Omg hospital bag talk allready?! Gonna have to go get me a bag cos my only decent sized 1 is my gym bag!

I'm still suffering and resigned to going to the drs on Monday. Every time I eat I'm in agony Sad and I've tried everything! Sitting up strait, taking my time, eating small microscopic portions, just having liquids, just having toast but no matter what, within 30 mins I'm bent double in agony feeling like I'm gonna be sick but can't n then I'm uncomfortable for hrs Sad it's not indigestion n deffo not heartburn. Gonna be so miffed if they tell me to just deal with it cos I can't put up with this for 12 weeks Sad

PamBeesly · 19/11/2011 12:55

Hello everyone, I had to just pop on and tell you what happened to me yesterday. I had my GP's appointment yesterday morning and everything was fine BP, urine, baby measurements etc. Then we spoke about the flu vaccine and I decided to have it.Everything was fine for about 2 hours I came home made something to eat, then all of a sudden I broke out in a sweat and my entire body was drenched, I had agonising pains in my back and stomach (both upper so I knew it wasn't labour) and I had projectile vomitting(sorry tmi) I couldnt catch my breathe so had to get on all fours with my head on the ground, I really couldn't move but managed to call the GP who was at my house within 5 minutes (luckily she is only 5minutes away) She gave me a piriton injection straight away and told me to take two paracetamol to bring down the temperature. She listened to my heart and I was tachycardic (135 bpm) and my blood pressure was through the roof. She decided to ring for an ambulance because my husband works 45kms away and it was friday rush hour. So the ambulance got here and hooked me up to a bp and heart rate monitor. I wish I hadn't seen it because it said BP 163/136 I don't know much about BP measurement but that looked exceptionally high. I got oxegen (for the baby I think) and when I got to the hospital my observations had stabilised and they scanned the baby who was jumping around. They just said I was unlucky to have had a bad reaction to it. They told me to take piriton 3 times a day for a week and gave me a steroid injection that would elp matre baby's lungs (this scared me because I thought it meant I'd be having him early because of the reaction) they said they would give it to most people at this stage of pregnancy who came in in similar circumstances. They said they didn't think my chances of going into early labour were high but it was precaustionary to help him breathe if he did come. I am still worried about that. I have to go back to the hospital at 4.30 for the second injection of steroids. I did not sleep a wink last night despite being exhausted and groggy from piriton.
Has anyone else ever gotten these steroid injections before, and if so, did your baby arrive early? Thanks so much for reading this, I'm really Sad and hope he is fine

EsmeWeatherwax · 19/11/2011 13:08

Pam, what a nightmare. Glad you got help so quickly. I don't think the steroids themselves could make your baby come early, as hospital said, just a precautionary measure in case anything did happen to bring on early labour. I'm sure they will keep a very close eye on both you and bubs in the meantime. It must be horribly worrying for you, huge hugs from here anyway.

PamBeesly · 19/11/2011 13:21

Thanks Esme, the steroids were for the baby, not me. They help develop the lungs more quickly, it crosses the placenta and helps make more sufactant. I just panicked at the thought there was a chance he'd be coming early because of my reaction to the vaccine. In saying all that about my reaction I still think flu vaccines in general are better than not.

runaroundstartsnow · 19/11/2011 15:02

Pam, glad you ok, my friend had a carcrash at 28wks pregnant and they gave her steroids just in case. She didnt have her baby early though, it came a week late. The steroids are just in case.Hope you are recovered now.

Xavielli · 19/11/2011 15:14

Oh Pam! That must have been terrifying! Glad you are starting to feel better.

I had my 28 week appointment this morning and all is well. Baby is measuring 30cm which the MW said was completely normal but I've always been small for dates before so I'm envisioning 12lb baby heads at the moment!

CoffeeOne · 19/11/2011 15:36

Pam that sounds awful :( keep us updated. I'm sure you and baby will be just fine.

OddEyes · 19/11/2011 15:49

Pam - hope you continue to feel better. Try not to worry about babe coming early, steroids will be doing their job just incase and I think your out of the danger zone. Rest up. Totally agree still best advice to have flu vaccine.
I am breathless yes but not as much as before yet... Reckon it is positional though.
With ds it was awful at 33 weeks, a few metres walking had me panting and midwives sent me in, doc thought I must have pulmonary thrombosis and did lots of scans, a day later ds who was at that point breech, turned and i was much improved. I think at 35 weeks he started to engage and I was fine again. Saying that he was 10lbs 5oz, so putting rather more pressure on my respiratory system that a normal baby.

Squiglettsmummy2bx · 19/11/2011 15:58

Hope you are ok now Pam, must have been so scary for you x

deardear · 19/11/2011 16:12

Pam cant imagine what you were going through with that! i havent had the flu jab a) because i cant stand needles going in and b) i really dont want to come down with any flu like bug afterwards as it goes straight on my chest.

just about to go off for a bath and preen ready for dinner dance tonight :)

Kayano · 19/11/2011 16:39

Oh pam ConfusedSad

So not getting that jab now!

Baby is having a backwards day today, didn't get disturbed all night but she has been booting me all day!

phlossie · 19/11/2011 16:45

Pam, that's horrible. So traumatic! Have you ever reacted badly to medication before? As the others have said, steroids are absolutely to prepare your baby incase he comes early, but doesn't mean he will. It sounds as though he's doing just fine.

I agree about having the vaccine - you were unlucky, most people are fine.

oddeyes, you reminded me about my ds which reminded me of something else... EATING CHRISTMAS DINNER!!! DS (also a Feb baby) was squishing my stomach to the extent that I couldn't eat. He then engaged at 33 weeks - the week before Christmas so that I could eat Christmas dinner! I hope all our babies move away from our stomachs so that we can eat what is, quite frankly, the most important meal of the year!

I think I'm in total denial. I am constantly stressing about how much I've felt the baby move, but I still feel like having the baby is ages away, and that I don't need to sort out anything. My thoughts are very in the moment - baby's movements, feeding my face and sleeping being my top priorities. You'd think that having done this twice before I'd know what to expect! I think I'm still too scared of it all going wrong to think about snuggling my newborn... which is all I really want!

I'm very grumpy today.

Hope you're feeling ok mellie. Gall stones?

babycarmen · 19/11/2011 16:49

Glad youre ok Pam, Must have been very scary!

I feel rubbish and have cried just about the whole day :( I wont go on and on about it as im always moaning on here but ive just had enough with everything and not coping very well with some stuff. Just to make me feel worse, Ive been getting non stop BH since last night and baby is hardly moving at all probably because im getting so worked up. Get little movements now and then so i know shes ok.

28+5

QueenFee · 19/11/2011 17:06

Oh Pam how horrible. I have had severe allergic reactions in the past (when not pg) and they are very scary.

Baby do something to relax and treat yourself x

I have a really bad tummy been up all night and the cramps remind me of labour pains which is scaring me. I am also cross with dh as he threw a strop when I asked him to take ds2 downstairs :( I normally don't mind the kids all being around me but when bent double on the loo its not what I need right now. He gets to use the loo in peace all the time and the one time I insist on it he gets angry grr
I am not sure if I have a bug or if it is a reaction to the heartburn tablets I started last night. I hope its not as they are the 1st thing I have found that give me relief. It was dds christmas fair at school yesterday and I ate a hotdog there which is another possibility I suppose :( feeling very sorry for myself.

phlossie · 19/11/2011 17:29

We're definitely in third trimester terriotory, aren't we???

babyc - I've been having loads of BH too, and some quite uncomfortable.

Queenfee - I think heartburn/indigestion/reflux has made me puke a couple of times. Ha, yes, my DH is very insistant that he gets the loo to himself (tbf nobody would want to be in there at the same time as him!), but I often have an audience. But not when puking!

Hermione - a belly bra is a kind of sling that goes around your back. It has a wide panel that kind of 'lifts' your bump and takes the strain off your lower back. It sounds/looks simple but it is a MIRACLE for sore backs. The difference for me by the end of the day is immense.

I'm also very tearful. I feel like I can't cope with house buying/selling/renovating/miving schools etc etc. I'd like to hibernate with my duvet, preferably at my parents' house in front of their wood burner with my mum doing the cooking.

And whinge away, everyone. It makes me feel better!

CoffeeOne · 19/11/2011 17:39

I think everyone on here needs a big glass of Wine today!

PamBeesly · 19/11/2011 17:50

Thanks everyone I went back to the hospital for the second round of steroids, she said his chances of coming early aren't raised and its a precaution (nice to hear it again though)
I've never had a reaction to any vaccine and had quite a few last year for my honeymoon. I think I reacted so badly this time due to histamines in my system. I was diagnosed with polymorphic eruption of pregnancy at 14 weeks (very early) and put on Piriton daily, as the itch and rash cleared up I was told its better to stop taking them. I had no real problems after stopping but according to my GP my reaction to the flu vaccine was due to histamines. I've been put back on Piriton 3x daily for a week and have to go back and see how I am doing then. I'm groggy from them, can't drive but also can't sleep! I'm glad its not more serious and I'm reassured that he is ok in there.
I really still would advice pregnant women in general to get the flu vaccine, its just me who had the reaction and for a specific pregnancy related reason.
Kayano I know you've a terrible fear of needles but I just have to tell you I was like a pincushion yesterday getting so may jabs and I really felt nothing! I know when you've a phobia its the anticipation of it that adds to it, just hope that reassures you though :)
Babycarmen sorry you are not feeling great, hope you can put up your feet and relax x

Kayano · 19/11/2011 17:55

Glad you feel more reassured and they can tell you why it happened Pam.

Speaking of my needle phobia. It is my anti-D injections a week tuesday and I have been discharged from hypnotherapy and the psychologist because they think I am 'ready'....

We will see Smile I hope so though.

louby86 · 19/11/2011 17:55

Just came on here for the first time this weekend and what a shock! Glad you're ok now Pam what a traumatic thing to go through!

I agree, we should all have wine tonight! Smile

PamBeesly · 19/11/2011 18:00

Kayano I PROMISE the injections aren't sore at all...its the lead up to it thinking of it, still great the hypnotherapist and psychologist have faith in you Grin

Louby wine! what I wouldn't give...however I'm not even going to have a cup of tea in case it does anything now

babycarmen · 19/11/2011 18:16

I could do with a bottle of wine never mind a glass!

Im going to go for a nice long bubble bath around 9pm when DP finishes work. When i try and talk to him about things he just says "Oh stop being so hormonal" YES i AM hormonal but im also very pissed off and stressed with stuff that has got nothing to do with me being hormonal. So im going to be very mature and be in the bath when he comes home then try and sleep. I keep waking up loads in the night because im not comfortable, need to pee, babys kicking or something :/ im so tired, which doesnt help my mood!

Baby seems to constantly have the hiccups just now, its cute but gives me the heeby jeebys a little bit!

PamBeesly · 19/11/2011 18:24

babycarmen I had a similar thing with my husband, he doesn't get away with brushing things off as 'hormomes' after my talk! I think its important to tell him, while you acknowledge that of course, you are ore sensitive in your pregnancy, it doesn't make your concerns or worries any less important, on the contrary he needs to be doing more to help your relax. You are a reasonable person who just wants an bit of understanding (that was my spiel to my husband feel free to steal it if it helps) and YY to the bottle of wine, cold sancerre out of the fridge and a big meat and cheese plate. Thats just my fantasy there.

m1nn1em0u5e · 19/11/2011 18:33

Pam, that sounds horrific, hope you are feeling better soon, my son suffers from severe allergic reactions to nuts/peanuts, we have to carry adrenaline for him just incase & it is so scary to see someone having an allergic reaction, can't imagine how it actually feels.

babycarmen, I totally sympathise, dont know what is wrong with me but im tearful, tired, fed up of heartburn, feeling nauseas, being tired, having an achy back/pelvis.....im just a general grump! On a positive note, my new sofa has arrived which cheered me up a lot!..

Need to get myself organised for Christmas/the baby arriving, but everything seems far too much effort today!..Always tomorrow!

mummymccar · 19/11/2011 18:43

Haven't been on the thread for a while and shocked to see you've been so poorly Pam! How are you feeling now?
Phlossie - the belly bra sounds fantastic, do you know where I can get one from?
Not much to report here, though midwife noticed I was wheezing the other day and referred me to the asthma clinic. Looks like I could've had asthma for years and not known! Got an inhaler now and it is helping so much. Baby is kicking lots and growing well.
Had a word with my mum again today about buying too many pink things after Louby's switch to the blue bus. Have you got any names in mind Louby?

louby86 · 19/11/2011 19:09

No names just yet, think it'll be a few days before we can agree on anything. Enjoyed my shopping trip today though, got a lot of blue clothes now Grin
