I love the nests and vests too :)

Can't believe how many of us are having scares and trips to assessment units now. LK hope you've had an uneventful day and been sent home. Stripey I would keep going in every time you get painful tightenings rather than assume it's the same again - better go 10 times wrong than miss the time you should go. I went in @ 32 weeks with DD with period type pains without any real tightenings and they kept me for ages making sure my body wasn't thinking about labour. Everyone's so different it's very difficult to call the real thing.

I still have this horrendous cough and so have had so little sleep since the weekend I am like a zombie. Feels like there is no lung left for breathing:( and throat and chest and bump sore from the constant hacking. Have consultant tomorrow but pretty sure I'll just have to wait til it goes.

alicat10 · 08/09/2011 20:04

Oh and Cep that sounds like a positive meeting, another one onside

MooseyMoo · 08/09/2011 20:52

Cep that's good news

folic also love nests and vests for title of next thread

lk hope you have managed to get home today. Nothing like your own bed.

contractions started out as period pains and upgraded to backache which radiated toward bump. DD was back to back. Before this I had two days of contractions that were sporadic. I didn't have braxton hicks.

birth position when ready to push mw asked what position I wld like to be in. I asked what she wld rec and said 'well standing or on all fours wld be best but you can't do that because of all the monitors (haven't forgiven her for this comment!).

She moved the bed into an upright position and it was so comfy. Have to say at this point I was so tired I don't think I cld have stayed on all fours for 40mins.

One positive for constipation, I used to practice my breathing for the pushing stage each time. Good training!! Blush

bumpandisaacsmum · 08/09/2011 21:01

Evening all

lk hope all has settled for you and that you have managed to make it home; rest up and take it easy.

cali glad you are feeling better and that your GP was positive, continue to do what is best for you.

stripey hope you are feeling better today, glad you got checked and all was well. Always worth being checked than staying home and worrying.

folic glad your work sent you home, rest up and hope you feel better soon.

ali good luck with your consultant appt and hope the cough improves.

A positive one from me tonight :)
Had my 31wk check with GP this week and all is well, baby already head down and has really strong heartbeat. Spoke to GP about how exhausted I was and she signed me off stating that I really need to rest so for the past couple of days I have done just that.

It has been lovely as I have had some energy when DS returns from school so been spending some quality time together.
Not sure if it is the meds or rest (probably a bit of both) but I am feeling much more positive and relaxed at the mo and planning on bits to sort for baby - I feel I am managing to think reasonably clearly :o

Hope everyone else is well xx

SnoozleDoozle · 08/09/2011 21:30

MrsA when I was pushing, I wasn't on my back, but I wasn't on all fours either, it was sort of crouching, then when I was too exhausted to do that any more, I was propped up as upright as I could get. I'm just so confused, I don't know what to do for best. I was so sure last time that I could do without epidural, that it was all about positive thinking and having the right attitude, and it was such a shock to realise that the most positive attitude in the world was no guarantee of anything. I think that was what left me feeling so disappointed in myself, it wasn't the medical intervention as such, it was the fact that I had been so naive.

SnoozleDoozle · 08/09/2011 21:32

Sorry, my last couple of posts have been a bit self absorbed. Wanted to add that I hope that too little ones are doing well, and that lk I hope your wee one stays put for a bit longer! And hope everyone else is doing ok.

goldmaple · 08/09/2011 21:34

Love the nests and vests line! Good thinking!!

lk hope everything has calmed down for you! I can't believe your hospital is 5 hrs away (i hope i mis read that)!

stripey I'm a first timer too and keep freaking out when BH come more frequently (they don't hurt but take my breath away). moosey Its good to hear about what real contractions are like and that they start at the top and work their way down.

ali hope you feel better soon. I don't have a cold and its getting hard enough. Can imagine how your abdominal muscles hurt:( Have you tried lemon and honey for the cough?

bump glad you are feeling better! Def take rest when you need it!

Yesterday Bubba wedged her feet or arms or head somewhere and it was actually painful. I finally had to lie down flat to get her to move (but had to stick it out for 2 hrs as I was at work and couldn't get a break). Any one have tips for moving/readjusting a baby? I'm sure she was happy as a clam but it wasn't pleasant.

goldmaple · 08/09/2011 21:35

snoozle what happened with your first birth if you don't mind me asking? I would like a natural birth and was wondering what happened with yours?

MooseyMoo · 08/09/2011 21:45

gold On all fours helps me if baby is in weird position. Used to throw pen on floor under desk at work just to get a bit of relief Hmm

Spinning babies is a really good site for when we are trying to get babies into optimal position, or guessing what part of baby you are prodding.

goldmaple · 08/09/2011 22:17

moosey lol.. at the throwing a pen on the floor. I really wished I had thought about that! I bet that would move bubba a bit... it would take me about 15 mins to retrieve said pen. I will take a look at that site now:)

SnoozleDoozle · 08/09/2011 22:37

goldmaple I was induced with DD, around 39 weeks, because I was ill myself throughout the pregnancy (gallstones, jaundice etc). Was given pessary gel around 6.30 on a Monday evening, and contractions started within about an hour, but it just all went on for so long, and she wasn't born until 1.30am on the Wednesday, although my contractions were very strong and very regular. I went on the drip, had my waters broken (there was meconium in my waters by the time they got round to doing that), got to fully dilated, and pushed, but I have been told that the stress of the long labour on DD caused her head to swell thereby making her too big to pass through my pelvis. I think the emcs was probably to prevent damage to her, rather than to me, if you see what I mean. And also, by the time I got to pushing, I was just so exhausted - maybe if I had got to the pushing stage 12 hours earlier I could have done it, but I suppose I'll never know...

lktoday5 · 09/09/2011 06:16

Hello all, well I'm still in hospital, currently bouncing on a ball between tightenings 5 mins or so apart. Having said that this has been going on for a week and no baby yet! She seems fine and happy. I REALLY want to go home. Had to have two registrar consults y'day and I know they're just being precautionary in case 'I get discharged and go into labour in the car park'. Tis more the m4 that bothers me! I'm still hopeful of being let out today. Well see! Scared my dh to death y'day when said we should go on tour of nicu!

Thanks to all those that have sent love and wishes. And for those that asked, it is a little l in 'lk' and my hospital isn't normally 4 hours away, we came for a family wedding and I haven't left yet!

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 09/09/2011 06:52

Morning all, lk, hope you get discharged soon, to be honest I would be tempted to discharge myself but can be difficult like that and I do so love being at home, but fingers crossed you get the consultants to let you go soon.

Gold, baby H has been head down for a couple of weeks and every so often I am sure they stuff their hands down into my pelvis, it's so uncomfortable, but I tend to just try to either put up with it or sort of lift my bump up a bit to see if that helps, am sure it doesnt but that and grumbling about it def helps!

I really really want to take today off sick, but there is nothing really wrong with me, I can't really write on a sick form that I am a bit tired can I? Only four more weeks to go, yay!!!!

PamSco · 09/09/2011 08:18

Howdy all. lk what a boring time you must be having - I hope you get out soon.

LOVE Feathering our nests and buying baby vests gotta use that one next.

7 weeks and I'm off - seems to long to start the count down. Work is getting very demanding as people realise I won't be around.

Getting the cot tonight. Woohoo.

Is anyone else experiencing a growth spurt in the bump? Tummy muscles are achey achey and he is kicking like crazy. He feels very territorial.

OP posts:
alicat10 · 09/09/2011 10:11

lk sorry to hear you're still in but can understand their being cautious? Where have you ended up then? M4 but which end?

Well my anxiety levels are up as junior has gone pretty quiet y'day and today - so glad I have a scan & consultant appt at lunchtime, hopefully I'll be reassured there's nothing to worry about. Also I am definitely not getting bigger, feel like I've been stuck at this size for about 8 weeks so that now I'm getting a lot of comments about being small - reminiscent of my 1st pg which ended with a tiny baby and a NICU stay. Have to go on my own today as DH will have to look after LOs and get them fed etc.

Whoever was talking about struggling to bond after an EMCS I was exactly the same but hopefully it will reassure you that number 2 ended up being an CS again but with no labour whatsoever so I thought much worse in terms of body & hormones being ready but it was absolutely fine - bonded easily and milk flooded in no problem. I suspect it was the shock & trauma of 1st time that made it hard for me to bond & feed.

Hope everyone has a good day:)

SnoozleDoozle · 09/09/2011 16:14

Alicat hope your appt went well and you are reassured.

Your post reminded me that I should have said in my earlier post that although I had emcs, I had no difficulty bonding afterwards, so that side of things was a very good outcome for us.

Pam is your kitchen finished yet?

alicat10 · 09/09/2011 16:22

Thanks Snoozle - consultant sent me for CTG so ended up there for hours but everyone reassured now (junior stayed firmly motionless throughout quite a lengthy scan so all were worried) and great to see Consultant at last - switched as hadn't got to see original one and was really pleased that he remembered me and we had a good discussion where he really listened and explained why I didn't need to worry about stuff rather than the bland brush offs I'd had from registrars. He wants me to wait til 39 weeks for CS though and I was hoping for 38.5 but we'll discuss next time.

CazandBelle · 09/09/2011 16:26

Glad everything is ok ali - did they have any concerns about baby's size?

GTT this morning wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Felt a bit light headed and woozy by 9.30 and had to really stop myself heaving after drinking down something so sweet on an empty stomach but on the whole I was fine. Been told if there is nothing wrong with me I won't hear anything, if there is a diabetic nurse will be in touch pretty quickly. I assume that will mean Monday if they decide I have it, I hope not though, I'm so crap at being strict with my diet....

lktoday5 · 09/09/2011 17:20

Ali I'm in ruh bath. Can't say enough good things about the team here. I originally booked in here and then we moved. After 8 days here I'm actually sad that I won't get to deliver here. (well, I guess whilst I haven't escaped there's chance yet!)

Today's good news is that missy is cooking well, scan shows ahead of dates and with lovely hair on head. Dh was VERY happy bless him. Still keeping it all crossed to get out ...

alicat10 · 09/09/2011 17:45

Caz all measurements tracking on the same centiles - big head, short legs, average tummy so no concerns there - he's a fair bit smaller than Xander though - estimate 4lb 2oz at 31+5.

lk glad you're getting good care and that things are settling down - I k ow a few people who've given birth there and had good experiences.

goldmaple · 09/09/2011 17:57

lk I didn't realize you were still in the hospital!! Glad to hear baby (and you) are doing well! Hope everything settles down soon and you get to go home - glad the staff have been good to you

snoozle glad to hear you didn't have any problems bonding and sounds like you made the best of a 2-day labour!! Yikes! I am making a birth plan but I feel like it looks more like a tree with different pathes for all the 'If this happens...' I really like to be in control so I'm working on just going with the flow.

twojack I think bubba had her head (hoping it was a head) shoved down in my pelvis this am, was NOT comfy. lol... I am counting down the days (40-62)

cep · 09/09/2011 18:35

lk glad you and baby are doing well, hope you're able to go home soon.

Just a quicky again as i'm shattered. Hope everyone is ok.

pandia · 09/09/2011 20:03

Oh dear I just watched desperate midwives, filmed at Birmingham birth centre, did anyone else? Big mistake ESP as dh away and I'm home alone. Turned into crying wreck not just at the beautiful babies being born and their first moments with their parents. But also the incredible fear of birth as a first timer. Why do the women scream so loudly... Cant quite believe that in only a few weeks I will have to face that and wonder how I'll cope. Aargh panic!!!

stripeymummy · 09/09/2011 20:14

Ik glad to hear that things are going well, and fingers crossed you'll get out of hospital soon.

PamSco yup, definitely going through a growth-spurt too, really achy abdomen and getting occasional sharp stitches running up and down the sides, and Modom is definitely doing a lot more wriggling and bumping. I'm also noticing the weight of the bump a lot more, can really feel gravity pulling it down. The maternity belt helps a bit, but when it's not on it feels like the bump's about to drop off Shock. And it's really uncomfortable turning over in bed, and a lot of effort!

Hope everyone has a good weekend :) xx

Caliphora · 09/09/2011 21:03

Watching Outnumbered - I can't wait until I have a family like this...

Oh, and new QI at 10! Yay!
