Hi buddy, do you have a 7yo brother? Sorry being unnecessarily nosey! I have a 4yo brother and a 14mo sister, when I'm out with my mum people always assume all 3 children are mine (also have 9mo dd)

I've heard lots of people say kiddicare warehouse is the place to go, if only we lived closer.

GiraffeAHolic · 08/08/2011 10:24

Has anyone seen any nice cheap reasonable dresses suitable for an evening wedding reception anywhere??

knittiekitty · 08/08/2011 11:05

Hya to newbies - busy weekend and my last two days of med cert before I have to go back to work on Wednesday. Nausea seems to be subsiding at last so can't really string leave out any longer - I'm enjoying pottering about the house on my own!
Giraffe - I bought a floral tea dress from Mothercare in their sale that will have to do for a wedding we're going to in 2 weeks time. It's shorter than I'd usually wear but with tights and my favourite blazer type jacket it will have to do. Asda have maxi dresses (if you're tall enough!) and have a look at the dress in Gap, it's gorgeous but came out after I'd got mine and I couldn't justify more maternity dresses! Judging by the invite we received (pink butterflies, ribbon and diamante jewels) we're going to a posh do although they're dh's pals who live miles away. I've never met the bride before and I can't judge how formal it will be. So I'm hoping my dress will do. The dry-cleaners worked a miracle on dd's party dress

(chocolate ice cream incident of horror) so I just have to sort the hotel out for us and we're nearly organised. Makes a change!
Back to cleaning and tidying away the weekend chaos...

Nanny01 · 08/08/2011 11:31

Good day this morning dd1 loved her ipod touch, well who wouldn't. Then After helping to make a cupcake turtle cake found myself some maternity clothes plus sized at www.bonprixsecure.com. Hopeing they fit ordered a size 24 which I am normally am. You are meant to order your regular size aren't you?

miamama09 · 08/08/2011 12:02

giraffe I was surprised on Sat when out shopping looking for a dress for my brother's wedding in couple of weeks. Didn't even know New Look did maternity wear - but they have a good range of dresses in. I got a lovely bright purple silky one, knee length, plenty of room for bump to grow so can make use of it again for any other festivities! It looks way more expensive than it actually is, I never buy from New Look normally so was very surprised.

otherwise, Dotty P's have a good sale on Maxi dresses (not maternity though, so if you can squeeze in they have 2 for 1 on dresses at mo!).

knittiekitty · 08/08/2011 12:05

Nanny I thought you were supposed to order your usual size until my M&S trousers arrived so I'll be going up a size from now on. It depends on the style I suppose - I'll be checking out bonprix so thanks for the tip!

Is anyone else getting clumsy? I think my 'relaxin' hormones are kicking in as my knee hurts and I keep dropping things. Yesterday I smashed a bottle of Chinese cooking wine, it covered the kitchen floor in tiny shards and I can still smell it. I've just put a load in the washing machine and now have a purple bruise under my thumbnail as I mis-judged the door so badly -it hurts out of all proportion. I also accidently whalloped poor dd round the face a while ago trying to reach out for a cuddle. At this rate I'll be sat in a padded cell for everyone's safety.

GiraffeAHolic · 08/08/2011 12:07

I did get a load of maternity basics in new look last week, and they had a sale on which was even better, fairly sure that one didn't have dresses though typically.

Just tried my favourite failsafe monsoon 'going out' dress but the zip won't do up Sad

I'm 5'8 but never tried maxi dresses, may have to bite the bullet and try.

Have found a Crave dress on ShopStyle that I love for half price but I'm not sure I could carry it off!

knittiekitty · 08/08/2011 12:15

Same problem with failsafe going out dress here too Giraffe! My only other 'best' dress that might stretch, is a plain black Boden jersey type which doesn't seem right for an August wedding. Go for it with the Crave dress, you can cite difficulty finding suitable materniry wear if your nerves fail!

ParsleyLion1 · 08/08/2011 12:31

Nanny01 They say you are generally supposed to buy your normal size but I have to say I'm a bit flummoxed. H&M had a chart depending on how may months pg you are everything else says order the normal size but H&M jeans I could even get over my legs, the same size in Next keep falling down!

Congratulations on your healthy boy Sleepy! I think how you're feeling is perfectly understandable, I also have a son already and I think I'll feel sad for the daughter I won't have if DC2 if a boy, I won't feel at all sad about having a another boy though, it's an odd mix of emotions isn't it? Smile Glad your scan went well, I'm jealous - I still have 5 weeks to wait until mine!

Nanny01 · 08/08/2011 14:36

Sleepy- congrats on having a boy, I feel like you and know that when baby arrives what ever sex it is we will love them. Interestingly we have 2 of each at the mo so won't make any difference what it is though secretly would like a boy again as our 4 th was a ds and would like him to have a brother nearer in age. Though thinking about it ds 2 is 5 so still a large gap though it will be smaller than the 8 yr gap between him and ds1. Can't do any thing about that now the die is cast so will be happy to have what ever it is jsut want a healthy child and trying to keep my mind of the autism that worried me till out little one talks.

Oeisha · 08/08/2011 19:04

biddy Welcome! :o
Sleepy A baby boiy eh! Congrats! :)

For anyone that hasn't tried it yet, try swimming, Yolkis went totally bat-sh*t mental and bounced about in me so much I had to stop...felt sick...

ChocaMum · 08/08/2011 19:43

biddy congratulations and welcome to the january babies!

sleepy congratulations, he is healthy so that's great! I can completely understand though and I think it's natural how you feel. But you are obviously right that when he's born it won't make the slightest nit of difference. And it will be a lot cheaper! I already have one DD and I'm trying prepare myself for both in thinking that it will be mice for DD if we have another girl as there will be just under 2 years between them, and it will be nice to have a boy as we are unlikely to have any more children. Anyway we will see...

knittie I've broken so many things over the last month. I'm also getting really forgetful and I remember this happened last time too.

oeisha i take DD swimming every week and have definitely noticed lots of kicking and rolling when in the pool! Even when I have a bath. Going again tomorrow so preparing myself for the distractions in my bump!

GiraffeAHolic · 08/08/2011 19:45

Yep Baby Chick like swimming, well just being submerged under the water really, quite an odd sensation :)

I made a quite warm chilli for dinner tonight and had the most movement I have felt so far, every mouthful started off another bout of prodding Grin

Sleepy congratulations on your boy

blueeyedmonster · 08/08/2011 20:08

Welcome biddy and congratulations!

sleepy congratulations on your boy!! I'm still sleeping on my back it seems as thats how I wake up. Going to have to get me another one of those 'v' pillows to sleep with soon as it was the only thing that stopped me last time. I couldn't breathe if I slept on my back once I got to a certain point so had to wedge myself onto my side!

shonnomanom · 08/08/2011 20:32

Congrats on the healthy baby boy sleepy! We are of the same mind here. Another girl would be cheaper but a boy would be lovely.
Dd tells everyone we are having a boy, she laughs at us when we remind her that it might be a girl. Where do they get these ideas from ?? Hmm

Welcome and congrats to Biddy!

Spagbolagain · 08/08/2011 20:34

Well I have had an interesting 24hrs. Was up about 8 times last night throwing up and the other end too. Not being sick any more but just feel totally drained and wiped out. Going to attempt some soup shortly.

Feeling lots of squirming now, think the baby may be detecting my intestinal issues. We're still discussing whether or not to find out the gender. We didn't with DS, but not sure what to do with this one. We've got a week and a bit to decide!

GiraffeAHolic · 08/08/2011 20:38

Sho dd is convinced we're having a girl, she will not listen to any other suggestion, and refers to the bump as "she".

We are not finding out the flavour.

Could be interesting.

Livened · 08/08/2011 20:54

Hi all,

Hope you're feeling a bit better soon spagbol.

Just had my 17 week midwife check-up and heard baby's heart beating! Such a relief as it's a long old wait between scans isn't it...

21 week scan first week in September when we'll find out what we're having - can't wait! Still not felt any definite movements yet - anyone else? Plus I've lost about 4kg through sickness and baby sucking me dry I think! Can't wait to have a proper bump...

Also found out today I'm Rhesus negative which means I'll need an Anti-D injection at 28 weeks - anyone else got this or had it previously? I.e. Is it all safe etc??

Anyway, hope everyone is well and resisting the urge to spend too much yet - I've still got my eye on an iCandy Peach but also like the Mothercare Spin we saw at the weekend, there's just so much to choose from.

Also torn between baby in a Moses basket or one of those rocking small cots for by the bed. I don't want to buy something my baby hates or I only use for 5 minutes but I guess you never know...

Enjoying reading how everyone is getting on as it's all getting very real now!

X

ghosteditor · 08/08/2011 20:57

oeisha as it happens, I just got back from the pool: feel it may be the last time I fit into my swim suit too! But I did notice a fair bit of lurching, especially when I first got in Grin. Just a word of warning to all you swimmers: if you have hip problems, be very careful about how much Brest stroke you do ad it can exacerbate the problem. I have pre-existing hip issues (hyper-mobility) so am mostly swimming crawl these days. [nods sagely]

ghosteditor · 08/08/2011 20:58

'Brest stroke'?? Please excuse my phone typing; not sure where that auto-correct came from!

Mum2be79 · 08/08/2011 21:21

Livened I've got to have anti-D too. I'm sure someone else does too but I can't remember who. I'm B- and as this is my first pregnancy, I have no idea whether it's safe, hurts, where we have it etc, etc. My MW said that when I go for my 20-week scan (FRIDAY 12TH!!!!) they will arrange it then so am assuming it will be at the hospital???

Not put on any weight. instead it drops off. Bump looks a tad smaller (I suppose due to weight loss) but at least he/she moving about!

sleepy Congrats on finding out you're having a boy. My family think I'm having a boy (although I think my mum secretly wants a boy.) whereas friends think it's a girl. I keep changing my mind. DH doesn't want to find out. He's really adamant about it but he has no preference - at least he's not telling me he has!

addictediam · 08/08/2011 21:41

Livened from experience (having had both Moses basket, in living room and crib in our bedroom) the crib was much better. Dd would move in basket and wake herself up, she also grew out of the basket at 3 months and I wasn't ready for her to be in her own room. If we'd only had a basket I would have felt I needed to go out and buy a crib. Hope that helps alittle

Oeisha · 08/08/2011 21:46

From wht I remember of the anti-d discussion on the pregnancy forums, your injection is to safeguard future pregnancies and will have little or no impact on your current one.
If your baby is rhesus + and your body somehow 'discovers' the blood of your baby then you may well build antibodies against this, and future pregnancies are more likely to be compramised.
The only warning I've heard for anti-d is that is IS made from human plasms, not synthetic, so there is a tiny chance of transimitted diseases....so like if you were to have a blood transfusion, but less so.
This site has most of what you need to know babycentre and the nhs site nhs

Hope you feel better soon spagbol
