Rugby It seems very strange to go to Asda for bloods!

Still feeling rotten, trying to force myself to eat some crumpets.

If anyone has any free time and/or bored can you look at my baby name thread here I know I am only 5 weeks but would like to have a good idea of names already.

bumpsnowjustplump · 18/10/2011 18:15

Well good and bad news today. I am so worried I am litterally crying and all the hca's seem to just be brushing my fears under the carpet..

Baby is not breach but is weighing in at a whooping 8lb6 already. I am 37+4 today so still have potentially 4.5 weeks to go. I am also carrying huge amounts of fluid. I have a consultants appointment tomorrow to discuss things and i am going to beg to be induced early but have been warned that she probably wont want to do that.

I cant believe it DD was 8lb 4 and i really stuggled with her and needed help ds was 8lb 12 and I needed help with him as well and if I go over then this baby has the potential to be 11lb...

Any tips on what to say to get early induction hugely appriciated right now..

Kayzr · 18/10/2011 18:20

Bloody hell Bumps, thats big. I have heard that growth scans can be 1lb out either way but its still really big. Shoulder dystocia is one thing you could talk about, when the baby's shoulder gets stuck and they can't get out properly. I almost had it with DS2.

They have got to really consider inducing you if the baby is going to be so big.

Diege · 18/10/2011 18:46

Don't panic BUMPS, as KAYZ says growth scans are notoriously inaccurate, especailly after 32 weeks. My consultant today said they can be 1.5lbs out each way, which is a massive margin of error (so your baby could be a 7 pounder). I'd make sure you jot down all the questions you have ready for tomorrow - maybe even start a thread? Is baby head down now? If so, that's a good sign in itself that your pelvis is going to be large enough for this baby. Don't panic!!!
KAYZ, my favourite name from the list is Beatrice (though prefer Beatrix). My friend's daughter is Beatrix and they call her 'Bea' which is very sweet!
My scan was good - kidney problem still obviously there as I knew it would be, but fluid levels are fine, bladder fine, the other kidney normal, so a case of a referral post-birth, baby diege being on ABs from birth, then some follow up scans at 4-10 weeks. Probably sounds scary, but have been there with dd1 and 3 and both kidneys were affected with them so this is technically 'better'.
Better go, it's all kicking off here!!!

hellokittyruleswastink · 18/10/2011 18:48

hi rugby Grin asda [hmmm]

kay - will have a gander at thread in a min
bumps - bless you

bumpsnowjustplump · 18/10/2011 18:53

Thanks Kay, I will mention that.

Thanks deige will jot everything down tonight.

Baby is head down but still high up (dont know if that makes a difference). They were also conserned about the level of fluid. There is masses apparently which could mean problems with the cord during labour and renal problems but I couldn't understand what she was saying really so need to go into that a bit more tomorrow...

Diege · 18/10/2011 19:12

Hi BUMPS, I had polyhydramnios with ds (excess fluid) and yes, it does theoretically mean that cord prolapse might be a risk, but this is only if baby is transverse or oblique. As baby is head down (the 'high' bit isn't a concern as such, as babies will often (esp after 1st) start to descend further and engage in early labour with each contraction (mine is also head down but 'free' so nowhere near my pelvis). The only issue might be if your waters go at home they might advise you to come straight in, as opposed to pottering around at home, but that's something your consultant will discuss. Oh and re: renal problems, this usually results in the opposite (olihydramnios - reduced fluids) and other signs (such as I've had on my scans) would be pretty obvious by this stage. I would say the excess fluid in your case is almost definitely related to baby being bigger than average.

Diege · 18/10/2011 19:14

Ie, big baby = more urine produced = more fluid = more taken in, etc etc...

bumpsnowjustplump · 18/10/2011 19:27

thanks for that diege I understand more now thank you. With both dd and ds my waters broke 20 hours before contractions began and ds had cord around his throat and was born blue. Should I tell consultant this?

Diege · 18/10/2011 20:07

Hi, I think I'd mention about the waters breaking at home, but wouldn't be especially worried re: cord with ds as this would be unrelated to fluid levels (ie. cord round neck very common, whereas prolapse not so - 14% if lots of fluid/bad position). I think we'll both be relieved when our babies are here!

Oh RUGBY, didn't mean to ignore you. I'm going for a VBAC this time round and also asked about the continual monitoring. I was told that as long as the belt remained on continuously you could move around (ie. sit on birth ball, kneel on bed) although in my experience the belt slips regardless of whether you're kneeling up or flat on back stationary. You don't have to have continual monitoring (ie, you can refuse) and perhaps compromise by having intermittant monitoring every 15 mins or so. Research from NICE indicates no difference in detection of fetal problems for both methods. I think I'm ok about the continual monitoring but that's mainly due to wanting a vbac at any cost really due to cause of last section. Consultant today said I had a 90% chance of pulling it off!!
Hi TINKS! Do they do bloods in Tesco? (think you'd know if they did Wink)

bumpsnowjustplump · 18/10/2011 20:14

rugby sorry I am so self obsesed at the moment. I had continuous monitoring with both mine as waters had broken so early and problems with hb, so if I can help at all just ask..

Diege again thank you. I will update tomorrow x

hellokittyruleswastink · 18/10/2011 20:49

bkmrking Grin

hi bumps, diege, kay and rugby

GingerbreadLatte · 19/10/2011 07:05

Morning all

Diege- glad scan was ok
Kayz- Bea is my favourite but then Im biased :)
Bumps- wow sounds big!

Got to go, come into my inbox full of unpleasant emails from boss who is pissed off stuff isnt done. What am I supposed to do- work whilst I have my head down toilet? - really pissed me off, I work practically all the time and missed a few bits and Im getting it in the neck. Sad

SESthebrave · 19/10/2011 09:00

Ginger - how rubbish, grrrr! What does your boss expect?! Try and push those emails to one side and just get on with what needs doing as you would anyway.

Diege - scan sounds like it went pretty well

Bumps - I can understand your worries but hopefully they were at least 1lb out!

Rugby - I'd be going for a VBAC this time round I think and am v nervous!

Smithy - hope you're feeling a bit more relaxed now after your scan. It's so hard though!

Kayz - I also like Beatrice (Bea) and also from your list and also Evelyn.

We had a mixed day yesterday. On the one hand, my boss gave me some great feedback and told me at the half year stage, I am on track to exceed my performance plan this year :) (Glad I'd not told him I'm pg yet!) I'm really proud of myself though as it's not been the easiest year personally so be able to be recognised as doing more than just keep up at work made me feel great. It also puts me in line for a better than average pay rise and bonus next summer :)

On the other hand, you may remember that our year started badly when DH's cousin was killed in a car crash in Ireland. It turns out the driver of the car he was in had drunk 9 pints and 5 brandys. The crash caused the death of 3 adults and one unborn child. The driver was sentenced yesterday - he got 4 years and will probably only serve 18months of that. How is that right?! None of us can get our heads round it :(

Right! Off to persaude O to abandon Show Me, Show Me in favour of getting ready for Jo Jingles and then Scallywags! Catch you later :)

Rugbylovingmum · 19/10/2011 10:04

Morning all,

Ses - that's brilliant news about your feedback, after such a tough year you must be so proud Grin. I'm sorry about the sentencing though Sad. I'm always shocked by how little time people serve after this kind of crime. It just seems so unfair! Hopefully these deaths will be on his conscience and he will never get into behind the wheel of a car drunk again but I know that's not a huge consolation for your family right now. I'm so sorry I don't really know what to say.

Ginger - AngryAngryAngry!!! What an idiot, what exactly does he expect you to do!

Bumps - I hope they are at least a lb out and that your labour starts early! Good luck with the appt today!

Diege - glad the scan went well

Kayz - I'll go and have a look at your thread now.

Diege and Bumps - thanks for all the info. I think I'm just going to have to see what the consultants attitude is to the whole thing but there is no way I am having continuous monitoring unless I can also stay mobile - it was awful last time. Like you say Diege they tell you that you can move around but in my experience if you breathe heavily then the bloody thing moves and they lose the signal. I started a thread on here and some hospitals seem to be fine with intermittent monitoring (and will even let you in the pool for the early stages) and some are more difficult. I know I can just refuse it and they can't force me but I would rather not have to argue/fight during labour so I'm just hoping the hospitals policy isn't too strict.

Kayzr · 19/10/2011 10:18

Hello,

Ginger just ignore the emails, there is nothing you can do while you have been so ill.

Bumps I hope the appointment goes well today and they will agree to induce you early.

Ses I am so sorry about the sentencing, its really rubbish considering what he has done. [hsad] You must be really pleased though about what your boss has said. Smile

I am still feeling rubbish, I felt better last night and wasn't too bad this morning. But then on the way back from school I felt really dizzy. It's so horrible.

hellokittyruleswastink · 19/10/2011 10:46

Kayzr · 20/10/2011 07:10

I woke up at half 2 and been awake ever since. Sad

perhaps they will take bloods for halloween!!

SESthebrave · 20/10/2011 19:43

tink - LOL at Tesco taking bloods for Halloween! Grin

I "bumped" into Bumps today! Lovely suprise as I walked into our branch that houses our Regional Office that also happens to be her local branch. I have to say Bumps, you were looking amazing for someone with only a few weeks to go and looking after 2 DC! Really hope you get some clearer answers at your appointment next week, the size prediction is about 1lb out and that the baby stays put until then.

Kayz - hope you're feeling better and you've managed to eat something. I thought my wake up on 4.15am was bad enough. My body finally decided to succumb to sleep again at 6.15am when I had to get up for work Hmm

Ginger - hope your week improved?

Hello everyone else - hope you're all ok.

I need your help wagoners! It is my goddaughter's 6th birthday next week and her mum has asked me to "get her a surprise". I am stumped and too tired to think. She is quite a girly girl but doesn't usually do imaginitive play. She's into more creative things. My budget is about £25. Please help!

OP posts:
Kayzr · 20/10/2011 20:54

Ses, would she like one of those soap making kits or something similar that I keep seeing advertised on tv? I think they are in argos. Though not having girls and the only girl in our family is now 11 I don't know if its any good.

SESthebrave · 20/10/2011 21:02

Thanks - that sounds a possibility :) I'll go and look...
