Hey guys - sorry about the Primula conversation - I may have instigated it a little bit...

Just wanted to share a little bit - I had to spend the night at the labour ward due to really bad back/hip pain (and a very annoyed consultant who told me I was wasting their time - even though I was made to go there by the out of hours doctor!). Sprout is fine, but here's the magic:

As I was lying there unable to sleep due to the pain, I heard 3 different women come in and consequently give birth - it was pretty amazing! Also really scary - one of them was so loud I thought she was having her leg amputated, and I'm not sure I want to do this whole birth thing now! ;)
It's amazing hearing the little new one start crying, and the cooing of midwives! DP got a little bit weepy when he heard the first one (he was asleep during the two others...)

Got home at 10 am, and napped before the extra support community midwife came for a visit - she looked surprised that I had a partner, but was really supportive and lovely, booked me in for all the ante-natal classes available and then some! Wouldn't have known some of them existed if it hadn't been for her, so really pleased it was a good outcome. Also arranged a consultants visit in week 36 when I told her about the "Happy thinking" person - she was not impressed!

Am loving the Primula schism Grin my last word on the matter would be to concur with PamSco that all other flavours but chive are blek, but would like to form a new splinter group which is currently preferring philli style soft cheese on... well um everything.
Am absolutely shattered right now. Me and DH had our first ever evening meal out as just a couple last night since DS was born. We had daytime meals, and evening meals out on our own with friends, but never evening and together. It sucks to have no local family for babysitting, combined with a small child who wouldn't sleep through for the first 16 months and it was one of the big demands of bfing, combined with v little drinking for ever, that they don't really tell you about. That said I'm planning on doing it all again just the same with this DC because it was so worth it.
Another reason I'm so tired is because today is DS's 2nd birthday! We went to the zoo and had such fun, he's been in lovely form all day, no tantrums despite no nap since Tuesday (argh is this the end of naps?) and loved all the fuss, balloons and party blowers . And he even ate cake this year...

Poppet45 · 19/08/2011 18:52

Ooooh forgot to add Snoozledoozle I was v similar with DS. Measured 2 weeks ahead despite not putting on much weight (2 ish stone in all so pretty normal) and being small (size 10). I had one failed sugar in pee test but no other indications of diabetes and I passed the GTT and they never scanned me. But in hindsight I think I had issues as I had ridiculous sugar cravings in my final weeks of pregnancy. I drank litres of fruit juice and baked masses of flapjack and it was really insatiable, but I never put on much weight, DS stole it all. This time I'm aware I'm less hungry, but have already limited my fruit juice craving to the standard 250ml glass.... not my previous litre a day Shock, in case it does kick in again at the end. I would like DD to be under 9lbs even if she is the second child so traditionally bigger!

smilingcl · 19/08/2011 18:56

Squishy cheese makes me want to throw up anyway so I've skimmed the last few posts!

Feeling a bit moany today with punani ache and eating too much so my stomach feels TIGHT. Can't imagine how it's going to be in a few weeks time..

Anyway, going to the pictures tonight with the ladies to see super 8 so looking forward to that and the popcorn :)

I was looking at hypnobirthing and decided it was too expensive so I bought that Ina May book about giving birth and I'm quite enjoying it, it's a bit spiritual in places for my liking but they describe loads of ways to relax and make the most of the whole experience. I'm almost looking forward to it now. Just hope that at the Homerton hospital birthing suite they're on board with her methods. I think the UK approach to birth sounds a million times better than the US approach where everyone seems to get treated in the same medical way.

8 or 9 weeks left of work! Got my HR interview on Monday so I need to decide on a last date, think I'm going to go for nearly 3 weeks before due date :) Haven't got a mat b yet but got a 30wk midwife appt next week so maybe I'll get it then..

will stop typing now...

WooHoo weekend is here (sorry if you work Sat and/or Sun) WooHoo!

Just dug up my first harvest from my overgrown blight infested veggie patch.

Carrots, beetroots, onion, garlic, Highland Burgandy spuds, parsnip, broad beans and some sprigs of rosemary and thyme.... Ready Steady Cook.

I'm being very unimaginative - roast honey glaved veggies with lemon & rosemary chicken with broad beans in butter on the side.

I'm very over excited because I've wanted to grow my own dinner for over 20 years and this is my first year with a garden.

Fingers crossed it doesn't taste crap.

Thanks for your explanations everyone - I was totally clueless about gestational diabetes, it just wasn't really on my radar because I didn't think I was in a high risk group. Ah well, nothing for it but to go for the test and take it from there, hopefully its all a fuss about nothing.

I was thinking about my diet, and I did start thinking 'hmm, i have been very thirsty recently, and they say that's a sign' but that's probably my mind running away with me'. But strangely enough, in my early pregnancy, I was hungry all the time, and I did succumb to quite a lot of bars of chocolate etc, much more so than I would ever normally eat. Then in the second trimester, the sugar cravings just left me and now even if I have a tea or coffee, I rarely have a biscuit or anything like that, and I don't know when I last ate a bar of chocolate. Also don't often drink fruit juice or fizzy drinks or stuff like that, and am ashamed to say I don't really eat much fruit either (although do eat plenty of vegetables!) so my fear is that if I have to change my diet, it might be something quite drastic! Lets hope not.....

SnoozleDoozle · 19/08/2011 19:10

Pam I grew beetroot last year, and the biggest one was about 2cm across, but out of sheer stubbornness, I peeled and roasted them anyway, and they were the finest beetroot I ever tasted! DH thought it was hilarious.....

PamSco · 19/08/2011 19:57

Snoozle I was surprised at how small the beets were here - fingers ccrossed they taste nice.

On diabetes, I talked my self into a worry a year ago - was always tired, thirsty, needing to pee all the time. So when I had my smear I asked to be tested and it was fine. Been tested a few times just to be reassured - I'm high risk due to weight. I've stopped worrying but I do try to keep the sugars down in my diet. Ok I know a few people here witnessed me polish off a cake Wink

Thanks to alicat Snoozle and Knocked for sharing about scans. Was beginning to feel left out!

Pam Oh, sounds like a lovely dinner. Hope it tastes good too. We've grown peas, broad beans, chillis, lettuce, carrots and a shed load of courgettes. Not to self: grow 2 plants instead of 4 next year!

Hope everybody has a lovely, relaxed weekend

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 20/08/2011 06:10

cookie9 · 20/08/2011 06:34

Wow chip congratulations hope you are all doing well.

bumpandisaacsmum · 20/08/2011 06:44

Congrats chip hope you are recovering well. Stay strong Sylvie-Rose, have a smooth time in SCBU. Hope you are both home safely soon x x

SnoozleDoozle · 20/08/2011 06:54

Chip I hope you're both doing ok, that must have been a shock.

I can't believe one of us has a baby already - I was reading people's posts the other day about packing a bag for the hospital and I thought to myself 'I'll do that around the start of October', maybe I'd be wise to give it a bit more consideration....

PamSco · 20/08/2011 07:06

Chip I hope you, Sylvie-Rose and DH are doing well. Stay strong while you wait to get that beautiful bundle home. Thinking of you.

pookypup · 20/08/2011 07:09

Congratulations Chip, pleased to hear she is doing well. Will be thinking of you all and hoping she makes good progress. Beautiful name :) I don't get time to post here often but like to pop in occasionally and see how everyone is doing. Was wondering when our first thread baby would arrive!

Snoozle also makes me this I should get a move on with organising things. I've not bought a single thing for this baby yet, let alone consider packing bag. Must choose pram I guess this weekend.....

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 20/08/2011 07:53

Wow chip congrats and hope it's not been too scary a time for you and your new DD. Sending lots of hugs your way. I know I can be a bit 'mother earthy' but in premature babies, this is where the docs come into their own - just life savers! All due respect to them.

mashpot · 20/08/2011 08:08

Congratulations Chip, I'm pleased you and Slyvie-Rose are doing well. Can't wait to hear more when you have the time.

What a huge surprise to see one of us already has her baby! Pooky I haven't bought a thing either. Couldn't bear to while the nursery is full of boxes and the new bathroom but perhaps I should buying a few sleepsuits or something!

smilingcl · 20/08/2011 08:54

Wow Chip, I hope you're both well and keep well. Congratulations!! I hope you've got everything you need!

Folicacid · 20/08/2011 09:15

Bloody hell Chip. A girl!....and born! Big congratulations to you and sending lots of positive thoughts. I hope you and Sylvie-Rose recover well over the next few weeks.

I'm wetting the baby's head with a glass of apple juice. Here's to you guys. Smile

knockedupagain · 20/08/2011 10:24

Congratulations Chip and Sylvie-Rose! Hope you both continue to do well, and that you're bringing your daughter home soon. Well... no reason why a girl can't be in a five-a-side team! Do tell us the story when you're fit enough to.

lktoday5 · 20/08/2011 10:28

chip huge congratulations, hope you're all doing ok and are well ....now theres something to shock the rest of us (ok me) into action!
