Yay Cheshire what a beautiful name for your new little mouse Wink welcome poppy arabella - on the whole (with a few exceptions) we are breeding fairly small ones so far hey. Not very many of us in the race for biggest baby!

Welcome cass fingers crossed for home birth

Will post properly in morning just trying to get girls back down...

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 07/10/2011 06:48

Well I'm gutted really thought things were starting last night was in my mums and getting pain every 20 mins or so and mum kept saying she was certain was in labour getting my hopes up when I got home nothing!!
And still nothing this morning.

Congrats on new baby Cheshire lovely name

38+4 today and ready for baby anytime you here that in there

LittlePebble · 07/10/2011 07:26

Congratulations Cheshire love the name Poppy Smile. Hope you are ok looking forward to hearing the birth story.
Oh edward sympathise we thought same last Saturday and it's very disappointing when it doesn't turn into anything.
Nothing from my LO, midwife said it's textbook baby lying in perfect position, 3/5 engaged and heartbeat great, so all I need now is for it to decide to come out!
39+5 today

Mimatchin · 07/10/2011 07:57

Good morning everyone!

Edward I totally understand your disappointment but if you already feel pain at 38+4 it might mean that something will happen soon.

I am 39+5 and did not have any pain or signs of labour just a little drop of milk coming out from my breast which cheered me up this day but nothing like pain... And it is quite annoying when people do guessing: "this will be for this week" or "the baby will come soon because you are very active" whatever...And phone calls and text asking if the baby is here and me saying not yet and that I will let everybody know bla bla bla. Or this "friend" telling how painful it is to give birth...Angry just too remind me (not to forget) that I will certainly suffer a lot in case I did not know.

LittlePebble I think we have same due date and I definitely understand you too.

Cheshire Congratulations!! The name you've chosen is just lovely!

My little baby is moving well, she goes up and down my big bump. She might be a big baby, I would not mind as soon as she pass the birth canal smoothly..Lets see :)

mpops · 07/10/2011 14:22

Hello! Doing this in my phone and not feeling very dainty at the moment, so haven't read the thread: congratulations to all new mummies!

We had our little girl Dorothea on 5 October. Woo! She's really great, weighing 7lb 12. :-)

All in all a straightforward labour and delivery, no pain relief because it was all moving too fast. Nearly made myself deaf from my own screaming though. Midwives and DH were amazing. Still in hospital to establish bf but looking good. I'll catch up with everyone's news when I'm home. Take care. x

MamaMaiasaura · 07/10/2011 14:24

Mpops Grin congratulations!!! Welcome dorothea (lovely name) and wow on no pain relief!! I'll be getting all drugs, Wink

MamaMaiasaura · 07/10/2011 14:27

Getting regular pains again, 38 weeks tomorrow. Hoping will actually progress but will see what happens. Got last bits for baby today. Crib sheets, blanket, sponge bath support and most exciting a closer sling Grin got 15% off in mothercare. Also ordered a new mattress for our bed! Bargain £100 from John Lewis king size.

LittlePebble · 07/10/2011 15:06

Congratulations mpops xx

SconesForTea · 07/10/2011 15:30

Congratulations Cheshire and mpops, welcome to your little girls, what beautiful names Smile Would love to hear full birth stories when you're ready.

Awen are we the same due date? I'm 38w tomorrow and due 22nd. But I'm expecting mine to be late Hmm Any progress?

Hi cass good for you to stick to your hb guns. My friend has full-blown GD, has to take insulin and they are not inducing her early (altho will not let her go overdue) so surely there is no reason to induce you if you don't even have it. How was the Not a Baby Shower?

Edward Sad Anything happening?

I'm booked in for a reflexology session tomorrow for my restless legs. I don't hold out much hope it'll work, but for £25 for a full session I reckon it's worth a shot. And I've already told her I want her to try to start labour when the time comes! (I really don't think that will work.... but hey you've got to try everything right?)

Jane4321 · 07/10/2011 15:31

Big congrats mpops and Cheshire!

38+3

BB3 · 07/10/2011 15:35

Congratulations Mpops on your little girl! Well done! I will make sure I update the list later.

awen I love the close slings we have two of them which we got for ds and twins have lived in them when out. How are the pains?

MamaMaiasaura · 07/10/2011 16:27

Good to hear feedback about sling. Looking forward to using it Smile pains still there but not enough to stop me doing anything else. Positively thinking that my cervix and everything is softening etc and hoping it progresses, sunday would be nice 9/10/11. Did you get my pm? I don't know if it works from iPhone. How's ds and twins? Ds2 back to preschool on Monday. Hrs very clingy today, I do think he senses baby coming soon.

BB3 · 07/10/2011 18:13

Key is getting the slack right on your hips but I love ours - we also use their pop in nappies - can't wait for girls to reach 7lb so they can go in them and we can get rid of the disposables - hopefully not long now, Ayse-Rose was up to 6,8 on Tuesday.

Oh I haven't checked my computer but am determined to get on there tonight so will check. Ds went today and didn't do as well as Wednesday but his cold has come out so he's very clingy too. Bless ds it's nice in a way to have a mummy's boy though xxx

MamaMaiasaura · 07/10/2011 18:26

Bb3 - not heard of pop in nappies and ashamedly will be using disposables. Blush Thanks for tip on the hip slack thing. It's the one of only major purchase (other than mattress) for baby as already got other big stuff.

Your poor ds with cold, he's also had a massive amount of changes. As only 2 1/2. It's absurd what some preschools expect so quickly. Actually makes me Angry the pressure piled on child as parents when a child doesn't exactly fit their box... Sorry ranting there.

Still getting pains but not developing, come on baby there's no room left!

BB3 · 07/10/2011 18:56

Nothing wrong with disposables I have a weird sense if smell and certain things make me gag one of which is the smell of wee in disposables - I'm a bit odd with smells it's always really random things Blush

PenguinArmy · 07/10/2011 19:18

I hate the smell of disposables as well.

I've started nesting Grin and my bump has dropped but no actual sign of anything

I need to do DDs swim lesson with her tomorrow so need to dig out some shorts and a t-shirt as mothercare had no swimwear in my size. Better than spending money on something I'd use maybe twice.

38+6

BB3 · 07/10/2011 19:40

I can do poo in disposables no problem! But wee I cannot do! I've come a long way with the twins though as I've have had no choice (they're too small for reusables and have plenty of wet nappies) but still have to hold my breath a lot!

Molybdenum · 07/10/2011 19:52

BB3 you're amazing - life with new twins, older DS and you still find the time to be so active on this thread and so interested in everyone :)

So lovely to read of all these new arrivals. I just wish I could add myself to the list. Today I am 40+11 and really starting to feel impatient. Starting from tomorrow I have to go into hospital daily for foetal monitoring. Really not looking forward to it, as my midwife warned me that they can be quite pushy and I will have to maintain assertively that I certainly do NOT want to be induced. DH and I have spent the last few hours going through the NICE guidelines on induction with a fine-toothed comb, so I am very confidently versed in what should and shouldn't happen. We are satisfied that at this stage there would be greater risk to an induction than to me staying pregnant, and I am desperate not to miss out on my homebirth, so assuming all is well on the foetal monitor I am hoping it will be a quick in and out tomorrow morning before a day spent bouncing on my ball.
Does anyone else have any experience in refusing induction?

PenguinArmy · 07/10/2011 20:06

DD was too small for hers for ages as well and looks like Nigel will be for a few weeks. They're all ready and stuffed though, not some great used deals.

PenguinArmy · 07/10/2011 20:06

sorry Moly I plan to refuse induction, they can CS me but not induce

Ferino · 07/10/2011 20:06

Hi all,

Delighted to see so many people's good news stories - they've really made me re-focus. Congratulations to all concerned. Some lovely names coming up - shame we didn't know the ideas beforehand, especially for the boys as we were a bit stumped! Didn't matter in the end on that score though!

I'll not go into massive detail, since I don't think it serves much purpose on the ante-natal thread and I really did just have a lot of hard luck, but after a long old process Hannah Elizabeth arrived at 6am on Wednesday, and was 6lb 6oz (at 38+4). I've got a lot of work to do to get over a general and a caesarean but am determined to get through it with patience. Luckily my folks are over to stay indefinitely, now they realise the help I need, and they're definitely the kind of parents you want to have around in such circumstances. DH has been great too and is currently mastering the art of surfing the iPhone with one hand while his daughter snoozes in his other arm! So far so good.

Have any of you managed to get feedback on births from the medical staff involved, in terms of a debrief or plan for future pregnancies? I'm not really sure how to go about it - I spoke to the discharge doctor at reasonable length today about all my 'bad luck at every turn' problems but not really clear on how to go about being OK with it all in terms of making sure 'next time' has a very different plan/outcome if things happened the same way again. I'm keen to deal with it all up front so I don't find it becoming a bigger deal 12 months down the road, iykwim. As last time, any tips would be great, thanks.

I can't remember where the link to the births update is so if somebody could update or send me the link that'd be great, thanks. I'm a bit shattered to get sucked into surfing for it! Have we a post-natal thread too? I'll probably be a bit more active on that when I get a bit more back to normal, since I am not really fit for any other sort of activity for a while!

Take care all, and thanks again for the tips beforehand. There were a few I only just read today that I would certainly have discussed more with the medics if I'd seen them in advance so take note, still pregnant ladies! Knowledge is power and all that.

PenguinArmy · 07/10/2011 20:11

I'd ask at your 6 week check-up. Most places have one, but I think it's different in each area and you could probably do with a few weeks first. Will you have a consultant check-up or just a GP one? Or talk to your MW on your home visits (or HVs). A lot of people don't go over their first one until pg the second time.

Many congratulations though :)

bilblio · 07/10/2011 20:47

Congratulations Cheshire, Mpops & Ferino. Yet more lovely names.

Ferino sorry to hear things didn't go how you wanted. No experience of getting debriefed regards births just other situations. But I would imagine your first port of call would be your midwife she may be able to find out what happened and discuss things with the people involved in your care. If that doesn't get you anywhere your hospital or wherever you were will have a PALS team (Patient Advise & Liaison) they will be able to take things further for you.
I strongly agree you should discuss things now rather than worrying about them and trying to sort things in the future when the people involved may not remember. Write down any questions you have too rather than trying to remember them.

TallyBear pains at the top of the bump sounds to me like bruising, I've had it a lot at varies times through both pregnancies, 2 very fidgety babies. Lots of sympathy. I've tried nicely asking LO to stop kicking me in the ribs, I've also tried strong words. :o

37+4 today, I'm sure my bump has dropped, hips and back are really aching and I had a lot of period type pains last night. But I think it may all be because I spent a couple of hours sat of the floor at an NCT meeting last night. Daft but it was actually comfier than the alternatives.
I did have a very spicey curry for tea though. Hmm
My in-laws are now in Cambodia for the next 2 weeks so they've said I'm not allowed to give birth until they're back.
DH is going out on Sunday for an early birthday celebration (his birthday is 4 days before my due date.) He's not very keen on leaving me though so my parents are coming up for the day to entertain DD, and Mum will no doubt clean everywhere.

I've spent most of today going through a baby name book, and reading the unusual names thread on here. We still have no clue on a boys name. I feel much more panicked about it than I was last time, even though I was convinced she was a boy.
Really hope DH relents at the last minute as he did last time.

MamaMaiasaura · 07/10/2011 21:01

Congratulations Ferino Smile

I'm still getting pains and getting stronger. Will try bed with paracetamol in an hour and see what happens. Had ds1 at 38 weeks and I'll be that tomorrow x

pinkpainter · 07/10/2011 21:07

Wow! 3 birth announcements in one day - well done Cheshire, MPops and Ferino, and a big welcome to all those baby girls!!

I got woken in the middle of the night by a friend in labour on the phone, brought it all back to me, it was all so exciting and frantic at the same time - really looking forward to it being my turn next! Getting loads of BH and shooting pains where the head is going down into my cervix - but nothing else yet - wondering how much longer it will be though....

38+1
