ghost that is really rubbish, hope he makes it home soon

shonnomanom · 27/10/2011 13:05

m2b glad to hear things are slightly better at home
ghost sorry to hear of dh's delay in coming home x

Went to Physio today and was seen by the head of womens health. Lovely essentric woman. Anyways im now on crutches when not in the house (oh happy days) It took me 20mins to walk from the physio to the car.
She worked a bit of magic as my pelvis has came off line again. Also she asked when I start my Mat Leave, then asked me when I was actually finishing. This woman is a great believer in listening to your body. As she says if you dont look after your body prior to birth its something else to deal with after the birth. Good point I think.
So Iv decided to give my boss 2 weeks notice of finishing early. New Date is 11Nov - 2weeks tomorrow.

Took dd to the gp. And they want to check her urine for infections. She was sick last night but so far nothing since and has only eaten a youghurt since yesterday mornings weetabix.

Hope everyone is well x

Hello all, I'm new to this thread, due 28 January with my first. A friend bought me the MN Rules and Pregnancy Guide, and they had me laughing hysterically, so I thought I'd join.

I'm not sure I have more to contribute than I started having a few BH this week (26 wks), which was completely strange. I thought they didn't happen until a lot later on, but MW assures me it's normal.

ghosteditor · 27/10/2011 16:14

hellooooooooo mrsamerican and welcome to the list. I think you've caught us during a very busy week and I'm sure we're occasionally a bit cheerier than the last few pages would indicate (I've done my fair share of depressing posting Grin). I blame the miserable weather here.

I've had some BH too (or Higgs-Boson according to someone's partner - that amused me muchly; who was it?) and it's definitely quite noticeable by this stage!

If I don't ask some nosy questions, I'm sure someone will - so are you in the UK? When will you start maternity leave?

In any case, welcome!

ParsleyLion1 · 27/10/2011 16:16

Welcome mrsamerican Smile

I'm due on 30th so we're fairly close in timing.

Good to know you've made a decision on the maternity leave shonno sound like the right move for you. Listening to everybody on here I'm beginning to think I'm naive hoping to go to mid jan. I know that it will all depend how I feel but the more time I take off before baby the less time I will get afterwards. I'm thinking that I will mostly be working from home by the time I get to jan though and any time the weather is bad. Last thing I want is to get stuck on a train !

ghosteditor · 27/10/2011 16:18

good news about the physio shonno - I'm a little bit in love with my physio: he's awesome and has fixed me up several times. Thankfully I've only needed to see him twice during the pregnancy so far, which is much better for my bank balance! Do make sure the crutches are at the right height - mine were set up by a nurse far too low and it took me ages to get anywhere. When I saw the physio she looked horrified and extended them about 6 inches, and I became super whizzy on them after a few days. They're a bugger on stairs though so it's great that you don't need them at home. (This was for a fractured ankle btw, not pg related)

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 27/10/2011 16:33

ghost - so sorry to hear about DH. Will keep fx he's back ASAP.

everyone else - I read what you said and felt appropriate emotions, but am too tired to be specific. My mum came up, helped with housework and took me out and about - I'm fricking shattered and my pelvis is aching again.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 27/10/2011 16:35

Oh - and hello to MrsA - are you an American in England, or vice versa?
Whereabouts are you?

And apologies for glumness - I think we're mostly channelling Eeyore this week, but we're a supportive bunch :)

SlightlyScrambled · 27/10/2011 16:42

Mum2be Good to hear everything is a bit better at home for you

Giraffe I get that feeling often too that the baby will just fall out one day. I've been putting it down to my PGP. Hope that isn't the case for you though.

I had a terrible weekend with the PGP. Was feeling great on Friday and went mental doing housework. Couldn't walk then on Sat, Sun and Monday. Felt like something was badly out of place. Then I got some braxton hicks on Monday evening and it must have popped whatever back into place as overnight I was back to normalish.

I've been banned from housework now by DH and feel so guilty for not doing anything around the place.

Welcome Mrsamerican

skeletonfishbonesandlilacs · 27/10/2011 16:46

Welcome Mrs A It's so nice to be picking up newbies even at this late stage in things. Ignore this miserable bunch Wink:) I'm as happy as larry! (until next week, when it comes crashing down and I realise just how much work I have to do and how little money I have) and until my spinal and rib pain kicks off again but today has been a pain free day. Amazing what a difference a weeks holiday has made.

ghost It was my partner that is responsible for higgs-bosun contractions. Apparently I have a large hadron collider instead of womb! I didn't mean too much detail in the roll call, just the basics, but I didn't mean to be intrusive-just getting to know folks better. I understand.

shonno welcome to the crutches club. May I recommend you get a couple of offcuts of pipe insulation (that spongey grey stuff) and gaffa tape it to the handles. It's hard on the hands I find. How did it go with dd at the dr?

cakes good on your Mum for helping out-mine came up tuesday and made my house messier!

ghosteditor · 27/10/2011 16:50

Grin we were much amused by the Higgs Boson contractions in our household and that's what we call them now. Must remember not to call them that to the MW though...

skeletonfishbonesandlilacs · 27/10/2011 16:56

:)

Fryn · 27/10/2011 16:58

ghost bummer about your DH. I hope he's back soon

shonno boo to the crutches, but yay to your new mat leave date!

scrambled - heavens don't feel guilty about not doing any house work - relish it!

MrsAmerican - welcome! I'm quite chirpy too, so it's not all doom and gloom!

fish I still think your DH was onto something - some days it really does feel like a hadron collider!

all fine here - G2 being very quiet. Will press the alarm button later if I don't get a good hoofing later - it's possible my co-codamol is making him/her sleepy too. God knows I could do with a nap on my desk just about now. Although that could equally be due to DD's night time ambling now she's in her big girl bed. Who's stupid idea was that?!? Sigh.

mrsamerican · 27/10/2011 17:01

ghost, parsley, makescake and skeleton - I'm not afraid of gloominess in the least! As for the Higgs-Boson contractions, I'll have to tell my hubs that, as he is a physicist!

Yes, I'm an American, married to a handsome Brit and living in sunny (well, not today) Dorset.

I don't have anything but maternity leave at the moment, as we moved here a few months ago for hubs' work. I was doing temp work until the HG rendered me unable move off the sofa till 20 wks. Now, it's darn near impossible to even get an interview once people know I'm pg. Pregnant and unemployed (and b/c I'm American, unable to get any maternity benefits), now how's that for glum?

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 27/10/2011 17:29

Mrs A - HG?
Is your DH's salary enough to live on? I'm in a similar-ish situation (self-employed) and things are pretty tight. Money worries can be the most glumifying thing, so I hope you're OK. Do you at least have good self-amusement strategies?

Also I'm not generally gloomy, it's just that this is my steam-vent release for the bad stuff so I can keep being cheerful in person... esp when I have a weekend with the in-laws ahead of me... especially after last week's drama!

Ghost - yes, it's a standing joke in our household too - with DH an engineer/physicist it really tickles him.

skeletonfishbonesandlilacs · 27/10/2011 17:31

Ah miss american I too and in a simialr position-got booted off my old job the day i announced my pregnancy, the two things were not totally unrelated-the gits, but as I was on a temporary self employed contract basis I dont have a leg to stand on to argue the toss over it. I too am not entitled to f'all in terms on benefits. I am employed for the next 5 weeks on some freelance tutoring roles I picked up but once thats done, its over.

addictediam · 27/10/2011 17:36

Hello all. Some days I really love dd, she just slept for 3.5 hours! meaning I've also slept for almost 3 hours and am feeling great! Well great enough to sit on the floor and play with dd, not great enough to finish her room or do the never ending washing or house work :(

Mrsamerica welcome!

My brain isn't functioning properly, so sorry to everyone who I'm negelecting.

addictediam · 27/10/2011 17:44

Fish dont you get smp? Paid at approx £500pm? (£125pw, but its gone up since I had dd) if your se you get the full amount regardless of how much you earn?

mrsamerican · 27/10/2011 17:49

MakesCake (by the way, I love your nickname) - hyperemesis gravidarum is HG - horrible all-the-bloody-time sickness. I only just gained a kg at my 24 wk appt, I was so sick for so long! I've only been sick a few times since 20 weeks though, and my appetite is back with a vengeance.

Luckily DH's salary is fine for us, and we have some savings, which will cover us for a bit after baby comes. It's worrying since we've got diapers and formula and such to buy, but we know how to cut back in a pinch where we need to.

My current self-amusement strategy is knitting, which, even with a master's degree, I find really puzzling. I also sew a lot, and I've made several cute things for baby's room (which is also our guest room).

skeleton I hear you. There's so little in the way of benefit for mums who are temporary workers, which is a shame in this economic climate. Especially with agency work, they won't even put me forward for temp work, since there's almost no chance it would lead to permanent work.

skeletonfishbonesandlilacs · 27/10/2011 17:58

addicted As far as I know all i'm allowed is maternity allowance-I am rubbish at knowing these things. I could really use some advice but as yet I have not been able to find out.

I really don't think you get SMP if you're self employed though.

addictediam · 27/10/2011 18:10

Maybe its not called smp...but its definatly around £125pw as long as ni class 2 is upto date (its the only reason I haven't closed my business! I was about to when I found out I was upduffed, dh said well you may as well keep going and claim maternity! (i earn so little were actually better off when I'm on mat [hblush])

Other benifits depends on what level of ni your paying if class 2 then nothing [hsad] but if class 3 a lot more.

skeletonfishbonesandlilacs · 27/10/2011 18:11

matenriy allowance_ i thought that was only £30 pwTBH i'm not sure if I have earned the £30 a week required in my qualifying period. I need to work it out.

addictediam · 27/10/2011 18:18

Nope, I am very pleased to tell you you are wrong!

its 90% of your weekly earnings up to £125pw UNLESS you are self employed.

If you are self employed, you get the full whack. You don't need to prove any income, you just have to be registered se for (i can't remember how many weeks)

addictediam · 27/10/2011 18:21

Sorry and you don't need to have earnt 30pw either

(i know this for fact because i earnt, if i was lucky £25 a month, now I'm earning nothing but as im still registered se and pay ni I qualify!)

addictediam · 27/10/2011 18:24

(it helps my dh is an accountant and very hot on who can claim what having sat the exam whilst I was pg with dd!)
