Urgh started feeling sick last night when I went to bed and it hasn't got any better today Sad I've been sick twice and have no idea what it is. I don't do being ill! grrr

Carlitawantsababy · 29/11/2011 18:03

Sad poor bun how horrid for you!
Completely forgotten what I came on here to say. Blush

Morning!

ghost sorry, crossposted with you before! I am so with you on the no WAG stuff - it's horrible and makes my skin crawl! That plus playboy branded stuff for school kids - yuck! Makes me so sad when teenage girls have no ambition beyond being arm candy for a footballer! Everyone is capable of being more than that!

carlita party dresses with wellies sounds very glasto! I had a babydoll dresses with DMs stage, but was more of a ripped jeans, cherry red DMs and band t-shirts kinda girl (god I loved the early 90s!) I was a pretty good teen, got decent (ish) grades, never disappeared overnight etc, but my parents are quite laid back (they'd rather me & my friends hung out in the garage where there was table tennis/darts/stereo and drank the weak lager they just happened to have a crate of sat about than disappeared off to who knows where) so I would have had to be pretty awful to be considered a bad teen by them! Plus, as the eldest of 4 with the youngest a massive 12 years younger than me, their attention was mainly elsewhere, so as long as I behaved reasonably and didn't come home too drunk to walk/off my head then I could get away with whatever I wanted really! Was pretty quiet up till 15 or so (was an orchestra nerd), then discovered vodka & boys - but still never properly went off the rails!

How exciting to find a new name! Can't wait to find out what it is!! Grin I'm most jealous - I hope we find a name we love soon!

How is your sister doing today?

Bun Hope you are feeling better today!

Am feeling a little less guilty about everything today - bump is growing all of a sudden which is helping! Am in dresses for now as I am finding maternity jeans/anything tight anywhere near the bump really uncomfortable! DP is finding it most odd - I pretty much live in jeans normally and he's only seen me in a dress a handful of times across the entirety of our relationship, now i'm wearing a succession of cheapy H&M knitted dresses and tights and I don't look like me at all! Grin

I've also treated myself to some nice shortbread and danish butter biscuits (which are so christmassy!!) for when I fancy something to eat but don't fancy any one particular thing - I can pretty much always eat shortbread! Plus some fruit, for every biscuit blowout I shall have a day of fruit and probiotic yoghurt! Wink

I've been scouring ebay looking for nice clothes for fuzzy and the first thing I won arrived this morning - it's a super cute stripy M&S cardigan in bright primary colours (this one here It's really soft and lovely - am very excited about dressing fuzzy in it! Is making it all feel a bit more real, having baby clothes around the house! Am watching a stack more - am determined to have a selection of nice, bright baby clothes for when fuzzy comes! Am focusing on a mix of newborn / 0-3 months, so that if I have a bad flare post birth, I've already got the first couple of months sorted and don't need to worry about going shopping!

Those of you that have already had kids - any tips/lists of clothes you got when you had your first? Things you'd recommend?

Carlitawantsababy · 01/12/2011 08:42

trope as teens we sound pretty similar, party dresses and wellies and dolls as a child. By 11 - jeans, band t shirts, cherry DMs, shaved head. I discovered vodka and boys a few years earlier than you though! Grin spent my teens going to gigs and festivals and camping in fields. My mum was very sensible/lenient and happy if I was safe.
That cardigan is very cute! I now have all the clothes I need for DS (!) and not one thing is baby blue! Very pleased, lots of lovely bright colours and a few black and white things which I love too. Grin one tip from my mum was once they are crawling/walking dungarees are the key...my sister and I always had tiny hips and if we were in trousers she was constantly having to hoick them up!
My sister had her babies this morning at 4am, all is well! Grin

gosh it's quiet here!

Any update from your sister carlita?
Bun hope you are feeling better!

I just came on to share some excitement! DP can feel fuzzy kicking!!! Only when fuzzy kicks near my belly button / middle of my stomach - but that seems to be his favourite spot right now, so no worries there! (Makes a pleasant change from my bladder!) We were lying in bed talking last night and fuzzy was kicking up a storm, so I put DPs hand on my belly and he nearly had it kicked off!!! Fuzzy really stepped up the kicking where DPs hand was and kicked good and hard for about half an hour! DP was really blown away! Is very reassuring - fuzzy seems to be getting much stronger - the kicks are so hard! Must be a good sign, surely! :)

Off to town today to do some gentle xmas shopping, maybe treat myself to lunch out in the lanes somewhere! Going to get my arthritis bloods done, just to check that's all OK, then come home and laze about! If it wasn't pissing down with rain it would be a perfect day! :)

Hope you're all well - any updates from folks? Piggy, Fools, Davina, Mammainthemaking, Elliebug? Hope all the essays haven't scared folks away!! Blush

trope · 01/12/2011 09:18

Crossposted - WOOOOO! Congratulations to your sister!!! Grin You're an aunty!! Grin Glad all is well!

"going to gigs and festivals and camping in fields" - lol, are you me? Sounds like we had remarkably similar teen years! Bloody brilliant wasn't it! Grin

Congrats on getting all the clothes sorted - and none in baby blue!! I'm impressed! Grin You have set the bar for awesome baby clothes very high! Wink Yesterday I went through everything I've got so far and it's a pretty colourful set - no baby blue for me either! Lots still to get though - but is so much fun searching for stuff on ebay/charity shops etc that I really don't mind!

With you on the dungarees front - nothing sadder than watching a kid trying to crawl with their trousers stuck down around their knees!!

BunMyOven · 01/12/2011 09:57

Hi! I'm feeling better today thanks, was 2 days of very little food so feeling pretty run down but not sick any more so that's good Smile Got my Lucozade blood test this morning, really dreading it! Just checked though and I've got some good clear veins on my left hand (still none on my arm visible) so at least they should be able to do it first attempt and reduce the ouch-factor!

Congratulations Aunty Carlita! Glad it all went well Grin

Oh Trope you're plan for the day sounds lovely! I've got to come back home after the blood test for a delivery and to sort out the dumping ground that is our living room - there are no visible surfaces to put up the Christmas decorations this weekend! Grin So not quite as fun a day planned for me Sad Wink

Great news that your DP can feel the baby kick!! Very sweet Smile

MY teenager self was completely lacking in any interest in image (not too much has changed there) so I just wore jeans jeans jeans, random tops that could have been inside out for all I cared and trainers that were mostly falling apart. Blush
My friends and I used to go 'camping' (we never actually had a tent, just lots of blankets in a field) every day we could over the summer, even if it was freezing cold. We'd go with a wind up radio, the ability to light a fire, lager and plenty of weed. God my mum would have killed me if she'd have found out I wasn't staying at my friends house! Especially because there were 2 girls and 5 boys - not a ratio she would be happy about! We behaved though (apart from the drugs obv) compared with most of the people our age and kept ourselves to ourselves. Very fond (hazy) memories Smile

Yes, where is everyone? Hope you're all fine!

BunMyOven · 01/12/2011 13:36

Well! That was an interesting appointment! DP is working in Crawley today so couldn't take DS off my hands so I had to take him with me. Was running really late so had to plonk DS in his pram and power walk up to the Dr's which resulted in very painful hips and pelvis and a mini asthma attack - all fun but got there on time somehow.
Turns out the appointment was upstairs (which the receptionist should have asked me if it was ok when I booked the appointment, lucky I'm not disabled!) so I had to leave the bloody pram downstairs (too steep and narrow to get the pram up) after all!
Sat down, gave the nurse the form for my bloods, she looked at it and said "Oh! This is for a Lucozade test? We don't do that here, you have to go up to the Polyclinic for that!" I explained that I'd clearly told the receptionist when I booked the appointment that it was specifically for a Lucozade test and I obviously wasn't very impressed. She went and got the surgery's midwife (not my MW) who I think took pitty on me as I was clearly frazzled and asked the nurse to make an exception and do the test.
By some miracle - more likely the fact that I was very hot and bothered by now! - she managed to get 2 vials of blood from my arm! Shock. She was completely lovely and helped to keep DS occupied with his toys that I'd brought and he was a star. Phew! MW came back in to say she had booked an appointment for me for next week to go over my results and said that if I was happy to she'd take over my care for the rest of the pregnancy to save me trekking up to where other MW is - she's very busy hence why I had to go to the other one at the children's centre so I was very grateful!
Got home, sat down and took the plaster off my arm as it had stopped bleeding, DS got a bit upset because "mum's hurt arm" and he gave me the 'brave as a lion at the doctor's' sticker that the nurse had given him, stuck it on my hand and gave me a big hug and kiss to 'fix my ouch'! [soppy proud smile]

Fingers crossed for the results, nervous about that now!

And if you got through all that, you too deserve a sticker! Wink

MammaInTheMaking · 01/12/2011 13:50

Hellooooo!

I've been keeping away of the last few days because I was getting so anxious about my 12 week scan today. I was just so scared something might have gone wrong and yesterday I bumped my tummy on my desk at work (quite hard really) and it just worried me so much.... BUT!!!! On what would have been my wonderful Nan's birthday I had the scan this morning and THERE WAS BLUBES with a head and legs and arms and feet and hands and A BEATING HEART!!!!!!!!! I know everyone ahead of me has already gone through the relief and emotions and now I'm part of that gang! Everything was completely normal and I had the nuchal test too. Baby was facing down throughout and the sonographer asked if I minded I'd she prodded me to try and get it to flip over. I was busting for the loo but wanted her to try so she just really quickly prodded my tummy loads of times with the scanning machine! I was so surprised how hard she did it and then suddenly Blubes had flipped over, legs and arms all over the place probably really annoyed at getting flipped over so violently!! Was so funny. And then we got a nice look at it laying on it's back. DP was totally amazed and right up by the tv screen laughing at how it's legs were akimbo! Got a cool pic and also due date got bumped forwards so now we're 13 weeks exactly. Yip yip yay! Grin

Sorry for the post being all about me, I'm now going to read through all the posts I've missed the last few days!

xx

BunMyOven · 01/12/2011 13:56

Oh Mamma that's bloody fantastic news! Congratulations!! Grin Really happy for you, bet your shoulders feel a whole lot lighter now ay? Smile Go Blubes!

Carlitawantsababy · 01/12/2011 14:39

Fab news mamma many many congratulations. Can't wait to see the photo! Grin
Aw bun your DS is too cute. Glad you got your midwife change too, she sounds nice and it'll be much more handy. Your camping experiences sound similar to mine too if you swap the lager for cider and the radio for guitars Smile
Yay trope so exciting that DP felt fuzzy move! Sounds like fuzzy is very well behaved. Our one stops when DH comes near! Grin
Am waiting for acupuncture at the hospital then will maybe meet my nieces seeing as I am here! They've been in recovery (emergency c section) since birth though and still hadn't moved to a ward so will have to see once my session is finished.

trope · 02/12/2011 10:35

Bun glad you're feeling better! Blood test sounds like a faff, glad it all worked out well in the end though! Fingers crossed for good results! :) How lovely that your DS gave you his sticker/kissed it better - what a sweetie!

Mamma Hurrah!! So pleased your scan went well! Know what you mean about the sonographer prodding your bump to try and get the baby to shift - had that at every scan and it's never worked - is super uncomfortable isn't it!! I always end up having to get up and go for a walk / have a drink & some food!! Do post your scan pic up for us all to gush over!! Wink

Carlita Fuzzy seems to get more active when DP is about funnily enough! DP's voice is much deeper than mine, I think fuzzy can tell when it's daddy talking rather than mummy already! He's so going to be a daddy's boy isn't he!! Wink

Hope the acupuncture went well and you got to meet your nieces!

Hiccups!!! That sounds both cute and probably really quite annoying at the same time!! I hate getting hiccups, the thought of having fuzzy hiccuping inside me really doesn't appeal - cute though it sounds! Did they last for long?

Well I'm up at my parents place today - babysitting the builder/decorators working in the house (my folks had to go out for work meetings and don't like leaving strangers in the house with keys). Had to get up at 6.15am which I haven't done in a while! Now i'm sat with my laptop and a book and struggling to stay awake! Funnily enough, the guy they hired went to school with me! Hadn't seen him in over a decade - he hasn't changed a bit!

I think, if DP gets home on time tonight (he had to work late last night, grr!) we might go and get the xmas tree! I am coming down on the side of it being nice to get the decorations up before DP goes away, hoping some xmassy cheer will perk me up a bit!!

Bun town was crazy busy yesterday, despite the pouring rain! :( You really didn't miss much having to go home after your blood test - was not at all fun getting elbowed about by crazy xmas shoppers! Managed to get some really nice fabric though for making winter pocket warmers (mini wheat bags) to give as presents to family, so it wasn't a complete wash out! Dreading trying to get the rest of the xmas shopping done - haven't even started buying DPs presents yet :(

Carlitawantsababy · 02/12/2011 15:15

trope Haven't met them yet! My sis is feeling pretty bad after the c section.
The hiccups were cute. I hate having them myself but was lovely to feel him with them! Only lasted a couple of minutes, will wait for a more epic session! I'm 24 weeks today so baby now 'viable' (what a horrid term!) but yay! Grin

OP posts:
elliebug · 02/12/2011 19:39

HelloSmile I am still here trope just very sleepy and emotional!! bun your story about the sticker made me cry!! I am also feeling very fat! I have a fair bump but cos I'm not skinny it's not big enough yet to be an obvious baby bump! Gave been working lots which isn't helping either Sad
Reading all your posts has kept me feeling a but sane so thanks even if I don't post very often (I used to live on the net!) am off for some late night Christmas shopping if I can find a coat that fits.....

Carlitawantsababy · 02/12/2011 21:58

Hi ellie Smile lovely to hear from you! Hope you enjoy your shopping trip!

OP posts:
GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 03/12/2011 09:29

Carlita congrats on making 24 weeks; it feels like an important milestone, doesn't it! Though I do know someone online who had a 22 weeker who is now about 16 months. They're in America so the guidelines are different He'll have a few problems for life but is a smart little cookie and has progressed very well. Sorry, I shouldn't mention these things, should I?!

I also hear that a few ladies on the Feb thread have already popped - but we're still baby free on the Jan thread.

Hope everyone's doing well!

Carlitawantsababy · 03/12/2011 12:11

Loving the Christmas name ghost! Been meaning to get on the laptop to change mine! Grin
That's scary about the February thread, my manager had her February baby in December too. He was a good weight though and didn't even need any special care!
DH is away this weekend as it is his Dad's birthday (I didn't go because of the imminent birth of the twins) so I'm on the bus on the way to the hospital to (finally) meet my nieces. Sis has had a bit of a bad run of things as they finally realised yesterday evening that the reason she was feeling so awful was that they had left a swab in her when they did the c section so had to have another operation last night. She's much better today. She also managed to hold off the midwives and doctors who were trying to guilt trip her by advising she give them formula to raise their glucose levels less than 24 hours after birth. You have to be so well educated about it if you plan to BF as they really don't have a clue. Giving them a bottle at that point would have been one of the worst things they could've done! Anyway, I shall report back after my cuddles! Grin

OP posts:
GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 03/12/2011 14:55

Eek that's the kind of c-section story that really freaks me out! Ouch Sad if I end up with a c-section there's a good chance that one of my hockey teammates would perform it, which I think would be quite funny Grin

Hopefully it'll be MW led natural birth all the way though, fx...

Morning all!

carlita Yay for hitting 24 weeks! Xmas Grin Glad you've got to meet your nieces - how lovely to be asked up to help out! Newborn snuggles!! Am very jealous! Am Xmas Shock about the swab getting left in - that's terrible! Your poor sister! And the pushing of formula feeding like that - really poor. It's so sad that you can't trust the people who should be specialists in this sort of thing - but sadly not at all uncommon... Xmas Sad

elliebug glad you're still with us! Don't worry about feeling fat instead of pregnant - you will get a proper baby bump soon i'm sure! I looked/felt chubby as hell for the first 3-4 months - it was only when the bump "popped" that I started to look more clearly pregnant whilst clothed! And that's despite being in maternity trousers by about week 6 because of my bump! It just takes a while to look like a pregnancy bump! I'm 21+5 today and finally have a proper bump and am loving it! (Although I am getting the fear about just how big I'll end up, as my bump has had a major growth spurt in the last few weeks!!)

Ghost love the xmas name! Xmas Grin Early birth stories are very scary - fingers crossed no one on our thread has to go through one! How funny that you'd know the person that would do your c-section (not that you're going to have one as you will have a lovely, simple, midwife led birth that is miraculous in it's shortness and lack of pain! Xmas Wink)

Mamma oh what a shame! Xmas Sad Keep trying!! It will have to work eventually, right? Xmas Smile

Well DP is back in NY - took him to heathrow yesterday. His hotel internet doesn't work and we just spoke on the phone on what was possibly the worst phone line ever. He's got a crazy early start today (hence him being up and calling me at 5am his time) so I may well not get to talk to him again today - although he will try and call if he can. So I have a plan to tidy the house, do food shopping, run errands and generally keep as busy as can be today!

If I get all that done and am not completely worn out, I am going to put up some fairy lights (I can't do the tree till my dad comes over later and gets the decorations out of the loft for me as i'm under strict instructions to not go up the ladder myself, but I have some new lights to put around the mirror and on the shelves!!) put on a xmassy episode of the west wing and start making pocket size wheaty bags to give to people for xmas! So i've got a good incentive to get lots done!
