Yay! Another graduate - congratulations Bats!!! Grin

For my first pregnancy I really liked Your Pregnancy Bible by Anne Deans & the MN pregnancy book. But I haven't dug them out if the loft yet this time Smile. I still get a lot of info from Baby Centre & MN though.

Let us know how the scan goes!

Carlitawantsababy · 23/09/2011 10:19

Yay! Welcome bats great to have you here! How's the baby treating you so far?
I think the MN guide has been my favourite general pregnancy book (I've read quite a few!) and also loved Ina May's guide to childbirth and guide to breastfeeding but you only want the childbirth one if you're a bit of a hippy! Wink

I have no idea! It was only one of the vials so it must have been a dirty vial/dodgy seal or something Confused

i have finally caught up with posts and wow, i feel like i know you all so well now! so i feel it only right i should share a little about me/my opinion on whats already been said!!! have gone by topic as i can't really remember who said what, sorry

i was amused by the sam & ella comments, my OH is called sam and i'll let you use your imagination as to my name :o

maternity bras, i've made the move too, which is depressing at only 6 weeks but by boobs demanded it and i got 2 for 12.50 from mothercare very pretty but not sure if they will be ok under my uniform!!! i was a E cup pre pregnancy so who knows where i will end up....

i don't have a dog to catch spiders but my hamster made very short work of a dead one not so long ago, hope she does the same for a real one! not come across too many recently! failing that i can usually manage a glass and paper to throw them out the window! i dont think my rabbits would help!!

my bump (although i dont really have one, my flabby bits have just got harder) is called peanut!

trope, sorry to hear about boiler, we had a new one last year so i feel you pain both money wise and associated stress.

think that covers most of the things that stuck in my head!
i was also wondering when i could start getting baby related things!! think i should prob wait a bit longer, my mum had lots of mc and as she is my only living female (blood) relative i'm a little worried! my maternity bra and some mum2b body lotions sanctury ones from boots, (thanks to whoever reminded me i LOVE that stuff but its normally a little expensive) will prob satisfy this need desire for a while.

oh also, i am totally envious of all you who as thinking about home/water births! i am fully expecting to be induced at 38 weeks, strapped to a monitor only to have things go worng or not progress and have an emergency c section. i know this is prob worst case but i am mentally planning for this then if it doesnt happen and i can have a successful induction or planned c section it'll be a nice supprise (i'm under consultant care cos of health probs and think i am prob already a high risk preg :( )

ps wow thats long, sorry again!

trope · 23/09/2011 16:16

hey piggy - what a shame you missed the wedding!! :(

sorry you folks can't follow me on pinterest - i'm itching to have a nosy at all of your boards back!! Grin Hope they fix it soon!!

hi bats and ellie - nice to have some more graduates join us! :)
bats keeping my fingers crossed for you that all goes well on Tuesday :)

There are quite a few first timers on this thread so we can all freak out about the whole "OMFG a baby - what do I do with that???" feelings that we get from time to time! Wink Not to mention liveblog our labours!! Grin

ellie - another high risk preg here - totally understand your attitude to the birth - i'm a "hope for the best, prepare for the worst" kind of person too - quite a lot of my family & friends don't get that - think it's negative, but for me I feel far less stressed and unhappy if I have the worst case scenario planned out in my head and know how I'll handle it! More often than not things go better than that and I get to feel happy, even if it wasn't perfect! :)

My mum also had lots of miscarriages - I asked my obstetrician about this and she said that it's highly unlikely that this will increase my chance of miscarrying - genetic/inherited reasons for miscarriage are rare - was probably just really bad luck on my mum's part that she lost so many babies... (not least as she successfully carried 4 pregnancies to term, me & my 3 younger sisters!) They never got to the bottom of why my mum miscarried so many times in a row, if they know why your mum miscarried though your obstetrician should be able to tell you if it affects you or not! :) Hope that helps! :)

books - I have "what to expect when you're expecting" - which is fine, pretty clear and factual, bit dry in places and a bit preachy about diet, but it's got some nice week by week info about the babies growth/progress etc so I find myself looking at it most weeks to see what fuzzy is up to each week!

Am updating my dates as my consultant & midwife came up with a different date to my GP!!

ellie - your baby is due on my DPs birthday!! Grin

In other news - we ordered the boiler this afternoon! HURRAH! Waiting to hear back from plumber about when he will be available to fit it - am hoping for 1st October as it's starting to get cold down here in Hove!!

BatsInTheSnowglobe · 23/09/2011 18:42

Thanks for the welcomes and the book suggestions.

Congratulations ellie

To be blunt I'm feeling quite crap, very nauseous mostly in the morning. Feel bit better after lunch then kicks in again in the evening! Very bloated and windy to point where OH commented last night i was showing... ummm no that's just wind and fat, but thanks we'll pretend it's baby (he knows no different and isn't about to read a book about it!) But my sister suggested i eat rich tea biscuits and drink tea in bed before even sitting up, so i tried it and it really works. Still feel shitty but nowhere near as bad as it was beginning of the week. So now OH has a morning ritual of dumping tea by me before he says bye, told him it's his fault i feel ill so he has to mend me... to which he walks off muttering you bloody asked for it! Grin He has been great bless him and has told me i have to stay in bed tomorrow! wooohooooo Wonder how long it will last!!

Carlitawantsababy · 23/09/2011 20:05

OP posts:
PiggyMad · 23/09/2011 21:17

Hi ladies!
Lovely to see more new faces Grin Also a first-timer ellie so am not at all prepared for this pregnancy/birth/baby lark!

I've only got one book - it's The Day by Day Pregnancy Book. I've got the Ina May Gaskill birth book out from the library at the minute, but OH is not at all keen on the homebirth idea. I think we might compromise on a midwife-led unit. I'd like a water birth but a bit concerned that the pool might not be available at the time.

Am with you about the wind bats My poor DH has to wind me every night Blush Good practice for the baby though Wink

Non-preg related, but I ordered some slippers that have just arrived - they have a lavender warming pouch that you put in the microwave and then you slip it in a pouch in the soles of the boot. They are fantabulous (made-ip word I know, but they are that good)!! I've had them on all afternoon and DH keeps periodically warming them up for me Grin

BatsInTheSnowglobe · 23/09/2011 21:58

Oh Piggy they do sound fab... I once had a lovely lavender smelling wheat bag thingy only i burnt it in the microwave so now it just smells burnt! :(

Hadn't thought about asking OH to wind me...

I think i am genuinely in for a big shock when we get a real life baby to take home. I just found out that the midwife led unit i wanted to go to might have closed down by may! Bastards. So i've informed OH he's to book me into the Portland so I can have a tummy tuck at the same time! He asked how much that would cost... then I think the words that came out suggested that he wouldn't be booking me in. So selfish! Grin

Carlitawantsababy · 23/09/2011 22:38

I've posted 13 week scan pic if anyone wants a look!

OP posts:
BatsInTheSnowglobe · 23/09/2011 22:46

wow how exciting Carlita. Everything going well then?

BatsInTheSnowglobe · 23/09/2011 22:47

I have an extremely important question... Can I dye my hair during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy? My roots are starting to show! Blush

Carlitawantsababy · 24/09/2011 09:29

yes bats everything's going great thanks, had the scan a week ago but didn't get around to posting it.
Hair dye is a tricky one, very mixed claims. I think generally it is okay but you may want to take a few precautions, if you are home dying, holland and barrett sell a range of dyes with less chemicals and ask someone (who you have told) to help you carefully apply it with a brush so as to avoid touching your scalp. I went for the other option at 5 weeks as my hair was bleached White blonde (my hair is actually light brown) I went to the hair dresser and asked them to dye my blonde hair to the same colour as my roots without dying my roots or touching my scalp so now have my natural hair colour for the first time in about 15 years! (wasn't always blonde, I just get bored easily)! Grin

OP posts:
BatsInTheSnowglobe · 24/09/2011 12:05

lol ditto my hair hasn't seen it's natural colour since i was 18, i get bored of hair colour easily too! Think it would prob be more grey than i realise if i let it grow out!! Maybe I should splash out and go to the hair dressers!

Carlitawantsababy · 24/09/2011 17:38

I would bats then you don't need to worry yourself, you can go back to DIY when you've past the 12 week mark! Smile

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 25/09/2011 17:04

Welcome to the list, bats!

How's everyone doing? At 24 weeks, I'm starting to feel very pg all of a sudden; I've had a busy weekend and been on my feet a lot, and my bump is just so heavy! Might invest in a bump support I think...

Davinaaddict · 25/09/2011 20:15

Hi Ellie - congratulations! Sorry to hear you and Bats are feeling rubbish, hopefully it will pass soon.

Wow ghost - 24 weeks!! That's gone so quickly! Sounds like a bump band could be a good idea if you're spending a lot of time on your feet - I'm spending as little time as possible on mine Grin

Carlita - what a LOVELY picture!

Things are good in the Davina household - bump is growing nicely, DH is being an absolute star, but DS is starting with the terrible 2's at 20 months Confused Can't have everything I suppose! Hope everything is going well with all of you ladies Smile

BunMyOven · 26/09/2011 09:14

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I had a lovely day Smile Sorry I've been away for so long (again), my energy levels have taken a nose dive over the last week so I've been a bit of a grump. Feeling a bit better today though Smile

Went to another wedding on Saturday (the second this month!), it was DP's boss's wedding and was absolutely beautiful. I only knew DP and the groom (met him briefly a handful of times), not even the bride(!) so was a bit nervous about going (I'm pretty shy at the best of times) but had a fantastic day and drove the bride's lovely grandma home at the end of it Grin

Have uploaded a picture from 20week scan - only two weeks late, sorry! It's not a great image, not sure how much you'll be able to make out, but we can see the mouth, eyes and nose really clearly in the original picture. It's lovely Smile DS keeps on asking to see it and giving it lots of hugs and kisses, bless him Smile

Trope great to hear you're getting your boiler sorted, it's going to be just in time, definitely getting colder in Hove isn't it. Hello autumn/winter, shame we weren't reacquainted with summer for long this year!

Welcome and congratulations to Bats and Ellie! Lovely to have some more graduates on the thread Smile

Carlita am now following you on Pinterest and have repinned a few things.

I'm 22 weeks now, can't believe how fast it's going! Have put on 6lbs so far, happy with that as I'm a size 16 (was 16/18 pre preg!) so will hopefully keep the weight gain to a minimum. I'm definitely feeling the strain in the tummy area too Ghost.

Davina, my DS has started the old 'terrible two's' too - although, he's 2.5yo so I can't really complain! 20months! Bloody hell is he testing us at the moment though!

Sorry, I've missed lots out!

BunMyOven · 26/09/2011 10:25

Have tried uploading a picture of my little patchwork project that I'm making for DS but the website won't let me Sad Have contacted them and will try again later so fingers crossed!
Am a little proud of it as it's my first proper attempt at sewing anything other than buttons and repairing seams! Grin I've gone in at the deep end with a hexagonal patchwork of my own design and all from scratch! Shock Can't wait to get the bugger finished though (I'm hand sewing it so it's taking for ever)!

BunMyOven · 26/09/2011 10:49

OK. Well, I got impatient . . . here it is Grin

elliebug · 26/09/2011 15:33

bun that quilt looks beautiful, i have all the stuff to make a cot blanket size quilt, must get started!!!

also, i'm struggling to fit into mu trousers alredy!! before i could fit into a 14 but my 16 were more confy, now my 16's are tight and uncomfy! is this normal for 6+3???? going on holiday next week and i have no idea what i'll wear and am thinking i might just get maternity trousers now rather than just a bigger size! and suggestions of good places? no where near me seems to stock maternity anymore :(

hope everyone is feeling well, i manages 3/4 of a sandwich today so things are getting better!!
