It's probably nowhere near as bad as I'm making out. I'm unhinged at the best of times, just more so when pregnant! Spent last night and this morning bawling my eyes out about some true love thread, luckily managed to stop being daft in time to take ds to his club. He has his first sponsorship form to do roly polies for Tommy's :). Took him to my mum's so he could ask her to sponsor him. His attempt was "pay meeeeeeeeeee nana" then a big smile, hug and kiss. He will have that form filled in no time!

BatsInTheSnowglobe · 30/09/2011 17:38

trope Pacman material sounds awesome. i was a sega girl growing up, sonic over mario every time!

I've still not managed to changed my booking appointment! The birthing centre I was planning on going to has been closed! So now I'm having difficulty getting hold of anyone who can help me change the appointment! Can't believe it, absolutely gutted, so now my choices will be the big hospital in the horrid nearby town or home and as it's my first home really doesn't appeal! We don't even have any private units near by I could attempt to try and talk DP into paying for!! lol

fools i've been crying over nothing, literally nothing. The camera advert where Robbie takes a pic of the audience wit a tear in his eye sets me off crying... quickly followed by wetting myself laughing through tears at the kitten riding the tortoise! It's like an emotional roller coaster that advert! I shouted at my boss yesterday at work cos she was the 3rd person to ask me to do the same thing in under a min told her i'll do the bloody thing in a minute and if one more person tells me too I'm smacking them over the head.... I then walked into the staff room and ranted that I hated today cos I'm the only one at my level so everyone above me bosses me about cos they're all too scared to ask anyone but me to do anything and they're all too lazy to do it themselves blah blah blah she let me go home early!! haha

I've not been sick for 2 days Grin woooooo

Davinaaddict · 30/09/2011 19:52

Hi ladies

Sorry you're suffering Carlita - hope you manage to get some physio sorted.

Thanks Bun - it's not too bad really, just that the hormones make everything do much worse. And also moving from just under the upper band to just over it, is a problem as you pay double the tax but the extra income isn't enough to cover the extra tax Sad. We always said we'd have babies when we could afford the childcare, and the rest would sort itself out. Hopefully we can still do this but I'll need to sit down & go through the finances with a fine tooth comb. I was chatting to my boss yesterday about career and it seems I'm currently next in line for her role when she's ready to move on in a couple of years so feeling really positive about that. Shock at you having been homeless though! That must have been truly awful and really puts my rant into perspective Blush

Poor you, trope but glad to hear you're on the mend. Good to hear about the permanent job, even though it sounds like it will bring it's challenges Confused Yay for the boiler! Great timing - you'll have it all ready for the snow we're forecast in October Grin

Wow fools, that sounds like one interesting birthday! Grin Am not very good at bribery (although I'm sure that will change with a nearly 2 year old!), but would love to see the photos! Grin Hope you have a great night & feel great with it. Aww your LO sounds adorable! He'll make a fortune Smile I can totally sympathise with the hormonal randomness! But at least we have the best excuse Grin.

BunMyOven · 30/09/2011 23:06

Hi all! I appologize in advance for the awful post, Im on my Kindle and it really isn't designed for this!

Ghost, thank you for the sewing machine advice and thank you Trope for the offer of using yours! My mum, however, has been a diamond and ordered me one as an early Christmas present Smile It should be here next week so I'm dying to get my hands on it to figure out how the hell to use it!

I've completely forgotten everything I was going to say now Confused . . . nope, its gone!
clearly a sign to call it a night, I will try and catch up properly tomorrow (with the correct grammar!). Hope you all have a great weekend Smile

trope · 01/10/2011 12:14

carlita I got the fabric from an American company called Spoonflower - the website says that delivery can takes weeks and weeks to the UK, but it actually only took about 10 days (maybe less) to arrive. There is a selection of videogame related fabric here and the one I got was this pacman one. They do each pattern in a range of different fabrics, so you should be able to find one that is suitable for making clothes! :) I'm waiting on my DP freeing my sewing machine (it's buried in the spare room at the moment) before I can make the wheaty bag cover. I bought the linen cotton canvas fabric as I wanted something quite hard wearing - i'm yet to put it in the microwave to check it is OK being heated like that, but it should be fine, I hope!

Mario Nursery - yeah - it's fab isn't it! DP and I debated doing a videogames themed nursery, but decided that we were going to keep away from brand related decor, didn't feel quite right to put licensed characters in a babies room somehow! If fuzzy loves mario when they are older we can always redecorate! :)

fools ouch at the tiger balm!! Extension sounds cool - i'd love to extend my house! (Well, I'd prefer to move, but can't afford that either!) What are you planning on getting done? Great that you can move in with your folks while the work is done - do you get on well? I think i'd murder my mother if I had to live with her for any extended period of time!! Wink

Wheat bag - I make a plain cotton liner for it and fill it between 1/3 and 1/2 full of whatever I'm using (wheat, pearly barley etc), how full depends on whether you want quite a rigid bag, say for your lower back, or a floppier one to wrap around your toes, then sew that firmly closed (needs to be strong enough that the seams won't pull apart when it's used and let wheat/barley escape. Then I make an outer using the nicer fabric that the wheat filled inner sits in - I make it like a pillow case with the flap at the end so the inner doesn't fall out. I wash the fabric before cutting/sewing it. You can't use fabric with lycra in as it isn't safe to microwave - if you stick to 100% cotton you should be fine. I found some nice plain cotton velvet last year and made small pocket sized wheat bags for putting in coat pockets for walks/waiting at the bus stop in the cold as christmas presents...

You'll want to microwave it and let it cool a few times so the barley/wheat fully dries out - it will feel a bit clammy and damp the first few times you use it, so if it's a present you probably want to use it a bit before giving it away! I'd use this time to work out the duration to microwave it - large bags I do for 2-3 minutes (depending on how high powered the microwave is) small ones for pockets/inside wellies are more like 1 minute.

In theory you are supposed to occasionally microwave the bag with a cup of water in the microwave with it so it doesn't dry out too much and become flammable. That being said I have never done that, have used the same wheaty bag for around a decade and never had a problem with it... If you google wheaty bags you'll find all sorts of dire warnings about them catching fire "when covered with a duvet in bed" - as they supposedly "get hotter", but basic science tells you that isn't possible - wheaty bags "catching fire" in a bed would have to have been smouldering already when coming out of the microwave - so the key thing is to not overheat them. I personally find it hard to believe someone would set fire to it in a microwave, not notice when getting it out (they stink when they burn!) and then put it in a bed.. but as the darwin awards show, some people are a touch challenged in the IQ department...

To put smelly stuff like lavender buds in, I believe you need to properly dry them out first (if you're picking fresh lavender that is) by warming them in a low oven or in an airing cupboard. Best to google instructions for that as I haven't done it myself so can't give exact advice! If using pre-dried stuff then just add it into the wheat/barley mix when you fill the inner bag.

I found some basic instructions for making wheaty bags here if they are any use!

Alternatively there are some places online where you can buy kits e.g. here

I think you should definitely post a photo of you as boy george!!! I'm a total fancy dress hater - avoid it like the plague - but I love me some karaoke!! (I used to busk as a teenager though, so karaoke holds no fear for me). Your DS sounds super cute btw - "pay me nana" - hee hee, he will do well! :)

bats sonic over mario?! Good god, don't let my DP hear you say that! He's such a nintendo fanboy!!! Wink
I am also welling up over adverts. And children laughing as they run down the street. And songs on the radio. I nearly cried when I had lunch on the beach yesterday as it was just so nice... I'm not used to being an emotional wreck like this!!

Davina I can't decide if I want it to snow in October or not! I love snow, but it does really rather screw up our life as our road doesn't get gritted and I end up housebound once the virgin snow gets crushed down into slippery ice... I'm not at all convinced that the weather predictions are worth listening to anyway - they so rarely get long range forecasts right... Now snow at christmas, that I can most certainly get behind! I would absolutely love a white christmas!

Bun WOOO - sewing machine! That's great - do you know what one she got you? You have no excuse now you know!! Wink

And that's another whopping great essay from me - I really need to learn to be more succinct!! Grin

Oh - and the plumber is here right now installing the new boiler. I AM SO EXCITED!!! Grin

Carlitawantsababy · 01/10/2011 13:50

Aw fools your DS sounds so cute!that would've made me cry, I'm a sucker for cuteness at the moment, and babies of course, I've become a little addicted to all the nineties birth shows on home and health channel!
bats lol at your work rant! Too right though, your colleagues sound like they'd asked for it, being prompted repeatedly to do something does not make it happen faster! Yay for not being sick but boo for the birthing centre scenario. I didn't want a home birth at first because of it being my first but since reading ina May's guide to childbirth I've totally changed my mind and am aiming for a home birth, may be worth some extra research? Smile as for your taste in video-games... Shock!
bun hooray for the sewing machine!
davina I hope things get better when you go through your finances!
trope I have so far owned almost every nintendo console ever and currently own a working NES alongside DS and Wii, but I used to have a console which came out before the NES, I don't know what it was called but I only had donkey kong and it has big controllers like eighties car phones with number pad and a joy stick. The console itself had recesses in it for the controllers to live in. I know what you mean about the licensed characters in a nursery, it doesn't seem quite right! Those fabrics are great, pac man is the best! I'm on the hunt for acrylic coated cotton to make cushions for the Tripp trapp high chair I bought, if any one knows of any shops or websites that so a good range please let me know! Thanks for the wheat bag tips, I think I'll make some pocket sized ones for my sister who has hands like blocks of ice!
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend, DH is DIYing and has told me to go to bed Smile an odd aide effect of pregnancy for me is that I'd rather be indoors than outside in the amazing sunshine, I'm normally such a sun worshipper!

Ladies, I am shattered so will keep this brief. There is a photo of Fool George in my pictures. It is private. I shall add you all as friends so you can see it. Anyone I miss, let me know. I'm sorry and it won't be intentional but I've had a mere 2 hours sleep and had to walk dogs and clean the house today.

That being said, I will return to catch up with you all when I have caught up with my beauty sleep (I really need it!) in a few weeks days.

Carlitawantsababy · 02/10/2011 19:23

I can't see fool george! Please add me!
I spent day making a dress for my best friend's daughter who'll be 1 on Friday. I posted some pics of it and of the head band I got her. Hope you all had lovely weekends!

Sorry Carlita. I'm a prat and added you with a lower case 'c'. Fixed now, I hope. Did warn you I was tired! That dress is beautiful. Lovely fabric, the buttons are just amazing and the tag is just.... ok, I have run out of positive.... um.... words. Warned you I was tired!

Carlitawantsababy · 02/10/2011 21:43

Thanks, glad you liked the dress. Still can't see your pic but leave it till you've had some sleep! Smile

OP posts:

DH has fixed it. Apparently I am a dappy technology impaired cow. Although, maybe this is a sign that you guys aren't supposed to see it! The beer bottle was not mine by the way.

Thanks, Carlita. There were many better costumes, but I did mine on a shoestring so not complaining!

fools you make an awesome boy George!
mamma wow! Welcome back and huge congratulations!
carlita that sucks :( sorry you're stuck in bed.. Have you been there all day? I am collapsed on the sofa feeling shattered, spent most of the day sanding my front door (can't afford to replace the damn thing otherwise I so would..) then played squash with my dad (and he won, grrr, only 3-2 though, so close). DP is replaying something on the xbox (for the achievements, he's such a nerd! Wink ) and I suspect an early night may need to be had!

Carlitawantsababy · 03/10/2011 21:33

No, been at work, the PGP kicks in in the evening, I'm okay all day so could be worse. I'm now adding things to my pinterest boards which is keeping me entertained! Smile

OP posts:
trope · 03/10/2011 21:41

Hurrah for pinterest, however did we manage without it?! Wink

glad it's not pain all day, but it still sucks to lose your evenings to it. When I used to work full time & my health was bad I'd be asleep on the sofa before DP even got home, every single night... Really don't miss those days!

So when are you moving down to Hastings? Have you got a house sorted? I'm enjoying planning our nursery, not looking forward to clearing all my stuff out first, but can't wait to paint it and make it nice for fuzzy!

MammaInTheMaking · 03/10/2011 23:35

Hey trope yup I'm back! Quick work, eh?!

What are the back pains you have Carlita?

Don't know if anyone remembers my moan from last time when DP wasn't giving me the reaction I'd hoped...? Well this time he's really over the moon. Completely delighted! Which is making me real happy.
x

Carlitawantsababy · 04/10/2011 08:04

trope it sucks bit could be a lot worse! Plus I'm still happy and know that the baby's going to be worth it! That sounds terrible for you when your health was bad, does working part time help you to keep it under control these days? We've had another delay getting the flat on the market so will now be mid October, we'll move whenever it sells. We've decided to wait until we have a buyer to put an offer in on a house but my mum and step dad live there and know it inside out so we have local knowledge. The plan is that we'll do a few places up together to raise some money so most of my nursery decor will be fabric so we can keep the house neutral and take it with us! I made hundreds of metres of bunting in loads of fabrics to decorate our local pub for our wedding so am planning on using lots of that for a start. It's going to be so exciting to get a room set up isn't it?
mamma I think I have PGP, it's a one sided pain low low on back sort of buttock area! It's alright in the day and kicks in in the evening at which point I can't do anything. It appears to be affected by how much I've been doing as DH sent me off to bed on Saturday pretty much all day and I didn't get it at all. Anyway, I have my midwife appointment today so will get a physio referral and start getting better! I remember your DP being a little underwhelmed before, that's fantastic that he's so happy this time, I'm so pleased for you!
TMI alert: I've started lactating! 15+2 yesterday when I noticed it, sounds stinking, but a yellow crust in the centres of my nipples, googled it and yup, it's colostrum (not coliseum like my iPhone would like it to be) Grin

OP posts:
MammaInTheMaking · 04/10/2011 15:26

Hey Carlita. Just googled PGP and it sounds painful. I hope some physio pronto will really help you out with the pains... I'm guessing lactating at 15 weeks is very early?! Is it continuous or has it stopped now? Is this your first pregnancy btw?

I'm really not sure about my due date... Can anyone experienced help? I miscarried on 19/08/2011, ov stick was very positive on 16/09/2011. Did lots of SWI around that time, but also dtd the week before because i didn't really know what was happening.

Then 1 and only POAS was BFP on 03/10/2011. I may have another sneaky test tomorrow to double check.

When my cycles are normal they're 29 days long like clockwork.

So i'm presuming i'm 4+4. But it's been 6+4 since the MC (and therefore my last bleed).

Oh lordie, all these dates and numbers! Am not planning on seeing my GP for another couple of weeks (esp if i really am only 4+4 now).

Anyway, if anyone could point me in the right direction it'd be great Grin

Carlitawantsababy · 04/10/2011 15:55

mamma yes, it's excruciating! I've got NHS acupuncture (Grin) starting next week and referral for physio should take 4 weeks so hope to be getting better soon. I feel like 15 weeks is early to be lactating, I was surprised! Not constant at all, just noticed the dried colustrum. Yes, this'll be my first baby.
At a guess I'd say count from approx 2 weeks before your ov date of the 16th so making your date the 2nd and making you 4+4 today. Will you get an early dating/reassurance scan at 6 weeks?

midwife appointment was very unpleasant, she didn't know what PGP was and treated me like an anxious hypochondriac and was even quite sarcastic about it in my notes. I got a bit cross this afternoon and ended up texting her this:
Hi, I hope you don't take this the wrong way but the pain I'm having is very unlikely to be caused by hormones, that is actually a myth about pelvic girdle pain. There is a great website pelvicpartnership.org.uk that has tons of information about the condition, including which pelvic joints are affected. I'm not an anxious person or a hypochondriac, nor am I a regular patient of Dr Google but I feel that this is the impression you got of me. Next time I see you I will have had some treatment so will be more positive. Thanks, carlita
Needless to say I haven't heard back and have probably made my next appointment very unpleasant. It's in 2 weeks as guess what? I was too early for this one, needed to be 16 weeks and was 15+4. I'm too early for everything and I was so precise with my dates!
