little man. I don't mind them being around, just don't want ds climbing all over me. Wink I think I'll ask my two local friends if I can call them if needed, my family are all in the city. Yorky and harecare - do you have tips/experience here?

waitingforalittlelamb · 05/02/2012 20:36

Hi littlesarah yep, my first. I know I'm showing a bit as clothes are definitely tighter, but still a bit 'could pass for too much cake' iykwim, I can feel her so I'm not going to worry about it too much :)

Sorry to hear halecromp really hope it eases soon, sounds like you had a rough time last time. I'm feeling like I might stop at one but I'm sure ill forget that when I meet her Grin

luckynumber11 · 05/02/2012 21:01

Hi everyone,
Thank you ladymaybe for updating the list - I had never got r

luckynumber11 · 05/02/2012 21:16

Sorry - hit send by accident!
As I was saying, I never got round to updating my details so I'm sure that was quite a long job for you ladymaybe going back over all our posts!
On the subject of Braxton hicks, I've never been aware of these in either of my previous pregnancies, nor in this one do far... Would quite like to know what they're like!
Also I've not had a linea negra. But I'm also fair skinned, guess this may be why. I'm more concerned about whether I'll get stretch marks. Have had all sorts of funny blotches on my tummy area this time round, and my skin is just generally more itchy this time. It's definitely reacting more this pregnancy, don't know if it's suddenly got sensitive.
Did everyone have fun in the snow today? My two DDs were mega excited this morning - up really early and screaming around like on Christmas day morning! So we went out in the fields in the morning, and then I had to walk my youngest to a party in the afternoon. Luckily in the same village but I still took about 40 mins each way at the speed of a 3 year old!
I'm now dreading the journey to work in the morning. I have to drive and the local roads are just compacted snow, not cleared in any way, and I know they will be a skiddy sheet of ice by the early morning. Once i get to the main roads it will be fine but I'm such a scaredy cat when it comes to driving in ice and snow, absolutely hate that feeling of sliding when I brake.

tostaky · 05/02/2012 21:21

hello everybody!!

we've moved flat this week.... Ds2 had chicken pox as well so it was a bit diffcult (no family around).
we had a manic week actually and i am soooo knackered tonight.
Baby has been moving an awful lot so i guess everything is well.
No braxton hicks and no linea nigra here, never had any with any pregnancies...

sorry for the rubbish post, just wqnted to read everybody's news and say hi!
off to sleep now!!

SESthebrave · 05/02/2012 21:35

Tostaky - wow, you've had a busy time of it! Hope DS2 hasn't been suffering too badly and that you mange to get some rest this week!

Lucky - I'm also dreading driving to work tomorrow. DH did dig my car out at lunch time and I took it round the block twice but it's just getting off our road and the next one in the morning onto the main roads!
DS did have fun today though. He managed to help DH build a snowman and threw a few snowballs at our dogs!

Is anyone else with other DC starting to find looking after them more difficult? I feel a bit pathetic but I'm just finding it more difficult to lift 2.8yo DS to move him if he's not listening to me when I need him to get dressed / go to bed / wash his hands...etc. He's very good on the whole but sometimes he has no concept of time and that he needs to get a move on and do things when I ask him and he's not easy to persaude!

Harecare · 05/02/2012 23:08

Hello! Been offline for a while, but all good here. Baby moving lots and DP and I seem to be getting along, we're still going to go to relate I think, but we have positive progress. Hooray!
sesthebrave I've always used "I'm going to count to 3 and if you're not here, I'll get you and I won't be happy/it'll hurt me/I'll be tired so you won't get a story/whatever". DD1 who is 4 responds within 3 as she knows by now that if I'm counting I mean it. DD2 is 2.4 and she is getting better. It takes consistency, but it's worth trying as a time limit is sometimes what is needed - that and a consequence. It means the consequences are always immediate too.
littlesarah DD1 went to her grandparents when DD2 was born and was back at home that evening. This time I've had offers from friends, but am assuming they can both go to their grandparents again. I just don't want them in the house with me. Ask your friends, people do enjoy helping out and getting involved. If I was planning a hospital birth I'd have to get them looked after, so it's no different really.

Yorky · 06/02/2012 11:01

Harecare - nice to have you back and glad things seem to be improving, hope it continues.

Siblings and HBs -
Both my younger ones were born after their older siblings were in bed, DD only just - I'd been to MW that afternoon and asked for a sweep as if I went overdue we'd have been moving when she was about 3days old! She put her glove on and told me I was 4-5cms! so went home and filled pool, I felt fine, couple of twinges but nothing painful, was timing twinges by clock on microwave while doing DS's tea - friend sounded a bit panicked when I said 'those 2 were 3 mins apart'. She took DS up for his bath and by the time DH came back from making sure she knew were nappies/PJs etc were I was kneeling and leaning on the chair saying 'I think it means it now!' I have always been so impressed that my body obviously knew when the 'coast was clear' and waited till then - DD was born within an hour from then with TENS and pool, MW and student got there in time to give me an internal each (twice the fun Grin) and DS met his sister about 1am when he woke and heard her crying and I heard from our room as DH went to settle him DS say 'baby?' which so clearly meant 'dad, am I cracking u or can i hear a baby?' At 22months we'd told him there was a baby in mummy's tummy but he didn't get it at all, he looked so pleased to finally see something he could recognise as a baby!

DS2 was born at 2am and DD slept through it completely, DS1 woke (unusually for him) so met his brother when I was still in the pool! He went to bed quite happily after coming downstairs for 5mins

Each time I've had someone free to run upstairs to older kids so DH didn't need to leave me, but haven't needed them much - friend who hadn't planned to be at DDs birth (we were supposed to be going for child free coffee and cakes while DS was at nursery after MW appt!) spent more time updating live birththread on MN than looking after DS once he was bathed and in bed - but she did go out and pick up the chinese takeaway - mmmm Grin, and my mum was with us for DS2 as it was half term (she works in a school). I suppose the obvious perosn this time is MIL who lives 45mins away, but not convinced I want her there while I'm delivering. I did jokingly suggest to a friend who is expecting her #4 in August that they could all come here for Easter (Easter Monday is 37 weeks!)

Sorry to waffle on so long, going to catch up now and reply to some people when I've given DCs something to eat and put on Mr Tumble to win me 5mins peace to MN!

Hello, well went to the docs today because not keeping down liquids so was thinking she might give me anti sickness drugs (which she did, might be worth a try halecromp) but looks lie its actually pre eclampsa, blod pressure was at 156 over 119 which is apparently rather bad. And protein in my urine (sorry if tmi) spent the day in hospital and have come home now but going to be monitored.
Quite freaked out, found out my mum was induced at least 8 weeks early with me because she was so bad with pre eclampsia (or so my dad says). Fingers crossed, any advice or experiences would be gratefully recieved.

dreamingofanallotment · 06/02/2012 17:56

I haven't got any experience of PE waiting but hoping everything goes well for you, keeping my fingers crossed that they can sort out your blood pressure and keep little one inside for longer.

Yorky · 06/02/2012 18:45

I didn't know sickness was a symptom of PE Waiting, I know there's a list of symptoms including headaches, high BP, protein in urine among others, and if you have 2 off the list they handle you with kid gloves monitor you pretty closely, my friend had it with her first 2 but although her BP went up when her 3rd was a week overdue she didn't get it last time, and although her consultant has prescribed her aspirin this time, she's also put her down as low risk and given the OK for a HB! so there is hope for the future (apparently it starts later ech pg - don't know how many you're planning Grin) although at the moment there is no cure for it apart from delivery of the baby, although I think 8wks early is a bit extreme. I think you will be encouraged to rest a lot, and it may be worth asking about aspirin. Will pick her brains to see if there's anything else useful she can pass on

OP posts:
waitingforalittlelamb · 06/02/2012 19:19

Thanks yorky that would be fab. Am signed off work and told to get my feet up, DH is being great. The 8 weeks early inducing was 27 years ago so imagining things have changed lots since then. I dint realise vomiting was a symptom but it is listed, just fairly far down the list, especially if it just turns up later on in pregnancy.

So far am planning to never do this again, although I imagine I'll change my mind when I meet her :)

SESthebrave · 06/02/2012 20:58

waiting - glad your GP was on the ball and they're keeping a close eye on you. Take care and take it easy ((((hugs))))

SirCharles · 06/02/2012 21:31

You poor thing waiting. My mum had PE with all 4 of us and we are fine despite beng born at 35, 32, 36 & 35 weeks. However it doubles my risk of PE, so I am told, & increases risk off brothers' partners having it too.... My consultant is at st Thomas & they have been doing studies into PE. I have been on aspirin since 14 weeks "just as a precaution" (to add to the family risk, one of my blood tests was low at the 12 week test)
There is a thread on PE on here somewhere. If you don't find it (& want to) let me know & I will link. They all seem to have got to the other side ok. Albeit not always prettily!
You must follow dr orders though re resting & avoiding stress. Not only for the baby but your future health.
Hope you are ok & got plent of support. Fingers crossed for you. We are all here to entertain you!

oltob · 06/02/2012 21:32

waiting - do get your feet up and let them look after you. a pal of mine ended up with HELLP which is an extreme type of pre-eclampsia. she was feeling really rotten with the pregnancy, vomiting carried on and then a very bad pain up under her ribs. she ended up with an EMCS at 31.5 wks, they'd not picked up the PE as all had been well at 28wk check. she's just gone on to have her second, she was given meds to control the blood pressure for as long as possible and DC2 was born at 33 wks, ELCS. I don't want to freak you out but just to say that if pain should develop, or headaches, flashing lights etc don't hesitate to give the maternity unit a call. Wishing you lots of luck, and low stress.
Technically I'm still on holiday (we were in sunny Devon for a long w/end and sitting in deckchairs in the sun yesterday!) so will fully catch up on thread when back.

Wrigglebum · 07/02/2012 12:19

Waiting, bet you are glad you went to the doctors so it could get picked up! I'd never heard of sickness as a symptom of PE either. Just make sure you follow doctors orders now and get as much rest as you can and keep a watch out for other symptoms. A friend of mine had PE and was induced at 37 weeks and had a fantastic birth, she's trying for another now so it hasn't put her off!

Hope everyone else is doing well, glad to hear things are a bit better with your DP harecare. I've got a midwife appt this afternoon so fingers crossed all goes well, I'm going to see if she can refer me for my sciatica. It's not too awful but it does really affect my sleep right now and I want to get all the sleep I can before this one arrives!

Got our crib on Sunday, made me quite emotional seeing it and I'm getting pretty excited about the baby!

SirCharles · 07/02/2012 15:00

Afternoon ladies! did anyone else see this thread? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1399735-What-happens-right-after-you-give-birth
quite interesting but read it all the way through to get a balanced view. It has answered questions I did not even know I had!!!

Mikocat · 07/02/2012 16:16

SirCharles - yes! I read that too. It's starting to seem a bit close now, I 'officially' entered my third trimester today (according to the app on my 'phone anyway!) and my DH asked me when I was going to pack my hospital bag!

Basse · 07/02/2012 18:47

waiting - oh you poor thing! Take it easy. I really feel for you. Big hugs.

I was going to have a whinge about my pelvic girdle pain which has come back with serious vengeance. I thought it was gone, now I can barely walk - all in three days!! Thankfully my GP was on the ball when I got it early on in preg so have a hotline to the hospital physio. Hoping it won't take two weeks to get to see her which is what I was told though! In the meantime any advise on what I should / shouldn't do??? Everything hurts apart from lying on my back in bed....Shock Mikokat, was it you that had it really bad a while ago? Is it any better for you now?

Yorky · 07/02/2012 19:11

Basse - get thee to a chiropractor, I am totally in love with mine Grin found physio referral useless but on Friday morning I walked out of his office without the support belt and almost painfree

LittleSarah · 07/02/2012 20:02

Hello all

Well, I'm now officially producing colostrum, 15 weeks before I am due, argh, this has not happened before! Oh well.

waiting - PE eh? Poor you. I'm sure with plenty of rest you'll be fine and hopefully won't have to be induced or anything too early. No experience I'm afraid but the others seem to have come up trumps!

harecare - Glad things seems to be improving for you and your partner, I didn't realise you had decided to go to relate, that seems very hopeful.

Yorky and harecare - Thanks for home birth and kids advice. I don't think I'll have any spare hands if it happens at night, hence the hope ds at least will sleep, but should manage to find someone during the day at least. At the home birth group they were talking about having kids around and getting them used to the idea, apparently there is something called home birth tv online with videos and stuff, must have a look, even just for myself and my doula training!

wriggle - It is exciting buying bits! We haven't got much as we have so much already but we got a bag of some lovely clothes from my friend the other day and that was really nice. Also ordered a wallaboo leaf wrap (read about it while lurking on other ante-natal threads!) which looks v sweet and handy for those colder Scottish days, of which there are many, even in May!

Basse - I agree with yorky. When I had a bad back a year or so ago I went to an osteopath (v similar I think to a chiropractor) and after a couple of treatments I felt much better. All the pain killers (which I could take not being pregnant) were rubbish so it was worth every penny.
