OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Wormshuffler · 21/10/2011 06:45

Morning Ladies, hope I find you well on this blustery morning......

Oiesha I signed up about 3 weeks ago when the lovely ladies on here said about the free bag, and yesterday I got my first email from them. It said if you havn't had your welcome pack don't worry it's on it way.

Oh fish you poor thing, your discomfort sounds awful :( could they not give you anymore pain meds? It's not humane to have to suffer like this...

Hugs for today giraffe xxxx

So I had my 28 week appointment yesterday with my lovely community midwife. She is the same lady I had a complete meltdown on whilst I had my miscarriage, getting on for a year ago [gulp] and was my community midwife when I had the DC's 12 and 10 years ago.
I am measuring 30 weeks bump wise, just slightly below the 90th centile. Not sure what that's all about! the DC's were both 7lb and 7lb8 so not big by any stretch! In typically tactful style DH asked if it was because I was eating too much!! cheeky sod!
A weekend of painting my hallway awaits and choosing rugs and runners.......

Morning All

Shonnomanom 5 and a half weeks! :( that really sucks! But think of all the lovely time you will have off when your LO arrives :). It'l be well worth it!

Fish Hope today is a better day for you! :)

Oeisha Didn't know about the boots club, have just signed up though :o ... Is there any other freebies I might be missing out on?!

So here I am again waiting for this plasterer to turn up, after not even bothering yesterday, he's late, that's if he even turns up. Knew I shouldn't have got out of bed!

addictediam · 21/10/2011 08:49

Giraffe just coming on to say thinking of you today, I hope its not too bad xx

Right off to finish catching up.

ghosteditor · 21/10/2011 09:32

best wishes for today, giraffe. Look after yourself.

The boots parenting club - I think the small print says it'll take 4 weeks for the pack to arrive, and mine took about that long, so I wouldn't worry too much. I looked around at a few other places but it looked to me like they were just there so that they could spam you with advertising; not really what you want! It is worth checking if your council provides a subsidy/free samples if you are considering using reusable nappies, though.

My 28 week appt later today - am quite keen to see the MW to talk through the recent hospital visit and hopefully get my strep B results.

Is anyone else suddenly much more uncomfortable and awkward since reaching the 3rd trimester or thereabouts? I find myself really fidgety and stiff even just lying on the sofa. I'm introducing SIL to Grey's Anatomy (she's never seen it) so we have 6 seasons of DVDs to get through (we're part way through season 3 in the 3rd week of her stay - lots of DVD watching Grin)

skeletonfishbonesandlilacs · 21/10/2011 09:41

giraffe thinking of you today xx

I rang boots about mine because I hadn't got it-they said they would send again but still not had it. maybe there is an issue.

Pain is better this morning, went to bed with hot water bottle on rib last night-just gotta take it slow. I'll see how it is today after a day of taking it easy mind you my version of easy today is: I have a scan this morning and work this aft and quite a lot of driving. I also have a friends baby shower tonight which is miles away. I simply cannot do all the things i'm trying to do. I really want to go to the baby shower but i'm not sure if I can.

I have posted a thread in chat today because I have had a very embarrasing morning. you might want to read it to amuse yourselves www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1325853-Mortified-school-social-faux-pas-of-the-year

Oeisha · 21/10/2011 09:42

Best wishes from us too giraffe

It was the email from Boots that reminded me I've not yet got the pack...wondered if they'd made it an email and I'd missed it in my 'junk'...

I'm certainly uncomfy ghost, but def. won't be watching Grey's Anatomy...can't stand it Confused. BUT! I still have 4 series of e.r. to go, so may be similarly indulging once on mat. leave.

Back to work today, so we shall see how my noggin is. No flashy lights at the moment and if the stress of a driving lesson doesn't bring them back, I should be ok...

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 21/10/2011 09:43

Oeisha - mine took about 2 months to arrive IIRC.

giraffe - thinking of you today

kitty - have you tried porridge, perhaps with cinnamon and a banana to cheer it up a bit?

ghost - want to borrow my boxset of WestWing when you're done with Grey's Anatomy? I also have (guilty secret) Gilmore Girls, As Time Goes By, Gavin and Stacey, Coupling and Outnumbered - we're big dvd fans in this house.

I have been using cleaning as a displacement activity, but have nearly run out of things to clean without changing all the sheets which a) will hurt too much and b) have nowhere to dry them, esp as have just put a load of towels in to wash.

Sometimes I really wish I had somewhere else to go than my house.

ParsleyLion1 · 21/10/2011 09:58

Hope all goes OK today giraffe. Thinking of you.

shonnomanom · 21/10/2011 10:54

Thinking of you and your family today giraffe

What are you all talking about with the Boots pack? I got the the Boots voucher for the change bag in the Bounty pack I was handed at the 12w scan. I took that into Boots, got a pack of nappies and got the bag there and then.
Am I missing the boat on some freebies here ?

Going over to my sis for some bump comparisons this afternoon. I think my days of having a bigger bump than her are numbered now that she's 26/39 . Not that I'm complaining, the back pain/pgp is bad enough with 1 panda in there never mind 2

Hope everyone is well and has a pleasant day x

Spagbolagain · 21/10/2011 11:09

Thinking of you giraffe

I too am suffering with uncomfortableness and fidgets. Like all the muscles in my legs need to be tensed, almost itchy-like and restless, and slightly crampy. Most annoying. Also rib pain when lying down. There is also a very poky baby-part (foot?) permanently sticking out to the right which feels slightly icky.

Need to have a propeer think about what we do with DS if baby arrives quickly (my mum is 2hrs away). It's fine if it's a nurserey day, but if not or it's after-hours I need a plan b.....

shonnomanom · 21/10/2011 11:13

Oh fish !!! [hgrin] [hgrin]

Fryn · 21/10/2011 11:18

Morning all,

Still off work, just as I really need to be there to sort stuff out after the book fair. Oh well, as my old manager used to say "they're only f*cking books" - a mantra that's stuck with me over the years!

ghost was thinking of you after the Libya news - any chance your DH might come home early? Fingers crossed!

oiesha - love the puffa fish idea - althoug not sure I'm creative enough to pull it off.

fish - ouch. Do try to take it easy!

kitty sorry to hear about your GD. What a pain - hope you manage to sort out your early morning issues (as Cakes suggests, porridge might be a good one - and nice and warming on these chilly days.)

cakes I love Outnumbered - although I fear it might be a glimpse into my future (if only our house was that big!)

scrambled - have you learnt Finnish? If so, respect! I've been doing work trips to Finland for years, and I can still only say kiitos. It's a completely impenetrable language, as far as I can see!

giraffe - thinking about you today.

ghosteditor · 21/10/2011 11:50

Fryn, I know what you mean, this week has actually been worse than last, as I'm way more tired and hate having work piled up around me. Just finished my follow up and am now dealing with all the (many) emails I'm getting back. Plus have contracts and translated books piling up around me from the last two weeks. I'm a bit neurotic about having a clear inbox and intray so am finding it v stressful! And yes on the Libya front - not sure if he'll get to come home early (he can't really talk about the war on the phone etc) but am seriously hoping he won't have to go back in two weeks and will hence be able to come to the NCT class we've finally ended up on. Hope you're doing ok?

spag the late night walks around the block started several weeks ago for me - seems to be the only way I can get rid of the fidgets before going to bed, especially since I'm not getting my usual amount of exercise. I think this is one thing that will get worse before it gets better!

cakes I figured you for a DVD junkie too! I always heard great things about West Wing so I may want to give it a go during mat leave. I have a much more mortifying list of DVD guilty pleasures than you - and I'm not that taken with Gilmore Girls but for some reason DH is quite fond Wink

Anyone want to take bets on my blood pressure today? It's been high for every appt except the one with the GP, where it was high at first and normal at the end. Am feeling pretty stressed atm and have the signature stressy eyelid so it's probably gone up a bit...

ParsleyLion1 · 21/10/2011 11:56

Hmm Ghost when I went to A&E with my panicky "please check my blood pressure" I had the stressy eyelid flutters. Mine was 155/83 then (back down to 125/70 now) so I'll guess that...

Oeisha · 21/10/2011 12:07

OOOH! The West Wing! Still love it. Still makes me sob like a baby on THOSE eps. You know the ones I mean...and I'm not that much of a sobber with films and telly and the likes.

I can offer Futurama, Babylon 5, Millenium, err, errr, American Dad, the Ghibli collection (and lots of other anime), most of the X-Files, and Family Guy (which I'm not so fond of) for loan...

Alas, the headache is back, though not too many visual disturbances (though I KEPT missing stuff on the right, so roundabouts were a little Hmm, but didn't want to stop my lesson so didn't make too much of a fuss about it - which suggests to me a mild, but refractory migraine - ARSE). Lets hope there's not much knife-weilding at work today. Going to MIL/FIL's for dinner tonight, so here's hoping it eases. I don't want to take codeine...please don't make me head...

The only things I got at booking were "Emma's Diary" (don't remember a boots thing being in there) and the Purple book of joy...and some leaflets about smoking/drinking cessation and my baby-audit-file. Threw most of them away (though did have a look through Emma's diary, but don't remember anything overtly useful, just stuff about registering with Argos.)

ghost I hate twitchy eye...though my signs of pushing it too far are migraine, sickness (brings back ms), exhaustion, and nosebleeds...which I often get with migraines anyway. Amazed I didn't bleed yesterday, but I didn't (at that point I usually slow down). Hey-ho!

Managed to claim some money back for Bo-Bar's dental...not bad really. Taking into account most insurers won't pay out for dentals...I think this is going to turn into an ongoing health issue with both boys, so, well, yay for PetPlan!

I suppose I'd better slap some face on, get an apron (for work) and then have some lunch.

The little butt-monkey! Gizzard's decided I'm not paying him enough attention, so he's batting stuff off the table on to the floor...and then LOOKING at me, then batting something else...[hgrin]

Wormshuffler · 21/10/2011 12:15

Hello again
I just thought I would share this link that the midwife gave me about breastfeeding.
It is a series of videos that follow 4 ladies as they prepare for and then breastfeed. Really good! The videos are listed down the left hand side.

ghosteditor · 21/10/2011 12:40

Ok: this has to be a contender for fail of the day: I just STABBED MYSELF IN THE BELLY with a Stanley knife. Genius. Was opening a box of damn books, which was sealed against nuclear winter, in haste before my MW appt. Pulled the knife towards me (doh) and it cut right through the box before slicing my stomach just a tiny bit. What's worse is that this isn't the first time it has happened! just the tiniest little cut but just goes to show that I'm not thinking straight and that I really need to chill out a bit...

ghosteditor · 21/10/2011 12:41

Poor little pamplemousse... Wink

trubble · 21/10/2011 12:43

Woo hooo - new fridge freezer has arrived and carpet has been fitted - maybe things can start getting organised around here - ok that ma be wishful thinking but......

ghosteditor · 21/10/2011 13:25

well, just had my 28 week MW check up - all looks good except that I'm now suddenly measuring 30 weeks (I knew I'd popped a bit!). Nothing to worry about though.

The MW had a lovely student MW whom she was mentoring, so the student was supposed to conduct the appointment. She did really well for her second day on the job! She measured my BP at 102/60 which I don't believe for a second (main MW double checked and said she got a somewhat higher but still ok reading). Apparently whatever I was swabbed for was not Strep B but there's not a problem with whatever it was in any case. And I've had a slightly high white blood count but again, within ok limits.

I really wish the MW had more time - I always feel like I'm being rushed, and they don't cut me off or anything but they also don't really engage with what I'm saying. I don't know what I'm expecting, but when they asked me about how I was I told them I was feeling stressed and why I was sort of expecting a bit of sympathy or a bit of encouragement to be a bit more selfish - but there was nothing!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 21/10/2011 13:43

Aww ghost - sorry you felt a bit :( about your appt. I do understand what you mean, but have to say that they are absolutely fab at Wallingford. I had a dizzy spell at the physio's yesterday and she made me go to see the MW (down the corridor) and they managed to set me up with an immediate appt with my MW who was able to tell me my blood pressure was normal, but high 'for you' without looking at my notes!!! Makes a bloody big change from the fucking awful health care we got in Coventry. I never want to move.

Right. I have managed as much of today as I can managed without a break so I'm going for a nap. Oh shit - was hoping to get to bed before I started crying again, but too late. Anyone got a hankie? I brought my own chocolate...

Nanny01 · 21/10/2011 13:51

Sorry to hear some of you are having a hard time. I overslept this morning and dds1 missed his bus so had to take him. Still made it it in time for dd2's assembly though. Just as a thought it's half term for those of us who have school age dc's so I am looking forward to less early mornings well at least I have a few more weeks before Elliot comes along.

On a positve note no ill effects from the flu jab yet so fingers crossed.

Brownwolf · 21/10/2011 14:31

Hi Everyone, hope those of you who not been feeling so good are feeling bit better today

I just found out I was aneamic today, but only found out because the pharmacy delivered a presription of iron tablets to my house! Surely someone should have contacted me to let me know the results of my blood tests?!

I am glad to have a reason for feeling so rubbish to be honest, I have been so wiped out and struggling with even basic things, thought I was having a flare up of my Chronic Fatigue, which has been really under control this past year.

Has anyone else taken iron tablets, is it likely they will make me constipated? I suffered with this really badly in the 1st trimester and not sure I can face going through it again.

Also when is everyone going on Maternity leave? I was planning to go at 36 weeks, but really feeling that I want to go sooner, as I am already feeling like I have had enough, I am 29 weeks tom, and intend to stay til at least 32, But am feeling alot of outside pressure, well and internal aswell to work as long as I can, and people keep relating to me how they worked up to the very end. I am lucky to be in a positon where although we will be stretched financially I could still manage take a year off even if I go on my leave early. The trouble is I feel judged, like I am not trying hard enough or something, not even sure if this is coming from others or myself, eek, sorry for moaning, any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Hope you all have a good day x

Karmanna · 21/10/2011 14:57

Brownwolf, if you need iron supplement but don't want the constipation then I'd recommned Floradix. It tastes fowl but it does work!

I've got 5 weeks left at work after today and I can't wait!!! So much to do before then though! :(

Hope everyone is doing ok today!!

Brownwolf · 21/10/2011 15:03

Thanks Karmanna, will give it a try, have heard good things about it before but didn't know if I could take it when pregnant.

Roll on those five weeks!
