Aww you guys are the best. Yes I have a 90 min commute into waterloo and then to the city - tomorrow I am taking off though as I am exhausted. Will talk through the possibility of early maternity leave with the partners on tues for sure.

A couple of other things I wished I'd had in hospital - a bit like a wish list for a long haul flight! Maybe this is obvious to all you guys but it was my first night ever in hospital so all new to me:

  • a pillow with a proper cover - they couldnt find me a pillow for the first hour and then the cover was like cardboard and crackled in my ear, so very hard to sleep
  • foam or silicon earplugs, eye shade and a little book light to read - it was noisy and the lights came on at random times
  • slippers and/or flip flops - I had to wrestle my boots on to go down the hall to the midwives' station
  • towel(s) - they didn't give me any, no prob as I was only in 24h but any longer and it would have been tough
  • a water bottle with a neck wide enough for ice cubes as it was so bloody hot in there the water was blood temp

Hope work isn't too arsey with your early mat leave request Tyel, glad everything is still where it should be!

fusam, Envy at your lovely weekend in London! Sounds awesome (I miss 'proper' London so much, stupid suburbs).

Good luck at your interview today Bluebells

OiMissus · 24/10/2011 07:52

Morning all, and sque..e...eeze those pelvic floors. (I'm quite good at remembering to remind you, but rubbish at actually doing any.)
Good luck at the interview bluebells.
There were tears in the OiMissus household this morning. Very silly, I know. I had a rubbish night of very little sleep, and then became depressed by this ugly, itchy, spotty rash that's taking over me. [hsad] DH was very lovely and fab and supportive. I just want my body back now. 34 + 4, not long now. But I bet Gingerbaby will come late.
I'm OK really. Monday morning blues.
fusam your weekend in London sounds lovely.

msbuggywinkle · 24/10/2011 07:54

Really glad you're ok tyel have a lovely chilled out day today.

I have good news! The insurance has paid out, and I am getting an iPad! Woo! It has also paid for a gorgeous play kitchen for the DDs for Christmas. I am a happy woman this morning, despite DD2 being up in the night.

Putting into place my plan to flip the baby from today, lots of inversions, going to do some pilates and cries I'm giving up the sofa for the sake of fetal positioning. Still, better all that than her staying breech.

mopsytop · 24/10/2011 08:29

Yay really glad you're ok Tyel! Phew. Take it easy now. Maybe you can arrange to work from home if you don't want to take mat leave too early.

Good luck for job interview bluebells

Hope the rest of you have a nice Monday! Not looking forward to my week. This chapter I am working on is really hard :( Just want to get it finished now though.

Having horrible horrible acid reflux and vomit burps. So uuggghh :( Making sleep hard so feel really tired all the time.

OiMissus · 24/10/2011 09:11

mopsy me too, re: the acid reflux during the night. yuk.
But, on the bright side - must remember the highs:
Highs of the weekend:
Am blonde again. [hgrin]
Everyone said how well I looked at the party, and were very impressed with bump.
Granddad with dementia said how he's looking forward to meeting the baby. "There's nothing nicer than a little baby". And then he said, "Yes, they're all right from about 6 months old". hee hee hee!
My sister was very impressed and touched by the cake we made for her birthday, and also by the one we then bought and decorated after the first one's decorations went a bit hallowe'en. [hblush]

Lows:
Still didn't take a picture of me with bump! That's two nights out, all dressed up with the opportunity - missed.

High-to-be:
Will have to get DH to take me out next week for my birthday and get a photo then.

Cheeptrickortreat · 24/10/2011 09:19

Good luck with job interview today Bluebells Smile

Have a goodday everyone Smile

Earwigwam · 24/10/2011 11:00

Nice to hear you're back home Tyel, I was worried we were about to have the threads first baby a bit earlier than we'd like.

MissBuggy - I have an ipad and it is the fabbest thing ever invented, I can balance it on the sofa arm to catch up on here whilst my DS is on my knee watching a bit of tele. It's become part of my daily routine and just the breather I need before I sort out dinner/bedtime.

I've just got to the end of a busy week with several groups of friends/family coming over to ours (clean once and get to see everyone!) so I'm now thinking I am pregnant enough to not do the hosting, especially when it comes to Xmas.

For those suffering reflux, I have some rennie on my bedside table as they are mild enough to take regularly and do help.

figgygal · 24/10/2011 11:16

I am back from my weekend away had a lovely time chilling out in paignton and torquay tried to eat well but there was a few too many ice cream and fudge stops on the way round the harbours. My hips are now starting to hurt at night when sleeping so last night I was on a doubled over duvet with a pillow between my knees to see if that improves things, its definitely impacting on my sleep but hey at least I can combine the toilet stops with when the pain wakes me up and I have to switch sides in bed. I found I got out of breath very easily for the first time feel horribly unfit (not that I was fit beforehand) but am back in a pre pregnancy top today so cant be all bad.

This will likely be TMI but has anyone got experience of moles changing shape? When swimming Saturday I had a lot of discomfort in the crease of my swimsuit between my thigh and undercarriage (sorry I cant think of a better way to describe the area), I have always had a slight mole but assumed it was a spot or something but when I had a look at it my mole has at least doubled in size and while was usually just a bit of a raised bump it is now quite extended and sore to touch. I wouldn?t mind but trying to keep down there tidy enough to go swimming was bad enough but now having to expose self to Drs before I even have the baby ??..the indignity of it all begins. I have made an appointment for next week with the Dr to get it checked out and am trying to put it down to just being irritated by the extra dampness down there due to extra weight and pregnancy but then have massive panics about worst case scenarios which I am trying to hide from DH as he is a big worrier. Also have 34 wk appointment on Monday so will mention it to the midwife ?..didnt need another reason to lose sleep.

Hope everyone else is well.

OiMissus · 24/10/2011 11:31

figgy re: undercarriage. I do not have any mole specific info, but I am having a nightmare down there. Do not read further if you fear TMI!
First of all, the area is much more fleshy than it used to be. I guess this is a good prep thing.
But, started to experience itchiness in the crease between legs and undercarriage. Decided it must be due to growth of size and growth of unkempt hair. Decided to buy Veet hair removal cream, rather than go get waxed. Took off Veet at 5 minutes as directed, but then experienced a full night of burning hell. I was in agony. (But to help keep the skin apart, I used savlon and the bamboo nappy bits I'd bought for Gingerbaby - don't laugh! - and can thoroughly recommend their wonderful softness and gentleness and they will be great for the baby should it ever get nappy rash!). Now all the skin there is red raw, itchy, spotty. I want to get the spots checked out, but am too embarrassed. Going to use thrush cream for a few days, but may have to resort to seeing someone. Apparently, if it is thrush, it'll need to be sorted before birth... Tis just one indignity/discomfort after another! [hsad]

ThePippy · 24/10/2011 12:40

Hi all. Wow tyel it's been all go for you - and it sounds like the hospital is a yucky as I remember!!

On the subject of undercarriage rashes - I had something like this a couple of months ago (triggered I think by excessive sweating and not being able to keep things dry down there for more that a few minutes regardless of how hot it was or what activity I was doing!!) and was prescribed Daktarin cream (which you can just buy over the counter) which worked a treat and I went from being in burning red raw itchy agony, to sorted in a matter of days. I was told that once it was fixed to use a thin barrier cream like sudocrem to avoid it coming back, and it has been all clear since. Ironically the condition made the sweating worse, which then made the condition worse, so actually getting the rash cleared up has helped with the horrible wetness that was making me feel dirty all the time.

OiMissus · 24/10/2011 12:53

pippy thank you. I'll pick some up!

BeeMyBaby · 24/10/2011 13:27

Earwigwam we had the first thread baby about a month ago, but I agree we don't want a second quite yet (but soon!!)

tyel pleased to see they let you out of hospital - could you go on sick leave at this point for a couple of weeks instead of earting into your mat leave?

Sorelip I'm hoping to have the baby at about 37 weeks, had lots of bladder pressure yesterday and some little lower back pains so I'm very doubtful that I'll last till 40 weeks, and don't think I have the energy to last that long either. I'm planning to finish packing the hospital bag this weekend.

Re acid reflux, I got the midwife, who got the dr, to prescribe me some liquid antiacid, I think its called maalox, its really good and mint flavoured and I just glug it down when required.

Highs

  • DH has agreed to put DD to bed for me from now on as the cot doesn't have a fold down side so its squashes my bump when I try.

Lows -
I have DDs cold and feel sore all over.

aethelfleda · 24/10/2011 14:46

Figgy and oi, trust me, the dr will be totally unfazed to see your ladybits no matter what state they are in. I know it's embarrasing for you but rashes in crevices are totally bread and butter stuff to a GP and you'll feel better knowing its been checked out. It's very common for moles and skin tags to enlarge in pregnancy due to the changes in circulation to the skin, but again getting someone to look at it will put your mind at rest.

Am at home with probably toxic DD2 who woke us up this morning with the sort of cough-puke noises that is the worlds worst alarm clock...she has ignored breakfast and lunch (unheard of!) bit is drinking weak squash soaybe we'll risk a trip to the park later. With a change of clothes in the bag.

OiMissus · 24/10/2011 16:23

Just read through a thread about women in late stages of pregnancy who are impatient to give birth. Poor things. They are 38 - 41+ weeks in and are tearing their hair out.
That'll be us soon.
It's almost us now!

Cheeptrickortreat · 24/10/2011 16:38

I'm 34 weeks today and my son was born at 38 weeks - so only 4 weeks to go Shock

Baby Hope can stay in there a bit longer, at least untill we all get over the flu/cold bug we all have in this house Grin

plupervert · 24/10/2011 17:18

Hi, all,
Sorry people are feeling so uncomfortable. With regard to the start of birth indignities, I had to ask my MW to examine my perineum today, so that was lovely. Have just started the perineal massage -

  • and it was a bit uncomfortable, but not as difficult as I feared. The main problem was - er - lots of hair! I'm not brave enough to try Veet like you, OiMissus!

Thanks for the update, Tyelperion! It's good to hear you have a little while left, to get everyting in order, as you sound like to sort of person who would really stress with an unexpected deadline! Shock I am proud to say that the "tech" section of my so-far-hypothetical bag does indeed have a mobile charger on it, but your reminder of the book light was an excellent one. Now to find an appropriate book...

aethelfleda, I hope DD recovers without giving you whatever it is! Poor cheeptrick, that's tough to be a plague house; hope you all get better soon!

Bluebells, I hope you were satisfied with your interview, whether it results in promotion or not. Please tick it off without regret no matter what - another thing done!

sevensevenseven · 24/10/2011 17:31

Sorry for a me post but I'm having a panic and wondered if anyone can help. I've been out all day and got back to a letter asking for a repeat sample of 30 week bloods, it says for ferratin and folate tests, which means nothing to me! I'm worrying as when I was asked for a repeat blood sample with DS they kept me in hospital and diagnosed pre-eclampsia. MW is off duty and antenatal clinic is now closed. Does anyone know what they actually want to test for? I've started a thread in pregnancy but it doesn't hurt to ask!

Cheeptrickortreat · 24/10/2011 17:35

Can you call the delivery ward and ask a midwife there? The phone number should be on your notes.

Cheeptrickortreat · 24/10/2011 17:36

I hope everything is ok for you xx

sevensevenseven · 24/10/2011 17:41

Thanks cheeptrick. google (I know I shouldn't have!) has informed me it's to do with anaemia, so I'll stop worrying. I'm 40 minutes from the hospital though so I'll ring my MW in the morning and see if she can come and do it herself rather than me going to hospital.

LittleMissFlustered · 24/10/2011 17:55

Evening all! I've spent the day directing the kids in the art of throwing things away mercilessly:D

Hopefully I can tell them why I'm so tired at some point soon, then they'll not object to helping as much as I need them too:)

Going to get my son's room cleared tomorrow, though how I can clear as much space as the rad men will need in a box room I have no idea! Miracle ideas welcome >_< Will all be worth it for central hedging though:)

Right. Onwards. Hope everyone has a lovely evening. Mine is going to contain a large bar of chocolate and a spot of stuff shuffling in my room. If I do well I might let myself open the pram box, have had it about six weeks and have been good so far :)

LittleMissFlustered · 24/10/2011 17:56

Central hedging?!?!

My phone's spell correct rules in weird ways!

ZombiesAteMySorelip · 24/10/2011 18:38

Hi everyone! I had my 34 week appointment this evening, and all is looking well. Baby is still head down, in left occiput anterior position - fingers crossed he stays that way, as I've read that it is the best position for a baby to be in.

I've been getting some periody back pain today, and haven't done much, but it's all good [hsmile]

Bluebells I hope your interview went well today.

LittleMissFlustered central hedging? Sounds like an illegal banking practice [hgrin]

Xiaoxiong · 24/10/2011 18:42

figgy I have loads of experience with moles - go to dermatologist every 6 months as there's a strong family history on both sides of melanoma and moles going wrong. (I've had two dodgy ones removed myself in uncomfortable areas, my dad's had a good dozen off). If you have any mole, anywhere on your body that is changing, then get it checked out by your GP as soon as possible. We had the following mnemonic drummed into us for things to check: Asymmetry, Border, Colour, Diameter, Elevation. There are some pictures here but basically it's whether or not it's changing that is key. A mole doubling in size, particularly if it's now grown bigger than a pencil eraser, is something to get checked out just for peace of mind. Feel free to PM me if you want any more info.

Thanks again for all your words of encouragement - I luckily had thurs & fri booked off on annual leave anyway so probably will take tomorrow and weds off, then next week was to be my last week at work so I will discuss with the partners and HR what best to do as I wouldn't be able to take on any new work anyway. Today I have spent sleeping, gentle walk with DH, and now DH is watching the EU referendum debate and rubbing my feet while I doze on the sofa. Haven't lost any more fluid but movements still so reduced - I guess this is just what it will be like from now on but it is still hard to get used to it. Massive pressure down below and now I know what contractions feel like, I know I'm having them at irregular intervals. Seeing MW tomorrow for 35 week checkup and I guess we'll have lots to talk about!!
