Congratulations Cheeky wonderful news!
Thanks so much for sharing your birth story BB3: am amazed again by your rapid recovery and brilliant baby sizes!
SO exciting on this thread now....no signs for me yet, although some lovely loosening of bowels occaisonally, which is fun!
Last day at work today!! Yaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!
37 +5 today
xx

mpops · 23/09/2011 11:53

What a story BB3! You were very brave!

monkey, sounds frustrating to have such intense contractions and then nothing. Hope something happens soon.

I prepared my birth plan (from the NHS site) and attached it to my notes, just in case. I think it was mostly for me and DH to get our heads round everything but hopefully it'll serve some purpose too. I found it quite a comforting experience as a first-timer!

Absolutely nothing happening here. Over and out at 38+2.

soundofherwings · 23/09/2011 12:33

Hi everyone, wow this thread is moving fast. Not been on for a few days and so much has happened! Congrats to BB3 and cheeky. Such gorgeous names!

I did my birth plan a couple of weeks ago- it's a bit in depth since I'm a medical student and have opinions on pretty much every possible eventuality, so I have my ideal birth ideas written down, but then preferences on pain relief, epidurals, forceps, complications and c-sections! I found it useful to write down not just my ideal birth but also my preferences for other interventions so I don't feel as if what I want has just been thrown out the window if I don't get my no-interventions-homebirth.

I've been having some period like pains this morning, and strong braxton hicks- I'm hoping something is happening but I'm keeping quiet about it- DH has a job interview in a couple of hours and I don't want to get him all stressed for nothing. It'll probably all tail off again, this has happened 4 times now!

soundofherwings · 23/09/2011 12:33

Oh, and 39 weeks today!

GroovyRach · 23/09/2011 12:38

Morning/afternoon ladies!!

BB3 how lovely to read your birth story! must have been very scary though just to suddenly have such heavy bleeding. will all seem a distant memory now that you have your two little girls :) glad to hear everything is going well. looks like i might have to start some major DIY tasks then to getting labour started?! Grin how funny that its happened both times like that now!

sassy im loving the name esme! i have my little girls name all pick out but if i was still at the deciding stage, it would be getting added to the list!

crazy i was told at my 37 week mw app that she thought baby was back to back as i was having terrible back ache. advised me to get sitting (and bouncing!) on ball, try sit on edge of couch leaning forward and with legs open Hmm as it helps to open pelvis and encourage baby to turn right way. i also tried laying over ball but it wasent the most comfy position! try and have a look on youtube, they show u some suggestions on there!

monkey oh that must have been exciting but to then have it all suddenly stop is a bit of a pain in the ass! i was the same last night, few really strong pains and i thought that this was it. settled down into just period type cramps but then after a few hours it was gone. this baby eviction is harder than i thought it would be Confused!!

scheh is the EVC when they try and turn the baby? good luck with whatever you decided to to. looks like you will have a date to count down to, unless you go into labour before!

well, not much happening with me! had a bit of a better sleep last night which helped as i was feeling rubbish yesterday as id had so little the night before. off for a wander into Glasgow. have a dress i need to take back so its a good excuse to get out the house for a few hours. ex p finally text twice yesterday, first time to say that his phone hadent been working hence why he hadent been in touch Hmm but was there anything else left still to get for baby? Confused. i didnt reply then he text a few hours later asking if i was ok. i text back this morning just sayin 'yeah im fine, thanks for asking'. at this point, i really dont have much else to say! grrr Angry

anyway, im off. check back later. have good day everyone xx

GroovyRach · 23/09/2011 12:39

oh, always forget to add 38+5 today!

LittlePebble · 23/09/2011 14:23

Congratulations Cheeky!

BB3 - hanks for the birth story you sound very brave to me not having your DH with you and sending your mum home!

Rebel - yay for Mat leave.

Re: names, 2 of my top three girls names have already been used for the first babies on the bus so we obviously have excellent taste! Grin

Quick question - how many frankfurters is too many frankfurters....can see myself chomping through an entire packet today for some reason they are really moreish!

Going back to read all the posts I haven't caught up with now x

PenguinArmy · 23/09/2011 14:41

is slightly too proud that I have a Esme Grin

cheeky meant to say I loved your post. I think on our last one if there were terror stories they were put on the post-natal thread in more detail versus the ante-natal which had a more brief post. Also it depended on whether babies were the first ones or the last ones (i.e where most people were). It was pretty lonely by the end.

We made it out, feel human again to spend time just chit chatting with others :)

36+6

PenguinArmy · 23/09/2011 14:43

there's no such thing as too many of anything this late in the game.

Molybdenum · 23/09/2011 14:49

Congratulations on the little girls who have arrived so far - very exciting!
I'm 39+4 today and am really feeling that things are happening. Lots of uncomfortable low down sensations, uterus feeling quite full and warm as it does when I'm menstruating. Although it's exciting I'm also completely terrified, so am practising my hypnobirthing breathing and relaxation. I keep telling myself that there are thousands of women giving birth right now, it's totally normal etc. etc., but I'm still a little scared.

sassy34264 · 23/09/2011 14:52

you are definately brave bb3. i would have been panicking and demanding a c sec straight away.

im so full of a cold at minute and i could literally sleep on my feet. i had to take jacob back to the docs this morning as his croup is not improving at all. they have given me more steroids. i always read the leaflet from start to finish, but wish i hadnt. ive never seen such a long list of side effects! first one says depression and suicidal thoughts. Hmm im presuming he'll be ok on that one. ha, just thought, he has fell over the back of the couch today- im wondering now whether he threw himself off on purpose?!

penguin do you proununce it esME or esMay?

dp set off early when i text him about jacob getting worse, so hopefully he should be home any time now. im going to either sleep on the couch or slop off to bed for an hour or two.

PenguinArmy · 23/09/2011 14:57

We do esME but we still have other people calling her esMAY, it's slowly getting through. It's actually technically her nn as we were evil and went with Esmerelda as her full name. DH initially vetoed the name but after labour agreed when she asked us her name and I said that I still liked it. He was still traumatised by the labour and would have given me anything I wanted Grin. To be fair it had been a long few days

Fleecy · 23/09/2011 15:27

I love birth stories and BB yours has reassured me loads as am now getting nervous about recovering from the section.

DD had croup a couple of times but never bad enough to need steroids. Just 'normal' croup terrified me enough so sorry to hear J is still unwell Sad

bilblio · 23/09/2011 16:09

wow so far we have girls, c-sections and placental problems dominating the birth list!
BB3 They were pretty much my words to DH last night, he's very interested in all the events here. Last time he even managed to post an update for me when I was in hospital (it was pre-smart phone days.)
Loved your birth story and I agree you were very brave!

Safariboots Try Gaviscon Advance, it's twice as strong. At the moment I'm coping with Peptac, which is the cheap version. If you've got heartburn and indigestion there's Gaviscon double action.

But all you people buying Gaviscon. Why???
Get it free on prescription. The GP's will want to give you the cheaper versions, but if they don't work stamp your feet and demand the good stuff. :o

sassy sorry to hear the lurgy is still at your house. Evil germs!

Rotten nights sleep last night. I over did it yesterday with the nesting and my SPD has flared up. I'm still coughing loads and having to take ventolin in the night. My stomach hurts from all the coughing... and don't even mention my PF. Blush It wasn't good anyway. Oh and the coughing is making my heartburn worse too. Grr! I've got used to the SPD but the cough is seriously cheesing me off now.

If I was sensible I'd have taken it easy today... but no, I'm in full on Nesting mode. The car boot is full of things to go to the charity shop. Maternity clothes, and a lot of teddies & toys which I smuggled out while DD was at school. :o I've found the pram bag, and found a home for all the towels and baby blankets. However I've still not found the clips that fasten the car seat to the pram...

Oh and I've still not packed my hospital bag.... however I've packed a bag for DD in case she needs to go away for a couple of nights and our bed is covered with lots of things destined for the hospital bag.... so I'm getting closer to doing it... it may even get done tonight. Shock :o

Has anyone else seen these reports of snow in October? I'm trying to come up with contingency plans, just in case. We live in the foothills of the Pennines.... and my parents live the other side of them. IL's are quite likely to be in the Philippines when this one arrives... DD was born on the day in 2007 when huge parts of the south of England flooded. FIL couldn't get to us as he was stuck on a motorway watching cars float past him. Sod's law they'll be some weather related incident that puts a spanner in the works this time too.

Scheherezade · 23/09/2011 16:20

too much chocolate cake....feel sick.....

Scheherezade · 23/09/2011 17:48

bilbio - get that bag packed!! Am doing the baby bag tonight, my hospital bag is in the car :)

Am not worrying too much about the weather, means I get to use my cute baby snowsuits Grin - although our bedroom is FREEZING in winter :(

agree re: gaviscon - I got mine free from docs (free prescriptions when you're preggers, hooray!)

I am in AGONY from SPD, plus my bump is really sore from all the B, I'm like a little old lady when I try to stand up (except I'm young and fat!). Did far too much running around yesterday, and I've made stable lads a choc cake to say thanks, so I need to dro pthat off, brush the horse, then pick up the yard owners tack as I'm cleaning it for him in time for the weekend :( Can't really complain, they're pretty much looking after my horse for free, and saving me £60per week. I think chips, curry sauce, battered sausage, a good film, bath and bed are on the cards tonight!

Scheherezade · 23/09/2011 17:49

all the braxton hicks*

GroovyRach · 23/09/2011 18:16

scheh I feel your pain. I phoned mw and asked if I could be givin a sweep in the next few days to see if it would help things along as im in agony with SPD. she basically told me 'not a chance' as they don't even consider till after 40 wks! Sad. Iv got mw app on tue (will be 39+2), tempted to turn on the tears and beg that they give it a go for me!

She dis however keep me on the phone for 10 mins on how to help SPD. Advice on getting in and out car, in and out of bed etc. Felt like screaming down phone 'don't u think I know and do this already?!'. I know she was only trying to help but it wasn't what I wanted to hear Angry

CheshireDing · 23/09/2011 19:11

I can't believe it's all girls too at the moment. I don't know what Porgey is but if it is a boy it will not be the first anyway, I am pretty sure it's very comfy in there right now and loving sticking its bottom under my ribs!

Plus I don't want it to turn up until I have been to the hairdressers, cleaned the house and had some maternity leave on my own. I have started to get a bit scared though about something embarrassing like a big flood of waters breaking whilst I am at work. I would DIE if that happened!

I heard about the snows too, I am not convinced though. Sounds lovely and exciting and I did wind DH up saying "oh what if the snow was really bad and mw couldn't get here". He wasn't impressed.

I love the name EsME too, it's not on our short list but that's only because we have picked other names now, it's a lot of responsibility isn't it because I have been trying to gauge how many there are likely to be with the same name once they get to school to by looking at the stats for 2010.

Anyway taking DH to the pub now and may buy cake on the way home for myself :)

sunface · 23/09/2011 19:23

eugh just had emotional breakdown mid tidy of DC's bedroom! What was that about?!! Now getting lots of Braxton Hicks and have a funny, kinda period coming, feeling at the bottom left hand side of bump... hmmmmm i wonder... On the other hand, keep reading about signs like this that can go on for weeks before bump makes an appearance!!!!
I'm def purchasing a curry tonight!!!

Cheshire i also love the name Esme, but DP has vetoed it for some reason :(

PenguinArmy · 23/09/2011 20:00

it's OK sunface there are plenty of us who have done or will do. Was a bit of a shock to me coz I was never emotional when pg the first time around. Enjoy your curry (and hope it doesn't give you heartburn)

sunface · 23/09/2011 20:38

Thanks penguin likewise i dont' remember feeling like this first or second time around... heeehee have the Gaviscon on standby for washing down the curry Wink

bilblio · 23/09/2011 20:57

Hospital bag sort of packed.... only sort of because I've realised there's loads of things I don't have. Erk! I thought I'd still got button front nighties and big t-shirts for giving birth in, but because I've lost so much weight it seems they've all gone to the charity shop.
The bag is sorted for the baby though, and we've packed a bag for DD in case she has to stay over night anywhere. Tomorrow or Monday I'll have to go shopping.

I bought a baby name book online a few days ago and it arrived today. I've been reading it on and off all day but still no inspiration for a boy's name. They all seem to be either too wacky, too popular, or too old fashioned.
We never agreed on a boy's name with DD. I wanted Seth, and I've been fighting for that name for almost 5 years now. DH still hates it....

Hopefully the 3 people who predicted I'd have a girl last week will be right (although I'll be disappointed to not win the Seth argument :o )

When it snowed last year our road was only passable with 4x4's for a couple of days until the snow ploughs came. Midwives borrowed the countryside patrollers 4x4's. I'm bothered about my parents not getting here though. My Mum is talking about doing a practice run on the train and she'll stay overnight if needed.

bilblio · 23/09/2011 22:31

More news on cupoftea's thread and it's not looking good again. :(
I can't help but hope though. Poor cupoftea. I wish there was something I could do to help.

Scheherezade · 23/09/2011 23:32

poor cupoftea, am thinking of her

I'm having a boy! So there will be one October baby boy at least :)

Had hoped to get a good nights sleep tonight, but no. Horrible BH, plus feeling a bit down about stuff, just had to get up. Might try snoozing again.
