ChocaMum · 13/09/2011 13:24

Hello everyone! What a busy thread!

We are going to have baby with us for 6 mo so haven't done any decorating at all, although we do need to decide about what to do when DS is 6 mo, move him into DD's room and move DD into spare room, or move them both into spare room together??? Oh well, 10 months till we get there I guess to work out what to do with all our rubbish in the spare room!

makescakes I'm having loads of BH, bit scary. But they really catch me out and make me need to sit down, bit strange feeling them so early when it was about 2 weeks before DD was born that I got them last time. It's all normal apparently though!

miamama good luck at your appointment. If it was that bad last time they should rwally let you have an ELCS, the emotional trauma is definitely a reason for ELCS and a third of women have caesareans in the uk anyway so there's no need for them to push VBAC on somebody who feels so upset about it all.

Anybody now have an outy belly button now? DD is fascinated by mine!

Oh and at the bank this morning I was asked if I'm counting down the days, when I replied I'm due early January the lady replied 'oh my gosh you're huge already!' thanks so much, not that I had been worrying about how big I was anyway!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/09/2011 13:41

No outy belly button here, and the BH seem to have stopped, and didn't make me feel that weird anyway.

I feel constantly hungry atm. I'm like Pacman - chomp chomp chomp constantly.

x

choca you've got to love the unfortunate comments people make. I know from my past experience as a not-very-interested-in-babies friend that it's easy to say the wrong thing by accident just by way of trying to sound interested. Having said that, I'd love to be brave enough to say to people 'yes, I'm due in January - but what's your excuse for the extra weight?'. I would never be that rude though Grin

I just got back from an NHS physio class for mid-pregnancy where I briefly met another MN-er which was fun! The class was a bit odd though - there was no real explanation of what it was about in advance but I was expecting a run down of good exercises and things to avoid etc. Instead it was a (sometimes quite interesting) set of musings/Q&As from the head physio about the importance of endorphins rather than adrenalin in labour, advice about prams, cribs, bedding, travel systems etc. A few people were only there because they're already having sciatica and pain so I think they were a bit surprised too. Fortunately (as you may have gathered), I'm not backwards about coming forwards so I just asked what I wanted to ask anyway. I did pick up some more interesting thoughts about why being flat on your back is inadvisable for labour and a few bits and pieces I didn't know, it was just... not what I was expecting I guess...

supadupapupascupa · 13/09/2011 14:15

just found out today that there are no NHS anti-natal classes in Lincoln!!!! MW said the Sure Start do them, Sure Start don't!! apparently it is a bit of a saga....

what the hell do we do?

there is only NTC and they are fully booked....so tough shit then hey? I really anted to attend a breastfeeding class too Sad

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/09/2011 14:21

That sucks! Did you want to do the classes to meet people or to actually find out stuff? Could you find an active childbrith class (or similar) instead? Or a social group to meet people?
Good luck, anyway.

Does anyone else hate this long period of no MW, no GP? It's going to be October before I have any other healthcare stuff and I like checking in with someone to make sure everything is going OK. I know I know, I'm a hypochondriac.

ghosteditor · 13/09/2011 14:25

supa that's ante-natal not anti-natal - would love to go turn up to an anti-natal class while pg though Grin Grin Grin

On a serious note that's rubbish for you though - have you checked with your MW? Mine runs a few classes that I would never have known about unless she told me. Probably worth checking with NCT that they can't add you to a waiting list etc too? Also have you tried La Leche League for local classes on breastfeeding? I don't know anything about them expect that my local group is quite active.

Hope you find something. Being all type A as I am, I love a good class Wink

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/09/2011 14:31

I just like meeting people - I'm not very good with my own company. Social butterfly. Mind you, I do like knowing the answers in a class, so might be a tad type A...

miamama09 · 13/09/2011 15:11

makescakes totally know what you mean about the wait before the next midwife appointment. Mine not until November!, just after my anti D injection. I have the consultant to see tomorrow, but won't get to hear heartbeat or anything.

I suppose we just have to rely on the baby kicking us to pieces in the coming weeks to put our minds at ease!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/09/2011 16:00

At least we have that comfort - don't you love feeling it kicking? I never realised I would enjoy pregnancy so much.

Oeisha · 13/09/2011 18:08

Not loving the 2-4am kicking that last 90mins... But it IS nice to know she's ok. Otherwise I love the kicking, but try not to think about a ft of baby bing IN THERE, can freak me out a bit sometimes.

Re: belly buttons. Still an inny, just...

supa lack of classes sucks! I'm guessing you're not near another LHA to request them through there?

makescakes yup. Disliking the waits. My next MW apt is 5th Oct. Feels like forever away...yet Xmas feels soo close...

greenlady78 · 13/09/2011 18:28

Thanks everyone for sending so much positive energy this way! Smile

oiesha that seems a lot like my nipples and yes they have been a bit dry and might have found one strech mark on it this morning and almost cried!!! I know, pathetic...then I thought about my beautiful healthy baby and thought I was being super, really pathetic and embraced it Grin (ok, but let's stop at one) :P

bighot love the plum story, sorry, couldn't help but have a giggle with it! Hope you do not mind :)

makescakes - i know the Pacman feeling! By the way, I was told by a lady in my yoga class that we are supposed to go and see a GP at 22 weeks?! So I booked to see her and well, let's see if she tells me I am being just nuts or what!

Congrats all around on the new scans!!!! Names have been hard to choose but we have 4 months left, right?

Also slightly jealous of people managing to do nurseries, etc...we rent so cannot do anything to walls, really booooooo!!!!!

ParsleyLion1 · 13/09/2011 18:46

I think it depends on where you are and what level of care you are on. I'm on shared care due to elderliness so I had consultant at 20 wks, scan at 20 wks, repeat scan due to excess squiggling at 23 wks, consultant again at 24 wks, gp at 25 wks, glucose test at 28 wks and mw at 28 wks. Luckily work are being ok about it and if all ok at 24 wks I can go back to mw care.
I'm feeling a bit of overkill at the moment though I suppose I'd rather that than wait so long inbetween. Smile

supadupapupascupa · 13/09/2011 18:57

well I have discovered that the NCT is full and that some sure start centers DO do the classes, just that ours doesn't. I called the next nearest and she doesn't sound hopeful but going to check if we can join there. No le leche in lincoln either.
it's my Dc2 so I've done the classes before, but what about the women who haven't? I'm fuming to be honest! I can't believe I am the first person to kick up a fuss and get the information!!

anti-natal Grin blummin' feels like it!

Off to read the rest of the thread now.....

fishandlilacs · 13/09/2011 19:04

Bighot and miamama good luck at your appointment. I do actually think you eed to be super strong about what you want-NHS cutback means that across the board they are pushing vbac really hard. I'm still fighting my corner and yet to see my new consultant and the consultant vbac midwife for vbac clinic (21st oct). Heres me ticking every at risk box against vbac, i'm old, i'm fat, I had a complicated birth last time, I had spd last time, did not progress in labour last time, my child is showing to be huge on the centile charts, the backing of the postnatal psychiatric team, psychiatric reports and the backing of the community midwife team and I'm STILL having to argue the toss over it with the hospital. As yet I do not have a c section booked. So I wish you both the very best of luck, if vbac is what you want then go for it, if it's a c section then stand your ground. I heard a phrase I wish I had used in my first appointment "I insist on having a ELCS" repeat ad infinitum.

In other news, my clothes seem to be going well on ebay and we have started the big sort out to make inroads into sorting out the bedrooms. if this stuff sells on ebay i may even be able to afford some paint :)

fishandlilacs · 13/09/2011 19:10

I'm chuckling at my own pun Grin "pushing vbac really hard" Grin

and for all you ladies worrying about your stretchmarks and expanding waistlines read this, have a little weep and have a little smile.

I love this twitpic.com/52m4c4

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/09/2011 19:44

No stretchmarks here (yet!) but I do have a few visible veins and possible thread veins on the sides of my tummy. Do;t mind them too much as they're minute, but I have been inspecting myself carefully in dread anticipation.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/09/2011 19:47

And that link was absolutely beautiful. Thank you.

Deesus · 13/09/2011 20:01

Pregnancy has turned my into a complete dewy-eyed wetso. Just had a lil cry at that link...Blush

GiraffeAHolic · 13/09/2011 20:05

I hope all you ladies manage to convince the 'powers that be' to let you have the births that you want. Surely if you've already had one child, you know what you are physically/mentally/emotionally/practically capable of. I had a rough time with dd (52 hour labour Shock) but amazingly the thought of a CS fills me with dread, but I believe you should be able to birth your baby in the way you see fit.

I am sooo confused about nursery decorating, we had chosen the Starry Night range from Toys R Us and I have that moses basket as I fell in love with it. Thing is the wallpapers going to cost £60 to do the very small room.

Then I stupidly google imaged pictures of decorated nurseries Grin

Now wondering whether to paint the walls mint green, see what wall space is visible around the furniture and possibly get some wall decals.

I don't know what to do about ante-natal classes, I didn't go with dd due to a combination of SPD and car problems. Is it normal to attend with subsequent dc's? Even if just to meet local people as we are relatively new to the area.

Mum2be79 · 13/09/2011 20:31

I have my 25 week appointment a week tomorrow and will ask about ante-natal classes then. I think I saw a poster on the wall at York District so I'm pretty hopefully.

My colleague sold me her: baby bouncer, baby carrier, play mat and gym, breast pump and bottle insulators for £40 today. (carrier and pump and one bottle insulator never used, still in box). Feel quite proud of the good deal I bagged.

Lots of positive comments at work. I'm blooming, looking healthy and seem to have only put on bump weight (which apparently is very neat and tidy!) :)

I'm not touching the Nursery until I go on Mat Leave on 2nd December. That can be my project. Although I will need to clear it a bit as I'm lucky to open the door! Very pleased about the 250+ nappies I now have - some newborn up to 11lbs and some midi. DH nearly choked. "Does it really poop THAT much????"

fishandlilacs · 13/09/2011 20:55

ah ha gotcha :) I knew it would have some of you blubbing :) (cruel heartless witch emoticon)

It is beautiful isn't it, very wholesome and reminds you of whats it's really about being a woman.

Oeisha · 13/09/2011 21:03

redhead Good luck with your long-fought for scan, and good luck to any others I've missed.

Re: Stretch marks. I got stretchmarks everywhere (boobs, inner and outer thigh, tum) after a period of rather rapid weightgain, so I know I'm likely to get them, though at least my old ones are nice and pale, and being semi-vampire I don't tan for them to show up. Am using Palmer's Cocoa Butter on bump, thighs and boobs, but, well, we'll see. Not holding out much hope though.

mum2be crikey! That's a lorra nappies... At the moment I'm planning on disposables until I'm less freaked out (maybe 4 weeks worth) and I know what Abi's 'regular' is like, and then hoping to switch to cloth from there. Not sure which style yet...will have to see if she's a front wetter or a back wetter...

RE: antental classes. Only got the NHS ones here. NCT are rubbish in terms of courses here...they're now not running the Jan one in Glossop at all, even if I did want to go - it did rather defeat the 'local' aspect of the course as that's about 30mins away by car and not exactly ideal to 'nip' to for coffee. Feb class for Buxton is fairly obv. going to be too late!

shonnomanom · 13/09/2011 21:26

Aw that was a lovely poem. We call my stretch marks Dd's graffitti. She is quite proud of them Smile She done such a good job on my stomach that its hard to tell between the old and the new.

Here, we are scheduled for a mw visit between 22 and 24weeks. Between hospital and mw we are seen every 4 weeks on average.

Iv been feeling really uncomfortable this evening. Not sure if its trapped wind or not. Just cant get confortable. And yes I too could give pacman a run for his money these days. But mostly sweet things if im honest.

Good luck on tommorrows scan!!!!

OP posts:
ParsleyLion1 · 13/09/2011 21:28

I've got the same issue with the NCT classes as you Oeisha - there are 3 towns grouped together by the NCT where I live 2 of which are in walking distance for me but the classes are in the 3rd town about 20 - 25 mins drive away so there won't be any locals.

I'm doing the NHS class but it is a 1 day Saturday workshop only.

redheadbedhead · 14/09/2011 07:50

Hi everyone, just spent half an hour catching up on the thread cos I couldn't sleep.

I booked the only NCT class with spaces left in my area, they sell out so fast!!! I wanted to go weekly but the only one left was two WHOLE DAYS!!!! (and a BF class). Sounds like it won't be quite as good as weekly for getting to know people but I suppose it's better than nothing. Sorry all you ladies having problems getting on a course, must be really annoying Sad

If it's any help I know that some doulas run courses privately which are probably very informative and useful if that's what you need, but you obviously wouldn't get to meet people. Altho I think some run independent classes too.

re: stretch marks, my mum rang up the other day and said she'd bought me some oil for my belly as she 'didn't want me getting stretchmarks' because she never had them but she's 'seen them on other women and they look hideous'!!!!!!!!!! Nice. What an idiotic thing to say. I told her I didn't mind whether I got them or not and thanked her very sweetly and politely for the oil.... Should send her that link!! made me cry too!!

I am actually finding the extra contact with my mum around the baby news very tricky - trying to strike a balance between being polite and grateful for any help and being as firm as I can when she keeps giving me 'advice' which is more like 'orders'. We have never really got on and she has taken this opportunity to get extra involved which is hard.... making me a bit stressed to be honest.

Anyway onto better things - got my scan at 12pm today, so am SUPER EXCITED Grin Grin Grin can't wait to see the Piglet and check out whether its got lady bits or boy bits Grin

Anyone else scanning today? Good luck if so Grin
