weeangel congrats to your sister, now you'll have somebody to keep you company nearly at the same stage.
tostaky can't you make some filled baguettes at home?Crispy, warm and delicious they are, with some garlic sauce,mmmm...
BlueCrane just take your time, make sure that you've got enough food if you have to stay behind.
I still got some Christmas cake from last year-prepared lovingly by my MIL but not my favourite thing I'm afraid,I don't like marzipan.
Icecream-what's your favorite ones?I love Mackie's of Scotland-honeycomb and raspberry swirl.Prefer fruity ones to chocolate with sherbets being definitely my favourite(strawberry or lemon).

LimeFlower · 23/11/2011 14:19

Mikocat midhusband sounds a bit strange but appropriate how are you supposed to name a man in midwife profession?Maybe ask the guy a question has he ever been called midhusband?:)

Wrigglebum · 23/11/2011 15:37

harecare, sorry your 'D'P is less than thrilled, must be tough. Hopefully he'll come around when he can feel the baby's movements. Early pregnancy is tough for men (poor dears!) as their wife/partner is replaced with a grumpy cow and all the worries about money etc.

opener welcome, sure I've seen you around as I recall the name (I am pretty good at opening jars too).

Warning- self indulgent rant ahead! Feeling pretty sorry for myself as I'm laid up in bed with a sickness bug- yuck. DS has a horrific cold so up the last two nights with him, felt full of cold this morning then suddenly came over all hot and cold and felt sick. Luckily my wonderful DH was able to come and work from home to help look after DS. He rang the midwife to see if there was anything we should do (try to eat- ha ha- and stay hydrated). Was sick an hour ago and feeling a teensy bit better now. I am not normally sick at all! On the plus side the cold has gone a bit now!

SESthebrave · 23/11/2011 17:01

Wrigglebum - that's rubbish. Hope you feel lots better soon and thank foodness that your DH has been able to help out!

cupcakefairy - I also craved salty crisps and salty biscuits last time round with DS and this time. We could both be set for another boy!

Harecare - really sorry to hear of your situation. Hope your DP comes to his senses, apologises and bucks his ideas up.

I've been suffering aches and pains for the last couple of weeks but today my right buttock feels like it's in constant spasm and is really painful to the extent it's affecting me when I walk! I got my pilates spiky balls out earlier and tried to work it through but it was just too painful. Any ideas anyone?!

Hello everyone else. Sorry for a quick post and not name checking everyone but just off to an evening meeting for work.

Wrigglebum · 23/11/2011 17:12

Thanks SES I don't feel sick any more just awful. Can't eat or drink anything without major pains. If this continues we'll be off to the OOH docs. Neither MIL or DM can drive the four hours to us and I can't leave DS with a friend in this state.

I'm starting to realise why some people stay in their home towns!

dreamingofanallotment · 23/11/2011 19:02

Arrrrrghhhh, just wrote a massive post and then closed the internet tab it was in. Durrrr!

Wrigglebum - hope you feel lots better soon. Can you keep down little sips of water or is it too painful? OOH docs is a good plan if you're still feeling rubbish.

SES - that sounds painful having a crampy bum!! Could it have been from sleeping in a funny position? (pillow between knees or something?)

myweeangel - how lovely that your little one will have a cousin so close in age! I'm really enjoying the naomi stadlen book - think I will re-read it once baby is born too as I'm sure I will read it in a 'different' way once I am a mum.

mikocat - midhusband sounds such an odd name (but logical too!) I haven't seen any men at any of my appointments - even when I was in the xray dept the other day for my kidney scan, all the staff were female!

I realised this week that at my 12 week scan the sonographer told me my placenta was at the front. She said it would probably move, but of course if it is still anterior (I think that's the right word) I'm not going to feel any movement for a few weeks. Boooooooooooo! Envy

I've also started aquanatal yoga (yes, yoga in water!) It's not as odd as it sounds though - In my mind I was thinking buddha positions on the bottom of the pool!! Really nice and relaxing - at the end of the session she gives us a million floaty things to put under our legs/arms/head/feet and we just float for about 5 minutes with quiet music and dim lights!

cupcakefairy · 24/11/2011 13:19

Oooh dreaming that sounds heavenly just floating in the pool with dimmed lights... my only experiences of swimming in the last 18 months have been with a wriggling little boy desperate to just go down the slide!! Grin

SES hooray for boys :) apparently the salt/sweet cravings relate to boy/girl but I don't really believe any of these things

mikocat there was a male midwife on One Born Every Minute and he was just called a midwife too...was quite odd though! Not sure I'd be too comfortable with it but I don't really know why Confused

Sorry some are still feeling so rough :(

goodname · 24/11/2011 13:40

Catsycat · 24/11/2011 14:23

Just checking in to say hello to everyone.

Glad everyone seems to be generally OK. Sorry to hear about the fainting episodes - I've felt faint and had to sit down a couple of times, but fortunately haven't keeled over yet!

LittleSarah, hope you are OK after your meeting with the bus! Sounds very stressful...

Sorry DP still hasn't come round Harecare.

I'm not scheduled to have another scan until the beginning of January, which seems ages away. Have been browsing the website of the private clinic I had my nuchal scan at, £170 for an anomaly scan at 18 weeks suddenly seems a very tempting bargain!

Had to crack open the bag of maternity clothes the other day, and was actually quite excited (in a ooh! more clothes! kind of way). Then I got the clothes out and remembered they were horrid. Especially the jeans. Has anyone ever found any jeans that stay up, BTW (especially anyone who is a size 16-18 and has a flappy 2 x caesarean belly to contend with)??? Am planning to buy loooads of leggings...

oltob · 24/11/2011 15:16

catsy - not the boden ones, what a waste of money that was, although they're the over the bump type so am hoping will get better as I get bigger and at least don't let the chill in when falling off my backside. The best I found were a blooming marvellous pair from first pregnancy, generous size 16 and only the slim elastic panel rather than overbump.

v quick post as work busy, had flu jab today too. thank you dreaming for the yoga reminder. I really enjoyed it first time round though never tried in a pool, that sounds amazing. am v pleased how much this thread reminds me to do - I have no short term memory at all at the moment.

re. male mid-wife, only one I've ever met was for my sweep with DD, not the best of circumstances. Happy Thursday.

LimeFlower · 24/11/2011 15:59

Wrigglebum sorry you and DS are feeling rotten.Hope it will pass soon.Glad you had some help from DH.
SES haven't got a clue about the buttock. Is it worth asking mw?
cupcake what's the story with the baking powder?
goodname hope you had a good time and ate plenty of delicious food. One of the places I'd like to go to.
Catsy do you know the date of your scan?I assume this is your 20 weeks one?I haven't got a clue about mine, next mw app is in 2 weeks, gut consultant next week.

Question to all of you:are you going to find out the sex of the baby at your next scan or are you opting for a surprise?

LimeFlower · 24/11/2011 16:44

According to some internet and some serious scientific (wee&baking powder) research I'm supposed to be team blue ;)

musicalmrs · 24/11/2011 17:09

What do we do with the baking powder Lime? I'm willing to give it a go ;)

Catsy my maternity jeans are incredibly comfy! In fact, I've been living in them when not in work clothes /pyjamas! I only have the one pair though, so may have to invest in more to ensure I actually have clean ones! Mine are over the bump ones from New Look. Also finding leggings v comfy - have just bought a maternity dress from Ebay, suitable for work, and will be trying to find more that I can team with leggings - once I've actually told work and am not wearing big baggy clothes that is! I've told the music services I work for, but not the schools I'm contracted out to (yet)...

My next scan is beginning of Jan too - 4th to be precise when I'll be 21w+3 - tempted by the idea of private, but don't really want to shell out for it just yet! I'm being kept busy by Christmas preparations (working as a music teacher, I've been preparing Christmas music for the last few weeks!) so hoping that'll keep my mind off of it!

So glad it's almost the weekend...

Catsycat · 24/11/2011 17:26

Thanks oltob. Currently I'm wearing a second hand Peacocks pair I bought from eBay during my last pg. They were the best of the bunch last time, sadly! Looking forward to being big enough to wear the overbump sort, as they seem to be the only ones that stay up really well on me!

Hi lime, I phoned the hospital to confirm the date from my 12 week scan (as it was done privately), and they said I'm on a waiting list for 8th January, for my 20 week one. I'm still to receive an appointment from them though. To answer your question, I will be finding out the sex if possible, and we're waiting until after we find out to tell the DDs, so we can tell them they are having a sister/brother.

Had a really annoying moment this afternoon - had the shopping delivered, and had ordered a 6 pack of coke (in bottles). I really hate coke, the smell of it turns my stomach, but DH likes it and it is the only non-wine option on the Tesco meal offer, hence the order. Anyway, I dropped the stupid pack on the floor, breaking 4 of the 6 bottles. Couldn't mop up the mess, because it was full of glass; couldn't vacuum it up, because it was full of coke... I ended up scooping it all up in kitchen roll - it used a whole roll (Juan Sheet does not, apparently, do plenty). Then had to vacuum (had already vacuumed about an hour before this happened...) then had to mop the floor as it was really disgusting. All the while, I was inhaling the delightful scent of coke. Made me very cross! I'm not sure why I'm telling you all this, other than to vent.

SES, could it be sciatica, as it is one sided pain? I get this sometimes, in fact had some nastiness with it over the weekend, and it usually centres on my buttock. I get it on the left, though it can be on either side. Are you getting any pain further down your leg at all?

Wrigglebum, hope you feel less rubbish now and managed to stay hydrated. Sorry I missed your and SES's posts before.

Catsycat · 24/11/2011 17:30

musical I'll have to have a look at New Look then, if their over bump ones are OK this early on (the ones I had before were too loose to wear until much later). Might see if I can convince the DDs they want to go there after Rhythm Time tomorrow, or convine DH he wants to go on Sunday... Must be lovely teaching music at Christmas, but very busy I imagine!

Catsycat · 24/11/2011 17:31

convince, even!

musicalmrs · 24/11/2011 17:51

Urgh, Catsy, the coke incident sounds horrid! :(

SES, sounds like sciatic-like pain to me. The best thing to do is to get it checked out by your doctor. My pain started like that - thought I'd accidently walked into something (clumsy!), but turned out I had/have a bulging disc in my spine. Worth getting checked out as soon as possible - and insist it is a problem, so they actually do something about it! Took me a few doctors visits to be taken seriously.

Catsy, it's a lovely time to be a music teacher - but busy! I work in six schools, and have a few concerts to organise music for, alongside concerts I'm performing in myself, and the general upcoming exams/GSCE recordings! As I said before, at least the busy-ness is keeping me out of mischief! :)

Yorky · 24/11/2011 18:40

Hi All

Lime - did you fizz? same here. anyone done the ring 'test' - can't remember if circles is pink or blue!

Harecare - hope DP sorts his head out soon, can't imagine how you're coping with him and your own hormones!

I remember when my mum's next door neighbour was learning hte clarinet (other half of semi) and Jingle bells started about mid October!

Wriggle - hope you're feeling better

I think aqua antenatal sounds blissful, am going to ask at our local leisure centre if their yoga class is OK for pg women - don't mind being told to sit out a couple of poses as long as teacher as antenatal experience.

Sorry to anyone I haven't replied to - head fried, trying to keep my eyes open long enough for DD to go to sleep before I try tiptoeing past their room to go to bed myself - last night was not a good one and I'm shattered now

OP posts:
LimeFlower · 24/11/2011 18:54

musical you're supposed to put some baking powder into the clean container and wee into it-if it fizzles then it's supposed to be a boy,if stays still-girl.
Catsy that was some punishement to clean it up.Lovely sticky floor with some glass splinters.
Yorky fizz and froth like mad!

Just had a peek at July thread.OMG,have you seen the list?

Moaning about time going slow, waiting for August to appear any day.

Catsycat · 24/11/2011 19:28

Just done the ring test Hmm. Circles is girl, pendulum is boy, supposedly. I got circles. Hope it's right Grin. But I think I might wait for my scan to confirm!!!

musical I definitely need to find some all-consuming busy-ness to keep me out of trouble (and off the MUMS website!).

Yup, lime, that sums it up. Now I have very dry hands from half an hour immersed in coke!

Have just read DD her giant pop-up hungry caterpillar book. It occurred to me that what he eats on saturday sums up most of the foods I've been eating while pg. It has made me hungry - must go and see if any of that swiss cheese is left....

LimeFlower · 24/11/2011 19:57

Swiss cheese???Swiss cheese??? drools all over the place

Spaghetti tonight-funny like I can't stand having meat itself like steak or chicken but spaghetti-no probs.Doused with garlic, all magic spices, pepper, mushroom stock cube, plenty of tomato sauce and handful of fresh herbs still from the garden.Yum,will stuff myself like turkey tonight...

Catsycat · 24/11/2011 20:05

Mmmmmm, yummyyyyyyyy!!!!! There was a big chunk in the fridge!

Enjoy your spaghetti lime - sounds lovely.

SESthebrave · 24/11/2011 20:14

Thanks for comments / suggestions re buttock pain. I reckon it could be sciatica as I am also getting some pain going down my thigh as well. Unfortunately it has started to appear in the other side as well though and then this evening I've also got sharp back pain on one side! I'm hoping I just have lots of relaxin flooding my body at the moment and it's temporary but if it persists into next week, I will go and see GP.

Lime - We're not going to find out the sex and we're convinced it's a boy Hmm . I guess that means we could get a hige surprise next May if we're wrong but I would be happy with that too!

Catsy - yuk at the coke spillage! Well done on clearing it up so efficiently. Maybe if it hadn't been Juan Sheet, you'd have used 2 rolls?

oltob - I had my flu vaccine today as well. Obviously the day for it!

dreaming - you've reminded me how much I enjoyed my ante natal pilates last time round. I'm not much good in the water so will do it on dry land though!

I ordered myself a maternity coat from New Look. It was in the sale so I didn't feel too bad. It arrived yesterday and I love it here . I would definitely recommend it, although the shape of it does make me look very obviously pg!

dreamingofanallotment · 24/11/2011 20:41

Catsy - I've found H&M maternity jeans to be brilliant - and they're not toooo £££ either (25 quid I think). Can't comment on how they fair with caesarean tum too though.
Coke incident sounds yuk too - that's the kind of thing that would put me in a mega grump at the moment! I'm so clumsy at the moment - anyone else more of a klutz than normal?!

Lime - I'm not planning on finding out gender at the 20 week scan - when I was scanned the other day, I purposefully didn't look to closely between the legs! Surprise all the way! (July list is MASSIVE!!! Telly was obviously rubbish in October! Wink )

Definitely going to do the ring test and baking powder test now! DH immediately asked how the baking powder test worked scientifically....ermmmmmm....I don't know but it'll be funny to do it! (just did the ring test and it reckons I'm having a boy - DH is convinced it's a boy too!)

Yorky - hope you get a better night's sleep tonight. I highly recommend aquanatal classes - I can always feel my joints kind of clicking into the right place again and my back feels less achey after I've finished.

Catsycat · 24/11/2011 20:41

Ooh, nice coat, SES! Hope the pain goes away soon though... Lol at the idea of 2 rolls - maybe Juan Sheet isn't too bad after all.
