Well another night and morning of wrestling around. I fear I may be knackered by time baby comes!

Zig http://pregnancyandparents.org.uk/contact-us/ it's here

Just startin Just to chime in. I'm sure you will be absolutely fine so try not to worry if you can. These things happen- don't panic Mr Mainwaring!

Hello everyone else

Folicacid · 06/08/2011 05:26

When will I learn how to link properly first time? Gah.

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 06/08/2011 07:13

Good morning all,

Folic, I would have def been up for the sling meet, but my inlaws visiting that weekend and although I might have been totally ready to leave them to DH and go do something more fun, me fears that that might be a tad rude, hope that it goes well though :)

Just, I agree with everyone else, I wouldnt worry too much about eating something that was only half cooked, if it had been chilled properly before am sure it will be fine :)

DH and I are off to our first NCT class today, hope this is useful and I learn a lot, am a total first timer so fingers crossed that it goes well and that we meet some nice people, dont know many people round here so part of the reason that we signed up was to get to know people as well as learn about the world of pain I am in for in three months time!!!

cep · 06/08/2011 08:21

morning ladies,

we took the side off ds's bed about the 2yr mark i think, (can't really remember might have been before that.) we put a lindam side guard on for the first few months then took that off, he's fallen out twice in a year so not bad, and now we've got rid of his nighttime nappies this last week, and no accidents. yay.

caz glad to see you're ok.

lk hope you enjoyed having dh home for the two nights, and aren't to bad when he goes back again.

PamSco · 06/08/2011 08:23

Morning all. Woke up struggling with my hips today, not in some WWF wrestiling move but I walked a bit far yesterday and everything is complaining.

Saw a caberet show at the Edinburgh festival and baba was kicking like mad at the filthy but very funny female songstress. I know he was probably reacting to my laughter but Ive got it stuck in my head he's going to like Bette Midler or Joan Rivers!

Ali brilliant birth story, she must have ignored the 1st stage of labour being busy. That's what I hope I can do, fingers crossed.

snoozle I was very uncomfortable sleeping, especially early on but bought a dream genii pillow. I wasn't conceived at first It was any than pillows until I ditched it after a while fir pillows and just couldn't sleep. Also I recently changed the side of the bed I sleep on and strangely that's made a huge difference to my sleeping!

Alicat I LOVE your friends birth story. 1.5 hrs sounds good to me! Lol I think dc2 is supposed to be easier. It was the same with my neighbour. Woke up at 8am with contractions, by 11am she'd had a hoke birth and mw had cleaned up and gone!

twojack good luck for the NCT class today

Off to see a photographer this afternoon. Very early I know but we walked past their studio on a sunday and they had the most amazing and tasteful newborn pics in the window, so I rang and she invited us down for coffee and a look at their work, so I couldn't refuse! Aparently the best time to have to photos done is the first 14 days after birth. Anyone else planning newborn pics?

PamSco · 06/08/2011 09:09

Collie I am considering photos now after your post - perfect christmas presents for Grandmamas!

CollieandPup · 06/08/2011 09:14

pam this should sell it - obv just the newborn ones!!! Soooooo cute! I agree, amazing crimbo gifts!

SnoozleDoozle · 06/08/2011 10:14

Chipmonkey I had to laugh at your contortionist link, because I feel like I've tried that position already - I've been twisted into all sorts of shapes in an attempt to get comfy!

Thanks to whoever gave me the tip on trying to keep my legs straight, rather than bending them, that definitely seems to have helped.

voodoomunkee · 06/08/2011 11:44

For some reason after seeing the mention of cake I would absolutely kill for Coffee Cake!! Argghhh I had plans for tidying up and glossing woodwork today, not baking!

Has just occured to me that I am 27 weeks next week. Where is the time going? Cannot wait for the 15th as am secretly planning a bit of a day off and a girly shopping day with dd1. Just a Primarni visit to get some leggings for work and a couple of packs of cheap knickers etc and some stuff for the hospital bags.... I will feel so much better when I have them sorted. I know it is really really early but I am such a planner! Am one of these people that would rather be an hour early than 5 mins late!

Very tired. I really miss a decent nights sleep. 3 hours, wake up, lie there, curse that I am awake, try to fall back asleep, do so an hour later, wake up 3 hours later, either realise with a panic that have lsept in a little or realise that actually I dont need to be up and feel like ctying cos I know I might as well get up and do some washing or something! Sound familiar to anyone? Have a lovely day everyone :)

YouDoTheMath · 06/08/2011 12:10

Hello all, I'm due on 16 Nov with my second. Unfortunately the HR lady went mad when she found out I was off on mat leave, as I only returned in April after my first! Ah well...

Anyway, thought I'd just pop in to say hello. So hello!

voodoomunkee · 06/08/2011 14:29

Hiya YouDoTheMath! Welcome! Am sure the HR lady will recover, not that you will be there to notice as you will be off on Maternity Leave :)

It has not stopped raining for ages. Dullsville. Cant be bothered to make a cake either. Where is my motivation/energy?

Have been reading the what to pack thread on discussions of the day and am wondering if anyone here has an essential they couldn't do without last time/something they are desperate to take? Either for labour or afterwards? Mine is lip balm and a hair scrunchie. I have no pride when am in labour and that Gas n Air doesnt half make my mouth dry! Also I have really quite long madly curly hair which needs no coaxing to become insane.

Poppet45 · 06/08/2011 17:36

voodoomonkey Loving the tale of a bump dweller doing laps with a swimming cap on!! Great mental picture :) Caz so glad you're all fine and well. Welcome Youdothemath, m'eh it's not your HR lady's job to do her nut, it's her job to sort things out for you.
Had a great day here, just picked up our second hand Baby Jogger and it's in brilliant condition. Only just over a year old as it was the seller's second buggy after her first was a disaster. She also gave us two buggy liners and the raincover. Woot, woot! It's so light and lovely to manouvre after the Loola, I feel about two months less pregnant! Astounding. Also our first trip to Glasgow and I was soo impressed. It's a fab city and we shall be back.
Then when we got home our Phil and Ted's cocoon had arrived. It again looks perfect and DS has been squeezing into it pretending to nap, with his backside in the air. Too funny. We got the cocoon from Tesco's Direct and it's only £39 at the moment! Bargainous. And Baby Jogger fans, they're also selling the city mini buggy for just £175. Was mildly gutted after spotting that about a week after we've plumped for an eBay one. I've not seen it that cheap anywhere new, they did have the black one on for just £99 in their summer sale but it's sold out (secretly glad as we paid more than that second hand and I'd have been sick as a dog).

juststarting · 06/08/2011 17:42

I too have, er, bountiful hair (read giant frizzy mess) and was shocked when it stayed back in its bun right through labour. Jelly babies, I had, for sugar (cheaper than the glucose pills, though I had some of those too). Other than that it was just me and my body. You know, and a midwife, my partner, the birthing pool, a pump, a pan of water, a tap, a hob, a thermometer, a stethescope, towels, drinking water and tolerant neighbours. Eugh, so not looking forward to doing it again. Keep these positive stories coming, they are helpful.
So, still havent died of food poisoning but belly feeling crampy so not a happy lady. And SOOO tired from all the not sleeping. Sucks.

knockedupagain · 06/08/2011 18:53

YouDoTheMath Welcome! Tought tittie to the HR lady! Just makes me laugh!
Edinburgh Crew It was lovely to meet you all!
Poppet Congrats on getting your way for the birth you want!
Folic I'll come to the slingmeet too. I'm rubbish with slings, but there is no harm in taking a look. I can't even keep a towel or sarong on for more than 5 minutes before it gathers at my ankles and trips me up! I fear for my lo. I had a clip on baby sling which my XH used, but i hated it.
Poppy'smum I'm very Envy of your confinement nurse. I was going to buy in some help if both embryos had taken. I think I'd have been struggling with being a single mum to 6, including newborn twins, even tho my others are older. I still get them up, and help with homework/ uni work etc. They are getting more independent and helpful - my dinner has been cooked and is about to be served to me! DD2 just came through with a green bean to see If I thought it was cooked enough. I was about to bite it to see, when she said "Don't do that. It's been on the floor. Can't you tell by bending it?" Had to confess I couldn't and needed another one to bite! Off to eat now. Nom Nom!

CollieandPup · 06/08/2011 19:30

Manchester (ish) people...anyone know of a sling meet this way? I'd be interested..?!

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 06/08/2011 20:07

Evening all,

NCT class was good and worth the money I think, although I came away from it still convinced that I'm in for a world of pain, but now know a little more about what that exact pain is going to involve!! Next class is all about the birth and then what to do with the LO once it's here, am looking forward to that more, I don't really have much experience with newborn's so hopefully will have some more idea by the end of the week.

Welcome Math, I agree with the others, don't worry about the HR woman, you're not the first and wont be the last to be pregnant already as you come back from maternity leave, hope you're having a good time this pregnancy and are looking forward to the next LO.

Off to bed, have a lot of information buzzing round my brain to think about!!!

juststarting · 06/08/2011 20:27

TwoJackRussells, I really benefitted from my NCT classes I think, just in terms of giving me a sane, open space to think about my fears, rather than just ruminating with half facts at home. And I made friends, which has been worth its weight in amniotic fluid. But I didnt feel I learnt much about having the actual baby after the birth at all. In fact, I realised that my son was in fact the first newborn and only the second baby I had ever held (and the other was was five minutes, 15 years ago!). We had NO clue!

PamSco · 07/08/2011 11:52

Hi All, Had an exhausting day yesterday - mostly in a good way. Did 4 shows at the festival, oooh those seats don't help pelvic pain at all!

Managed a lovely big curry for lunch and 5 pints (of blackurrant and soda) the torrential rain all day made the walk to find a taxi a pain but the hot hot hot creamy chocolate we had when we got in was heaven.

Pelvis and hips not too bad today, sore when I get up but not too bad after a walk around. Hope it doesn't get worse.

Through out the day I've worked out that The Boy loves live piano, I think he likes sleezy burlesque music, and curry makes him sleep.

2Jack glad NCT class was good. I think we are going to try and do a short weekend course rather than loads of classes. Just because of time.

Youdothemath a very warm welcome to you :)

stripeymummy · 07/08/2011 12:01

Woohoo! Managed to find you :) As I've been away a few days, I panicked when I was informed that this thread had vanished from my 'I'm on' - eek!

I have also been boiling up, it's been far too hot the last few weeks, I've never been so glad to see rain. As the DH had some toil we ran off home (well my folks in Scotland), to cat sit while they're on holiday, and try to cool off (it's amazing how much cooler southern Scotland is compared to Cumbria Confused). And have actually managed to get several nights decent sleep Shock

Anyone else having occasional nasty sharp pains in the lower parts of their abdomen? I am assuming that it is my womb stretching, but they were quite bad last night, lasting for over 15mins, and was a bit achy this morning. Modom seems to be bouncy and wriggly, so I take it she's fine. It's just not very pleasant :(

Also, I have noticed that Modom has a day or so of being very wriggly and kicking, then a day or so of doing nearly nothing. Then I start getting a wee bit neurotic, wondering how long to give it before I head off to the maternity ward for checks (she normally does a wee movement when I hit the peak of my panic). Do you think that she just spends a day knackering herself out, then a day snoozing? And how long do you wait to go to the maternity unit if the baby isn't moving?

God - I NEVER thought I could get this neurotic! I feel like I am on hyper-anxiety alert constantly :(

Anyway moan over.

We start our antenatal classes next month, have warned DH about seeing THE video. I think he's getting a bit anxious now too, but I'm sure he'll get through it :o Some of the other lovely ladies at my aquacise class are having theirs in the next week or so, so I shall be quizing them. I looked into the NCT classes, and have heard that they are very good, but we can't afford them :( My mum offered to pay, but they're getting some other bits and bobs for us, and I need to stop being treated like I'm still a skint student - I just start feeling guilty like I'm taking a liberty. Plus they're retired and not on the best pensions in the world. The maternity unit I'm at is vg though, so I'm hoping that the classes will be suitable.

I will endevour to keep more up to date with what's going on in this thread xx

Truffkin · 07/08/2011 12:41

Stripey we're only doing the NHS parent craft class and not NCT. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the biggest benefit is meeting other parents and as we're moving 100 miles away shortly after the baby comes, that won't be useful for us!! Also I'm the oldest of 9 children and have several nephews and neices so am not too freaked out about taking care of the basics. The parent craft covers all of the labour / birth choices and post natal care plus I'm going to the breastfeeding workshop, which I'm hoping is good as I'd like to learn as much as I can. As we're in London the NCT workshop is over £500 and there are many things I'd rather spend that cash on for the baby!

I also had a panic on Friday into Saturday with no movement and wondered how long I should wait before getting some advice. Luckily s/he put on a great show of belly-moving wriggling yesterday morning so all was well. I'm seeing my midwife tomorrow so will ask her opinion and let you know what she says.

In unrelated chat, have people seen the coverage of the riots in Tottenham last night? It's only a few miles from us and is really quite horrible. I feel so sad for the local community who had nothing to do with it and have their whole area just ruined.

juststarting · 07/08/2011 13:04

Good grief, I had no idea NCT could cost that much! Ours is WAY less. Like £120 or something. But also, dont they have some kind of system for helping people who cant afford it? But yes, the optimal benefit was meeting other parents. Though the rest was helpful in there not being any great suprises come labour. I didnt have to go "what the hell is THAT" when they brought out the hook to break my waters, or "what injection?" when they offered me the injection to help me deliver the placenta (refusing outright to have it NOT neccessarily the best choice ever there).
I too have been having days with scant movement and days with lots. It is freaky. Likewise, it reaches that point of going "ok, you better move now or I am going to have to go get you checked out" and she finally has a half hearted nudge at me, but its alarming to say the least.
So, today my toddler has learnt to stop himself mid tantrum and say, in his little baby voice "up-set". Which is proving far more effective for him. Oh dear oh dear.

voodoomunkee · 07/08/2011 14:48

Afternoon all. Just having a rest from painting woodwork in the hall. Exciting times! Having a little dance around to the Cure 'Friday I'm in Love', just one of those songs that always gets me cheerful!!

Had a much better sleep last night and whilst I am still shattered I do actually feel a little more energised. Funny how even a little energy can make all the difference! Waiting for the next bout of rain to hit, my poor neighbours have been to Northumberland camping this weekend.... I feel they may be slightly damp so I shall not be expecting the foam mat I lent them to be over dry! Bless.

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 07/08/2011 15:27

Truffikin,

ours cost £140 for two full days and two half days and part of the reason was to get to know people in the surrounding area and part cos the NHS ones dont suit us timing-wise. Not sure how much it'll be a social thing as we are all spread out geographically and age-wise I think I'm the oldest, but still it's nice to know a few more people who are going through the same as me. To be honest I think I have more in common with the gals I met last weekend at the Edinburgh meet-up so lets hope we can get together again now and then :D

Been having quite a busy weekend, got some new furniture for the baby's room and our living room so been humping stuff upstairs, tired now and the bump is complaining a bit, glad we did it now and not later as I'm not sure how much more heavy lifting I can do now! Just have the cot bed to come in a fortnight and I'll be able to get the nursery sorted out and ready to go, not sure what I'll entertain myself with after that....

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend, planning some pottering and knitting to finish up the day :)

PamSco · 07/08/2011 17:02

I've decided not to do the NCT and stick with the hypnobirthing. Then NHS one in Oct to meet people. I was going to do NCT, to meet people, but with the Edin/Fife/Perth meet from here and yoga then NHS I think that will be enough! There is also a new mums group at our surgery which is apparently very sociable.

Did the 2nd to last hypno class today - I'll miss them when they stop.
