Sorry for the new thread and crap name but i needed to start one oi how are you doing good luck xxx

I have fallen off the face of MN for a week or so and have loadsss to catch up on! I have been busy doing coursework and seriously nesting!!

PGP is awful, to the point of making me cry, finally got a pyshio app, but not for another 2 weeks :( doesnt seem much point. OH continues not to even attempt a massage if i ask and rolls his eyes.

Been having really bad shooting pains that take my breath away, but seems as though baby is head down (and very low) im guessing its a nerve he is on.

Very strange and TMI... but earlier (when i went to the toilet) i could feel what felt like the head bulging on the outside, through my lady garden lol... freaked me out!!

Good luck oi !! Fingers crossed

tye glad you took the sick advice!!

Kate sorry your DH b/day evening has been ruined. hopefully you can make the best of the rest of the evening when he gets home.

Msbuggy Hand expressing seems bizarre to me, how would I get that into a syringe?! or would it be easier to just breast feed for a few days till my milk comes in and then express feed from there - breast feeding really freaks me out Sad

DarciesmumandBump2 · 07/11/2011 20:03

LMF just out of curiosity how will you be feeding?

Earwigwam · 07/11/2011 20:09

Darciesmum - if you feel you could bf directly for a few days that would probably be easier, but if not the hospital should be able to help with the hand expressing syringe thing. You never know you might feel differently about feeding a different baby, and you'll have 'had a go' so to speak.

Mmmmcheese · 07/11/2011 20:17

darciesmum i had to hand express colostrum for a few days as ds was in NICU. The mw should be able to show you how, its a kind of squeezing motion. I did it into syringes and only got 1ml the first time but very quickly got up to 5-10mls. Of course mine went into ds feeding tube so not sure how you would actually give it to the baby, i guess you can put the syringe in their mouth and they suck? But it was definitely much harder and more embarassing and weird feeling for me than if i had been able to feed ds directly. Its tricky to squeeze with one hand and suck it up with the syringe with the other hand and i had to get the mw to milk me the first couple of times which was very weird!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 07/11/2011 20:19

thanks Earwigwam will talk it over with my midwife more when I see her next week. I'll prob end up BFing for the first few days and then express and FF afterwards.

Mmmmcheese · 07/11/2011 20:21

Forgot to say, i used syringes for 2/3 days before my milk came in and could then switch to a pump. I doubt you could get colostrum out with a pump and as someone said above it would just coat the pump/bottle and you would waste most of it.

kri5ty · 07/11/2011 20:22

lmf I love that thread name lol.. I think you should start a new one now... seems as though I rushed in to starting this one as I neeeeeded to post quickly lol :-o

Mmmm How did you syringe feed? sorry complete novice at this!

kri5ty · 07/11/2011 20:30

darcies i know it'd be harder for the first few days but if you could manage to hand express with one hand... and kind of suck it into the syringe with the other hand? Then when you're milk comes in get a good dual electric pump? X

Mmmmcheese · 07/11/2011 20:32

darcies ds was in nicu and they syringed it straight into his feeding tube.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 07/11/2011 20:40

Kir5ty I've got a Phillips avent electric pump for when my milk comes in. it's just the first few days I'm worrying about.

LittleMissFlustered · 07/11/2011 20:45

Darcies I breastfeed. I just hate it. EBF my daughter to four months then introduced solids (as was advised in those dark daysWink )and continued with the breastfeeding until she turned one. My son was a little more complicated, I only EBF until four months with him, but mix fed (the dream feed was his formula feed) after and introduced solids at six months. He refused the breast after eight months, and to be fair it was a relief.

Right, I'm away to eat pasta and watch the episode of Masterchef the Professionals that is currently taping. Love me a bit of reality chef-snark:o

sevensevenseven · 07/11/2011 20:45

I'm amazed it's possible to express colostrum before the baby is born, is everyone capable?

kate sorry your evening has been ruined.

Is anyone else still having cravings? I hadn't had any for ages but I had to send DH out for chocolate cake earlier Blush

LittleMissFlustered · 07/11/2011 20:47

Oh, and glad you all like the Mixalot, you can all have that ear worm now:o

aethelfleda · 07/11/2011 20:50

Well, I fully intend to BF, but have still got two instant cartons of formula in my cupboard just in case there are emergencies (and have bottles and a steriliser which may well get used for EBM at some point).
When DD1 was 3 months old I left her (for the first time) with Grandad, walked 5 mins down road to the local cinema, saw a (sadly cr*p) film (Cock and Bull Story)... And then got run over on the pedestrian crossing by a numpty on the way home, causing head and hip injuries...Those few cartons of formula came in darned useful while I was being carted off to hospital In an ambulance and Xrayed.....

Xiaoxiong · 07/11/2011 21:05

OMG aethel - well there's a cautionary tale!! I'm glad I've got that emergency formula in the cupboard now!

Ow ow ow the kiddo has its bottom wedged firmly up into my ribs and it hurts - it's been going absolutely mental in there all day, I feel quite bruised!

aethelfleda · 07/11/2011 21:20

Well, yes, I'm not suggesting for a moment that getting run over is common/likely for you guys, but the worst thing that can happen to two 50p cartons of instant formula is they go out of date and get chucked.

Came over all domesticated this afternoon and made some biscuits with the DDs for the first time in aaages. May have been a guilt reaction to having to work this morning. Or maybe I just fancied biscuits....

kate, sorry about your evening. Maybe you could do takeaway tomorrow instead and pretend it's today?

mopsytop · 07/11/2011 22:04

Wow, this thread has gone mad today! All v. useful bf advice.

Tyel my baby is also wedged into my ribs and it hurts. She seems to like it up there. The outside of my bump actually hurts to touch there, like it's bruised a bit from her kicks!

LittleMissFlustered · 07/11/2011 22:09

I'm going to be prepared for either eventuality. I have an appointment with my consultant this week and my psychiatrist next. Lots of things are going to be discussed and decided in the next four weeks or so, but with Christmas looming I would much rather be fully prepared for both than have to make mad dashes about trying to get stuff when town is insane. I'm buying bottles and a steriliser this week (just need to decide between two brands I've narrowed it to) and will buy nursing bras in four weeks when it's a little more sensible. I already have millions of breast pads:o

fusam · 07/11/2011 22:11

Had my appt with consultant and booked for an ELCS on the 28th of Dec. I am so relived to have a plan. I know it's not most people's ideal but with all my ishoos I think I need the perception of control.

Will catch up with thread tomorrow going to bed.

LittleMissFlustered · 07/11/2011 22:32

Glad you've come to a decision that works for you fusam :) Enjoy the sleep.

OiMissus · 08/11/2011 09:20

Morning ladies, Those of you who still can, sque-ee-eze. :)
I must admit that I have never wanted a CS, but I like the control aspect of having it "in the diary", and must admit to thinking about it last week - I was feeling a bit sorry for myself and wondering how many days must I yo-yo between the delivery suite and the ward before they say, give the girl a break, let's go for a CS. (I really wasn't having that hard a time of it, I was just very tired).
Not that I'm against Cs's - Not at all! - I'm just a bit scared of operations. That thought scares me more than the thought of pushing a huge baby out of a pelvis. My two best friends had CS's, and neither of them knows what a contraction feels like. I feel quite envious! :)
Have a good day everyone!

HoneyLovesCake · 08/11/2011 09:57

Morning all! I'm waiting in for FIL's partner who's taking me shopping so I can get DP's bday & xmas presents...miserable grey day here but it should be fun.

Just had tesco food shop delivery, delivery boy asked if I was about to drop...when I said I wasn't due until beginning of Dec he said but you're massive Confused obviously I missed the memo on incredibly rude things it's ok to say to pregnant women Grin Funny thing is I feel massive but everyone keeps telling me what a neat little bump I have Hmm

Mmmmcheese · 08/11/2011 10:09

People keep telling me that im massive too, and i always got shocked looks when i said christmas. I actually dont think i look that big and my bump is only measuring 30 and im nearly 34 weeks, but on the scan the baby is measuring a few weeks ahead. Ill probably regret saying this but no stretch marks yet!

Im still feeling sick and had to get dh to get me some lemonade at 3am last night, which helped. Got midwife coming this morning, hope she turns up this time!

msbuggywinkle · 08/11/2011 10:11

fusam great that you have decided, it must be exciting when you get a date...it would be good to be able to do that for all babies!

Baby seems to be bouncing madly between engaged and stuck under my ribs over the last few days, I'm not sure which is more uncomfortable! I had a better nights sleep last night, only woke once for antacid tablets. DP was awake a few times with DD1 though who is having nightmares again, poor thing. Yesterday she told me that she had dreamed that her toys said they didn't like her, she was really upset! I've cheered her up by arranging a few play dates for later in the week though.
