Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
trubble · 17/09/2011 10:16

Not much point in me doing the counting kicks as I'm not really feeling much yet - one of the joys of an anterior placenta. It's a little annoying though - I think I'd like to feel a little more just to put my mind at rest - but I guess in time I'll probably change my mind!
Not going to start mat leave until the week before Xmas. Trying to leave it as late as possible as I have so much stuff to hand over and I think Christmas should give me a good run down and things come to a natural break. Lets home jnr isn't too early!

fishandlilacs · 17/09/2011 11:12

trublle don't worry too much lovely, as long as you are feeling something and the midwives have checked the bubba over i'm sure it's fine. Such a worry though. Anterior placenta here too but it's clearly doing nothing to effect this one, i have seriosuly crap tummy muscles, all loose and free so he can quite happily slop about in there, if youre more toned I think you get less movement because your muscles do a good drop of holding bubba steady.

I start mat leave when my contracts end-10 weeks from now. 29th Nov i think, a bit early for my liking but it's all relative when youre mainly jobless. I'm hoping i'll be able to claim mat allowance otherwise it's going to be a struggling few months. I am planning to find a new job asap if I am well enough, probably around 4-5 months to start looking. Not ideal but we have little choice.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 17/09/2011 11:24

Because I'm self employed I'll be getting some kind of maternity allowance, but I'll leave it as late as possible.

Dh only gets 3 days paid leave from his work (American company) and we can;t really afford for him to take more than one week of his statutory leave, because each week he takes off loses us about £600 or more, so he's taking his 3 days, then 2 day's annual leave, then a week's paternity.

Oeisha · 17/09/2011 11:52

'ello all.

Well, it's been an eventful morning so far. Took Gadget to the vets...he's now booked in Monday for a dental. Looks likely he'll have to have teeth out :( Poor baby boy. Our finances will just have to cope. Can't have him suffering (thankfully they are insured, so if needs be I'll claim - worked for his brother).

Abi's managed a huge 60 nerfings yesterday. Not going to get too wedded to numbers, but I can now see quite why I was so instinctively worried on Wed. 60 to zero is a heck of a drop (by the time I got out of Stepping Hill it was pretty much 24h of nothing).

Re: Maternity leave. I would like to have worked for as long as possible, to give me more time off the other side, but, as I work in a supermarket, I don't much fancy working the Xmas rush. The thought of just being sat on a checkout feeling all big and uncomfy is a no...so, will be leaving ealier than ideal. I do have some leave, plus all the 1 day I would have got over Xmas...so that's about a week's worth. So, last working day will be 9th Dec if I have my maths right. That's scarily close.

scrambled Congrats on team yellow!

Mummyzoe I often feel like I have a a 'tight tummy', especially if I've eaten a lot or constipated. But not all the time. Sometimes it's jellyish and despite having an obvious bump I think it might all ust be lies.... I have been getting infrequent braxton hicks too and this feels like a very extreem form of this tightening, and everything's certainly more tense before and after a BH. Could be your bods winding up for some BHs?

Right, just realised I've not eaten anything yet thanks to the vets trip, so I'd better go prep an early lunch.

fishandlilacs · 17/09/2011 16:55

Argh. what a shit day. DH and I rowed today, I ended up in messy hormonal tears. Were fine now and it's cleared the air, we have both been working so hard. Just too much on our plates.

Spent fom 10am til 3pm sorting the spare room-that was therapeutic but knackering-it's a lot more decluttered ready for painting now. I have emtied a cabinet of junk and I have also filled said cabinet with clean washed baby clothes and sorted out 2 nappy changing things, a basket for downstairs, a fully packed changing/baby bag for hospital. I finally feel like I might have done something productive.

I broke the bloody boiler though-thankfully I took out british gas homecare last year so they are coming in the morning. I whammed a wooden box thingy we use to cover the pipes round the bottom under it and it's knocked something loose and it's leaking.

Oeisha · 17/09/2011 17:02

(((hugs))) fish. Makes my accidental spraying of bleach on to a brand new top, cat to the vets, checking finances, not sure how we can afford vets right now, poorly DH (cold) and headache seem trivial. At least we have a boiler (recently fixed post leak)!

fishandlilacs · 17/09/2011 17:13

Oeisha I hope the puddha is ok. How old is he?

I sympathise, I have ruined so many clothes the bleachy way over the years i never use the bloody stuff unless I am head to foot in scruffies.

Oeisha · 17/09/2011 17:33

fish he's fine - well, he isn't, but he's having a dental due to ulcers and receeding gums. He's only 5y/o so fairly young for a dental, but his bro went through the same thing last year. May ask them to do some testing for a few viruses as both now seem very symptomatic of FGS (when I asked about it with Giz the older, slighty more err...errr...emm... well, I got a "there there dear, I know what I'm doing" lecture. As I had DH with me I didn't challenge him). However the vet we saw today seemed not against the diet I have them on for teeth problems. Certainly makes more sense than feeding a cat cereal.

As for the top...yeah, I just picked up the wrong premade spray. Alas, I have a white ruddy sink and a DH that's incapable of taking teabags out the sink, so it always looks stained if I clean it with anything else - though I only really use it for the stain removal part, and as infrequently as poss. Serves me right for not checking the spray bottle and for not wearing an apron. Black dye will need to be purcahsed to rescue the top...or I cope with having an orange-speckled bump.

shonnomanom · 18/09/2011 08:19

Morning all! I get a tight bump as the day goes on, some days tighter than others.
I saw my 20wk with twins sister yday. I looked massive next to her! She just looks like she's put on some weight whereas iv got a ball up my top.
When officially does the 3rd trimester start?

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 18/09/2011 09:30

Shonno I get a tight bump sometimes too. And we're now just about able to figure out which side pamplemousses's head is on - (which changes a lot) as usually one side is really hard. DH still hasn't really been able to feel kicks, though I call him over everytime ppm is having a kicking session (a lot more frequent and noticeable these days Grin lovely).

I'm finishing work on Dec 16th but will be working 3 and 4 day weeks in Nov/Dec, which will make things easier. It all depends when my maternity cover will start!

GiraffeAHolic · 18/09/2011 09:43

Ok people own up, who's passing their cold around??

ghosteditor · 18/09/2011 09:50

Ooh that'd be me, sorry Grin

ghosteditor · 18/09/2011 10:01

Anyone else watching the great north run? Am being a bit jealous of all the people who can still run around, might try a v short jog around the block. But currently watching all the fund raising stories and crying my eyes out. Especially at the Red Arrows runners...

addictediam · 18/09/2011 10:30

morning all, I'm back from a lovley relaxing holiday wit my parents then a very stressfull holiday with my inlaws (only because of sil's tantrums mil and fil are on the whole very lovley). still all holiday obligations with inlaws have been fulfilled untill next september, when there will be 2 grandchildren for them to fuss over and spoil Grin and another reason for my sil to have a tantrum Sad

tightenings yes, have been getting them for the past 3 weeks (so from about 17wks) was the same last time too.

giraffe dd has got an awful cold, so if you find the culprit send them this way to look after a grumpy teething, now full of cold baby please.

i have my 20 wk scan tomorrow, and will hopefully find out which team i am joining, i'm actually really excited to see bump again.

Nanny01 · 18/09/2011 13:19

MOrning every one, good luck for every one having a scan next week.

Colds have finaly made it to our house and there is 6 of us that can potentially get it so have sent dh to stock up on calpol and lemsip to treat the sick with. My eldest son said oh no school for me tomorrow till I told him that the common cold is a reason for staying at home. Was really hoping not to get poorly but it feels the cold has it's grasp on me just in time for Monday morning.

No maternity allowance for me as I am a house wife but I am looking forward to more child benefit and hoping the government don't take it away from us the following year. We really rely on it as there is one income to feed and cloth us all. Dh thinks they won't take it away as now the ceiling in which it effects people is lower so it will effect people on lower incomes.

Mum2be79 · 18/09/2011 16:53

Complete change of subject!

We've just been awarded planning permission for a kitchen extension with a sunken balcony from our bedroom on top. So excitedly off we popped to the following kitchen retailers: Wren, Howdens, Wickes and of course, B & Q. Though still waiting on a price via our tradesman fro Howdens, we've got quotes from B & Q and Wickes. Naturally being an extension we want a good kitchen to last so 'naturally' I pick the dearest ones! Confused

We plumped for B & Q's Cooke and Lewis range (Carisbrooke cream) and were quoted £15,950. Hmm, over our budget but we know we'd get it in the sale for half price (as 1st quoted back in January and promised that likelihood it will happen again is very strong).

Today we went to Wickes, who I'd thought would be cheaper [shocked]. How wrong we were!!!!!! We got a quote for the Heritage Bone ...

£34,500!!!!!!!

I bought my first house for only £3,000 more!!!!!

Naturally, palpitations, shock, sweat beads dripping down foreheads ensued. We've come back down to Earth (with a hard bump) and are now having to:

  1. Readjust the kitchen budget
  2. Re-think the kitchen plan
  3. Rob a bank!
  4. Wait until the right deal comes along ... even if this means coping with half a kitchen (our old one) and an empty extension shell.
  5. Start playing the lottery.

I reckon on option number 3 ...

Oeisha · 18/09/2011 17:59

mum2be Gz on the planning permission. But, yeah, that bank robbery, I'll join you...anyone else in?

addicted and any other mums&bumps due for scans...good luck! Grin Sooo exciting...

Bloody awkward day. Luckily had pg line manager in who was frankly angry at the shit I'm constantly left to deal with level of contant disorganisation and lack of forethought about Sundays. I think I may have an ally there... Think there's going to be some changes too. As soon as I go on leave they're screwed if they don't sort it (many more like today and MW/GP will just sign me off early leaving them even more stuffed...either that or DH will just tie me down to stop me). If only I had a direct line manager to talk to...hopefully the 'next in command' (think of them like Piccard's "No.1") will be about Monday, so I can talk to them.

fishandlilacs · 18/09/2011 18:04

Mum2b Homebase have a 30% weekend on right now. Are you anywhere nr stroud, Glouc? if so pop in and see my dad, he's the kitchen and bathroom salesman for them there. He'd do you a good deal.

mummyzoe2012 · 18/09/2011 19:12

the tightness in my tummy seams to be getting worse, its lasting all day now think if it continues i might be popping to see the midwife at the drop in session or ringing her up.

got a new car about 6 months ago and had it into the garage about eh handbreak and its still rolling back a wee bit when i put it on so my car is back in tuseday hope i have it back by friday oz i want my car for my bday dnt want a courtisey car that is not even the same model as what ive got ive got a ix35 and they want me to have a i10 or i20 which are a lot smaller and only a 3 door where my car is huge

Oeisha · 18/09/2011 19:55

mummyzoe Def. go see MW, the nagging feeling in your noggin must be causing background worry, so def.

Re: car frustrations. I can see why that's frustrating. Give them a deadline, then start taxing them a "stupidity tax"/compensation....or do what I did with getting my internet connection repaired, get the phone number of someone relatively senior, give them a deadline, then phone them on the hour, every hour until you get your car back...
...it didn't feel too unjustified when they did it as I was mid-dissertation write up and I KNEW it was just laziness on their behalf that it didn't get fixed in 10mins. Oddly after 3 hours it was fixed after 3 days of nothing...and I got given 2 months free access...

After a VERY quiet day (3 nerfing whilst at work vs the 13 yesterday - day off- and 20 over same period Fri - though only half of Fri was working), Abi's making up for her stillness. Already hit 13nerfings in 2h. Might just show work the movements monitoring I have been doing and scare them a bit...they're not going to realise it's not something 'normal' pregnant women do...but does illustrate quite nicely that whilst I'm not finding it mentally all that stressful (just baffled by the lack of organisation), it is physically draining.

shonnomanom · 18/09/2011 21:53

Mummyzoe: their having a laugh, 4days to fix a handbrake! Dp is a mechanic and said even if they are really really busy they shouldn't have it for more than a day.

I'm in for the bank robbery.

Think I'm getting a cold too. Feeling really lousy and horrible. But without out the normal cold nose etc. Since having the flu JAG in the spring iv jot had a full on cold just the horrible feeling you get with it.

Good pick to this weeks scanners!

OP posts:
mummyzoe2012 · 18/09/2011 22:30

they have said that they are not sure how long they will have it in for but im not going to drive it away unless im 100% happy its fixed this time.

if it goes again within months like it has this time im going to demand a new car off them coz its not safe with baby on the way what if it fales and the car rolles off with ame in it. do you guys think im being unreasonable there?

Oeisha · 18/09/2011 22:48

Nope...not unreasonable at all mummyzoe

shonno I hope you aren't getting a cold! And nanny I hope you get better soon. Am waiting to hear about the flu jab from my doctors surgery.

I'm getting an aching pain close to my hip-joints - been on and off for a while now. I'm sure it's just things stretching out a bit, but it's irritating me today. Did spend an unreasonable amount of time in my feet at work, but it wasn't really hurting then, it's only after I've been resting with my loverly Bo-Bar-kitty on my lap (I've gone all soppy and worried about his surgery tomorrow), and if I have a nap...
Anyone else getting this?

miamama09 · 19/09/2011 09:14

mum2be - we had B&Q out on Friday for a kitchen quote, no planning permission req'd, but the guy told us they have 20% off until this Friday, taking huge chunk out of the cost.

GiraffeAHolic · 19/09/2011 09:24

I'm in on the bank robbery, could do with extra pennies for christmas :)

25 weeks today, how quick is this going??

Good luck to all those having scans, I can't believe I'm not going to see CM-RD anymore until he/she arrives, doesn't seem 5 minutes since the second blue line appeared.
