TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 21/09/2011 21:43

I have quite a few colleagues who work there. The chat is that the patient spaces are great, just a lack of office space for consultants! Was supposed to be going to a meeting there there other week for a look round the equivalent department to mine (my hospital are also moving site in a few months, so was particularly interested), but it was cancelled, so haven't seen it with my own eyes.

littlemonkeybix · 21/09/2011 21:51

How jealous am I Grin You've all got local buddies!! Even on mumsnet local there's nothing but tumbleweeds for me!! Oh, there was an update from Dec 2010 I think!!

Also, can I get some more movements noe please... Surely if you all join up and shout to it, pip will get some feelable wriggles on again?!

Not worried as I'm still only 16/17 +4!!

Off to bobos now, had yet another day of mega tireds... Roll on energy times!! Nanight all x

ZhenXiang · 21/09/2011 22:00

Congrats on the scans Potol and babycarmen

diedandgonetodevon - I have a cold too :(. Couldn't sleep lying on side as squashed chest too much and started coughing. Finally at 2am last night I got a heap of pillows propped myself up and fell asleep sitting up. If you nose is really blocked try saline nasal spray, really works and is fine for pregnancy (also good for kids too).

Bill and Coffeeone* - I get palpitations too sometimes when I overdo it, goes when I sit down for a bit.

I got told in early pregnancy that I had a heart murmur, apparently they are quite common in pregnancy due to the increased blood flow through the heart. Had ECG and all was fine, but they can come and go so if you are worried go to GP and get them to listen to you heart. I can still go to gym so long as heart rate doesn't go too high.

Innocent glad you are seeing midwife tomorrow, try to think positively x

sugarkane glad you are feeling better, had no idea that low levels of B12 could affect you in that way although I did know a little about pernicious anaemia.

Kayano · 21/09/2011 22:36

I wish I could kick baby in the bladder. It's all or nothing! I had to arrange a tech support callback today while I made a mad dash to the loo Blush

Oh well, baby saved the customer some £ money lol

Hopefully it will be as considerate on my wallet Grin

diedandgonetodevon · 21/09/2011 22:37

Thanks for the saline spray tip- will be off to get me one tomorrow morning

BillComptonstrousers · 21/09/2011 22:41

Am def going to ring midwife about palpitations as I've been getting quite a few today :-( I know most of the time they are nothing to worry about, but one earlier really scared me.

Great scan news carmen and potol

I'm in Durham Kayano so not too far!

Oh my god mrshuxtable totally mis-read your post and though your second choice name fir the baby was Larbert hahaha

Bloomin consultants. Had scan today (all lovely, didn't want to know boy or girl), and afterwards tried to introduce the subject of the scan date being wrong. Obviously this consultant has had this conversations LOTS of times, but still, she did get a bit too worked up about it. Because we had IVF we know EXACTLY when it was conceived, 16th May. DD1 was conceived on 18th May, and due date was 11th Feb, born on 9th Feb. with this one, conceived only 2 days before (and 2 years later, in case this is confusing!), due date is 31st january, where we would expect 9th feb. Anyway, doc's answer was that conceived embryos can hang around for a WEEK in the uterus without implanting, so that must be what happened with DD, as scans are NEVER wrong. End of conversation. Is anyone on here medical and can tell me she's wrong about how long they can wait before implanting, as it sounds SO unlikely to me.

However, she did sound hopeful that i could have a low-dependency birth despite haemorhage last time:) So she's not all mad bad.

on other subjects, i'm also Lucy, i think it's a great name. We're also struggling with names, DD's name is really unusual so i feel we need an equally lovely unusual one, but DH vetoes everything i suggest. I did run one VERY unusual one past my sister at the weekend, one that DH does actually like, and she thought it was beautiful, so maybe we'll go with that. If it's a girl...

I am in teesside in the northeast, whoever asked, but it's a world away from Durham, so I can't help with antenatal stuff i'm afraid.

off to sleep now, been a busy day!

20 weeks (or 21 +1 if you're a doctor!)

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 22/09/2011 09:36

woowa, it's a bit out of my area (I tend to stay north of the diaphragm!), but from my memory, I had certainly thought that fertilised eggs could stay in the uterus for a good 5 days or so before implanting. Estimating the date of delivery isn't just about size (although that correlates pretty well in early scans), but also about other features of development. There will always be a degree of variation, and "normal" is counted as 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the EDD, so there's a good bit of leeway!

Re palpitations (which ARE my area!), they are very common in pregnancy. Pregnant women seem much more aware of the normal extra beats that we all have and even the normal heart rhythm, probably due to the combination of the higher heart rate in pregnancy, and the fact that there's twice as much carrying fluid in the blood stream. If it's just an awareness of a missed beat (extra beats are actually often sensed as a missed beat), or of a single thump or 2, lasting only for a couple of seconds or few seconds we generally don't get concerned about that. Again, if it's repeated awareness of that over a longer period of time (like a thump or 2, then fine for a minute then another thump or 3 or missed beats, repeated like that for half an hour, for instance), that's unlikely to be anything to be concerned about. If you have an unpleasant awareness of your heart beat that is lasting continuously for longer than a few seconds, then it may be worth seeing your GP. Hope that helps.

Sugarkane · 22/09/2011 09:58

MrsHuxtable No its not incompetence its just a general lack of activities, although there are loads of groups around here for when baby comes. I'm normally too busy to get to them but really do try honest.

Its Larbert for me, not seen any bad reviews of it yet and every visit I've been to so far has been really good. Ive seen a web tour thingy of the birthing rooms and they look very big, also like how if your complication free they try and keep you in that room instead of sending you to post natal ward and then home. I'm guessing its mostly the same staff as Stirling and had met some lovely people there with DC's (apart from one auxiliary).

BillComptonstrousers · 22/09/2011 10:11

Morning wicket The 'fluttering' in my heart that happened yesterday lasted well over 30 seconds, to the point it was really making me feel quite anxious. Even today I it feels like there is something not quite right.

I am prone to panic attacks and anxiety though, and came off a small dose of propanolol when I found out I was pregnant, but have been feeling fine since I stopped taking them. Maybe a quick trip to the docs is in order, I hate feeling like I'm wasting an appointment though!

OP posts:
InnocentRedhead · 22/09/2011 10:12

Oh, midwife appointment today, I hope everything goes ok. I just can't stop this anxiety. I have had a good few days without it, but now it has returned with a vengeance. I can't bond with my bump, I just fear everything, I keep thinking have i imagined that movement? Is there a baby really there? Hopefully MW will manage to calm my anxiety, I don't know how though.

Anyone in West Yorkshire? I think I just need someone out there to see. I am rather lonely where I am but I don't know anyone pregnant around here. Hopefully going to a teen pregnancy group every Tuesday in my town centre, but seeing as I am 20 in 5 weeks I hope they keep me there.

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 22/09/2011 10:17

Bill, I suspect it's all fine and is related to the background of anxiety and not being on the propranolol, but if it was continuous for over 30 seconds, nobody would criticise you for asking your GP about it and I think that would be reasonable.

For the Stirling/Falkirk girls, I've recently had an invitation on Facebook from Stirling ToddlerSense, so there must be Baby Sensory in Stirling for once your LOs are here. Baby Sensory is the only class I did with DD and we both loved it. Totally recommended!

Innocent - hope you feel reassured by today's appointment.

babycarmen · 22/09/2011 11:17

Oh loads of Scots, huh? :) Im near(ish) Aberdeen Grin

Im so tired today i can barely function. And ive got loads to do today. Siiigh...

Was getting loads of kicks last night and could see my tummy moving :D cute!

Innocent Hope you feel better after your appointment, i was exactly the same with my first pregnancy

phlossie · 22/09/2011 11:55

I've heard baby sensory is worth doing, wicket - they do it round here.

Innocent - my scan totally put the anxiety to rest. How long have you got to wait?

I should be doing 5 million things (approx) today, but I'm being so lazy!

woowa - I'm intrigued about your names. I spent a lot of name on the baby names section of Mumsnet last night. We have a couple of names, but haven't talked about them seriously yet. We already have Rufus and Betty (short for Beatrice), and we both like Gabriel and Tabitha, DH likes Hermione, I like Persephone and Finian. It's nice having one of each already because we can test the names on our DCs and if they'd suit DD or DS they'll probably suit DC3!

InnocentRedhead · 22/09/2011 12:55

I have got 8 days to wait until my scan, I will be 20+4 on it. I have being like it for every scan, even when I went to the MW at 16 weeks I was panicking they wouldn't find a heartbeat. It's just scary, and sometimes I see you guys on here and think I'm not getting that, should I be getting that etc. Like i say I keep thinking did I imagine that movement. Fingers crossed eh :)

I have got loads to do today too, well got a wedding flowers appointment after midwife, something to look forward to.

There is a lot of Scots here on this bus!! What were you all doing in May ha!!

littlemonkeybix · 22/09/2011 13:18

Quick Q for anyone who may know.... Can I use codlsore cream during PG?

I have a beautiful one developing on my lip, and can feel one brewing up my nostril (TMI SORRY!!)

I'm such a sexy beast - raaar!!

InnocentRedhead · 22/09/2011 13:24

Yeah, you can use it, I had a cold sore in early PG and got some on prescription, just the same stuff as normal.

Remember all the fucking trouble I had with my boss... There is now more, just checked my rota. She has now put me on a day off that i booked! The 30th for my scan!!! Can I ask her to pay me for this time I go for the scan and go in later? fuming is not the word

phlossie · 22/09/2011 13:29

I think, legally, your company has to give you time off for referred hospital appointments.

InnocentRedhead · 22/09/2011 13:45

That's the thing I thought I would be nice and book the time off as unpaid and work around it, I am a hourly paid employee. Seen my rota and I have being scheduled to work for the day I booked off for my scan (the 30th). i am sick of the way I have being treated. So I emailed my boss saying that I had booked that day off for the scan, to work on another day, except I have now being rota-d. So i will now be exercising my right to Paid time off for antenatal care, as I am entitled to it and will come in late for this shift.

I am sick of being walked all over and wasn't going to lay down nicely for this one.

littlemonkeybix · 22/09/2011 13:58

Aww Innocent you've had a right time of it in work Sad

Wish that we could go round and give your boss a stern talking to for you! What a plank!

It would be worth keeping a note of things like this... if she keeps dong things like that, would it be grounds to go for unfair dismissal if you had to leve over it??! I know that's extreme, but I always keep a record of everything untoward after I had a bit of a work drama myself! (bullying boss etc)

Good luck, and chin up chuck!! Smile

diedandgonetodevon · 22/09/2011 14:03

I think I have bronchitis :( Am sat at home wheezing like a wheezy thing and my inhaler is making not a jot of difference. Waiting for a call back from the doctor. Even the dragon of a receptionist was nice to me as she could hear me gasping down the phone.

20wks

PamBeesly · 22/09/2011 15:12

Innocent they have to give you the time off for your scan. Its the law, I'd agree with monkey and keep a log of all the incidents at work regarding your pregnancy.
Also I know this sounds really basic but have you tried any breathing exercises to help you with the anxiety? I sometimes feel the weight of the world is on top of me with the stress of work and I need to zone out (and I can't indulge in wine) so I've tried breathing. Also I know a lot of massage in pregnnacy is a no no but could you maybe get your partner to give you a really nice foot rub or head massage just so you can unwind a bit and try to relax? Hopefully after your scan you will feel more assured.
The teen pregnancy group should definitely accomodate you, it would be nice to meet others in the same stages of pregnancy in rela life too.

I'm so jealous of all the scans its still 5 weeks until mine! Lovely to hear of loads of healthy little girls and boys though :)

17+6

ZhenXiang · 22/09/2011 16:04

diedandgone :( sorry to hear you feel so unwell, if gets really bad while waiting for call back go to A&E, do not take chances especially as you are asthmatic.

Well done for standing your ground Innocent agree with others that you should write it all down (good thing sending by email as that is written proof from your end).

InnocentRedhead · 22/09/2011 16:17

Just got back from my midwife appointment, somewhat reassured that the cramps and stretches and things are normal. Some of my anxiety is normal, well some of my worrying is. But she did say the amount I am is not. She did mention referring me to a listening service as they are there to listen. However because I am considering a home birth, if people get involved such as listening services and then they may refer to doctors and consultants meaning that HB would be out.

She listened to the heartbeat which was reassuring. Took some finding though so she said they are laying right at the back, which i thought they were anyway, or the placenta is at the front which is why it was harder to find (found it straight away at my 16w though) and may be why I am not so sure about some movement. She invited me to come to the weekly midwife drop in as she feels that it would probably relax me about everything, e.g listening to the heartbeat and just to have a chat. This is probably what I will do. Hopefully will be able to start bonding with my bump now.

Might try the breathing exercises, want to try some form of meditation and practice breathing exercises for labour. Hopefully at the teen PG group they might have some advice for stuff like that. Definitely will go though. Wanting to start pilates but at £8 a session, not something I can fully afford. But will wait and see.

Also got the email about my NCT classes and they are £157 (aren't they sneaky though by ADDING the membership to it straight away. You should have the option to put it ON, rather than have to consciously take it off. I know it doesn't take much, but still). Hope may be able to get some of the course fee discounted for low income too. Classes through December and January with the postnatal session in April :o hopefully be able to book my NHS ones after my scan :)

Well lets see what comes from the email I sent her comes to, i have being scheduled the hours so I have to get the hours scheduled paid for whether I work them or not. It is probably just a misunderstanding so I will see what she says when she sends me something back. Good idea about keeping a diary, already jotted some stuff down, so I will just add to that.

Bloody essay right there for you to read! But I am definitely feeling better!

ZhenXiang · 22/09/2011 16:33

Sounds like you have good support from your midwife Innocent, weekly drop-in sounds like a good plan.

With regard to Pilates, I didn't do a class with DD, but used this book which is really good and has sections for first, second and third trimester. When you have baby you can use it too to get back into shape in reverse order (3rd, 2nd, 1st trimester exercises). I am using it this time around too in an effort to sort out my abs before VBAC.
