Ginger - that sounds really tough Sad. I don't know if this helps at all but my niece was very like that and it peaked during her 'terrible two' stage. Now she is 3.5 and is still very much a daddy's girl - runs to him for cuddles as soon as he gets home, asks him to put her to bed etc - but if she is told mummy is doing it she doesn't mind and she is much much more affectionate with her mum now. I can't remember exactly when it changed, sorry.

What do you/DH do when she is asking for daddy to help her? DD is more of a mummys girl and will run to me first but we have been very strict about taking turns with bathtime/bedtime etc and if daddy is putting her to bed or helping her with her dinner and she demands me we say no. If she makes a fuss or cries we leave her to it or DP just carries her upstairs and sticks her in bed. I always say I don't want to cuddle her/play with her while she is being mean to daddy and I usually give DP a cuddle instead. It might be a bit harsh but it has upset DP in the past when she has only wanted me so I wanted her to know that she can't just demand I do things and leave DP out. I do feel bad for DP if he is trying to put her to bed and she is crying for mummy but it doesn't happen often now she knows she won't get her own way - that might all change as she gets into the tantruming stage and once DC2 is here!!!

Ses - you didn't sound hormonal or unsympathetic at all. You were much more patient that I would have been! In saying that I know how tough it is when you are stressed and miserable at work so I hope he finds something else soon. I hope you get to hear the hb at your appt today Smile, I'm really looking forward to seeing the midwife next week and hearing beanies hb for the first time.

Oh, boss has just walked in so better dash and look busy Wink. Be back later to catch up properly.

Rugbylovingmum · 29/11/2011 10:07

ginger - hope that didn't sound a bit like a lecture Blush, I'm no expert. Just letting you know what we have tried and it seems to be working so far.

GingerbreadLatte · 29/11/2011 11:33

Thanks Rugby- not a lecture at all.

My DH spends a lot of time telling her its not on and getting her to come to apologise to me when she shouts/pushes me/ is rude. So there are some boundaries there. I do think maybe you have point about day to day stuff. We probably do give in if she is just asking for daddy to get her out of the car etc- for ease. Sometimes she is fine with it but othertimes we do just default to her sitting with daddy in a restuarant etc. We will give the taking turns thing a go I think. :) thank you.
I am so upset by this as its gone on for ages now. Its hard to address...

SESthebrave · 29/11/2011 16:47

Giraffe - sounds really tough on you but it is something that will pass I'm sure. Rugby has given some great advice and don't be hard on yourself!

Consultant's appointment has made me Sad
You may remember I had to have a CS with DS as he was oblique lie. As soon as they confirmed it at 39+4, they kept me in hospital and did the CS at 39+6.
Consultant said it was v unusual to have an oblique lie without either previously having had 5 or 6 babies (watch out Diege for next time Wink ) or fibroids or strange shape uterus or cysts. Consultant thanked me for making his job interesting Grin and then pointed out the vast majority of women who've had oblique lie will go on to have further oblique lies. He said they will continue to monitor me and if at 36wks this one is oblique, they will arrange for me to go into hospital at 37wks and wait it out!!!

I am feeling v frustrated and just have to hope that by some miracle this one is not oblique and I get my VBAC.

I phoned DH and told him. He's obviously not having much if a better day. He just said that he couldn't do anything about it and we'd have to deal with whatever happens nearer the time. That's such a bloke's response isn't it?!

Anyway, that's my second offload in 2 days. Sorry ladies Blush

Hi Ses
I am sorry the appt didnt go as you had hoped. I suppose its useful to have the information early on so you can adjust to the prospect.

Have you looked up any approaches to move an oblique baby around? Maybe there are some practices that can be done as self help? I think your DH's reaction is probably fairly standard - though he could have been a bit more tactful maybe....FWIW, I think mine would say the same- worry about it later. Think its a different experience for the dads, they dont really see birth in the same way or get so attached early on.

You can talk to us about it :)

Thanks for comments re DD. Its just been building and building and it went too far today. If its a phase its a very long one!

xx

Moosy · 29/11/2011 18:18

Ginger, DD1 used to be the same - she'd always want daddy, she'd scream at me and push me away and it did really upset me so I know exactly how you feel. When DD2 was born it was very handy as she didn't feel pushed out, she could stick with daddy and she didn't get jealous of the baby having cuddles and attention from me all the time. As DD2 got older and they could play together a bit she seemed to unlatch from dh and became more balanced between the 2 of us. Now she's headstrong independent and confident, wants occassional cuddles from either/both of us but isn't super clingy to either. Hopefully your DD will grow out of it, but if not, use it to your advantage when DC2 arrives! Wink

Ses, your DH sounds like mine - when he's grumpy/ill/stressed it's the end of the world, when it's me that's struggling it's tough luck Hmm. I think it's fairly normal man behaviour and I shouldn't read too much into it, hopefully the break from work will do him good. His reaction to the oblique news sounds pretty standard too, and he does have a point, you do have to wait and see what happens but sometimes you just want sympathy not advice and that's what we're for! Have some wagon brownies and a sneaky wagon hug :)

Star, sorry about your DH's nan :( How are you enjoying unemployment?

SESthebrave · 29/11/2011 19:39

Thanks guys. DH was in a better mood when DS and I got home. He even asked to look at my maternity notes Grin
I think he was cheered slightly by the fact that another couple of companies have asked for his CV. One for a job in Oman and one for a job in Dubai Hmm
Let's hope the London based one tomorrow works out!

GingerbreadLatte · 30/11/2011 07:21

Thanks Moosy- its good to hear that it can turn around. Its really awful feeling- mainly because its been building and building and yesterday was final straw. The way she said just leave me alone felt so loaded and like I was just annoying her... I had considered your point regarding a DC2 and it meaning I will be able BF a bit more easily... Knowing her, she will choose that moment to change her allegiance Grin

How are things with you Moosy- are you very busy in the run up to xmas?

Ses- glad DH has had some job options come up and is a bit more interested in the baby situation :)

GingerbreadLatte · 30/11/2011 07:24

PS- I do have to get pregnant first though :)

Moosy · 30/11/2011 09:54

I've got 15 Christmas cakes to decorate (plus one for us), it's DH's birthday today, DD3's next week and I haven't started the Christmas shopping yet, but apart from that I'm super relaxed! Wink

DD2 was a bugger to feed and DD1 not being clingy did help :) Are you on the 2ww now Ginger, I've lost track?

GingerbreadLatte · 30/11/2011 11:54

Arrgh thats a lot of work- but it sounds under control :)

I would be almost on 2ww except we are having a months break for various reasons. We will back in the saddle (!) next month.... i have to say there is element of relief knowing we have some time out, and that is after only 3 cycles ! I hadnt realised how full on ttc really is...it takes over everyhting.

Kayzr · 30/11/2011 13:00

Ginger, I'm sorry about DD. I can't give you any advice really. DS2 can be like it with DP but I think it might have more to do with him being away and do finds it fun to spend his time following DP everywhere.

Moosy, I've got one cake to decorate and still not sure when I'll find the time! You must be super woman.

I'm 11 weeks today and it seems to be going so slowly. I've got my scan next Wednesday.

Hope everyone is ok!

warmandcosyhellokitty · 30/11/2011 14:18

hi ladies - ses - sorry appmnt didnt go as well but at least u know what nite happen

moosy - good luck with cakes
kay - hope next week goes quicker

have girls at home today because of industrial strike

Moosy · 30/11/2011 14:54

Ginger, having written all that yesterday I've now noticed that DD3 is getting very daddy-y, there will be no DD4 to fix her though! Shock hoping it's just a phase....

Diege · 30/11/2011 15:12

Hello! All still pretty under the weather here with very heavy colds, so apologies for not being on! I have been reading but struggling now to remember who said what....
SES, on the transverse thing, I've researched a lot about this as ds1 was tranverse until the very end (and then went from head down to oblique in labour, as did ds2). From what I gather, the more babies you have, the more chances of them having an 'unstable lie' in pregnancy, but there is nothing I've read to suggest that they remain tranverse until term (ie, the same principle which means babies will move about freely until 38 wks or so means too that they be able to turn head down too). I also read a really good article that said they're starting to think now that transverse/oblique breech babies are so not necessarily due to the woman, but because these are the positions the babies themselves suit best (the author (a midwife) was quite cross about the spinning babies website etc as it infers it's down to the woman what position her baby ends up in - more blame!. I certainly don't see why you couldn't try for a vbac - obviously if transverse at term, you'll need a section, but more of a wait-and-see case? Def don;t accept the once transverse always transverse thing!!!
I must go as ds squarking and dds at home too - I am on strike too though in the very fortunate position of not losing a day's pay as on maternity leave! If the govs plans for my pension stand, I will be paying an extra £200 a month, on top of the £200 I already pay in, to get less and work for longer! May as well have hidden it under the bleedin' mattress!!! Hmm

SESthebrave · 30/11/2011 15:26

Hello!

Moosy - I've still got my cake to make nevermind ice and that's only 1!! If you lived closer, you'd probably be getting an extra order so that I didn't have to do it myself Grin

Ginger - I was also wondering where you are in your cycle !) I agree some time out is good and relaxing and helps with perspective :)

tink - have you done anything nice today with both girls? It's a bit miserable here weather wise so not the best day for it probably!

I'm sort of getting my head round potential oblique lie and also reminding myself of the fact that it might not happy . Just not what I'd "planned" (as much as you can plan anything around ttc, pg and giving birth!)

DH is currently at his job interview so got everything crossed. We had another chat this morning and he really wants to just hand his notice in at work, even though he's not got another job sorted yet Shock
The thing is, that he's on a 6 month notice period which doesn't really please prospective employers Hmm However it would be just such a huge risk to take that step without anything else sorted out.

X-posted with Diege there as I was building a railway and putting a casserole in the oven at the same time!
Thanks though as that really helps. I do wonder whether O just liked that position as he stayed pretty much in the same place for the last 3 months (I could feel his head (that they told me was his bum) sticking out my side!)

OP posts:
Diege · 30/11/2011 15:49

Hi SES! Very Envy of your casserole making - think it's fish ans chips for us tonight!
Realised my ref to baby posoition preference didn;t make that much sense re: your original concerns. Meant to conclude that if we accept baby preferences play a major role in positioning, then this would imply (as does the author) that no two pregnancies are alike and your current baby may well favour head down etc etc..
Good luck for you dh too - agree that handing in notice does seem a little rash. Hopefully just a 'fantasy' and not something he would act on!

LebkuchenStars · 30/11/2011 19:56

Evening all. Glad you've had some good advice on here about. Baby's lie Ses. I know nothing, so can't help - glad others can. Your day sounds very similar to ours - built DS' Thomas track and road this morning and had casserole for lunch - I love casserole - do it early, shove in the oven, wash up and there's hardly anything to do later! Plus, the DC wolf it down - DD even had more for tea Grin.
We used the strike day to put up Christmas decs (sorry Moosy) Wink - the DC loved it and DH likes the fact that someone else gets as excited as me. Also managed to get the living room cleaned first - how do all those toys/pencils/stickers end up under the sofa?!
Ginger - sorry can't advise re DD - if it helps at all, since DD has hit the terrible twos, she is capable of the most almighty tantrums where she lashes out at me and nothing I do is right (mostly to do with her being indePendent and wanting her own way). My favourite was where I told her off at dinner and she started crying, saying "I want Daddy"... DS turned to me and said "She asks for you when you're not here" Grin - I know it's not the same, but thought it might make you smile. It's only been the last 6 months where DH can put her to bed if I'm here... That was down to just forcing the issue and her having no choice more regularly as I've been travelling. I hope some of the other advice helps/reassures.
Diege - hope your fish&chips was good.
Right - must get on with washing up and Christmas card writing (every year I say I'll have them all written by end November and here we are ... 30 November again!
My last day of officially being employed today! As of tomorrow, I'm a housewife/SAHM Grin - blimey the budget is going to be tight, but am enjoying it so far!
Fingers crossed for DH's interview outcome Ses. Is really horrible being in a job you don't enjoy (was this a UK based one today?). Hope he's more relaxed this evening - 6 months is a heck of a long notice period - is it negotiable at all?

SESthebrave · 30/11/2011 20:25

Star - Sounds like very similar days! Casserole is always easier than I think it's going to be and yes, DS demolished his for tea :)

Diege - fish and chips does sound good as well though and I'm tempted to get some in the next few days.
Oh and yay for striking but not losing pay! I have to say the more I hear about the strike, the more I support it.

DH came home and said that he thought the interview had gone well. It was for a London based job (or so we thought) but they said there was something in London but they're also having a big recruitment drive for overseas - Oman Hmm It seems that that part of the world is going through major expansion in airports so that where the work is. DH is hoping to hear something back within the week.

I've come to have a mini rant now. I've still got a sore throat. So I went to the dr as I've had it a while now. He was useless. He said get some halls soothers, drink warm drinks and stay away from pregnant women and babies. I'm unsure how to stay away from myself and we're going to Bristol tomorrow specially to meet our new niece. I know they won't want me near her when I'm like this. Sad

I just would like to stop coughing now. Sad

warmandcosyhellokitty · 01/12/2011 20:40

kay - sore throats r awful

cantmummyhaveabreak · 04/12/2011 16:25

wow. very quiet on here of late.

Food Show was fab, kids loved watching masterchef live! Seeing Gregg Wallace & John Torrode was probably their highlight of the day, but we also watched Saturday Kitchen which was good, both had their hands up to sit at the table, but they were only picking adults, even though it was family day, they were a bit :(

Have got a bit of a migraine today, it's starting to get worse. Was supposed to be making a proper tea but i'm really not up to it so I think my solution is to have pizza fingers as they are very easy to make. DH is on his way home now too, so he could even do it, so easy for him to do too. :)

Ses- sorry to hear about positioning problems that could arise, but as we all know all pregnancies are different, lets just hope this one prefers to be head down :)

Ginger- DD's clingy-ness to her daddy sounds really tough to deal with. All 3 of ours have always been more for mummy, but I know DH said a few times how he felt a bit 'unwanted'... so he started doing bedtime every night that he's home in time to. It has helped loads, but if he works a few late shifts and i have to do bedtime then DD2 gets used to it and doesn't like him doing it the next time and will sometimes ask for me, sometimes i cave just for an early bedtime, but it's helped all of them in spending time with DH other than just at bedtime. :)

right i'm feeling really bad after looking at the laptop for so long. only came on as i had to do something. :)

festivehellokitty · 04/12/2011 18:27

hi cant

foodshow sounds great Grin
me and dh luv masterchef
