msbuggywinkle · 21/10/2011 07:58

seven how ridiculous of them!

Good morning so far...bought this to wear with leggings and my cowboy boots for the naming ceremony of my friend's baby next weekend...and got 25% off. Didn't want to spend much money as I probably won't wear it much so I'm a happy woman!

Week 32 begins for me today, feeling great again now I'm taking iron. Off to playgroup and for noodles today!

OiMissus · 21/10/2011 08:23

msbuggy Now, I don't take much persuasion to go shopping, but it's not even 9am! I liked the dress, very nice indeed, so then I had to look at what else they had, and was delighted with the prices. So I put 4 pcs in a basket, came to £75, bargain methinks! but not content with that, as DozP is a high street name, there must be a voucher code says I - and yep there is 25% off. That'll do nicely says I. [hgrin]

fusam · 21/10/2011 08:25

msbuggywinkle lovely dress!

seven how in the world can they demand that much money in a short time. Can you see the CAB for advice?

figgygal · 21/10/2011 09:08

33 weeks today off to Devon for the weekend as last taste of freedom before little fella arrives. I will have to remember to take it easy i still forget sometimes I'm 2 stone up and have a baby on board Grin

msbuggywinkle · 21/10/2011 09:13

I think most of my maternity stuff is from DP, it has been fine through all 3 pregnancies so I am pretty impressed. My favourite maternity top is from there, when I was pregnant with DD1, and the earliness of shopping was because when they have 25% off stuff goes bloody fast!

HoneyLovesCake · 21/10/2011 09:18

Morning ladies; very impressed by all the shopping going on at this hour [hgrin] Sorry to here the council's being do crap seven, surely this is what you pay your service charge for? I agree you should check with the CAB, I'd expect for such a large sum they at least have to allow you to pay it in instalments.

msbuggy never heard of a naming ceremony before, is it like a christening for non-religious types?

I had an annoying call from the Health Visitor yesterday; I wasn't aware I'd have any contact with them at all until LO was born but apparently she needs to see me to explain what they do. [hconfused] Sooo don't have time for this. She'll come to the house but is insisting on seeing me before 36 wks [hangry] (It's wk 34 today:)) & apparently it'll take at least an hour. Don't want to be difficult but the next 2 weeks will be really busy for me. Can anyone tell me what to expect from this visit? Is it a big deal if I cancel & refuse to see her until after wk 36?

Xiaoxiong · 21/10/2011 09:22

Morning all, working from home today as I have a large report to write and if I'm at home I won't get interrupted like I do in the office. The day's rest from commuting doesn't hurt either!!

34 weeks today and I woke up with my bump a completely different shape! The whole pregnancy it's been really high, hard and all out in front. The last day or two the babe's been really quiet, to the extent that DH was ready to take me to get it checked out today if nothing improved - but then this morning I wake up and the bump is much flatter and softer and my waist has disappeared - maybe it's moved down into my pelvis, I can't really tell!

OP posts:
mopsytop · 21/10/2011 09:24

Has your baby been moving Tyel? Maybe you should give your midwife a ring if not?

mopsytop · 21/10/2011 09:25

Oops sorry that wasn't to freak you out! But I am sure she'll know about bumps changing shape etc.

working from home today too. Must turn off internet ... !

Xiaoxiong · 21/10/2011 09:51

No it's ok, I've been counting kicks this morning and it's been more active than it has in days. Definitely hiccups as well, and I'm now pretty sure it has moved down into my pelvis a bit because there's now a lot of pressure down there when I lean forward or from side to side. We'll see how we go - the boys go home for leave after lunch, so DH will be back and we can reassess then.

In other news, I ordered an epi-no and it arrived this morning - 10cm looks flipping enormous!! It does say not to start using it until three weeks before your EDD - but my MW said perineal massage can be done any time, so I will ask about it when I go for my 35 week appointment next week.

jiggle when is your growth scan? I think my bump has probably lost 5cm overnight so it seems really dependent on the way the baby is lying.

Tyelperion - glad baby kicking today, it sounds like baby has droped/engaged Smile

Seven - that is so not on. What happens if you refuse to pay? Does it need to be done now?

MsBuggy - Thats a nice dress Smile

I hope everyone has a good day today and a good weekend.

Envy of you going to Devon - i love it down there i hope you have a lovly time together before baby comes (dont forget to take your notes with you just in case)

My lows today are:
Was up half the night being sick and fighting son for the toilet as we both have a cold and was coughing a lot and being sick cos of it.
Had to cancell the cleaners as house is a tip and didn't want to pass sickness on.
Son can't go to nursary as he is ill
DH has taken a days holiday off work to look after us both
I have to wait til November to buy pushchair and mosses basket for new baby but i really want to get it now.
I'm ill, feel sick and have lost my voice

Highs:
DH is home and looking after us both
We had a nice costa breakfast today
He went out at 8am to get me more painkillers and give me a hug
Last night as i was being sick DH was rubbing my back and even tho son was ill too he copied his dad to try to make me feel better as i cry when i'm sick so son got a kindness star for our family stary night kindness chart Smile
Son is sleeping in his room with DH - DH is doing the bedtime routine and getting son to sleep on his own (after 2 and half years of son only wanting me) which is great for when Baby Hope is here
I'm going to buy swaddle robes for baby Hope today for my hospital bag
I have baby nappies, i have put waterproof sheets on my bed and in the car, i have put a pack of maternity pads in the bathroom for if my waters go and i have washed baby clothes.
Washing machine was fixed yeasterday so i can get on with getting all the clothes and storage space sorted out.

Cheeptrickortreat · 21/10/2011 11:21

Um also on the lows:
I'm on a high dose of anti-depressents and with the hormones at the mo they are not working so good and i'm getting moody alot right now.
The closer the dur date is getting the more scared i feel of having PND like i did with my first and i'm scared it will be a repeat of that and i dont want it to be.

Lots of people are involved and there are plans in place and i know what to look out for this time and what to expect with a newborn but as its a MH issue and i can't "see" it, there is always that dount that i will snap/flip/go nuts and it scares the hell out of me Sad

OiMissus · 21/10/2011 12:41

Lows: Bloody uncomfy today - if anything my baby seems to have moved up! If I even slightly bend forward, it hurts!

Highs:
I'm buggering off home early to do something useful! I think I'll do some baby clothes and bed linen washing and putting away. :) and some nappy and stuff sorting. Til now it's all been in bags in the spare room, but the Tall Boy is built and ready. :)
Also got to decorate the cake we baked last night for sis's 40th party tomorrow. Wish me luck!!!

have a great weekend everyone. [hgrin]

mopsytop · 21/10/2011 13:04

Highs - working at home so don't have to brave the cold/wet.
Making pancakes for lunch - yum!

Lows - really bad pain in right side, like a bad ovulation pain. Think is ligaments stretching.
I am working work very intellectually challenging today :(

plupervert · 21/10/2011 13:51

Hi, all.

May I ask what the significance of waiting to cut the cord is?

With regard to syntocin/oxytocin injections, one thing our antenatal midwife the first time suggested was that if the delivery has occurred after visiting hours on the maternity ward, it would be better to leave the placenta to come out in its own sweet time, otherwise the father will be booted out sooner (rather than being able to come up to the ward and spend more time with mum and baby). However, if it looked like discharge from hospital would be that day, would be soon, a quick delivery of the placenta could speed things up even more (though discharge takes an age).

Sorry to hear about all the crap OHs. DH has also been distant (work issues), and seemed cross to hear that I was upset with DS for being a screaming PITA, though he (DH) was a bit more understanding when I reminded him that I was probably hormonal as well as pissed off with DS, life and where we are living. Unfortunately, DS has not been understanding, and nor, I have to say, am I of him, so the relationships in this house aren't very happy at the moment.

33 weeks today, which on past form means there could be as little as 5 weeks left till D-day Shock. With DS's stupid positioning last time, which meant he came out in a big rush, and with my hope that that won't happen again, I feel as though I am actually going into labour as a first-timer, and am a bit scared. No birth plan yet, but I see the midwife on Monday, and will talk a few things through then.

mopsytop · 21/10/2011 14:03

plu apparently while it is still pulsating it is still passing nutrients to your baby, so it could be getting some goodness from it still.

mopsytop · 21/10/2011 14:05

oh and oxygen

mopsytop · 21/10/2011 14:10

Or hang on, is that clamping the cord? I am confused now! If they clamp it, I presume the baby isn't getting that extra stuff... does anyone have a clearer idea than me?

msbuggywinkle · 21/10/2011 14:39

Yep, about 1/3 of the baby's blood volume is still in the cord and placenta at birth, immediate clamping stops this getting to the baby and cuts off am additional oxygen supply for those who take a few seconds to figure out breathing.

So, babies who are clamped at birth can be sleepier and more prone to jaundice. DD1 was done at birth to be recussitated, but now I insist on them bringing the equipment to me.

mopsytop · 21/10/2011 14:43

It's weird because they say that they clamp it to prevent jaundice, but there is no evidence that it does actually. Just been googling it! I think I will ask them to wait 3 minutes to clamp it instead of one.

HoneyLovesCake · 21/10/2011 14:46

re: cord clamping Studies have shown that delayed cord clamping allows between 20 & 50% of the baby's blood volume to flow into the baby. Early cord-clamping also results in lower hematocrit or hemoglobin values in the newborn (fewer red blood cells) MW's agree that premature babies especially benefit from later cord-clamping. from Ina May's Guide to Chilbirth

I think it's done pretty much as standard these days but it's worth putting in your birth plan just in case :)

HoneyLovesCake · 21/10/2011 14:49

Glad you said that msbuggy since I read about delayed cord-clamping it's never made sense to me that they clamp, cut & whisk baby away to be resuscitated when they're still attached to a perfectly good oxygen supply [hconfused]

mopsytop · 21/10/2011 14:51

Yeah and also, it's only been done since around the 40s at the earliest ... so why the change? I mean, surely we evolved that way for a reason? I know most medical advances are a good thing, but sometimes it just seems counter-intuitive. I am defs going to put in my birthplan to wait until it stops pulsing or at leats 3 minutes anyway.

msbuggywinkle · 21/10/2011 14:53

honey just seems like a convenice thing for hospitals really. DD1 needed extensive resuscitation, so I get that they whizzed her away because it is horrible to watch, but babies needing that are a big exception.

plupervert · 21/10/2011 14:54

Thanks very much for the quick and complete replies on cord clamping! I hadn't known an of this, and to be honest, I have no idea what was done the first time, which is a particular shame, as DS was jaundiced, and it would be interesting to check the correlation.

Okay, will add this to my birth plan. (well, will open a file to sit on my desktop alongside the hospital bag file, and will panick-pack both files as and when in comes up!)
