Sorry for the new thread and crap name but i needed to start one oi how are you doing good luck xxx

I have fallen off the face of MN for a week or so and have loadsss to catch up on! I have been busy doing coursework and seriously nesting!!

PGP is awful, to the point of making me cry, finally got a pyshio app, but not for another 2 weeks :( doesnt seem much point. OH continues not to even attempt a massage if i ask and rolls his eyes.

Been having really bad shooting pains that take my breath away, but seems as though baby is head down (and very low) im guessing its a nerve he is on.

Very strange and TMI... but earlier (when i went to the toilet) i could feel what felt like the head bulging on the outside, through my lady garden lol... freaked me out!!

Good luck oi !! Fingers crossed

tye glad you took the sick advice!!

oi hope you are hanging on in there.

otherwise just marking my place

lalababy · 02/11/2011 09:37

Hi Oi glad you and the lil bub are alright!

Kri5ty you are gonna have to post several times a day so that we can finish this thread and start a new one with a new new name :)

Cheeptrickortreat · 02/11/2011 09:43

Oh well, my plans for today have already changed. HV can't come today as something important has come up and she can't make it.

I'm not haveing any BH and i feel a little better so will try to sort out the washing - how exciting Grin

Xiaoxiong · 02/11/2011 10:04

I have been having broken sleep recently so last night took some rescue remedy and slept right through - did have a nightmare though, a recurring one about my teeth falling out but combined somehow with me having to have surgery for something genetic (or terminal?) and worrying about the baby - and the surgeon was the director of music of the choir I sang with at university (who I never fancied but was wonderfully comforting in the dream) Confused

I have two more questions for you all:

  1. How many muslins? I have five (thanks to lovely MIL) but have seen recommendations from "zero, never
  2. We have been given lots of baby cardigans - I think we have eight in varying sizes - but does that mean instead of vest+babygro, we dress the baby in vest+babygro+cardigan+...? Do I need to buy trousers/leggings as well?? What if it will be sitting in a pram cosy when it's outside...but it will be Dec/Jan/Feb...(arrgh why is this so hard...)
HoneyLovesCake · 02/11/2011 10:05

Morning! Looks like it all kicked off overnight Shock glad you're ok Oi but if you could please tell gingerbaby to stay put that would be lovely Grin I always thought you'd beat me to it but I'm not sure I can deal with someone with the same EDD having baby this week; it underlines how much I still need to do Blush. Thank goodness you've been more organised than me!

Kri5ty sorry to hear your OH is still being crap. ((hug)) I don't know what to say really; have you tried making a fuss...I know at this stage no one wants to be having big rows but it's so important that he supports you right now. Are you making it clear that you need rather than want a massage; I find it incredible that he's refusing to help you; maybe you should just give him the choice between giving you a massage or paying someone else to do it...sounds like you need a treat. Glad your vertigo has gone though; that must be such a relief :) And don't apologise for the thread title; I like it...very apt!

Xiaoxiong · 02/11/2011 10:45

arrgh posted too soon...seen recommendations of numbers of muslins between zero and "can't have too many".

msbuggywinkle · 02/11/2011 11:03

tyel I love muslins, I have 24 because I use them as newborn nappies, then as boosters in bigger nappies for night times, then for face wipes/giant bibs when they start solids, but only rarely for mopping up sick as neither of the DDs have been sicky babies.

Earwigwam · 02/11/2011 11:19

My DS was a very sicky baby, think I have about 30 muslins as I bought them in packs of 10 and kept going back for more as I was running out. Similarly on the vests/sleepsuits, he vomitted all day long so I changed him roughly every hour.

If you don't have baby shops nearby it might be worth buying some spare cheap muslins, vests and sleepsuits from your supermarket to keep in packets to return if not needed. Better than being worried about laundry when you are busy snuggling a newborn.

itsybitsy08 · 02/11/2011 11:23

hiya again ladies. just checking in on new thread.

Kri5ty, ((hugs)) from me too, its an awful time to be feeling not totally supported. i hope the ladies on this thread help a little.

Oi I hope you and your gingerbaby are okay, thinking of you.

Honey I know, I am due 4th Dec, so around same sort of time, and its made me rush off to finish my hospital bags properly!

Re muslins, I dont think you need loads and loads, maybe a few more though- DD was not really a sicky baby, but you can use them for so many different things.

I used one in the moses basket and pram where DD's head was - tucked them across and in tight like a sheet, just in case she was sick, and then I could just change the muslin rather than all the bedding. I also used them as a cover over the pram to get her off to sleep when there was too many distractions around, or as a shade if sun was bright. Sometimes to help with a bit of coverage when breastfeeding. Sometimes as a tea towel when i got abit behind with the washing!

Maternity leave started for me this week, yay! Felt ready to leave, as not getting much sleep at the mo - whatever side i lie on, i go totally numb and wake up, tis awful! then up for school run and a fun packed afternoon with DD = knackered.

Now just need to find the motivation to go and get all what needs doing done - off to make a list i can tick off - i'm aiming for one task a day.

hope everyone else is all good, and has a lovely day :)

Mmmmcheese · 02/11/2011 11:31

Ugh, i have had a horrible morning. After my mw didnt turn up yesterday a different one came today and she really upset me. She was just really brash and insensitive and i guess im emotionally all over the place at the moment, but i spent most of the appt in tears.

Also, the last two weeks my bump has measured 32 and today it was 30. So thats 3/4 weeks with no change in bump size. I know its really inaccurate but considering the baby was measuring 1/2 weeks ahead on the scan it seems a bit strange. So the mw arranged an emergency scan for an hours time. Im not really that worried about growth as i know the measurements dont mean much, but i am worried that a trip to the hospital might set off my contractions again, considering that a trip to the shower sets them off! Am only 32 + 5 so really not ready for this babyto make an appearance yet.

Why cant i have a normal uneventful pregnancy? Feeling so fed up:(

Xiaoxiong · 02/11/2011 11:32

Goodness, well even to have half as many as you mrsbuggy I will definitely have to get on and get some more! And who knows, this could be a sicky baby and then I will really need them.

I ordered size one Bambini bamboo nappies which are from 7lbs up so hopefully once we've gone through this pack of 64 disposables a friend gave us we can go straight into those - great tip about using muslins as boosters, thanks!!

I read the hypnobirthing book cover to cover last night in about 2 hours - I had read the handouts but not the book itself and it was a good refresher. And now the mumsnet guide to babies arrived this morning - thank goodness I have the driving theory test next Thurs to keep me from just thinking about birth and babies all day!

mopsytop · 02/11/2011 11:33

Oh dear Mmmm, hope the scan goes okay and you don't get too stressed.

Xiaoxiong · 02/11/2011 11:39

Oh mmmcheese - I'm so sorry your MW was awful and insensitive, I don't know where you live but would love to come round and lamp her for you. I really hope the scan goes well, stay put cheesebaby!

Thanks to everyone for amazing muslin advice. I will be picking up a couple more packs for sure!! (we are always running out of teatowels...)

KateM77 · 02/11/2011 11:43

Hang in there oi Pleased to hear all OK

Sorry to hear you're having a crap time mmmmm

Another insomniac here. Woke at 3.20am and couldn't get back to sleep :(

Had my growth scan with pre-natal screening consultant this morning. I was referred for it because of the problems DD had with her bowels. All looks good. Bowels don't seem to be blocked and baby seems a good size so they're hopeful no bowel problems, but they can't say for certain until it's born.

Belly measured bang on my dates (34 +4), head measured 36 +5 (eeek!) and legs measured 35 +2. Estimated weight currently of 2.4kg which is a bit above average for general population and a bit below average for my personalised growth chart (consultant said he didn't like the personalised charts). Either way, it's within an acceptable range so all looking good. Given all the issues at birth last time he said there's a slightly increased chance that this one will be early too, but that's not a problem because it's a good size. Makes me think I'd better get my arse in gear working through the 'to do' list though!

He asked early on if we knew the sex of the baby and we told him no. He was obviously then trying not to mention it to us, but I'm pretty sure he almost said 'she' at one point Grin Not going to read too much into it though...at least I'll try not to!

aethelfleda · 02/11/2011 12:08

Hiya girls!
Have just had my first cup of raspverry leaf tea (I really like the taste!).

Hope all's going well, oi...

mmmmm, hope the scan is reassuring. The tape measurements are only useful in working out who might need a scan to check actual size- it may be that baby's fine and you just have a little less liquor than standard.

I am going to have to finish off my attic tidying pretty darned soon as it's getting tricky to fit through the hatch! I can still tidy up there, and get stuff ready to go into/out of loft but have to get DH to actually put stuff up and down. Gotta make extra space in our living areas for DC3, we have a "compact" house!!

HoneyLovesCake · 02/11/2011 12:24

I'm a bit Confused as to whether I should stop drinking Raspberry Leaf Tea; I had thought it was a weird coincidence but I seem to get really stong BH every time I drink it. Makes sense really; as someone Mmmmcheese(?) said last week "how can a herbal tea tone your uterus...hopefully BH do that" This article on Babycentre says If you have strong Braxton Hicks contractions after drinking the tea, cut the amount you drink but surely this is what it's meant to be doing?

Earwigwam · 02/11/2011 12:30

Mmmm - as you say scan will probably be fine as measuring is not that accurate, just a pain to have to heave yourself in if it is a wasted trip.

I have just been measured for the first time at 35 weeks so wonder why some are measured more/less.

DS has been unwell this week, seems to be a bad week for the threads older siblings. He went to pre school this morning as he seemed better but is now a tired little whiner who refuses to eat, luckily not his normal state.

msbuggywinkle · 02/11/2011 12:32

mmmcheese hope the scan helps you to feel better. Don't forget you can ask not to see a particular midwife again if you come across one you don't like!

DD1 is packed, and off in the next couple of hours! I'm hoping that a couple of hours playing there this afternoon will tire DD2 out so she goes to sleep before my doula arrives this evening. I'm really looking forward to a massage, and we're going to put in some time on the fetal positioning too.

Mmmmcheese · 02/11/2011 13:08

Thanks everyone, scan was fine thankfully. The weird thing is the baby is measuring as massive! I'm 32 + 5 and estimated weight is 5lbs 10 already! Shes off the growth charts but they still dont think i need a gtt. It just shows you that the tape measurements arent always that helpful. Also, cervix closed and sonographer didnt think baby was engaged so i am feeling very relieved. I really dont think she'll go to term though. If she does she might be 10 lbs at birth. That is very scary.

mopsytop · 02/11/2011 13:19

Glad all is okay though Mmmm and at least now if you do go early, you can be reassured she is nice and big.

Cheeptrick · 02/11/2011 13:24

Mmmmcheese - glad scan went well and baby staying put for now Smile

I had my scan at 32 weeks and my baby was 5lbs 5oz and consultant said she could be 10lbs when born if i go full term - its very scary Blush
She is enaged now tho and i have lost some/all of my mucus plug so i'm guessing it will not be long now.

hawthers · 02/11/2011 13:28

good news Mmmm well done to the evil witch concerned midwife who scared you for nothing got you checked out properly. now put your feet up and make sure those contractions don't do anything for a little while longer yet (although 10lbs is slightly alarming). DH's work colleagues' wife just had an 11lber naturally and she said it did smart a bit.

I still haven't packed my hospital bag but as i'm not going to the work conference next week i'll pop off in my lunchtime to pick up the last bits i need for it and get it packed early next week.

would like to request some advice - DH wants to have his BFF to stay for a night or two a week after the due date. the BFF lives overseas and only comes back once a year ish. he's a lovely bloke but I don't really want to commit to anything. i've never brought a newborn straight home from hospital so i've no idea what it will be like. co-incidentally he came to stay a week after we got DS home from hospital after a rather long stay in NICU so do you reckon that will be similar? feel rather mean saying no but at the same time i really don't want to be taking on more than i might be able to handle... thoughts anyone?

hawthers · 02/11/2011 13:32

oh and forgot to say that i'm getting out of breath while eating a sandwich - how pathetic is that!

Earwigwam · 02/11/2011 13:50

Hawthers - if a good friend who will look after himself and even make you the odd cuppa I would invite him but say no if the type to need running round after. Late pregnancy and newborn baby stages are hard enough.

Mmmm- a friend of mine had a similar prediction of big baby after a scan and had perfectly average sized baby so I'm not convinced about them.
