Welcome to the new thread ladies!

sotired congratulations on your boy! I can't understand the better luck next time style comments, as if there's something wrong with boys or not having one of each!

Baby is really active around 10pm, but it's only the last few days I've started to feel anything in the daytime.

I didn't even bother with antenatal classes the first time round, I read up loads on birth and newborns and we managed perfectly fine so definitely won't be bothering this time.

Hi all,
Just checking in... hope you all had a great weekend! Sotired contrats on the baby boy :) Not sure about time off for swimming - I guess it depends on how flexible your work place is and what other mums-to-be are doing. I take time off for a yoga class once a fortnight and my work is okay with that.

Darcies not so much active - but I am definately feeling some moves/kicks. DH felt the baby move for this first time and was so excited. He is constantly rubbing my belly now :)

kri5ty · 08/08/2011 14:15

Wow lots of us are having boys :o

I got given extra food on the eurostar over the weekend as the girl saw i was pregnant ... it made my day haha

Also my best friend stayed at our house to cat sit whilst we were away... i came home to find the walls painted, the cot had been put up, a rug, light shade, wall pictures and stickers up :o she had been planning with OH to surprise me!! I burst out crying when i saw it!

darcies no activity here :( but the scan the other week showed my placenta was at the front!

mopsy good luck!!

florizella · 08/08/2011 14:16

Hi Folks, Haven't been on mums net since easter (work gets in the way) still up duff with first, now due 9th dec, still injecting with heparin, still unclear on any risks/requirements at birth due to this.. ho hum. Anyway glad to see a few familiar names here, waves to all

plupervert · 08/08/2011 14:35

Hello, everyone!

Sitting here in our new house, having just dusted and steam-cleaned 2 bedrooms (against dust mites), and wondering if I need to just cut my losses and leave for the day now.

This mobile broadband thing is very cool; I love my dongle. Last time we moved house, it look weeks to get reconnected, and I had to keep going out to a local cafe to send and receive documents for my freelance work! Angry

Anyway, see you all later, and thanks, sevendwarves, for starting the new thread.

OiMissus · 08/08/2011 14:56

sotired I go to an aquanatal class on Sunday morning (Bolton) and it's very nice, the exercise is easy going (for now) but the advice and story/experience swapping is really useful. Apparently if your midwife will write you a note, you can go to such classes during worktime, but - as most people have said - you know your employer best to be able to judge how supportive/flexible they may be. The girls who are further along in their pregnancies LOVE getting into the water, you can see the relief all over their faces!
kri5ty -how sweet of your friend! How nice!
plupervert congrats on the steam cleaning activity - yes, go, take a rest!
Today's a happy shoppi day - my AllSaints order arrived this morning, and I've just received the breast feedling book recommended by msbuggy.

mopsytop · 08/08/2011 16:08

hi everyone, my scan went totally fine - everything seems healthy and fine so I am super relieved. Placenta is at front which is why I haven't been feeling much movement, apparently. BUT the little bean would not cooperate and open its legs - she tried for ages but it just wasn't having any of it. So still don't know the sex! So long as it's healthy though I couldn't care less if it's a boy or a girl so I am happy.

OiMissus · 08/08/2011 16:25

Congrats mopsy - you and darcies can provide our Christmas surprises! :)

kri5ty · 08/08/2011 17:16

ooo mopsy, its a sign that you should wait for the surprise!! im glad everything is ok!

sevendwarves · 08/08/2011 17:53

Oh no mopsy, it's great that you have that attitude though, and some of the shops have some gorgeous white clothes anyway.

I'm looking forward to next wednesday for another attempt at our scan so hopefully we'll be able to find out the sex then. We need to know as we want a cord blood sample taken if it's a boy to then test for DS's muscular dystrophy. If we can't find out next time I don't know whether we'll be able to find out from a blood test or be made to wait until my 28 week growth scan, as we're not interested in the geneticcounselling which normally goes with finding out the sex through blood results.

msbuggywinkle · 08/08/2011 17:53

Great news mopsy.

The training went well, she's very excited which is great and her little boy and the DDs were fine together while mostly being ignored!

DD3 is another active one, not quite as mad as DD1 was (thank God, based on her sleep as a baby!) but not as chilled as DD2 who slept through almost every night from 4 weeks. I'm expecting this one to be in the middle.

kri5ty · 08/08/2011 19:02

mrsbuggy how is your sister? I was thinking about you both earlier... you may have mentioned it recently but I haven't really caught up on the posts since my hol

seven good luck for next week hun, I have my fingers crossed x

msbuggywinkle · 08/08/2011 19:10

Thanks for asking kri5ty she's slowly getting better mostly, she caught a chest infection at the start of the week which has slowed things down a bit though. Still sleeping for about 17-18 hours day and signed off work until the end of September now!

kri5ty · 08/08/2011 19:27

Aww that's not good, a set back :-( but its great she is on the mend... and able to get plenty of rest!!

sevendwarves · 08/08/2011 20:12

Thanks kri5ty.

Sorry to hear that msbuggy, love to your sister, hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Has anyone thought much about babywearing? We had a tomy carrier for DS but I didn't really like it therefore only used it a few times. I like the idea of keeping baby close and really like the cotton (I want to call them hippy-looking) carriers and slings but am terrified by the stories of babies suffocating in slings. Also I don't know if it would be too cold to have baby in a sling, although a carrier would be ok for summer.

OP posts:
mopsytop · 08/08/2011 20:42

I was given a Baby Bjorn sling seven. Think you can't use it when it's tiny tiny but from about 9lbs you can? It's one where the baby can face you or face out - when it's small it faces in to you. The cotton wrappy ones look snug but they look hard to tie. I am clumsy so I would be a bit worried about it. don't think would be too cold if you wrapped up the baby - it will be close to you so kept warm that way.

BluebellsintheSpring · 08/08/2011 22:33

Another active baby here. Kicks and movements can be both felt and seen from the outside - sometimes it feels like it's trying to get out! Darcies very impressed with your wedding organisation!

Mopsy congrats on scan news - it's nice that there's a few others who won't know either!

Sotired I found my pregnancy yoga and aquanatal classes through the Birthlight website - if you type in postcode it will give you nearby classes; I was able to get evening classes in both cases. Worth a try if you haven't checked there!

Apologies - had hectic day and have just sat down so haven't had opp to update stats thread yet but will def get onto it tmrw or Wed!

BeeMyBaby · 09/08/2011 06:32

seven I'm really thinking of getting a moby wrap this time for around the house, they do look difficult to tie but they look very comfortable for baby, I already have an asian style wrap which was quite good but doesn't have much head support for a newborn. mopsy I had a baby bjorn for my DD but it isn't suitable for a baby under 8lbs so it took about 6 weeks for DD to fit it, was fine for a few months but then too painful to use when she was facing out the way (I think this is true of the majority of outward facing carriers as its apparently just not ergonomic).
I think its the bag type sling you need to avoid (which incidentally is the one we had for the first six weeks for DD, just as these stories were breaking in the news) - I have to say I can understand how easy it is for them to suffocate in them.

KateM77 · 09/08/2011 07:28

seven we had a baby bjorn carrier for DD and will be using it again. It says not to use below a certain weight and DD was only 6lbs when she was born. However, the midwife said it was fine to use it straight away so we were off for our first walk across the fields when she was about 2 weeks old. It was really useful at other times too - if she got fed up of being in the pram around the shops I'd put her in the carrier and she calmed right down. I also used to hoover with her in it and she'd fall off to sleep :) She also liked it when she got bigger and could face out and see the world

OiMissus · 09/08/2011 07:32

Thanks for the birthlight ref: birthlight.com/public/findaclass/ - unfortunately there's nothing anywhere near me! I want a wrap too - but I haven't started looking into it properly. I liked the funky look of this one www.mamasandpapas.com/product-cybex-first-go-baby-carrier-stone/118654300/type-i/ but it's now out of stock... and they are not restocking, butthey might sell it at Halfords...

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 07:55

no birthlight classes near me either :(

we also have a baby bjorn carrier that was given to us, complete with a giant waterproof fleece to go around it to keep baby nice and dry and warm in winter!! That's good to know seven hopefully ours will be ok fro the start too

Awomancalledhorse · 09/08/2011 08:05

Active pregnancy bowels here too Grin

Scan tomorrow morning, worried DH will be called into work then (Met Officer) & we'll have to cancel (know it's a minor thing compared to everything that's going on).

msbuggy, glad your sister is on the road to recovery!

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 08:09

aww Awomancalledhorse i hope he doesn't.. it's a horrible thing that is happening :(

fusam · 09/08/2011 08:23

Hi all been glued to the TV all night watching the riots. The whole thing is so horrifying and places not far from me were pretty much under seige.

I love slings (own 3) and thinking of getting a stretchy wrap one. With a c-section, it was quite painful to wear the baby until the scar healed a bit but I am wondering if there is a better one out there.

OiMissus · 09/08/2011 08:42

awch My thoughts are with your hubby and his colleagues - and your families. And any of you in affected areas, please stay safe.
I love the idea of slings and keeping the baby close. And don't men look wonderful in them?
Once, when descending Ben Nevis, we passed a man in a kilt, with a baby carrier marching up the mountain. Phwoar!!!!! My friends and I all swooned.
