Just a quick message to those a bit worried about being gestationally diabetic -

Everyone is different of course but I've just had a test (agree that drink is GROSS) and I wasn't diabetic at all but my baby's abdominal circumference and is way off the scale and so are its legs.

My fundal height jumped from 27 to 32 in two weeks so that was why I was referred for a scan and then with such a big baby's tummy they were a bit concerned.

My daughter was 8lbs 2 when she was born and midwives spent the last few weeks feeling my tummy and saying 'oooo that's a big baby' and raising their eyebrows which was pretty disconcerting. I wouldnt have said 8lbs 2 was massive though in the end.

Also, my husband is 6ft 3. When I mentioned this at the glucose test the midwife just said, 'oh well, there you go then'. They also reckon this baby is about 4lbs already (am almost 31 weeks) but anything can happen between now and Feb so I'm not going to worry.

On the plus side, bigger babies can squirm less on the way out as there's no room to be in a dodgy position in the last minute so that's what I'm concentrating on!

Good luck to everyone having a test and I hope you got a lovely extra scan to go with it. I saw our baby yawning and blinking so it was all worth it! :)

ZhenXiang · 29/11/2011 18:56

Well done kayano!!

NotCitrus here is a link to the summary of product characteristics for lofepramine so that you can research it for yourself. Incidentally I always look up medicines on the electronic Medicines Compendium, especially ones prescribed for DD. Also have you looked at SAD lamps? I hear they are good for seasonal affective disorder depression, see here.

I am not seeing midwife until 32 weeks after scan to check placenta, but have GP appointment in a week. I am expecting them to say that I am bigger than average as the baby already feels bigger than DD at this stage. Not suprising really as DD was 8lb baby and there is more space in there now for number two.

27+3

EsmeWeatherwax · 29/11/2011 19:29

Kayano I thought the Anti D was the worst of all the needle related pregnancy jabs too, it's really quite painful! And I have no problems at all with needles what with being an ex body piercing and tattoo fan.

Hermione it's true that you could just be measuring big, fwiw, I measured huge with both of my previous dd's too, and had all the growth scans and predicions of doom, and both were under 9lbs when born, which is not that huge really. Especially when you consider that dh is 6'5 and I'm 6' tall. Fingers crossed that it'll just be the notorious unreliability of fundal height measurements! If not, lol, we can keep each other company on the no chocolate sofa...a sad place to be! Grin I have another scan next week, on Tuesday, so looking forward to seeing his nibs again if nothing else. I'm hoping they'll give me some kind of idea of when my elcs will happen, I'm impatient to meet my ginormous little man!

phlossie · 29/11/2011 20:12

I had growth scans with ds - I had a low-lying placenta at 20wks, and had to be re-scanned to check it had moved. They checked his size and decided he was huge, but still let me go 15 days over Hmm, and he was only 8lbs 4oz. I had a GTT test too.

Talking of huge, I am. I weighed myself today and have put on nearly 3 stone. Makes me cry. I am such a revolting, gluttonous person. Basically, if I'm not dieting and controlling my intake very, very carefully I pile on weight. It means a massive amount of dieting when baby's here, and I'll be a fat bridesmaid for my sister's wedding in July Sad. I feel so depressed and angry with myself.

hermionejgranger · 29/11/2011 21:34

Thanks everyone for the reassurance - have had a bit of a worried afternoon but I'm feeling a lot better now. Phlossie if it makes you feel any better I've put on 3 stone as well!

notcitrus · 29/11/2011 21:36

Zhen - that's what the GP recited at me, which I'd already read - it's the usual manufacturer covering their arse stuff. What I'm ploughing through is the original research to find out how much it crosses the placenta and exactly what the effects in newborns are when their mothers haven't been taking any other drugs...

QueenFee · 29/11/2011 21:36

I usually put on about 3 to 4 stone. 9 months up and 9 months down I say won't worry about my weight till bubs is at least 9 months :)

phlossie · 29/11/2011 21:54

It does, thank you hermione and queenfee. I wouldn't be stressing about it so much if I wasn't to be my sister's bridesmaid in July! I also found that I was 9 months on and 9 months off, but only after I'd stopped breastfeeding - so more like 19 months off in the end... boo.

Good luck with your medication decision, notcitrus! It's always a hard decision to make.

I'm watching Flash Gordon. Rather, DH is - it's hilariously dated!

woowa · 29/11/2011 22:06

hermione - i'm amazed that your MW was so dramatic about it - when I read your update, i just thought that sounds within the normal range of completely inaccuate fundal height measuring!! I think it's hilarious that even though I have a growth scan every two weeks, my MW still measured the height and told me it was fine. I know she has to do it, but still funny!

I have scan number 8 tomorrow :) I spoke to the aquanatal MW this morning and she said the Royal College of Midwives (the union for all MWs) is not allowed to strike, so it'll be appointments as normal. A relief. I was wondering how they possibly could - it's not as if labour can be postponed to another day is it?!

I have a MANIC day tomorrow - we're going away for a week on thursday, and I'm out most of the day tomorrow, yet still have to wash and dry EVERYTHING, wrap presents, pack, shop, cook...and panic. Hopefully i'll make it on here tomorrow night as i won't be able to to for the following week, but if not, I hope you all have a good week!!

31 weeks today...7 til the sweep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

babycarmen · 29/11/2011 23:23

just popping on throught my phone to mark my place! The scan went well today and I got a lovely pic of baby and view of the hb. And no gallstones! Yay! Still more tests etc to go through though :( 2 weeks til my growth scan too and I'm so nervous aboout it, my bump seems TINY to DD and even my mum said she was worried baby would be small :( part of me thinks I'll be ok though :) I am so so tired today, had to take codeine the doc gave me for my spd it was really bad today and I ended up in tears. Went for a bath when I got home and fell asleep! Oops! Will catch up more tomorrow, of to sleep now - hopefully! 30+1

OddEyes · 30/11/2011 00:40

Just catching up, but fundal height don't work, tis just an average anyway. I was told twice measuring small both times babies massive, once was 6 weeks two small and sent for emergency scan all fine and she was 9lbs 8 in end.

QueenFee · 30/11/2011 10:38

Managed to drag a few boys names out of dh last night so current shortlist is Huw, Jacob amd Lewis.
Thank goodness we already have a girls name this is painfull!

Thoughts?

Kayano · 30/11/2011 10:51

I like Jacob the best. But I'm biased because every Lewis I know is a bit of a dick lol. Huw... I don't know

littlemonkeybix · 30/11/2011 11:14

I've always liked Jacob... and I like Huw.... But I'm not fond of Lewis... I'm with Kayano on the "all Lewis' I have known" front!! Wink

What names do you already have for your DCs? (sorry... seive brain) Sometimes names go better together

Kayano · 30/11/2011 11:21

It's funny isn't it. I can never have a Deborah for the same reason lol. Partly why I'm so anti- Sophie as a
Lot of them that I know are a bit 'meh' Blush

littlemonkeybix · 30/11/2011 11:54

Aww I like Sophie... and it was on my list (in my head) but we're already doubling up with a Lily in the family (one is 3-4) and there's a Sophie (age 18 months) in the same family unit! so I'm self vetoing!

I don't mind naming after people if there's a significant gap (Thomas is our boy name... my dad Grin But not after 2 or 3 years! Wink

I'll be honest... I am still not on the Lily wavelength... I KNOW if I have a girl she'll be getting the nickname Pip for her entire life from me!! Grin

26+2... and Thomas or Lily (pip) is kicking the shit out of my right side today (or punching.... indistinguishable lumps!)

PamBeesly · 30/11/2011 12:04

I like your name picks QueenFee I love Huw but spelt Hugh...sorry! And Jacob is our middle name pick, Lewis is nice but I prefer the other two.

Sophie is nice but if you don't like it maybe you'd like Sophia? I think its gorgeous, sounds so regal and elegant.

Lily is very sweet, I can't imagine Lilly not being a lovely person.

We're still in love with Rowan for our boy.

I like nameberry for names, I like the if you like...you'll love section Nameberry

Kayano · 30/11/2011 12:11

DH hates Sophia. The only thing I can think of for Sophie is that hopefully she will live to read. There are loads of
Books with Sophie's in them! The tiger who came to tea, bfg, and howls moving castle!

I love lily and so does DH but our surname is horn and DH is a giant of a man so I just can't help but think of 'Big Horn, 'Lil Horn' they'd be a right pair Grin

Names I like that DH vetoed:
Poppy
Eden
Naomi
Franchesca

Names I have vetoed from DH:
Peyton
Keira

littlemonkeybix · 30/11/2011 12:19

I LOVE Howl's Moving Castle Grin

littlemonkeybix · 30/11/2011 12:22

Can I have a moment of honesty....

I am still not feeling bonded to my bump Sad

I got excited about the pram... but in general I am feeling a bit meh about it all. I keep thinking I'm going to get all jolly and marvellous the more movement I feel "because I have anterior placenta" but I am still in he forgetting I am pregnant mind.

We're hardly moved along with any decoration (sore point) so I am not in the throws of buying loads of stuff.

Do you think it will kick in once I can buy stuff?!

Kayano · 30/11/2011 12:26

Aww monkey I'm sorry to hear that but you have all of us to talk to and for support Smile I didn't really feel bonded either until this week with all the drama I was suddenly so panicked that I was hurting her and I just suddenly clicked how much I want and love her Sad
Maybe that moment is coming for you x

i have been to the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo Grin

QueenFee · 30/11/2011 12:54

For me sometimes it doesn't click till I hold them in my arms. Bonding can take time even after birth. Don't worry will happen sooner or later.

My other kids are Cerys, Finlay and Alfie. The boys middle name will be Tom. And the welsh spelling of Hu(w)gh because we live in wales so its more common like that. We did mention Ioan a while back too. If its a girls twill be called Isla Kate.

PamBeesly · 30/11/2011 12:54

Narrows eyes at Kayano ...whats wrong with Keira (apart from the spelling!!) Grin I LOVE Eden out of your list and Eden Horn sounds lovely.

monkey I think sometimes its hard to bond with the bump, of course it is, I for one and am still afraid I'll do something and lose him or something awful will happen...sometimes its easier to not be in love with him/her. I talk to him and read him a story in the evening and rub him and sometimes he kicks me back but until he is here maybe the gut wreching love won't start. You are not alone in how you feel :)
