Morning ladies, hugs to cheep, hope the LO is staying put for a few more weeks. And hugs to all those feeling down/miserable/sore/tired...
The Parentcraft class was good again last night. We were shown a really good breast feeding video. And the other discussions were good too.
I asked about raspbery leaf tea, and the MW said "Why would you want to drink that? Unless you wanted diarrhoea? All it does is soften your bowels." Which then went on to a discussion about encouraging labour, where they said that pineapples, speed bumps and curries are useless, and that the only thing that worked was sperm on the cervix - so have lots of nookie. (Is that how you spell nookie? She didn't actually say nookie, but it's the word that popped into my head just now, and I like it.)
The PIL have invited themselves over for tea on Friday. And have said that they'll stay over... They only live 20 miles away. I'd rather give them £50 for a taxi. But of course I can't say that/do that. Instead I'll tidy the spare room, change the bedding, etc etc.. I'm not good on Friday nights, I'm usually tired and restless, and go to bed early. Bollox to it, I'll get a M&S meal deal or something. I'm not giving myself the stress of preparing/cooking something.
We had a durty McD's on the way home from parentcraft last night. I went wild and had a legend chicken rather than the trusty Big Mac. Only to regret it - tasteless cardboard. I had to drown it in the ultimately durty but delicious plastic barbeque sauce. so wrong.

OiMissus · 26/10/2011 08:15

...oh yes, and squeeeeeeze.

msbuggywinkle · 26/10/2011 09:00

cheep hope you're ok this morning and that baby stays put for a bit longer.

I am taking raspberry tea, but only because my friend gave me her spare. Not sure I'd have bothered otherwise, although I took it for the DDs and wonder if it did make any difference!

Am not doing much today, DD1 is grumpy and full of cold, DD2 is just grumpy I assume the cold will follow soon! Main plan for the day is to start knitting the play food for the DDs Christmas present.

plupervert · 26/10/2011 09:12

Hmmm, had my first raspberry leaf tea yesterday, and the little creature was very quiet overnight.... On the other hand, she had been up all day, kicking persistently at a spot northwest of my tummy button, so perhaps she was (a) tired and (b) convinced that her exit is the same as the inlet from me.

OiMissus, that sounds just the right response to self-invited guests. You'd feel bad if you moaned and huffed, but you'd also feel resentful if they didn't realise that they were imposing.

kri5ty · 26/10/2011 09:21

I have been having raspberry leaf tea, it may not work. But for a couple of squids I will give it a go!

Hope everyone is feeling a bit better today.

May give my birth plan a go today, and finish packing my bag... all the stuff is there, just ON my bag rather than IN it lol

Had flu jab finally, my arm is fine but have had a really bad headache since!

Cheeptrickortreat · 26/10/2011 09:22

Morning Everyone

I only got an hours sleep last night, i was so uncomfortable and in pain Sad

I think the baby has disenaged but moved right in to my left hip as its so painful and painkillers dont touch it. I'm going to take it easy today and see the MW at 2pm to see whats going on.

Hope everyone has a good day Smile

plupervert · 26/10/2011 09:37

Oh, cheep, that's hard - on both you and the baby! Our bodies are the ones to blame, really, aren't they? Bloody bodies....

Good luck with shifting things!

HoneyLovesCake · 26/10/2011 09:37

Morning ladies! HV coming to visit at 11:30 so I'm about to start cleaning so she doesn't report me to SS for living in a filthy hovel [hgrin] Actually it's not too bad as long as you avoid looking at the rooms being decorated so I should be done fairly quickly.

cheep I hope everything is ok; no contractions or anything...think I read on here somewhere that a MW said it's not uncommon to get a little leak when head engages but that doesn't mean you're going to go into labour. Anyway, I'm crossing my fingers for you [hsmile]

Oi hadn't heard that about raspberry leaf tea & it's certainly not had that effect on me. No idea if it'll help but my MW swears by it; if it's taken regularly & long enough before birth (as it takes a while to build up in your system). Hard to say whether it helps or not I guess but I think if it doesn't loosen your bowels it makes sense to drink it; it won't hurt you & there are plenty of positive reviews.

Wrote most of my birth plan last night; still got loads of stuff to buy but I'm not stressing...DP says if we haven't got things by the time I go into labour I can send him out with a long list [hhmm] I'm more worried about xmas & DP's bday at end of Nov to be honest; hoping to get some shopping in while I'm in London.

fusam · 26/10/2011 09:53

cheep hope you feel better soon, it sounds like a PTA.

Oi ummmm I want McDs now....

Is anyone getting regular Braxton Hicks? Mine seem to be pretty constant over the last two days pretty strong but not really painful just bloody uncomfortable. TMI but they also trigger No 2s, it feels like I have an upset tummy. I am only nearly 31 wks so I am terrified of anything happening at this stage. I am off this week and had loads of plans to spend quality time with DD but I am just mooching around the house feeling sorry for myself.

plupervert · 26/10/2011 10:00

Even if the raspberry leaf tea only loosens the bowels, why not do that anyway? Constipation is painful and why would be want to be bunged up with that as well as with a baby, when going into labour?! Confused. Think of my house's giant drain-enema yesterday, and go for it! Grin

DS was throwing up this morning, so when I got him downstairs, I tried him on some cooled, sweetened camomile tea (which I loathe, but DH and the ILs swear by it, so I thought I would swallow my prejudices, be "good" and try it), and he immediately threw up again! Bastard stuff; I knew it was foul, and now feel sorry I didn't listen to my own instincts about how vile it is. Sad Anyway, we had a bit of bread fresh from the breadmaker, and water, and he seems happy enough now.

plupervert · 26/10/2011 10:01

Ohhh, fusam, I can see how you might not want extra unbunging, so please ignore my cross-post about the constipation!

OiMissus · 26/10/2011 10:09

hmmm... wasn't sure what to think aboutr raspberry leaf tea... then I read this which sounds like a fairly balanced article. It mentions its best to avoid if you have fibroids. I've got 3 (found at my first scan and no problem). So I may give it a miss. Although my sister and mum both had very long 2nd stages in their labours... :(

OiMissus · 26/10/2011 10:18

BTW: No braxton hicks at all for me, as far as I know. I get the odd painful twinge, which causes a sharp intake of breath, but nothing more than that.

hawthers · 26/10/2011 10:26

cheep hope you are feeling ok and little cheep stays where he/she is for a bit longer (btw a consultant i saw last time said she considered term to be 34 weeks as by then all devpt done and its just fattening up - not sure if that is reassuring but hopefully it is?)

little hawthers seems to be doing some stretching sticking its bum out (i think) north east of my tummy button (which is still an inny... for how much longer i'm not sure) but this is accompanied by pressure in my left hip. is this normal? feels like he/she has a shoulder or someting wedged in there and is flexing against my pelvis. not painful more a very odd uncomfortable sensation. anyone had any experience of htis?

mopsytop · 26/10/2011 10:27

I want McDonalds now and it's only half ten! Most of you seem a fair bit further on than me, I will only be 32 weeks at the weekend. So this little one better stay put a while longer. Hope all feeling a bit better today.

msbuggywinkle · 26/10/2011 10:36

I get loads of BHs. Mainly from about 4pm when my body starts to feel tired, lying down sorts them out. DP can feel the difference in bump from morning to evening, it is like a rock.

hawthers sounds similar to what mine does, now she seems to be head down a lot of the time. Feels like the head is bumping and wriggling about on top of my pelvis rather than in it.

LittleMissFlustered · 26/10/2011 10:47

mopsy I'm due the 29th so don't worry, we can keep the thread going together when this lot have buggered off to post-natal:o

Mmmmcheese · 26/10/2011 10:52

I get loads of BH whenever I move which is partly why I am on bedrest! Whenever I have a shower I am rock hard the whole time.

I'm also getting a bum sticking out of my belly and pain in my right hip bone - feels like she is trying to manually stretch my uterus!

I think given my history I don't dare take raspberry leaf tea just in case it makes my irritable uterus worse. Also, I'm not saying it doesn't work as I have no experience of it at all (and I'm into the holistic kind of stuff usually) but I do find it hard to understand how a herbal tea can tone your uterus. Imagine if you could could get a herbal tea that toned your stomach muscles or your
arms! Hopefully all my BH will be toning my uterus!

I'm starting to get a bit fed up of tv now. On Sunday I will have done 4 weeks of bedrest! V glad not to be in hospital though.

hawthers · 26/10/2011 11:00

i'm due on 22nd so will be around for a good while longer too (hopefully)

cheese lordy lord four weeks of bedrest and i think i'd be climbing the walls. it sounds good but i think after about 3 days the novelty totally wears off. how much longer do you have to go? can you switch to a good book or two or a jigsaw puzzle or knitting (trying to think of very sedentiary activities that will hold your attention for more than 2 mins... clearly MN!)

Mmmmcheese · 26/10/2011 11:25

It's better than the 8 weeks in hospital I had last time! I do have some books which I tend to read in the evenings. TV is really the only thing that makes the day go by quickly. It does give me e headache though. When I get to 34 weeks I can potter around the house a bit and see how it goes.

OiMissus · 26/10/2011 11:48

I'm due on the 2nd, but have no intention of leaving this thread! can't we all just stay antenatal til we're all done, and then go "post"?
I suppose we'll have about 10-11 weeks of birth stories between us all. With those in the later weeks getting v impatient!
As for bedrest - no thanks. I hate going to bed. Bed, to me, represents an hour of discomfort before I fall asleep. I dread going to bed. Also, I'm bored of the 20 minute routine - undress, toilet, wash etc, stretch legs, moisturize feet (get v itchy), moisturise elbows, moisturize face, itch cream on tits n bits (sorry), preventative pile cream (sexy), oil on tum, find some clean baggy boxers from DH's drawer, toilet, hypno cd, ....dum de dum de dum... toilet...
No stretch marks yet though. And my belly button is still an inny.
I may be losing the battle with piles though (sorry if TMI). Don't know how or why, but I'm getting itchier and itchier back there. Wriggle, wriggle, don't scratch! [hblush]
Oh, and I have found the answer to work/dress problems. Long socks!
maternity tights bug, itch your belly, and potentially make you too warm causing itchiness. Trousers cut into the bigger belly, and get v uncomfy for a full day in the office. Hold ups get uncomfy for a full day of pinching skin. Over knee socks are the answer! Comfy, cool, and quite funky. - for as long as my knee high boots still zip up!

OiMissus · 26/10/2011 11:48

(another long post - sorry - do you think I'm avoiding work???...!)

figgygal · 26/10/2011 11:58

I am in a lot of discomfort today baby kept me awake a lot last night and now today having lots of BH and pains quite low down in the nethers, i assume its not labour .....better not be am at work!!

Mmmmcheese · 26/10/2011 12:27

One good thing about bedrest is that I can wear baggy t shirts all day and be comfy. Well, despite the backache, headache, hipache and heartburn of course!

OiMissus · 26/10/2011 13:18

Forgot to say, my DH is evidently jealous or impressed with my MN friends, so he's joined dadsnet! It's nowhere near as popular/busy as mumsnet, but he's created some threads and has received responses and advice. :)
