Honey I'm pretty sure I'm going to be wearing that coat all winter until the baby weight goes. Definitely go for it on ebay, it's lovely and classic and much better than the trendy but shitty quality £40 coat from Zara I wore last winter.

Also I can't remember when your due date is but for the sake of argument if it's the same as me (3rd Dec) you could go 2 weeks overdue (17th Dec). Remember what it was like last year on 17 December? Even the world's warmest cardi ain't gonna cut it!

Consider my arm twisted Tyel, good to here it's decent quality, buying on ebay is always risky. I'm due 2nd Dec but wouldn't be at all surprised by a xmas baby [hhmm] DP says with me as a mother they're bound to be awkward & need prising out with a crowbar [hgrin]

How's the sizing? D'you think it could be worn over LO in a sling post birth?

lalababy · 20/10/2011 13:59

BUY BUY BUY
I already bought winter maternity coat when I was heading to moscow! And frankly in about 2 weeks I will be ready to wear it again. I reckon... you probably use it the whole of Dec at least because the baby weight doesn't magically just dissappate the minute you have a baby!

OiMissus · 20/10/2011 14:08

lala how ridiculous! Of course it does. Sssh! Fingers in ears, head in sand, I'm not listening, blah blah BLAH BLAH. Can't hear you.

ThePippy · 20/10/2011 14:14

Afternoon all. Lovely (but cold) day here - will be happy with this weather all the way to the birth!

Another opinion on the injection here - with DD I let the cord to pulse (which seemed to go on for ages much to the surprise of MF who kept checking) then ended up with a retained placenta that had to be manually removed under spinal block - very annoying after a lovely drug free water birth. The midwife at the time told me that letting the cord pulse will have made no difference as they see the same % of people with retained placenta regardless of whether they have the injection or not. Since then other MW's have contradicted this view. However as there does seem to be a school of thought that suggests the injection can reduce the likelihood I will definitely be having the injection straight away this time, especially as all the research I read said that a previous retention increases the likelihood of it happening again.

Xiaoxiong · 20/10/2011 14:18

Honey I don't think it could be buttoned over a baby in a sling (except in the first week or two maybe?) It's cut so that it fits really well around the shoulders/chest and then because of the vent in the back it sort of goes out around the bump. So you do look pregnant rather than like you're just wearing a tent or a cape.

Pre-pregnancy I was at the small end of a size 12 - this coat is a Seraphine size 2 which I think is probably what the ebay seller is calling a size 10.

Thanks girls, honey i think i will call him out next time he says something!

Hmm i need a coat, im due on the 13th... so realistically christmas day haha, it will be freeeezing!!

missbuggy, i was thinking of waiting until the cord had stopped, then having the injection. I have had problems with huge blood loss and mahoosive blood clots before, so for that reason i think i will get it, but i like the idea of waiting first for it o be cut.

and lala i agree with oi lol the weight drops off the second our bundles of joy pop out!! :o

HoneyLovesCake · 20/10/2011 14:25

Thanks Tyel :)

Are all placenta's the same-ish size? Mine seemed huge on my 32wk scan...I'm confident that most of my baby weight is due to an over-sized placenta & once it's out I'll be back in my pre-pregnancy size 8 jeans [hwink] Nothing to do with all the cake I've been eating, oh no...my hips & thighs will also magically slim down as soon as the baby's out [hgrin]

fusam · 20/10/2011 14:44

honey unless you are one of those women that pings back into shape, chances are that you could wear that coat all winter. Oh and breastfeeding made me gain weight. I was wearing my maternity skinny jeans months after DD was born so I expect my wardrobe will consist of the mat trousers at least until summer.

HoneyLovesCake · 20/10/2011 14:55

la la la sticks fingers in ears I can't hear you [hwink] Seriously though, since I put most of my weight on in the first 2 months I think it may take a little while to come off...unless I'm somehow carrying DC1's twin in my enormous behind [hgrin]

jomouse · 20/10/2011 14:59

Hello my fellow waddlers...
We all seem a wee bit happier/healthier this week which is great. My rib dweller is still booting me about and causing crying and face pulling on public transport, which is actually hilarious when I get over the agony - people actively move away as though I'm going to explode in a shower of amniotic fluid.
Reasons to be cheerful -

  • I have 4 working days till mat leave. Yes, my dears, 4 DAYS!
  • I am planning a day of fun with my best mate while I can still get about in London, arty farty cinema showing, followed by tea at the Ritz/Fortnums...bliss
  • My bugaboo has arrived

Pains in the arse

  • Pains in the arse (what IS this???!!!)
  • My bugaboo has arrived (and I can't work it and its MASSIVE)
  • Rib dwelling pain

Hope everyone is good Kri5ty - DP's are rubbish - mine is starting to get worried about money which is making me feel guilty for taking mat leave off (even though I have saved thousends and thousends to make it is painless as possible for us). Feel very guilty. Although I'm sure when he sees how much work a wee one is, I will stop feeling guilty pronto :)

OiMissus · 20/10/2011 15:10

jomouse beware if it's a kind of nerve pain running vertically through your butt cheek - it could be the start of sciatica. But, do not worry, all is not lost, I had it for about 3 days, and was limping at times, and then it disappeared and never came back.
So jealous of your mat leave. 4 weeks, 1 day to go for me.

The weight will come off within 4 weeks. This is my new faith. You can join my religion. It is free. You don't have to give up your worldly goods, nor do you have to kneel at any alters. (Apart from the altars of All Saints and Karen Millen, but that goes without saying.)

You can tell me I'm deluded, and that I am praising a false god, but at least I can stay in bed on a Sunday morning. [hgrin]

jigglebum · 20/10/2011 16:15

Afternoon everyone.
kri5ty - I can sympathise as my DH has a tendency to be like that and tell me off for moaning and has no concept of hormones and the impact they can have on you. We were talking about what it would be like with 2 a while back and as I will obviously be on maternity leave he commented that it would fundamentally be like it was before I went back to work part time. I laughed and said no, as I will have double the number of children to look after and will be getting up to the baby in the night. Not sure it has sunk in yet though!

Re the injection - I had the injection almost straight away to deliver the placenta and glad I did as it was quick and painless and I do have a tendency to bleed a lot. (When I had a mc last december I think I stunned the nurses with quite how much I bled) I also went for the vit K injection - it was over and done with very quickly.

Re bottles - I will be mixed feeding after 6/8 weeks or so probably so DH can give the last bottle before bedtime - ideally expressed milk but struggled with this last time so might be formula at that time. I have Avent bottles and was happy enough with them.

LittleMissFlustered · 20/10/2011 18:21

Checking in. Been a while, been a week! Hope you're all well and that you're slapping those partners with kippers as and when needed. Not having one means no one to slap, though the nobody to hug thing kind of balances it all out.

Anyway, off to make some dinner. So hungry and tired tonight.

msbuggywinkle · 20/10/2011 18:46

honey no, they aren't. DD1's was about the size of a dinner plate, DD2's was about half that. Both perfectly healthy.

Am being pampered now DP is home, off for a bath in a minute

BeeMyBaby · 20/10/2011 18:54

Jigglebum - I have the same thoughts as you, I just want things to be over with so will be having the injection and the DC will be getting the vit K too, especially as my diet isn't great, and I failed to give DD virtually any colostrum last time.

For bottles I used avent and tommy tippee from when DD was 4 months, she took to tommy tippee sooner. I would definitely recommend expressing rather than formula as even starting formula at 5 months, it really hurt my supply.

jigglebum · 20/10/2011 18:55

Forgot say had mw appointment today and it was the second time that I m measuring a bit small for dates so have a growth scan on Tuesday. Hope everything is alright. So everyone telling me I have a small/neat bump was not so far out after all. Anyone know any reasons why I might be smaller. It is not related to high blood pressure as that has been fine consistently. Not feeling too concerned at the moment but suspect I will nearer to the scan!

jigglebum · 20/10/2011 18:56

Would agree wtih bee re supply and expressing as my milk supply did suffer and gradually had to use more bottles.

mopsytop · 20/10/2011 19:14

Hadn't even really thought about placenta injection or vit K. Will prob wait for cord to stop pulsating (midwife at antenatal said they usually do this anyway), then have injection and vit K injection. Not sure though. I hate all the decisions. It seems like everything involves a decision :(

mopsytop · 20/10/2011 20:34

Baby doing MASSIVE kicks in ribs ow ow ow! I like the reassurance but honestly, couldn't it move? My ribs are its favourite location :(

sevensevenseven · 20/10/2011 20:50

Sorry for moaning but it's been a really shit day. We got a letter from the council saying they want to do work on the roof of the block of flats, we have 5 days to find £1000. There's no way we can find that sort of money other than putting it on the credit card.

Also still no sign of my laptop. I phoned earlier and they told me that they have no tracking info and just to wait, so essentially they have no idea where it is.

aethelfleda · 20/10/2011 23:02

seven - 5 days to find £1000????!!! Surely they can't be serious. That's a huge wodge of cash and there's no way they can expect you to just conveniently whip it out of a back pocket...

I am happy happy happy! Our PTA had its handover meeting and I'm no officially a helper rather than one of the people running it. Yay. Now I just need to sit on my hands effectively so I don't get too involved with helping run the Christmas event....

OiMissus · 21/10/2011 07:35

£1000 in 5 days? - That really is ridiculous. What happens when you say, "We can't do that"?
Congratulations aethel - but yep, that's a double-edged sword!
I too have a very lively baby mopsy. And most of the action is up top, I think he sticks his bum out up into my ribs, and then stretches his legs out to my other side, whilst pummelling my hips with his fists. And his name shall be "Starjumper". It is nice, but it's uncomfy, its a relief, but he's especially lively at night. As I'm settling down, he's starting his night out. And the disco starts in the early hours. This morning, I found myself going to the bathroom - not because I needed to pee this time - just to give him a rub and say "Shush now GingerBaby, tis sleeptime!" without waking DH. ???
Week 34 today, :) another milestone, and 4 weeks til maternity leave.

mopsytop · 21/10/2011 07:48

Bloody hell seven, that's ridiculous! Who has a grand lying about?! What happens when you don't have it? Do they not fix the roof?

Baby was doing mega kicks last night in bed. Must be getting bigger and stronger ... it usually isn't as active at night as it was last night. Sleeepppyyy ...
