Ladies, our previous thread was getting full so here is a lovely new shiny home for us all.

I've put some comfy cushions around and plenty of pregnancy safe snacks and drinks. The Segway park is in the corner over there next to the stack of glittery vom buckets (plenty of extra buckets too for all the newbies).

In the corner over here you'll find our library of leaflets including sections on early pregnancy private scan clinics, pushchairs and car seats.

Hope you all like it very much :)

Argh chicken pox! Such a scary spectre! I haven't had it so I'm generally avoiding all mini-people at the moment! I had to miss the christening of a gorgeous little boy whose parents I'm very close to a couple of weeks ago, because the little boy himself was just getting over chicken pox and all his little nursery friends would be there so I was worried the other kids might be contagious as well. Such a shame. I'm glad (in the nicest possible way!) that you've had it before though Scarlet. The little I understand about this I think means that you're protected!

How is everyone else this morning?! I'm still feeling nauseous but it's a beautiful sunny morning and it's the first day since last Friday that my back has felt okay enough for me to escape the house for a while! Woo hoo!! Where shall I visit with my newfound freedom!?! (Sadly I'm actually thinking of going to Morrisons - mainly because Biscuits captivated me with her tales of tomato ketchup crisps a while ago!!)

fishcakefoxtrot · 15/09/2011 11:16

Good morning! It is lovely and sunny here, too.

I am not feeling too pukey today. Luckily for me I have just felt nauseous without actually vomiting, so I just feel permanently hungover. I had a flapjack at about 9.30am and that has helped.

Good luck with the scan, Meconium.

Glad to hear things calmed down, musicalmrs, will be brooking no argument for you for the next 8 months or so.

dreamfeeder · 15/09/2011 11:19

I am fed up with calling Huey down the Big White Telephone.

I was up at 3 am vomiting. And 7 am, then decided to make an effort and take DD to the playground as it's sunny. What a mistake. I was sick 5, yes 5, times in the ginnel in our village on the way back in a rush. How embarrassing. I could have died. Sad

And STILL have a really upset stomach. And horribly sore cracked lips because i think i'm a bit dry but water, or anything, is making me hurl this morning.

Good lord, listen to me whinge! Thank goodness I haven't got hyperemesis, you'd have to actually kick me off the thread for lowering the mood!

I got stuck with a cocky male midwife for one shift. Horrible. Kept chatting to DH about his upcoming holiday etc etc and totally ignoring me. Next time I think I'll say I'm a muslim as all the muslim mums refuse to have a male midwife Wink And one midwife who frightened the life out of me came in announcing 'The consultant thinks you'll have to have a section, but I said we'd get a natural birth out of you'. at a time when I was really, really suffering, and exhausted, and she said she thought she'd 'see where we were in 10 hours' and I thought 'I can't cope'... Never been so scared of a m/w not telling the consultant the full truth to put off the consultant coming to see me. Luckily, the consultant came anyway, and I felt much better after that. And did avoid a section too.

Good luck for your scan meconium, sure it'll be wonderful... Envy

There is no problem with being around chicken pox when you're pg if you've already had it. I found out last time as I too work with children, but found schools who rang me to say 'you came in to see X yesterday and they've got chicken pox!'. I was fine as I've had it. sensible for you to stay away scream.

Hello purple, i am much more scared about bad things happening late on this time. I don't think I will be totally relaxed until the baby is out and in my arms. And what a horrible experience meme... Do you work in A&E or paeds/ obs and gynae?

fishcakefoxtrot · 15/09/2011 11:35

Sorry to hear you are feeling so rough Dream, hope you feel better soon. Being sick is bad enough but then you just start to feel so grotty for not eating, it's just self-perpetuating.

I think I was lucky to be so well looked after both antenatally and postnatally. Of course we are all going to brook no argument and get marvellous care throughout this time (is it cheating if I follow that up by touching wood? Am still new to this total positivity thing... Grin)

LoveInAColdClimate · 15/09/2011 12:49

Oh, meme, how dreadful. You poor thing.

Good luck with the scan, Meconium.

Dream, if you're being that sick, is it worth going to GP/midwife for some anti-sickness drugs? If you can't even keep water down, they might want to give you something?

I feel like I've done 1000 sit ups - owwwww!

dreamfeeder · 15/09/2011 13:09

I had cyclizine last time love. Helped a little, I think. I have a morning like this, then will feel a bit better for a couple of hours and have a drink, so I don't know if they would as I don't think I'm clinically dehydrated overall. Not hyperemesis as I have only lost 2 or 3lb ( I think by 10 weeks last time I was a good half stone down and i'm 9 weeks tomorrow), midwife did my BMI yest, and i'm 5'4" and 8st 3 now, still giving me a BMI of 20 so she wasn't worried. I did say I was being sick and losing weight slowly, didn't really go into the sickness though, didn't have time, DD was tootling about, got hold of m/w car keys etc etc and I more wanted to just stop DD trying to get at her handbag!!!! I didn't feel this bad when I saw her... 1000 sit ups?! am i being dim??

BartletForAmerica · 15/09/2011 13:13

meme, sounds awful.

Re: chicken pox, just to update purple's advice, if you have had before, you are immune from chicken pox, but do see your GP if you are not sure. They can do a blood test to check.

With regards to children with it, they are infectious from 2 days before the rash to 5-7 days after the rash appears. You do not need to stay indoors until the rash has gone, just until the spots are crusted over. Then you are no longer infectious.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/chickenpox/Pages/Introduction.aspx

dream, that sounds awful. Hope the sickness settles down soon. In a strange way, I want my morning sickness to start so I can feel pregnant. Last night, I kept complaining that I didn't feel pregnant and felt so well, until hyperemesis started at 10 weeks. This time though, I am Brooking No Argument!

Good luck with the scan, Meconium.

LoveInAColdClimate · 15/09/2011 13:14

You poor thing, Dream - I hope you feel better soon.

1000 sit ups = really, realy sore stomach muscles! Dr Google says this is normal as everything is stretching but am really uncomfortable. Yow. (Sense I may not be good at labour if I think this hurts!).

Biscuitsandtea · 15/09/2011 13:15

Aw Dream sorry you're feeling awful still Sad Can you have a nap while DD does? Or at least a rest and relax?

Love is that your tummy stretching? Some days my tummy feels like I am constantly bending over backwards even when I'm just stood up straight.

To be fair I don't think I'd know what 1000 sit ups feels like Grin

dreamfeeder · 15/09/2011 13:19

bartlet, i am in awe of your doing it again with a young child after having hyperemesis last time. If you had it before, are you at increased risk of developing it again?? I imagine you might be. While I feel dreadful, and have a raw throat from puking, and the embarrassment of being sick in a public place 5 times with DD this morning, .I still have enough sense to be grateful I'm not as ill as you were, and meme, and aubers. It's hard not to feel sorry for myself... I am trying to give myself a good shake.

oh heck DD come to help, best go

BartletForAmerica · 15/09/2011 13:22

dream, I am in a state of denial. I have just decided that it won't happen again. I don't remember how bad it was anyway! My DH doesn't have quite the same rose-tinted memories of my pregnancy...

Biscuitsandtea · 15/09/2011 13:23

Bartlet that's not denial - it's brooking no argument! Hope it works though! Smile

OP posts:
LoveInAColdClimate · 15/09/2011 13:30

Yes, Biscuits, I think it's just my muscles stretching to accomodate the increasingly giant bump but is v sore! Am wondering if it's some of the reason I have such bad backache as I'm maybe trying to take the weight off abs by putting strain on back?

scarletfingernail · 15/09/2011 13:33

Thanks all for the chicken pox info. Phew, I've definitely had so at least I haven't got to add anything else on to the worry list just yet!

I've made a decision re the flu jab. I'm going to book in for it shortly after I've reached 12 weeks which will be mid-October, so hopefully before flu's spread around too much.

Bartlet got everything crossed for you for you not to get hyperemesis again. Are you more likely to get it if you've had it before or does it just get people randomly? Sounds like the worst pregnancy symptom ever.

dream sorry to hear you've had a rough morning. Credit to you for taking DD out when you feel as bad as that.

mememummy · 15/09/2011 13:44

dream I work In a&e and get ur self to gp he can give u a jab of cyclazine and tablets to take if u leave it to long you will end up in hospital xxx it's all dependant on keytones in your urine rather than weight loss I have lost 14lb in total but only 4 before I was kept in x

BartletForAmerica · 15/09/2011 13:52

scarlet, apparently it can all be a bit random. No-one really knows why people get hyperemesis - lots of theories, no answers.

dream, do see your doctor sooner rather than later. As meme says, they will check your urine for ketones, which show that your body is burning up your fat stores, rather than getting energy from food that you are not keeping down! When I had hyperemesis, the tablets didn't do much, but the intravenous fluids made me feel human again - I'd obviously been getting more and more dehydrated over weeks.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 15/09/2011 15:00

I'm glad everyone who knows about hypermesis is passing on advice to Dream - we've got to look after you! I hope you feel better soon and you don't have any more days like today!

Love I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable today. I hope the stretching pains pass soon.

I've just found out a totally unexpected fact!! Apparently my DH hasn't had chicken pox either!?! I've never thought to ask him that before. I'd always just assumed that when we have kids, and they inevitably catch chicken pox, I was planning to go stay with my Mum for a few days and let my DH look after the DC until they're not contagious anymore. Now it turns out we're BOTH unprotected!! It's actually hilarious in addition to being terrifying! I can just see our DC coming home from nursery one day with a fever, and the next day DH and I will both be admitted to hospital!!! Not sure how we're going to get around this one...

dreamfeeder · 15/09/2011 15:55

scream, you'll probably be ok. My mum got it from us when I was 3 or 4 and my sister about 2- so she was about 34-5. She said we were very spotty but running around again pretty quickly and she was totally wiped out and really ill! But she still managed to look after us for the entire time. With effort she said!

I really don't think I'm bad enough to need IV fluids or the gp quite yet. If it's this bad tomorrow, maybe I'll go and see if they will check my urine, but if it's like last time, I will have perked up before the appointment, had a drink and be fine (and even though I was vomming in the gp loo when I went last time, I'd still drunk enough before to not have ketones in my wee, just got some cyclizine) and they will think I'm a total whinger and time-waster!!

And scarlet, if i'd known I would have the mortification of hurling into the bushes right by the children's playground in the village with an audience, there's no way I'd have taken DD to the swings!!!

love, this pregnancy business doesn't half knacker your body. You'd think they'd have thought of a better design... Hope it improves

jaggythistle · 15/09/2011 16:27

also feeling lucky to just have the permanent crappy hangover feeling as described by fishcake! Well a permanent hangover with extra weeing...

Just means i have so little motivation and so much work to do. Sitting here chatting to you is obviously helping Blush

Look after yourselves vomiters!

Hope scan was good meconium

musicalmrs · 15/09/2011 16:54

Dream, hope you're feeling better this afternoon - in every which way! Sounds like you've got a horrific bumper pregnancy symptom package.. :(

I've bled a bit more today, but not as much as yesterday.. trying to ignore it and carry on as normal! Will phone the doctor/midwife and mention it, but other than that... I suppose the best option is to move on. I don't have the hangover feeling (thankfully!), but do have something similar to Love's "1000 sit ups" - a generally odd feeling stomach at moments during the day, and currently! Also felt incredibly nauseous on the train today - thank goodness I wasn't actually sick, or that would have been messy..!

LoveInAColdClimate · 15/09/2011 17:03

All the poor vomiters and poor Musical with the stress of bleeding have it so much worse than me with my stretched muscles! I really feel for you gys. Hang in there, I felt tonnes better at about 12/13 weeks (I know this isn't always true for everyone but hopefully it will be for you).

scarletfingernail · 15/09/2011 17:12

musical sorry to hear you've had another bleed today, must leave you feeling very anxious. If it's less than yesterday that is a good sign.

dreamfeeder · 15/09/2011 17:14

oh dear, I thought I was feeling better but then I thought about making DD tea, opened the freezer to see if we had any mince in there for spag bol and was promptly sick. I really, really can't cook anything. I'm worried about what I'm going to feed DD (and DH) on for the next 6 weeks, counting on having stopped The Puking by 16 weeks, and no nausea by 18 like last time... Thank goodness DH is home, and he is trying to offer DD a meal already made and frozen but we certainly don't have enough for long unless I get cooking for her...

Last time, I seem to remember going from the puking, straight into the heartburn and awful reflux, where I'd be up most nights for hours with reflux and burning, drinking gaviscon from the bottle, then- TMI- really bad recurrent and painful thrush, that I never normally have unless I have to have antibiotics, then really bad rib pain and hip pain which would stop me sleeping. Looking back, I don't know why I didn't just quit the swimming a mile twice a week and walking daily and give myself a break!! I will this time Grin. And of course I don't plan on having any of those other issues this time. In fact, I won't be. A bit of backache is all I will allow. End of.

musical, hope you're holding up ok, bleeding is super stressful. Of course it will all be fine as we are all brooking no argument for you.

Hope you're busy celebrating your scan meconium

dreamfeeder · 15/09/2011 17:24

To add insult to injury, I've got a really red bit of my eye after leaving mn to have a puke-break just then and that better not be a burst capillary!!!! And I'm Hungry. But I just treid a snack and half a decaf brew it all came up Sad
