thanks for the welcome! Grin
Bun that's lovely, what a great idea. My mum made me a patchwork quilt when i was tiny and i loved it.

I have my scan tomorrow, eeek bit scared, (nurse booked me a dating scan cos short period in august, but mainly as Dr refused the reassurance scan i was promised after mmc) keeping everything crossed this one's decided to stay and we get good news. Also praying I'm closer to 11weeks than the 7weeks i know i really am!

I've discovered toast in morning is loads better than biscuits! Felt awful all weekend. Slept most of Saturday! But then after toast and tea in bed care of DP, other than being exhausted i was up and out to work with small amount of nausea and no retching! wooooo Although hormones have worked overtime this weekend, i've turned into an easily irritated, offended irrational grumpy cow. I was whining about feeling ill Saturday and DP reminded me I'm not ill I'm pregnant! I hit the roof and was stropped and was ready to drive 3 hours to my parents late at night!!! That's not me!!! I don't like hormones!

To top it off I was working someone new today and got extremely lost on way home. Had to get the sat nav out, which took me down a narrow dead end in the arse end of nowhere, which took about a thousand point turn to get out of again! My 20min journey took an hour! To make it all a bit better, out of nowhere torrential rain appeared, windscreen fogged up... (i have a new car and only passed my test about 6 weeks ago so it's all still new to me!) had to find wipers, demister catch the sat nav, which decided to fall off the windscreen... resulting in panic and me hitting the curb (on country road so no one about not even a car thank God) scaring myself crapless. Think I might just get the bus next week!! I blame a friend who only hours before asked me if my car was still in one piece! It is but no thanks to the weather and bloody sat nav! :( Blush

Rant Over.

Hope everyone else had a better day! Grin

Davinaaddict · 27/09/2011 07:44

Hi Bun - glad you had a good birthday Smile. And another wedding - am a bit Envy as I love weddings and haven't been to one in AGES.

Well done on getting to 2.5 before the terrible 2's kicked in! I'm hoping we can nip it in the bud before DC2 arrives but I know thats being way too deluded optimistic Grin

I haven't managed to yet work out how to look at profile photos on my phone yet so that's a task for this mornings journey. Looking forward to seeing your scan photo though! Your DS sounds adorable - I had DH & DS kissing my bump the other day which was lovely, even if DS was only doing it to copy Daddy Grin
Love the photo of your quilt though, it's gorgeous! Very Envy of all you ladies with artistic skills - I'm far too much of a geek to be any good at sewing although I can just about manage a button or 2.

Ellie - it's completely normal to be finding your clothes a squeeze at that point. I found I bloated loads in the early week and then it settled down to become a proper little bump by about week 10. Either a bigger size or maternity would be fine, as you will probably need them for the first few weeks after baby arrives anyway. It took me about 6 months to get out of my mat wear after DS was born. I wasn't trying very hard though. I know the feeling on shopping - I've tried a few places including Manchester city centre & it's rubbish! I'd suggest online which is what I'm putting off at the moment & trying to make do with the stuff I already had. Sorry you're feeling rubbish.

Good luck for the scan Bats! It is such a lovely feeling, seeing baby and makes you Grin so much. Sorry about the hormones and the driving issues! I'd be lost without my satnav so can completely empathise. Also my hormones have been making me really cutting this time so I seem to be spending a lot of time apologising. Although if it's any consolation, it seems to be improving, I think or I'm just caring less

Hope you're all feeling blooming today Smile

Davinaaddict · 27/09/2011 08:12

Well not managed to figure it out yet, so I cheated and looked at it on the safari version - what a lovely scan!

foolserrand · 27/09/2011 08:39

Morning all! Just popping my head in, will try to stop in later but for now.... next has a decent sale on online for maternity stuff. Ds and I are heading shopping today because only one pair of trousers fit me! Have had a big ol spider freak out this morning. Imagine a grown woman sobbing on the stairs, then screaming when it got sucked into the dyson. I'm really not a fan of spiders. Ok, hope that makes you all smile. I'm off!

Hope everyone has a lovely, happy day!

BatsInTheSnowglobe · 27/09/2011 18:18

Had my scan this morning, which went really well. Unfortunately we went back a week so instead of being at least 7 weeks, I'm actually only 6 weeks +2, but blob is ok at the moment and we could see the teeny tiny heartbeat. Grin To begin with the sonographer couldn't find blob and said she might have to do an internal scan, so I told her to press as hard as she liked i promised i wouldnt wee on the bed! If they could find a 5week blob when i mc'd she could find this one.... and she did thank God! I hadn't shaved my bikini line!
So the digital tests was bullshit when it told me over 2 weeks ago I was over 5 weeks!! It lied! But we had a heartbeat so we're really happy and excited, if not a bit scared now at the realisation we could actually end up with a baby in May!! Confused

loving the image of the spider haha

Hope everyone else has had a good day.

elliebug · 27/09/2011 18:54

fools have got 2 pairs of jeans from next full price but i normally get jeans from there as they are the only place that fits! have another sale pair arriving tomorrow so 3 pairs should last for the next year (allowing time post bump to lose weight)

bats thats very exciting, i dont even have my booking appt for another nearly 2 weeks!! so no scan till im 8/9 weeks, at least they shouldnt need to do an internal one (yuck)

off to turn up my short length trousers now :o

BatsInTheSnowglobe · 27/09/2011 23:00

I can't wait for my 12 weeks scan now, 6 weeks seems so far away! I got my booking in appointment through with the midwife too, think it's in 2 weeks time, although annoyingly it clashes with DP's birthday so need to try and change it! grrr

PiggyMad · 28/09/2011 12:40

Hi ladies!

Hope everyone is well.
Love the quilt bun very cute! And also very jealous of the 22-week mark Grin!

bats congratulations on your scan and little bean being well! It must be crap having to 're-do' a week. Am hoping I don't get put back on my 12-week scan (actually at 13 weeks) next Thursday - eeek! Nervous about it now!

ellie I'm incredibly bloated around my tum. First thing on a morning all is relatively flat, but after breakfast things get progressively worse. Not helped by the fact I am struggling in the toilet department Blush. My legs and bum have also grown Sad

davina how sweet about your ds kissing the bump - bless him! Am also not at all creative unfortunately, also crap at cooking and baking so not much going for me in the housewife department!!

I think I have caught some germs from you ladies! Woke up with a sore throat this morning and that 'ill' cold taste at the back of my throat. Did a mad dash to Sainsy's and got some lemons, acacia honey, ginger, smoothies, paracetamol, copious amounts of fruit, custard and yoghurt! I like to be prepared Grin. Hoping that I might nip any potential cold in the bud with oj, smoothies, lemon, ginger and honey tea.

toddle · 28/09/2011 15:17

Well hello my long lost friends. I've finally got the required two lined pee stick to join you guys if you will have me Smile

foolserrand · 28/09/2011 16:12

Dammit toddle. Was just running in here to plump some pillows for you but you beat me! Congrats again dear, amazing news. Does daddy-to-be know yet? Add yourself to the stats!

ghosteditor · 28/09/2011 16:23

congratulations toddle! it's so exciting, isn't it Grin. I used a couple of clearblue digitals for my BFP but sadly the text fades after a few weeks. After that, it's just a urine-soaked bit of plastic, which is kind of creepy to keep! I'm 25 weeks now so the BFP time is only a fond memory...

toddle · 28/09/2011 17:27

Wow 25 weeks that's like a seasoned pro! Feels really strange.

Haha does he know I only told him like a thousand times already GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Dont worry fools you can bring me some imaginary pregnancy safe flu tablets if you would like. Be far more useful then a plumped cushion. Sods law that is had a cold for past few days went to boots today spent a fortune drugged my self up and could breathe then bang bfp now it's all got to sit in a cupboard until next year.

BatsInTheSnowglobe · 28/09/2011 18:25

Piggy custard?!

Congratulations toddle Grin

I was sick this morning. It's like my body has said right you got a heartbeat y'day that means this is real... puke... 3 times this morning and quite projectile too. sorry tmi... can go further though, somehow i only puked up the water i drank (and stomach acid) and kept the toast and tea, never had selective puking before!! Confused

Davinaaddict · 28/09/2011 21:35

Fantastic news about the scan Bats! Love the promise of not weeing on the bed Grin These medical appointment are rude aren't they, with their clashes? I've got my 20 week scan the day before my birthday, my consultants appointment on my birthday, and flu jab the Saturday of my birthday night out! Haven't a hope in changing them, so going to have to suck it up unfortunately - hope you manage to change yours.

Hi Piggy! Try not to worry about your scan. Mine was at 13 weeks and was put back by 1 day, so hopefully you'll be the same. Love the cold 'remedies' - always a challenge for us pregnant ladies! Particularly like the custard one - will have to get some for medicinal purposes I think Grin

Yay - congrats & welcome Toddle!! I was just reading the conception thread earlier and hoping you would be joining us! Sorry you're feeling crappy though. Hope the cold buggers off soon for you.

Bats - just read that as Piggy custard and it made me Grin. Like the selective puking though - once you work out what sets you off, you should be able to stop it (maybe that's wishful thinking, but got to keep positive) Seriously though, hope it stops soon.

Had my MW app this morning - all good as I had a different MW this time so all tests done and now don't have to back until 28 weeks which will be 21st Dec Shock. Although of course I'll see my consultant at 20 weeks.

Had a bit of a traumatic realisation today of the financial kind - there's a possibility that this year we'll be pushed up to the higher tax bracket & next year we will definitely be Shock. I know we're very lucky to have a wage that warrants it, but we've not got a huge amount of disposable income now, and once that hits we'll be worse off than we are now, will also lose child benefit and have to somehow fund extra childcare, when I go back to work. We've no debt other than the mortgage but we won't be able to move because of house prices and don't have many luxuries now we can cut back on Sad. If inflation carries on as it is doing I don't know what we'll do. I know it will all work out in the end or we'll live off beans on toast for months but just extra stress I don't need now. I just need to be patient & wait until I know how much of an issue it will be, so I can re-budget. Sorry for the unreasonable & selfish rant Blush Sad

Carlitawantsababy · 28/09/2011 21:54

GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinyay toddle! welcome and congratulations! Fantastic news! GrinGrinGrinGrin
Love the quilt bun, totally amazing!
Mmm... I'd really like some custard now! Smile
I'm suffering a bit in the evenings, pretty much bed bound when I get in from work due to what I think is PGP, has anyone else had it, it's awfully painful! Sad I'm going to contact my midwife who I'm due to meet on Tuesday for a physio appointment as have read that immediate treatment is best!
Hope everyone else is well! Grin

Carlitawantsababy · 28/09/2011 21:56

Oh, bats I got my booking in appointment changed no bother at all so hopefully you'll be fine.
toddle can't stop grinning now, so happy for you! Grin

OP posts:
PiggyMad · 28/09/2011 22:12

Congratulations toddle! Welcome to the board Grin

davina I've got my head about 10 feet under the sand at the minute about finances! It's awful worrying about money, but all I keep thinking is that people manage and babies don't have to be expensive - childcare issues aside!

well done on keeping the brekkie down bats and custard is just the thing I am craving at the minute, plus all that calcium must help the immune system, right?!

Pain sounds nasty carlita - also is that quite early for pgp to develop? Hope it isn't that Sad. Could it be sciatica instead?

TMI ladies, but all of my smoothies, lemon juice, honey and hot water, dried apricots and activia yoghurts have had the added bonus of curing the constipation - quite dramatically! No longer bunged up, but might ease up on the fibre now Blush

BunMyOven · 29/09/2011 08:44

Congratulations Toddle!! So happy for you Grin

Congratulations on the scan too Bats! Must be a weight off your shoulders Smile Bummer about going back a week though! I was chuffed at my dating scan because I'd got the day spot on and the midwife was 2weeks out Grin

Davina, hopefully it's just a phase with your DS. How gorgeous that him and your DH were kissing your bump - adorable!

Not an unreasonable rant at all, it sounds bloody stressful!! Things have got really tight for us too lately, well, more than normal, rent gone up etc. People may say "well you're lucky to earn enough to be in the higher tax band, blah blah blah" but it's only nice if your outgoings aren't too high to be able to see some of those earnings at the end of the month! It's all relative. Hope things are looking up for you soon. It really will work itself out - and that's speaking as someone who was homeless with a 6mo for a couple of months(! that was through redundancy though so don't panic! Grin), you do, and will, just make it work somehow.

Thanks everyone, really should have finished the patchwork by now but didn't touch it for about a year at one point Blush Need to invest in a sewing machine soon though (any suggestions on what to look for? I've never used one before, am a total novice at all this!) if I want to turn it into anything other than a wall hanging! Grin

Urgh spiders am a total wimp with anything insecty, even butterflies. Am really conscious of not passing fears on to DS though so have to sit there talking about how amazing the spider in the bath is (whilst screaming on the inside).

23 weeks tomorrow, scary!

ghosteditor · 29/09/2011 10:27

Bun there must be something about pregnancy that makes us resume all the crafts (for me it was being unable to go play hockey several times a week - all that time to fill now!). I just bought a sewing machine a few weeks ago as my hand-sewing is really shoddy, which just means it takes ages and then looks rubbish!

I spoke to my local sewing shop and they said to try freecycle, but I wanted it NOW and also needed instruction booklets etc. In the end I bought a Brother X5 from Argos, which was about £80. That's loads cheaper than anything the sewing shop recommended and is more than adequate for my needs - it has 14 stitches (I've only used a few of them) and is perfectly reliable. I've hemmed jeans with it too so it is reasonably sturdy. I'm sure it's not for all day use but then I don't need it for that!

Carlitawantsababy · 29/09/2011 17:47

piggy PGP can develop in the first trimester so certainly not early. 50% of women get it to some degree too so very common! Sciatica is very often wrongly diagnosed when it's actually PGP, only 2 % of women actually get sciatica in pregnancy. Been doing lots of reading! Grin

OP posts:
PiggyMad · 29/09/2011 17:58

Didn't know that carlita - I associated it with the end of pregnancy and getting bigger. Does it mean the earlier it starts then the worse it is likely to end up? I've got no knowledge of it at all. Hope the doc sorts you out!

trope · 29/09/2011 18:06

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TODDLE!!! WOOO! Welcome welcome welcome!! so happy to have you join us! Grin I'm so so pleased that you finally got your BFP - massive, enormous, huge congratulations!

Right, been away for a whole week - had a rather crappy weekend and have been sick still for most of the week and just couldn't face doing anything really. On the mend at last now though, so that's good!

So - to catch up!

carlita - following you right back on pinterest - will have a good nosy through your pins this evening! :)

I love your scan pic - it's just amazing - I hope I get one that good!!

Piggy The heaty slippers sound great - I had a similar pair with the hot insert going over the top of the toes, but they weren't very warm apart from that so I usually just wear enormous fluffy bed socks and have a wheaty bag wrapped around my feet instead!

bats you could make your own wheaty bag - you can even make them with things other than wheat; I made some last year using pearl barley from the supermarket! You can buy sterilised wheat online though I believe if you want to. I don't get on well with fragranced things - so prefer plain wheat bags, hence making my own! I've got to make a new cover for DPs one and have managed to buy some pac man fabric to cover it!! (We both work in the games industry & are massive nerds...) I'm something of a wheaty bag addict!

ghost & bun - is so nice to have folks on here that are further along! Can't believe you guys are 20+ weeks already - how time flies!! Do you find that bump supports actually help? I don't need one yet but as I get a lot of back pain from the arthritis I was wondering if one might be a good idea later on...

bun that quilt is amazing!! Grin I have a sewing machine - it's a pfaff hobby 1142 - I asked my mum for a cheapy machine for xmas a few years ago so I could make wheaty bags/do basic repairs more easily and she got a bit carried away and got me a good one (she used to make her own clothes back in the 60/70s so is keen to encourage me & my sisters with all things sewing related!). You're welcome to come buy and use it to finish your quilt if you want! I'm no expert on it, but am determined to use it more this winter and get better! Ideally i'd really like to make some super cute baby clothes (inspired by carlita and her awesome dungarees!)

fools you sound like me! I'm not good at all with spiders - i've got an electronic spider deterrent in the kitchen but i'm not at all sure it's working sadly (was desperate - have had horrendous invasion of monster spiders this year). I have to extend the vacuum cleaner hose to the longest setting before I can hoover one up! Then I leave it going for a little while to make absolutely sure it's dead!! Poor DP is going to get back from his long trip to NY in November to a vacuum cleaner full of dead spiders!! No way can I empty it!!

davina - I know exactly how you feel with the finances. Feel absolutely free to vent here - we are also having financial worries, DP has been offered a permanent job, but it's in central london so I'll be home alone with a baby for 12+ hours a day monday to friday and while the salary sounds good in an abstract way, when you actually break it down and look at net income and our outgoings - well, it isn't that good. I know we're lucky compared to many but that doesn't actually make you feel that much better when you are worrying about borrowing money if anything goes wrong. We are trying very very hard to put money away for a rainy day, but we want to pay my folks back first...

Speaking of which - the boiler is here and is being installed on Saturday!! HURRAY!!! I can't believe my luck with this amazing weather in the meantime though - was so worried I was going to freeze, instead I'm sat here in shorts!!

I'm now trying to get quotes for re-rendering the front of the house and painting it all - it's like pulling teeth trying to get people to reply to enquiries, let alone come out and do a quote. Had one guy here today though who seemed good and can start pretty quickly, so am hopeful. Now just need to try and find someone to do the cavity wall insulation that doesn't have a 4 week lead time!!

carlita the PGP sounds horrible. I don't think I have it, but the arthritis has attacked my sacroiliac joints a lot over the last decade, as well as my hips in the last few years. I've noticed a definite increase in pain from that area over the last few days and a weird weak feeling in the pelvic joints, so I suspect something is going on. Am going to mention it to my obst when I see her at 14 weeks. Hope your DP is taking good care of you and you get some physio ASAP!

I'm doing OK now the cold is abating, I have a more definite bump, which is there no matter what now, plus the frequent bloat that comes up around it, my previously baggy summer shirts are now tight around the middle - it's really getting very hard to conceal now! I'm napping most afternoons still - just flake out and am no use to anyone! I figure once I hit the 2nd trimester i'll hopefully feel better, so might as well just accept that i'm going to be a bit crap and useless for a few more weeks and not feel bad about it!! DP is being amazing, coming home from work and cooking, taking really good care of me. I feel very lucky.

Am looking forward to a hot and sunny weekend in Hove - have to get to the beach one last time! :) Hope you all have fun things planned for your weekends! Grin

Carlitawantsababy · 29/09/2011 19:44

Ooh, trope where did you get the pac man fabric? Been looking for good space invaders fabric for baby clothes but that sounds good. I have Pac man socks Grin

piggy there are quite a few causes of PGP, can be baby weight but can be other things too, hypermobility is one of the causes and I am hypermobile (to the highest score level) in all of my joints so think that's probably what's doing it. The pregnancy hormone relaxin relaxes all your ligaments but my hypermobility means mine already have too much movement so the pain is being caused by my pelvis sort of coming apart when I walk or stand! Physio can help by teaching me ways to 'lock' my pelvis so that it stops coming apart! It is treatable so I'm trying to stay positive about it!

OP posts:
Carlitawantsababy · 29/09/2011 19:52

trope did you see the mario nursery on my pinterest?!

OP posts:
foolserrand · 29/09/2011 22:14

Feel I have been somewhat absent recently. Did promise to catch up a few days ago but it was far too daunting for my sleepy mind so trying now. Really sorry if I miss anyone/thing but there's a helluva lot to get through. We all talk far too much. :o

Trope great news that you're feeling better. I tried tiger balm, really helped with the congestion... until I spread a little under my nose. I singed my skin. Definitely do not recommend that one! Even better that the boiler is going to be sorted during this scary heat wave. We are busy getting quotes too, planning an extension. Must be mad considering the winter we are apparently due. Still, ds, dogs and myself shall be moving in with the folks while the worst bits are going on. Don't know who to feel worse for, dh for being stuck at home alone or my parents who will be ripped from their quiet, clean world with the invasion of a noisy, sticky toddler and 2 big, slobbering hounds.
How do you make a wheaty/pearl barley bag? Just stitch a bag and fill with the ingredients? How do you make it smell, assuming you are into that sort of thing? Sorry, but think it is a truly fantastic idea and can get a few free presents out of that!
How terrible that your spider machine isn't working. I admit to being a tad skeptical when I looked at your link, it seemed too good to be true. I really hoped I was wrong though. I also use the vacuum. My poor dyson is currently imprisoned in the box room (soon to be baby's room!) With no hope of reprieve. Daren't allow my irrational fears to breach the generation gap so am forced to go eyeball to eyeball with the freaky, nightmare inducing mutant bugs while ds counts legs, exclaims gleefully how wonderful they are and demands they are safely released back into the wild.

Piggy love the idea of heated slippers. Hard to imagine them being particularly appealing at the moment though!

Carlita your scan photo ies incredible. Fingers crossed we are all so lucky! Awful that you're in pain though. Hope its not PGP, the way you have descibed it it sounds horrendous. Good that its treatable, hope physio helps quickly. The Mario nursery sounds unbelievably cool!

As for us, I am loving being pregnant but now remembering the hell I went though last time. Bad body issues, out of control, suffering from near constant stupid wobbles wondering if dh is the love of my life. It's the hormones, I know that. Ds keeps making me weep by saying daft little things. I'm irritable, elated, miserable, stunning, fat, full of energy, exhausted, super mum, rubbish..... Phew! Think I have lost it! Still, need to believe that keeping busy will stop all this, only problem is that I have no motivation! Gah! Tomorrow is Friday so at least I get dh for the weekend making more mess than ds and dogs combined. Oh, almost forgot, got my friend's birthday party on Saturday. Karaoke (oh dear god) and Chinese. And, true to form, fancy dress. Pop and rock icons. I will be.....wait for it..... Boy George circa 1987. I'm going to look like a total tit, but it will hide bump and bloat at least! Promise to consider uploading a photo in exchange for sizeable bribes. :o

Alright, I think I have written enough. I hope I have not left anyone out.

Oh, Toddle congratulations again, and here...Biscuit and Thanks to make you feel better quickly.
