Well, are we?

Has the sickness abated?
Are our locks shiny and luscious?
Are our nails long and strong?
Are we back on form in the 'ahem' bedroom?

No? Well we soon will be ladies it's The second Trimester*

Just quickly - did someone say they had a tiny bit of spotting after sex? Did you do anything - ie tell your midwife? I had the tiniest bit of brownish discharge after that I wouldn't have noticed if I'd been wearing black pants!

Xavielli · 28/08/2011 09:51

I did. I told MW first time and she said it was nothing to worry about. It's the first question she asked me; If I'd had sex, so it must be relatively common.

PIMSoclock · 28/08/2011 10:12

sugar I'm with you on the healthy eating diet. I know you can show quicker with your third pregnancy but I look 6 months preg at 14+2!!!!
have really cut down on crap and now that the nausea has gone, it's fruit only for snacks.
Weight has yo yo'd!! Put on 13lb but I've lost 8lb making my total weight gain a more respectable 5lb.
Am now panicking that perhaps I shouldn't have lost any weight! What if it's bad for the baby etc, but I've been really healthy and definitely not starving myself.
Anyone got any words of wisdom on this and put my mind at rest xxxx

phlossie · 28/08/2011 10:49

I think you're fine PIMSoclock - I put on loads because I had to eat to stop myself from puking, but since my booking at 10 weeks I've lost 3kg because I'm eating sensibly - actually it's really uncomfortable to over eat, and since then I've not put any more. And once I start back at work and will be spending 6 hours a week jumping around in water, I'll probably lose a bit more.

Thanks for the reassurance Xavielli. Have you had sex again since? I found it so uncomfortable and the spotting freaked me out, so it might be the last time! Poor DH!

Xavielli · 29/08/2011 08:27

Yes, its happened with my last 3 pg and I've always carried on having sex. If you are worried do call the mw x

babycarmen · 29/08/2011 10:10

DP felt baby last night, yay happy days! Lots of kicks now, mw on wednesday and i feel like someones snapped my spine but other then that... everything is good :)

17 weeks now Shock

littlemonkeybix · 29/08/2011 11:18

Hi girls,
I saw my consultant on Friday, who deals with obese pregnancies. Good news, I wasn't fat enough to be under his care!! Must have been a grumpy MW picking on me for being quite fat, but clearly not fat enough!! YAY
Also, he said it would still be worth losing a little weight. I asked whether this was ok to attempt while PG, and he said yes. As long as its just a healthy eating approach, and you're still feeding yourself enough. The baby will take what it needs from you anyway.
I was quite pleased with that!! So fruit and veg intake already up, and attempting to cut down on bread, crisps, chocolate and other crap Grin
Hope you're all having a fab bank hol! I am feeling much better since visiting Peacocks yest... Cleared them out of size20 mat. jeans!! Now feel relaxed about what I can wear! Was beginning to get stressed at bursting out of everything, but with no alternative!!
Also bought baby's "going home" outfit!!! Me and DP were quite taken with a fab little snuggle suit thingy... But want adult sizes too!! Comfy Grin

InnocentRedhead · 29/08/2011 12:09

Hey all,

Bloody hell, a lot has gone on since i last posted!!

Happy birthday Crazybit for the other day :) I think i have had braxton hicks, or at least contractions the other day after orgasm...
Phlossie not had brown discharge though... The contractions freaked me out and i have not let my DP near me since :( Did you speak to you midwife?

Bill Did you say you had found out the sex? A girl? I am convinced I am having a girl. DP already has a little girl and I am sure he is packing them X chromosones, either way, i will be over the moon as long as they are healthy! :)

Great news littlemonkeybix I think healthy eating will do you the world of good too :) Awww, going home outfit, my DP is the only one who has thought about that, i am just thinking about the current day, and that is exhausting enough!!

Has anyone else stopped feeling pregnant? I'm 16 week ish, not sure as my dating scan confused me. If anyone could help me figure it out at my scan i was dated 12+3 on 5th August... I just don't feel pregnant anymore and it is really confusing me :( I am not enjoying pregnancy, but suddenly to stop feeling pregnant at all, it's horrible. Anyone else felt this?

Sugar80 · 29/08/2011 13:07

I feel very pregnant today. I'm wearing leggings. I HATE leggings, I find them unflattering, and they get covered in dog hair as soon as I touch them (2 white dogs!). However, they're the only thing in my wardrobe I fit into. Right fed up. I didn't think this would happen so quickly - I'm only 14 weeks, quite small to start with, and it's my first baby....

louby86 · 29/08/2011 14:42

That's great news monkey

What a shame bank holiday weekend is so miserable!

My sickness seems to have come back with a vengeance, it's been two days of being the worst it's been so far, I thought it was supposed to stop by now! Holding out hope that it will stop by 20 weeks, it's starting to get me down now!

15+2

woowa · 29/08/2011 20:15

Innocent, totally understand about the not feeling pg thing. I think the time between 12 and 20 week scan is the worst, especially for first baby as you don't feel sick, you feel less tired, you haven't got much of a bump and you can't feel baby move much or at all (i didn't feel it til about 20 weeks with DC1). It is rubbish. The only thing that put my mind at rest was MW finding heartbeat last week, but even that isn't always possible, especially if your placenta is at the front, or for loads of reasons. Anyway, feeling not pregnant (if the above IS why you're feeling like you are) is normal and horrible. You'll just have to be patient and wait for those little movements which feel like popping and the 20 week scan. And slowly you'll grow out of your clothes too! Try not to think of the worst that could happen because it very rarely does :)

Rubbish day here with DH. He's low which means he withdraws into himself. Hard when we're all at home all day and DD wants to see him. Fortunately she is very self-sufficient and plays really well by herself. I also got out a new toy (dolly pram found in charity shop for BARGAIN price and excellent condition, it's sprung and everything so bounces along the pavement). I've been hiding it for a day like this.

Speaking of DD i can hear her wailing from cot. She's discovered she can pull the blind towards her and watch the cars out of the window and now bedtime is getting worse again. Sigh. Can't wait to have 2 to put to bed!! ARGHHH

Happy days.

Xavielli · 29/08/2011 20:45

I admit I also have days when I completely forget I'm pregnant, like woowa said there isn't much to go on in this limbo phase. It's like reverting back to the pre 12 week panic but without the nausea to reassure us!

Was thinking about boys names, do you think Lachlan Docherty (using the loch pronunciation, I think LAHK-Lin sounds like a strange bird noise) is a bit ck- heavy? I'm torn but love the name!

woowa · 29/08/2011 21:07

Is Docherty your surname? i think it's a lovely name. If it's a middle name, for some reason that might be too much. No idea why.

Our DD's name ends in -Ba and our surname begins Ba-. My dad calls her ba-ba. We swore we'd not choose a name ending in Ba, but it's such a lovely name that it doesn't matter. She can marry out of surname eventually!!

Xavielli · 29/08/2011 21:15

Yes it's DP's surname. Though he's just turned his nose up at Lachlan, one to keep in reserve for when I've just given birth! Ba- ba is a really sweet nickname. My poor mum managed to marry a man whose surname is so similar to her first name - think Andrea Andrews. Mind you atleast her initials aren't B.O anymore!

QueenFee · 30/08/2011 00:49

Yes some names are unfortnate! I have met an Emma Dale and an Anette Curtain :o both by marriage! My friend thought about making her surname double barrelled but then thought Emma Dale was just more fun!
I like Lachlan Docherty. For some reason in my head I say it in a scottish voice. (maybe thats my mother speaking- shes scottish)

louby86 · 30/08/2011 07:49

Morning everyone!

Lachlan sounds lovely, a nice strong name as a lady I work with would say!

Have my midwife appointment Thursday so I know I shouldn't worry too much and it's my own fault for not asking how I get the results but does anyone else not get their screening results from the first scan until they see their MW? I'm sure they told me they'd be discussed at the next appointment or I'd get a phone call if it was something to worry about.....hmmmn

DH spent yesterday clearing out our spare rooms so one can be a nice guest room and the other the nursery. We've only lived in this house two and a half years and can't quite believe the amount of junk we have accumulated! Off to do a car boot on Sunday if I'm feeling better!

phlossie · 30/08/2011 08:38

I don't feel pregnant - energy back, food aversions fading, no sickness. But I have got a big round belly, so I certainly look pregnant! I've also felt some movements, though these aren't daily.

Innocent - I didn't phone the midwife, and I've felt movements since. It was such a piddly amount that tmi alert - was mixed in with the 'what goes up must come down' gunk. The whole thing was a bit uncomfortable anyway - not sure I fancy it again! It wasn't a problem in my last two pregnancies, and I guess I feel that I've had two healthy, gorgeous babies and I can't believe this one isn't going to be ok! Just a bit paranoid, really.

littlemonkeybix · 30/08/2011 16:01

Just a quick lurkers post today folks.

Has anyone been suffering from palpitations??! I text my nursey friend to see what I should do as MW appointment not for a fortnight, and she said it's fine, normal preggy things going on but best to get a GP appointment to discuss.

Also today I am losing the battle with my eyelids... zzzzz

My bloods all came back normal, including heamoglobin etc so didnt think I was anaemic.

Hope you are all having a better day!

babycarmen · 30/08/2011 16:37

I have my 16 week mw appt tomorrow, even though im 17 weeks+ now.. i have a few things i want to ask her about but i know fine il forget something.. :/

I feel pregnant just because im getting a lot of kicks now so its hard to forget :) and im still getting spells of complete tiredness where i really cant do anything. Like now. Yawn...
3 weeks to go til my 20 week scan, then 6 weeks after that is our 4d scan when we will find out the sex. (They dont tell you at our hospital and were dying to know this time) so im really looking forward to that.. NOT looking forward to DDs birthday at the end of October and Christmas THEN a new baby. My poor bank balance... :(

Oh and wondering if anyone has experience with this.. at my booking in i told my mw my blood type (A+) which i knew from being pregnant with DD but she says that your blood type can change sometimes when you give birth if the babys blood gets into your blood stream so id need to be tested again anyway.. sounds totally bizarre to me, can that actually happen? Pointless question im just interested :)

madeindevon2 · 30/08/2011 17:37

I'm sure i wasn't so tired last time. I get sooo exhausted. Last night couldn't keep eyes open.
I'm 15+5

phlossie · 30/08/2011 18:53

babycarmen - yes, because your baby is a 'foreign body' your body can create antibodies if your blood mixes. It doesn't exactly change your blood type, but it can make your body attack a new baby as though it were a virus or something like that. It happened to my friend: her DD1's blood mixed with hers, so she had to have check ups throughout pregnancies with DDs 2 and 3 to make sure her body didn't attack the babies. She was lucky because they both had the right blood type so her body accepted them. I hope that makes sense. So they check your blood for antibodies twice during your pregnancy. Hope that makes sense! (and that it's accurate!)

woowa · 30/08/2011 20:41

on Blood types, I think that's only relevant though if you are Rhesus negative (so O-, A-, B- or AB-) and your baby is positive.

Imagine that on the outside of positive blood cells are little + signs sticking off the outside. Someone with these sticking out is never going to make antibodies which attack + signs because they'd be attacking themself all the time.

In a rhesus negative person, you have nice smooth outsides to your blood cells. So, if you have a baby who is positive, their blood cells are covered in + signs. If baby's blood gets into yours at birth, your smooth blood will develop antibodies which will attack the +blood cells because they are foreign. Then, when you have another baby, if they are +, negative mum's body will have lots of antibodies hanging about waiting to kill the + signs on your baby's blood. Which is VERY bad for second babies, because they are attacked by their mummies. Sad Which is why rhesus negative mummies get anti-D at (or after?) giving birth, which stops the antibodies which attack + signs in subsequent babies.

I don't think it happens with other blood groupings (the A/B bit), so if you're positive, don't worry about it. If you are negative then your MW will tell you about the jab.

I'm so sorry if that didn't make sense, it's been a long time since uni!!

ON kicks, baby has been wriggling and squiggling loads today! I know i won't feel the same in a few months when they are proper punches in the bladder, but at the moment it's lovely!! I had 3 teenage girls round for a bible study and they asked what it felt like. I said "have you seen alien?..."

Emz33 · 30/08/2011 21:43

So I'm 15+5 with first baby. Have been getting sudden sharp pains not sure if they are kicks or body telling me I shouldn't have just eaten a pizza - what do you think?! Dying to know what baby kicks feel like!

Xavielli · 31/08/2011 08:01

Emz, the sharp pains are probably ligament pain from all the stretching. Babies feel much more gentle than that and you can't really describe it as 'kicks' at first. The Americans call it 'quickening' which is a fairly good likeness. It kind of feels like butterflies when you are excited/nervous but lower down. It also feels like bubbles/wind... I go on the theory if I don't ... ahem... 'pass wind' after a movement it was probably the baby. A few weeks after this then the kicks start and you will be left in no doubt at all that it's baby keeping you awake all night.

phlossie · 31/08/2011 13:39

My friends wasn't a positive/negative thing, woowa. I can't remember how it went, but it was to do with big As and little As - it was something like, she was two little As aa, and her DD1 was two big As AA. If she'd had another AA baby, it would have needed inutero blood-transfusions, but both her second and 3rd babies were Aa so they were ok. Or something. It wasn't the same as the rhesus positive/negative thing - they were all positive.

Baby movements are like wind bubbles - I use the same theory, Xavielli! I have also felt something like a poke. I have also been getting sharp pains Emz and know for a fact that it's my rubbish tummy muscles.
