i can picture Dan descending Snowdon in a sling (he has never done Ben Nevis), and he was the one who wanted one... but we were given a carrier by a friend

plupervert · 09/08/2011 08:52

I hope your DH managed to get a rest before work, Awomancalledhorse. It's not good to hear that trouble may start again tonight, though... Sad Angry

Did you manage to get any sleep, Fusam?

fusam · 09/08/2011 09:08

Awomancalledhorse thinking of you guys, I am in awe of how the police I kept their heads. Can't imagine how frightening it would be to be amidst all that.

plupervert, I just dosed on the sofa for a couple of hours. Am usually not a worrier but I think pregnancy is making me feel vulnerable.

Grin OiMissus

Awomancalledhorse · 09/08/2011 09:09

May I just say PHOWAR at the image of a strapping man put forward by OiMissus, DH agrees to the sling, but not the kilt, damn him.

plupervet, he was tired this morning! He's at work now & promises to update me if anything happens. I've got facebook open, and everyone who was on last night is still on, no one seems to be too badly injured (few head stiches but nothing serious). :(

msbuggywinkle · 09/08/2011 09:27

Slings and riots this morning! Riots first, the cafe I went to for my birthday has been burnt down, as has a Tesco. Lots of my friends live right in it, but apart from being scared and having scared children no one has been hurt. If it carries on I'm clearing out for the duration.

Slings. I have an embarrassing amount, but yes stretch wraps are fabulous for newborns. I can breast feed hands free in mine and once you've tied it you can pop baby in and out without untying it.

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 09:39

aww msbuggy that's awful.

Awomancalledhorse i am thinking of everyone and their families invloved... it's one thing seeing it on the news, but another knowing people/seeing it for yourself

HoneyLovesCake · 09/08/2011 09:57

Morning ladies!

I got back from London yesterday after a long weekend for my best friends wedding & you've started a new thread! Have just read through all the posts I missed; glad to hear about everyone's positive scans.

I can confirm that I too have joined the big bum club; don't know if this is a sign of a boy though as I saw my mum at the weekend & she said that when she had me she "carried me in her bum" Hmm I think she means she just ate a lot (like I've been doing) & got a fat arse Grin Nice try though mum...I might have a go at using that particiular phrase Wink

I just want to say that my heart goes out to all of you who are in cities effected by the riots right now, I may be living in Cornwall but London will always be home to me & it saddens me to see the level of violence & aggression that has descended on one of the most beautiful & cosmopolitan cities in the world. I'll leave my political opinions out of it as I don't think this is the place but I hope you, your families & friends all stay safe.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 09/08/2011 10:05

Morning All.

Seven We had a baby Bjorn carrier when DD was born and it was fabulous, will get one for this time around too.

Msbuggy Good to see your sister is on the mend, albeit a slight set back.

AWCH Thinking of your hubby and his colleagues out there.

All of you who are living in places effected by the riots. I am thinking of you and your families. Its absolutely shocking to see and makes me sad to be British when you see it, as theres no point to it whatsoever, making innocent families, businesses and peoples livelyhoods go up in flames.

I woke up with a sore throat this morning :( chesty cough, now sore throat. The thing is I actually feel fine lol.

Awomancalledhorse · 09/08/2011 10:05

Congrats on the big bum Honey, please accept these granny pants & waddling gait as confirmation that you are ONE OF US now.

Hope you (and best mate) had an excellent time at the wedding!!

I'm ex-police (met DH whilst needing assistance to deal with a heroin addict in a back alley, how romantic!) and even though I've not worked for them in over 2 years I'm itching to get out there. Trying to talk shop working mates not to go into work later today.

Joined the Philips Avent baby club and got a free bottle in the post yesterday, yay free stuff!!

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 10:07

a free bottle?? wooo i'm off to sign up hehe ps... i wan't some more granny pants!!

Awomancalledhorse · 09/08/2011 10:08

Kri5ty, here's the site www.philipsaventfamily.co.uk/

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 10:09

Awomancalledhorse i love how you two met :o i met my OH at work too... i thought he was gay so felt comfortable around him, and thought his flirting was just campness Hmm lol

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 10:09

oooo thanks you :o

DarciesmumandBump2 · 09/08/2011 10:17

AWCH Love how you and your hubby met - very romantic indeed Grin

sevendwarves · 09/08/2011 10:19

AWCH I've signed up to all of the baby clubs Blush but didn't think about Avent. I haven't actually received anything yet though, perhaps they're just slow to send stuff out.

The riots are terrifying, thinking of everyone affected by them, stay safe.

msbuggy are there any particular slings you recommend? I know the style I like but haven't even started looking yet!

OP posts:
HoneyLovesCake · 09/08/2011 10:20

AWCH Thanks for the granny pants Grin very comfy!

Had a wonderful time at the wedding; is it bad that I'm happy it's over though Hmm the pressure of being cake maker for the big day on top of all this pregnancy stuff was starting to get to me....feel like I can relax a bit now :)

It's definitely good that there are people like you & DH out there but I think you're a bit mad; I avoid confrontation at all costs so if I was still living in London I'd probably be down here in Cornwall getting away from it all :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE London but to be honest I wasn't feeling very safe up there on Friday & Saturday (before this all kicked off) & that makes me sad. I don't know what the reasons are but it definitely seems to have gotten more aggressive up there, or maybe it's just because I'm pregnant & feeling very protective of the bump Hmm

OiMissus · 09/08/2011 10:24

I met Stu at work. He was the IT geek manager. I got on with him ok, over the years I started to realise how funny he was, and then one day he walked in having shaved his hair off - Hello!!!! From that day on, he didn't stand a chance.
Thanks for the Philips link awch!

Awomancalledhorse · 09/08/2011 10:28

It makes me sound dead romantic/crazy stalker-ish when I can tell people the EXACT minute I met DH for the first time (1521hrs on the 19th Feb 2008!), can't remember our first date/when we got engaged though Hmm

Honey if I were in your (wide fitting I hope, pregnancy has expanded my feet) shoes I'd be glad too!
Pressure of being cake maker would get to me!

sevendwarves, most of the free stuff I've got, so far, has been a bit poo (the free cow toy from Cow & Gate for example, was falling apart), didn't get anything in the Emma Diary first bag aside from a nappy sample, vit e cream & some nipple pads. Gah! Hope the babyshow in Mancs will make up for it!

mopsytop · 09/08/2011 10:29

You are all making me laugh this morning with your big bums and granny knickers. I have long been a 'high leg' fan (not full on granny pants but knickers that fit properly) - I used wear g-strings when younger - yuck no thanks! My bum is also mahoosive. Beginning to feel a lot better now though - headaches beginning slowly to get more manageable and migraines more or less stopped, although I did have a terrible one last week, still HUGE improvement on having them 6 days a week! - so have started walking again which will hopefully keep bum expansion at bay!!!

Awful news from London and now elsewhere. It just makes no sense attacking your own community. It would be so nervewracking to live there. I would be very nervous. And also very angry I think.

I am loving your romantic stories! I met my husband at work too and I can't even remember the first time I saw him. I didn't notice him for months! But like you said kri5ty I felt really comfortable around him so was just totally myself - always a good thing!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 09/08/2011 10:36

AWCH Thats sweet in a way.

DP & I got together in a way that I guess doesn't happen very often. I happened to be dating a close friend of his at the time! Whenever we did anything my DP was always with us and our bond grew stronger and stronger and we/I realised I wanted to be with him not the other. We've been together ever since. Have a house, 2 cars, a gorgeous DD, another one on the way and we are engaged to be married :) DP lost a friend of 20yrs and we both realised who are true friends were at that stage and DP says he may of lost a 'friend' but he gained something so much more special Grin

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 10:38

"here here" darcies if he was that much of a friend he would have realised (after time) how great you two are togetehr and be happy for you!

Awomancalledhorse · 09/08/2011 10:43

DH just text, he's going to be at work until at least 10pm, 12 hour shifts for everyone too (he's normally on 9 hour, 5 day weeks). Ho-hum, I'll be on here all day then!

darcies sorry your ex/DP's ex-mate couldn't be happy for you, but it sounds like it was meant to be!

mopsy, if we're making you laugh just talking about it...you should see me booty shake Wink
Glad you're starting to feel better.

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 10:48

I don't think you're ready for this jelly true booty shaking!! Beyonce has nothing on our bottoms from the sounds of it!

sevendwarves · 09/08/2011 10:55

It's nice to hear all of your stories of meeting your OH's. I met
DH in the pub where my friend worked, not very romantic at all!

Don't get me wrong the police are really brave and do a truly fantastic job but I think we're too soft in this country. How many other countries would have sent the army in by now?

OP posts:
DarciesmumandBump2 · 09/08/2011 11:03

AWCH Will be thinking of you, your DH, his colleagues and their families tonight.

Thanks everyone :)

Agree with Seven I was saying this last night. Why are they not bringing the army in, they will soon deal with them all. TBH I think anyone caught doing it should be enlisted and sent to Afghan and see how real men fight and stand up for the country and freedom we have today.
