I've never had primula but think I'll try - been on the laughing cow (just had a sneaky one on toast) especially on bread dunked into tomato soup

alicat10 · 18/08/2011 17:52

Staceroo in my first pg I'm pretty sure birth plans weren't mentioned to me by MW or NHS ante-natal classes. I heard about them at the active birth class and only discussed with MW after I had written it. I'll rummage around and see if I can find it and post it as it does raise choices to think about like natural delivery of placenta, not cutting cord til not pulsing etc

voodoomunkee · 18/08/2011 17:53

Snoozle am weirdy blood type too! I've got anti d injection a week tomorrow, only had them in the past upon delivery so can't remember what it felt like, I hate injections so am guessing not nice!!

voodoomunkee · 18/08/2011 18:06

What's with the ikea family price? I've got a card but not got anything that says the cot is cheaper? Is it store by store?

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 18/08/2011 18:11

Afternoon all,

had my 28 week mw appointment today, measuring three weeks over so off to have a growth scan tomorrow to see whether the bub is going to be a massive one or not!!

Have only had primula when walking in the hills, have to admit it's not my favourite, bovril on toast although weird to my DH is my absolute comfort food :)

I'll join the discharge club, been like that for a couple of months, but as DH is terrible about doing the laundry he has most likely not noticed or hasnt mentioned it:)

Have had a difficult week at work with one of my colleagues, so glad that it's the end of the week tomorrow - roll on the start of maternity leave!!!

On a positive note, my DH was all for riding in and defending the honour of his wife and unborn child, knows I wouldn't let him, but it was nice to have someone supporting me :) And I get another look at the wee one tomorrow too Grin

SnoozleDoozle · 18/08/2011 18:19

Eventful morning for me! Turns out my appt was not for anti D as I had thought, it was in fact the 28 week appt with consultant. I was scanned, got a good look at his/her wee face and everything, which was lovely, then Dr announced I am actually measuring 31 weeks, not 28. Now, before the scan, I had just been telling her that I am certain that their dates are wrong, I think the due date is around ten days earlier than the previous scans indicated, so this was good news to me. But, then she said that a huge baby could indicate gestational diabetes, and she needed to send me for tests. Is that the GTT thing that some of you have been talking about?

Anyway, the funny thing is that I haven't put on all that much weight myself, and I wasn't overweight to begin with. Not particularly thin, but within 'normal' range, and fairly fit, so this has knocked me for six, as I wasn't expecting it.

Caliphora · 18/08/2011 18:43

Voodoo Go to the My Family section of the website Here - it may differ from store to store, but it's the same in Coventry and Manchester...

H007 · 18/08/2011 19:39

Hey all, slightly grossed out between the relationship of descriptive primula with discharge and then the discussion about it being the best thing since slice bread hahaha

Had phone call from consultants receptionist today an after their meeting they've decided they still haven't got the foggest what's wrong with me, even though they are clear that something is not right... So now the plan of action is to wait and watch have another appointment in a couple of weeks and if I get worried before then they will book me in asap... Soooooo back in limbo

MooseyMoo · 18/08/2011 19:53

H007 So sorry to hear the results weren't conclusive. Hate being in limbo :( I'm also grossed out by comparison of discharge and primula. Had weird image of people licking their knickers in a primula shortage Hmm. I've never heard of it but LOVE dairylea. My current addiction is frosties about 3 times a day.

Very jealous of people having scans. Can I ask the reasons why you are having them? My next mw appointment is 34 weeks, only 6 weeks away but also feels like ages.

alicat10 · 18/08/2011 20:11

Moosey I have 4 weekly scans as both my little ones were very little ones - seems my placenta gives up a couple of weeks earlier than normal

alicat10 · 18/08/2011 20:12

H007 sorry to hear you've been left hanging - hopefully they'll figure it out soon

SnoozleDoozle · 18/08/2011 21:10

It seems to be the norm here to scan at every appointment - I was scanned the whole way through my first pregnancy and the same this time. I have been scanned three times by GP, twice by midwives, twice by the consultant and once by the radiographer (that was the 20 wk scan). Its only at the 12 and 20 wk scan that they printed out a picture though.

SnoozleDoozle · 18/08/2011 21:12

Oh, and we don't have midwife appts as such, its always with the consultant, I don't think there is such a thing as midwife led care in my area.

knockedupagain · 18/08/2011 21:52

H007 do try not to worry. They are pretty good at spotting cancer, so it's likely to be something else. I hope you get more news in a couple of weeks.

Moosey I'm being scanned every two weeks as there is some concern over Connor's blood type. I am kell (similar to Rhesus factor) negative, but have anti kell antibodies as I was given kell positive blood when I had a transfusion after a PPH with DD1. This could mean that if Connor is kell positive, I will attack and destroy his red blood cells and he will be severely anaemic and have poor growth. The scans check his growth, and monitor blood flow in his brain to see if it looks reduced. Everything looks fine.

There is a new test that I have had whereby they analyse (lots of!) my blood, looking for any stray kell positive cells, as some of Connor's will have crossed the placenta. The test predicted that he is kell negative, as no positive cells were found, but they caveat their prediction stating that it's possible that no foetal cells were present in the sample, so it could be wrong, and therefore the result should not be used to alter clinical decisions. Hence they will continue to scan me, even though no one thinks there is a problem. The test has been accurate in 74/75 cases so far, and in any case my donors should both have been screened to exclude their being kell positive, as it was known that I had the antibodies before I started IVF.

I'm not at all concerned, and enjoying the extra scans. A couple of months ago, I prepaid a 4D private scan to happen next Tuesday, and have been wishing I'd kept my money since all the fortnightly scans started. Ah well.

bumpandisaacsmum · 18/08/2011 22:37

H007 sorry you haven't been given any conclusive results, try to remain positive. I hope they manage to give you an answer soon.

Another with lots of discharge here - though I too find it a little disconcerting that it got compared to Primula which lead to a discussion of how good primula/other soft cheeses are. Am glad that I've never liked any form of soft cheese.

Trimming lady areas is getting more difficult (as is shaving legs) but there is no way I would even consider DP assisting - he only has to shave himself weekly & even then he has very little facial growth!!!!

Glad to hear that there has been more good appts.

stace if you have questions that you want to ask write a list and take it with you; if you don't want to ask them all in one appointment then I would look at the list and mark the ones you want to get answered first, second etc and ask a few at each appt - most MW would rather spend longer ensuring that you have all of the answers that you want/need than let you leave feeling unsure of what is happening.

Went to aqua today but the hydro pool was too hot to allow us to do any exercise; as they hadn't realised until we were arriving for 1st class we were allowed to get in and relax & chat (other classes were phoned to say not to come) It was lovely having a good chat and feeling so weightless without doing the normal exercises - we were advised to get out after 45mins though as they didn't want us overheating!!!!

Hope everyone & bumps are keeping well x x

cookie9 · 19/08/2011 08:12

H007 so sorry to hear you are in limbo.

Have gtt today and am hungry as is baby who keeps kicking as if to say where's my breakfast.

Dh is going to have to shave my legs not sure about biniki line but he is certainly not waxing me! My eyes water at the very thought.

Glad to hear the 28 week appointments going well. Mine is after first part of gtt so hope I don't faint.

PamSco · 19/08/2011 08:53

Snoozle yes that is the GTT test. It just measures how quickly your system removes sugars from your blood. The theory on large babies is that your system isn't being efficient in this respect. If you have a high blood sugar all the time then the baby will use the sugars and grow big.

Don't be worried you have diabetes as many babies grow faster at different times you never know, over the next 3 or 4 weeks your wee one may slow down a bit and be perfectly sized.

One way to minimise high blood sugars is cut out the easy sugars - juice, pop, sweets, lots of fruit. I was told to cut out the 3 pints of fruit smoothies I was making or substitute some of the fruit with veggies whose sugar is less easy to get to. Go low GI.

mashpot · 19/08/2011 13:13

Hello ladies,

Lots going on with medical tests this week. I hope everyone has happy outcomes at the end of it. I've just been phoned by the docs to let me know that my blood tests from last week show that I am anemic. I'm not surprised as the dizzy head has been getting worse but at least it should be easy to rectify.

Can I also put myself firmly in the camp of disgusted at the way the primula conversation turned!

Now talking of the lady garden, mine is growing at double quick speed, I'm sure of it. I know we're supposed to get glossier hair on head but I didn't realise this would translate to elsewhere on the body. I was going to have a wax before holiday next week but I can't face it after reading up on how much more a wax hurts while pregnant so will make to with veet or something else.

Happy Friday's.

PamSco · 19/08/2011 13:23

Ok ok my OH is sorry for the Primula remark and I am very sorry for relaying it and also sorry that I then supported the "nom nom nom Primula is lovely" discussion.

It just shows how addicted I am that I wasn't grossed out in the least Grin

Anywho - I hope everyone is having a good day.

Mash I now have hairier legs than my OH if I don't keep them weeded :( I'm hoping that is just temporary.

OP posts:
NotJustKangaskhan · 19/08/2011 13:37

Hair It's temporary. My leg hair is always a lot more plentiful and darker in pregnancy and then goes back to it's sparse and semi-transparent within a few months after the birth. Similar to head hair - apparently the body keeps hold of it more during pregnancy so we'll all have a massive shed in time for next spring (which I need, as I have waist length hair the whole masses of hair is more of a pain than a 'glow' here!).

I'm currently feeling very nesty - I have plans for the whole house (and practically none of them actually have anything to do with the bump). I want to get it all done now because I know I'll be of no help later in pregnancy.

stripeymummy · 19/08/2011 14:16

Re the pants/primula discussion - nice Hmm, glad I'm not a fan - of primula not pants btw.

Shattered today. Another bad night's sleep :( Not been helped by spending the last couple of days running around like a blue-arsed fly as my friend, who was visiting, didn't seem to quite realise that 7 month pregnant ladies with dodgy hips, need to get plenty of rest and really really can't stay up past 11pm (even with repetitive telling) Angry. But I was firm in the end, and she just had to deal with it.

Got a maternity belt from the physio yesterday - what a difference. Wish I'd gotten one earlier. Here is hoping it keeps me off crutches.

H007 I'm sorry to hear that things haven't been conclusive. Fingers crossed it gets cleared up asap

Folicacid · 19/08/2011 15:20

Is it wrong that I found all the resulting primula discussion absolutely hilarious?! Grin

Who'dve thought our first faux schism would be about 'processed cheese' and not breastfeeding hey. Wink

007 Sorry that you've not had a resolution, but take heart in the fact that they haven't actually found anything. I know that's easy to say. You have a ncie weekend planned?

mashpot Hot wax rather than strip wax is the way to go. A little bit pricer but well worth it as lot less painful. I couldn't see what I was doing with veet the other week, I'm sure I came on and told you guys the result. Not great so I'd say treat yourself to a wax! ( I wasn't able to get one in time for hols)

stripey some people just don't get it. We've got visitors next week but luckily one is a mum of two so I'm hoping she knows the score.

TTIF folks!

cookie9 · 19/08/2011 16:50

Gtt wasn't as bad as thought although was starving by the end. Heartbeat fine but measuring slightly big so will check measurements next time and if still big then refer me for a scan.

Off for another cup of tea and a muffin.

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 19/08/2011 17:19

Afternoon all,

How soon will you find out the results of your test cookie? am measuring three weeks over and following a scan this morning am booked in for a glucose test on monday morning, love my food so not really looking forward to fasting all morning :(

Mind, I phoned my Mum and I was over eight pounds and three weeks early, so maybe big babies are just normal for my family? Here's hoping....

I have not problem with the primula discussions, funny but then my mind is in the gutter generally Wink

Hope everyone has a good weekend, madly busy on sat so definitely going to flop around on Sunday in my jammies :)

cookie9 · 19/08/2011 17:31

Hi twojackrussellsandabean was told if the gtt shows up anything I will hear by Monday so very quick to let you know.
I am only 5 4 and normally size 8 but dh is a well built 6 5 so baby could be taking after him. His mum is my build and had to have c section so will have to wait and see.
