Hello Ses, how is the bump coming along? Well i hope.
The last month really has just been so stressful it is untrue. First there was the problems I had with DD2's birth. This had left her with wet lungs (dont know if i told you all the ins and outs of it all.) which wouldn't have been a problem except that she caught broncilitus. We were sent to hospital by ambulance when the hv was concerned about her breathing (I thought the problem was a blocked nose, she had been bad for a couple of days. What a great mummy I am!!!! NOT)......
When we arrived we were on a normal ward and dd was put on oxygen and given steroids to help her lungs. The following day mark came in after dropping dd1 off at school. He got a phone call while he was there from work, so left ds with me and went into work as dd2 seemed ok. However two hours later l looked at her and she had gone really white and her lips were blue. Her alarms were going off and the room filled with nurses. Her lungs had failed. She was still breathing but no air was getting into her lungs as she couldnt inflate them. Her oxygen levels had dropped to an alarming rate and she was wisked off to the high dependency unit.
I followed trying not to alarm ds. She was put on a machine that breathed for her and i was told that the next few hours were critical and that they had a intensive care team from st thomas's hospital in london on stand by because she may need to be taken to specialist until there. Thankfully she wasn't but she was very very poorly. She was on so many machines, her veins had collapsed at one point so drip was in her arms, it was just awful and she was only two weeks old...
She was in HDU for 8 days, I couldn't cuddle her or feed her. I couldn't see DD1 as she had a cold and wasn't aloud in. It was awful..... She seems fine now though apart from a bad eye that has a bug in it. The staff were amazing in hospital and really helped dp and I at the worst point they aloud both of us to sleep there which was against the rules but they knew how serious things were. She has a wheeze but specialist said that should go as her lungs grow and she has a shaddow on her left lung but they believe that this is fluid rather than any perminant damage. So all in all she is one strong little girl.
I thought I was coping well, but it seems not and the last week I have been a mess. I have even bought an alarm for the mosses basket that goes off if she stops breathing because I was waking her all the time checking she was still breathing.... I have turned into a nurotic mother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I will be fine in time and the most important thing is that she is better and fighting fit.
DP's company is doing really well and he now has a week off so really looking forward to the help as DD2 is feeding every hour or so just for about 5 mins. This is because she gets so tired and just zonkes out. hospital told us to expect this for a couple of weeks as she has not been feeding orally for so long that the effort of feeding will tire her out... What it didn't tell us is that it will give her massive Green sludgy poos...
Blimey that was a bit of a me me post wasnt it.... hope I havent ruined your mood on such a festive day xxx
