Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Fish, shonno - how rotten your pain sounds. Hope things look up a bit soon...
Ghost belated congrats on your DH being home - must be lovely to have him back again!
Parsley, when is the big day? (Wedding, I mean Grin).
We have been having a sort of organising day - putting all the furniture back in our dining room now the floor's laid and having fun rearranging it all. Just waiting on DH's brother now to bring in the really heavy stuff (and DH has made spare ribs for all of us for dinner so yum, hope he gets here soon!)

It's been yet another beautiful autumn day so the girls have been outside all day - they are so amazing and resourceful, they never get bored, always have superb ideas of what to play - I just love eavesdropping on their role play/make-believe... Addicted if your 2 LOs are going to be as close in age as it sounds (about 15 mths?) I hope they get on as well as our two (slightly bigger gap - 20 mths) - they are sooo close and play beautifully together, always have done. It's tough at the beginning, because the older one is still so little, but they very quickly grow close Smile.

My mum is flying out tomorrow so she's getting the task of washing, ironing and counting all the baby clothes to see what else, if anything, I need. Then we need to start shopping and baking for DD1's birthday next weekend.

Have a good week girls!

ParsleyLion1 · 30/10/2011 19:08

19th November. Grin I have taken your advice and ordered some flat shoes.

Oeisha · 30/10/2011 19:29

Evenin all!
addicted belated birthday congratulations for DD. Grin.

ghost I hope you're continuing to enjoy DH being home. [hgrin]

worm 4d scan sound lovely! I can only imagine Abi taking umbridge and either mooning or showing me the hand...she doesn't seem to react well to being spied upon.

fish I hope you get better soon.

W/end with family (or most of it) went ok. Just stupidly super-tired now (so tired, I feel like I morning sickness has returned). Unfamiliar beds are not good I can thus conclude. Got given a shed load of girly clothes, so yay! Though I am partly horrified by the sheer quantity of pink. I don't remember my neice being that pink...

I'm also now more confused than ever about what to dress Abi in. So far all the births of all the babies in family have happened between June and October, so I'm utterly paranoid that all the clothes I've been given aren't going to be warm enough etc. Must do some tinterweb searching and gain my own opinion on the topic. Going into shops and looking what's available is of no use. I've seen full on outfits (tights, skirts, tops) etc for newborns - seems like a pointless waste of energy to dress a newborn in 'proper' clothes...or am I being mean spirited?

ParsleyLion1 · 30/10/2011 19:40

I agree on the newborn thing oeisha I was thinking I mostly need babygro type things and something for outside.

Have any of the non-first timers had winter newborns?

addictediam · 30/10/2011 19:54

I had an October baby and last year the snow appeared around November and was bitterly cold. I did dress her in full outfits tho, but on bad days (ie days where everything went wrong and she never got dressed as everything was too much!) she wore a baby gro with a jacket for inside and she had a snow suit (with jacket taken off) when we went out so mummy didn't go crazy!

Butterfly yes they will be 14.5 months apart [hshock] at this moment in time im feeling alittle overwhelmed and like i must be crazy!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 30/10/2011 20:02

God - I was thinking vest, babygro, cardigan, little hat then a fleecey snowsuit thing for going outside in. I'm planning to use a sling quite a lot, so hopefully that will keep it warm. I think that post-childbirth is the one time you can legitimately live in your pajamas (for mums and babies) so we may as well make the most of it!

FiL was on bestest best behaviour all weekend and seems to have taken on board the rather severe words DH had with him when they had their spat last week, so the stay was nowhere near as arduous as it could have been and I slept really well thanks to the smushy soft bed I had - with DH in another room! lovely.

The christening of our niece was like the seventh circle of hell - I felt like I was in a Jeremy Kyle afterparty. Honestly, it was a fucking circus. The Godparents (all of them with less clothes and more fake tan than 'the only way is Essex'') giggled at the vows, the children were totally hyperactive, the baby wore a tiara (I swear to god) and the food was Iceland's finest - oh yeah, and the DJ (oh yes, the DJ) was playing music more appropriate for a strip club and at a volume that left my ears ringing. My poor little Sproglet went into total hibernation for the whole thing.

I also have a bit of news - DH decided to tell the various families what we're having, so I've decided to share it with all of you: it's a little boy and I swear he looks just like his daddy on the scans. We have a name, too, but I think I want to keep that to myself for now :)

Right - need to go slob - it's been a pretty full on day

skeletonfishbonesandlilacs · 30/10/2011 20:14

cakes woohoo another one for team blue! They all look like thier dads i reckon-I'm sure I read it's something to do with the ape in us-they look like thier dads so the daddy apes don't eat them :)

addictediam · 30/10/2011 20:16

Sorry vest and hat as well as mittens and a blanket! But I took the jacket off.

Oh my word, a tiarra! It sounds like a hellish day!

shonnomanom · 30/10/2011 20:24

Onsies and Vests are a staple in the first few weeks for sure.
Dd was a May baby and thats what she lived in at first while unless there was reason for her to be 'dressed'.
Definately some cardigans, warm hats, gloves and snowsuits too. Winter dressing of the newborn has been a concern of mine for a while.
Also, especially for the first timers, its quite difficult to get some clothes on babies, especially bloody tights! Onesies allow you to get used to being a mum without the task of trying to figure out how to get fidgety tights on a wriggly baby.

Can I offer a tip, ignore if you wish:

  • Someone told me when dd was a nb to make sure that she always had on at least one layer of clothing more than I did.
And remember if your worried about overheating to check somewhere like the body rather than a hand for example. Dd still to this day has icecube hands and feet.

Iv been having a mini freak out this weekend. So much stuff to think about and organise. Many many lists to be written! Going to have to do a shopping trip for the hospital bag as im only comfy in certain pj's and undies and have been constantly wearing and washing these for months some undies are falling apart, they have seen better days [hblush]

Hope everyones well or better x

skeletonfishbonesandlilacs · 30/10/2011 20:30

shonno I have heard the one layer extra thing too-I think it may even have been in the NHS book.

Oeisha · 30/10/2011 20:43

I've heard the one extra layer thing too, but, well...I'm dubious about that as, especially indoors, me and DH vary considerably as to how cool we feel!
I'v also hear sneeking your hand down the back of the neck is the best way to detect temperature. If they feel cool, add a layer until they feel 'warm' if they feel cold, snuggle them until warm and then add layers until they're warm in the cot/whatever...
I guess asking these questions is what antenatal classes are for?

Oeisha · 30/10/2011 21:38

Oh! and cakes congrats on team blue! Grin

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 31/10/2011 07:02

Ah fuckit. I think I'm getting a cold sore

This is a new thing for me, I only started getting them from last Xmas - did anyone here know that a primary herpes infection can make you seriously ill? That was fun. Now I get little reminders of it every time I get run down.

btw - is anyone else impressed I made it through the weekend without alienating any of my in-laws or being put in jail for ripping off their hands? I've never been grabbed at so much in my life - they wouldn't leave my belly alone!

Nanny01 · 31/10/2011 08:15

MakesCakesWhenStressed - SO glad that to hear another for team blue also hope that you feel better soon. As for me I am struggling to find things for Elliot. The nct sale had very little. However dh and i went to the baby show in London and finally choose a pushchair ( Uppa Babby vista) dh thought it offered value for money as you got the carry cot, rain covers and car seat adapters. We looked at all the models at got £100 of the rrp. Also got breast pump and sleeping bags reduced in price to. Dh didn't moan the whole day and carried it all for me. The only down side was we were an hour late and mum moaned at us even though we only spent 3 hrs at the show. The pushchair is an early xmas present to dh and I ( though I still might get him something to open on Christmas morning. Any way now school has started again except for the girls ( inset day) and dh has this week off.

skeletonfishbonesandlilacs · 31/10/2011 09:18

Grr why is it when youre pregnant people who would normally blank you suddenly make a bee line for you.
I just popped to supermarket for some milk and ran into my old team leader form a place I worked about 10 yrs ago. She was a grade A bitch, instrumental in me becoming seriously depressed for the first time and never took a bullying issue I had with someone else seriously, kept telling me I was paranoid and oversensitive. Over the years we have at most nodded at each other if passed in the street more often she pretends to not see me. Oh no not today. Effusive over friendly "wow look at you you are HUGE" goodness me really 10 weeks, you look like youre going to drop tomorrow" gushing bla bla bla. Then she touched my bump it was all I could do not to rip her bloody hands off, so I hear you cakes and I sympathise. I may have to have her killed.

I'm still ill but not as bad as yesterday. Got some serious catching up to do this week. DD went to school without upset, she was really good.

ghosteditor · 31/10/2011 09:23

well done on the shopping nanny - it must feel great to be getting sorted! We have never actually decided on a pushchair - I really wanted a Bee, DH wanted an iCandy Cherry, but we weren't convinced that either of them were quite right. Long story short, we are borrowing a Silver Cross Classic sleepover from a friend for a few months, which is an enormous but very good quality pram, great for winter, and then we'll decide. Possibly when the baby is old enough to just have a pram that isn't suitable from birth, which will be cheaper for us and open up some other options.

cakes congrats on not sinking to the level of your inlaws! And TIARA??? The only people I can stand touching the bump are DH and a few of my oldest friends (who are touchy feely anyway). Was furious when I got bump-groped at the airport by the female security woman - she had a proper feel then said 'ooh, baby is asleep' - I had to restrain myself from telling her where to go.

parsley oooh not long to go until the big day then, how exciting!

Had a lovely, if busy, weekend and it is so wonderful to have DH home. My parents stayed last night and he cooked a fab meal for us all despite being really tired from the last few weeks. He's such a sweetie! My mum has gone a bit crazy with shopping for the baby and brought the most beautiful blanket and little outfits for the baby, plus she and my nan have been knitting away and have knitted some little cardigans and booties and mittens for the baby (complaining all the while about not knowing if it's a girl or a boy Grin). Plus they bought the cutest comforter and sleeping-bag thingy and a really lovely owl toy for the pram (we have a thing about owls). All in all a lovely lovely weekend! And to round it all off, this week is the start of my reduced work schedule and I'm only working 4 day weeks in November. Hurray!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 31/10/2011 09:27

Yay for the reduced work schedule ghost and your daughter being so much happier fish.

I think I'm going to go to bed, but I'm aware I've been a bit me me me lately and I didn't want to ignore people - I always read what everyone says, I just can;t always think of something to say.

Are we heading for a new thread yet? What are we going to call it? Attack of the PGP? Harry Potter and the horrendous heartburn? Death to bump gropers? I like the current name so much I think fish should make some suggestions :)

GiraffeAHolic · 31/10/2011 09:30

Morning all.

31 weeks today Grin My baby could be here in 6 weeks time!!

I'm off to a baby and bumps groups this morning with my cousin and her 4 month old (so we have the whole quota of requirements :)) it's bump to 1 year so won't be full of toddlers. I'm quite excited although it feels weird going to a baby group without dd.

Re baby clothing; dd was born in March but it was snowing. I did short sleeved popper body, long sleeved sleepsuit and maybe a cardi inside. Long sleeved popper body, long sleeved sleepsuit and coat/pramsuit outside.

I worried about the clothing issues for ages before dd was born but once she was here it was pretty much instinctive. I did buy a Gro-Egg thermometer for her room which changes colour according to temperature and found it really helpful and reassuring.

GiraffeAHolic · 31/10/2011 09:39

Ooh and something really freaky happened last night.

I was laying in bed and dh's arm was over my bump and baby decided to say hello by pushing sooo hard against the skin. Dh's arm moved up in the air and you could quite clearly see and feel a huge lump (I'm guessing bum) protruding just above my belly button, it stood about 2 cms clear of the bump and felt so bizarre.

I really thought he/she was going to perform their own Cesarean Grin

addictediam · 31/10/2011 09:40

Has anyone realised there are only 2 more 'busses' (november and december) to 'pull in' before we all start to drop! [hshock] thats come around quick.

ghosteditor · 31/10/2011 09:43

giraffe that's awesome! Grin It is a bit freaky when you get a really hard protrusion at a random point in your belly, isn't it! Could it have been a foot?

ghosteditor · 31/10/2011 09:44

addicted - trying not to think about that Grin

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 31/10/2011 09:45

Giraffe - that happened to me last night too! Baby always responds to the weight of DH's arm laid across him, but last night was very violent - maybe it's Halloween?!

My step MiL lent me her overlocker and I'm going to make breast pads this week, brought on by the fact that when rubbing bio oil into my boobs this weekend I got some leakage - eek.

addictediam · 31/10/2011 09:47

Giraffe I love it when they do that streching thing, mine does it after being still for ages then will start kicking around, so I assume sleeping, streching and playing! dd did it too and I love feeling the little bum, hands and feet and other pointy joints!

skeletonfishbonesandlilacs · 31/10/2011 09:52

Ooh I like January 2012-Grope my bump and go to hell! Or maybe thats a bit nasty? :)

How about Jan 2012-Can't wait til the work is done and babies start to come
