And we're back......

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fishandlilacs · 31/08/2011 22:44

worm wow i never knew they coud pick it up early, i guess the urine must tell them something is amiss then. Just goes to show, thats given me some comfort anyway. I'm glad her LO is doing well.

pigletmania · 31/08/2011 23:04

Thanks oeisha and congratulations on the great news. My scan is on Friday, wonder what it will be. But whatever it is, we will be very happy as long as its healthy and alive (had 2 MC) after having dd. I had a dream not so long ago that I was bf this new baby, in the summer all chilled and relaxed.

redheadbedhead · 01/09/2011 07:40

Hey guys thanks so much for all the support

If I sit back and look at it from afar, it's really just a lack of a date. I'm sure I'll get one, and in the old days they didn't even have scans. So I'm trying to be magnanimous about it and not get too stressed.

Having said that, I was really stressed and grumpy after being on the phone yesterday Sad

The thing is my hospital is having a bit of a midwife crisis, so I don't have a proper team at the moment, and also there seems to be a baby boom. So I think they're struggling to cope, and me shouting at some poor woman isn't going to change that. So I won't be complaining for at least another 10 days (this is the time frame they've given me for getting my scan). I was very firm and slightly cross on the phone yesterday and it got me nowhere, so for now I'm just going to trust that I'm on the list they tell me I'm on, and wait for the phone call. This is definitely less stressful than ringing up every week. Not doing that any more.

ANYWAY!!

On the subject of names and Boris, anyone else liking Florence until David Cameron nicked it for his kid? Angry For reasons of extreme leftyism I also can't use the name Cameron generally Sad which someone up thread mentioned I think, even though it's a lovely Scottish name. Just can't do it..

And left sleepers - I have been training myself to sleep on the left in case it's a good thing, but I always always end up on my right - It's always been my default sleeping position because I'm deaf in my left ear, so if I sleep on my right it blocks out any sound and helps me sleep better. So sleeping on my left is too noisy! I figure women all over the world sleep in all random ways and most babies turn out fine, so I'm trying not to worry about it thinking it's ok to sleep wherever and however...

redheadbedhead · 01/09/2011 07:41

oooh that was really long sorry Blush got a bit carried away...

redheadbedhead · 01/09/2011 07:52

and ignore the Cameron mentioned up thread, it wasn't mentioned up thread, it was on a different thread. Idiot. I blame the baby brain hormones

addictediam · 01/09/2011 08:04

I was told by my last mw to go to sleep in the correct position, of you moved at noght it wasn't a problem. But if you woke up and realised you were sleeping diffrently change because that is your body telling you there is a problem.

I am really annoyed right now, I was just out bid 2 seconds before the end of an eBay auction. I was going to up my bid to make sure i got it, but didn't see the point because my max was still £50 off and no other bidders since yesterday morning. The saddo must have been sat at his computer just waiting to make sure i didn't even have a chance Angry too scared to bid against me properly like a gentleman.

(I'm sure in a few hours I will look on this and laugh, but right now my hormones are unreasonably raging!)

I'm also waiting for the mw to call me back I keep getting light worms swimming in my eyes as well as possible pgp (but only very early stages!)

GiraffeAHolic · 01/09/2011 09:20

addictediam can you let us know what the midwife says please as I had those floating illuminated worm things yesterday and wasn't sure whether to be concerned or not.

addictediam · 01/09/2011 09:29

Mw said its probably just blood pressure but she wants to see me this pm just to makebsure. I would call your mw

Oeisha · 01/09/2011 09:33

redhead most places, scans are done by a different department (usually radiography), so if you've not tried that avenue, might be worth being on the offensive with them? Explain you've tried going through your MW, but no luck and that you demand to have a date by 3pm. Find out in advance, should be on their website, but ask whoever you speak to for the CEO/ (usually chair of the board) and say you'll be speaking to them today, if they don't cooperate. It isn't good enough and you're totally right to be furious. The scans are set up when they're set up for a reason. There's no reason why you should be recieving sub-standard care just because the MW unit is struggling. They could have refered you on by now. It's not like they've only just fouind out your pg...

piglet what a lovely dream! Smile Much better than mine lastnight, which seemed to involve being at a wedding/ice skating party and not being able to skate as people were worried I'd fall...and then this guy I have a small crush on being mean to me for this reason..! not really sure why btw, he's not at all my type and is a right grumpy bastard. I'll stick with DH... Wink

redheadbedhead · 01/09/2011 09:40

thanks oiesha The people at ante-natal just kept saying they were 'waiting for the sonographers to update the lists'. They said there were technically no spaces free until halfway through october, which is obviously too late, so they were waiting to see when the sonographers could fit in more previously unscheduled apptmts, ie weekends, evenings etc. Under those circumstances I didn't think me insisting was going to get me very far, in fact I worried that they might shove my name even further down the list Sad

Fryn · 01/09/2011 09:59

redhead - I'm with you, I think just wait for the 10 days and then start Oiesha's plan of attack! How very frustrating. However, I know that the MW's do lay on extra sessions at weekends to cover missed appointments, as that's when they saw me when they didn't notice that my MW was on holiday for my actual appointment, so hopefully the sonographers will pull their socks up and sort out some new ones. It's really not looking hopeful on the homebirth front at this rate is it, if they can't even sort out fixed appointments!

I'm lucky as I'm a left sleeper anyway, but I now remember the problem I had with my dream genii pillow last time - as I got bigger, I kept flipping onto my back as it tipped me over! Anyway, easy solution to that is a pillow behind you, and fortunately DH had ditched any plans for, er "romance", by that point, so building a small fortress for me and bump was rather nice!

addicted - what were you bidding on??

Oeisha · 01/09/2011 10:02

redhead Sad indeed. Hopefully radiography can give you a less 'passing the buck' answer. I'd still be tempted to push for it, though I do understand your paranoia about them pushing you down the list. But frankly, who's to say the antenatals aren't lying?! Have you talked to the PALS network in the area? They can usually act as advocates...though I've never used them, so can't relaly say how useful they are.

redheadbedhead · 01/09/2011 10:11

whats PALS?

GiraffeAHolic · 01/09/2011 10:40

Oh heck thanks addicted. I only have a medicom number for my MW so I'll see if it happens again before I call.

Hope you're appointment goes ok

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 01/09/2011 10:42

Ugh. Dh decided to come back in the bedroom last night (he's been sleeping next door because we both kept waking each other up) and again neither of us slept properly. I just want to lie down on the sofa, pull a duvet over me and watch crappy TV, but I have a meeting I need to get to and I may as well go to my baby group first.

Yuck. I hate being this tired.

shonnomanom · 01/09/2011 10:43

We have a major baby boom here just now as well. And with the 2 local hospitals downgrading to 'community' hospitals as they open the new uber hospital. It must be pretty difficult organising all the scans.
However, they are only doing the 12 week scans at the uber hosp and the 20week scans are being done by a mw at a community hosp at the general ultrasound department.
My point is, that regardless of staff shortages and baby booms your hosp should be more organised, they are messing about with very hormonal, vulnerable women.

floating worms I have had this on and off since early teenager. In my experience, its to do with blood pressure. But at points I have also been told that I must have had a virus that has caused it. When they said that though I had also lost my periferal(sp?) vision in my left eye(queue minor carcrash) and was sent for an MRI. Never got the MRI as we discovered at the medical prior to scan that I was expecting Dd.

Dd is at her first full day in nursery today. She walked in as if she had been going for years! No tears or anything, just waves to mum from the sand pit. FEW!!

shonnomanom · 01/09/2011 10:49

HaHa that should be PHEW not Few. whoopsie!

Oeisha · 01/09/2011 11:23

readhead They're the Patient Advice and Liason Service service...PALS They're supposed to act as advocates and help you navigate your way to good care...
Of course, if you're not UK based, you may not have these...I keep forgetting this isn't an exclusively UK based forum!

PALS should be available through all healthcare settings, though you may not see someone direct if the unit's isolated or small, but they should have information on PALS available, adn they should provide you with someone to talk to! Might be worth having them onside.

addicted hope you get and answer to your light-squiggles. Let us know, as I've had these, usually followed by feeling dizzy - so have been putting it down to my low BP.

goatshavestrangeeyes · 01/09/2011 11:57

Hi all only just found this, hope you don't mind latecomers? Grin

I'm expecting dc3, due 23/01/2012 but have a c section booked in for the 15th. Already have a girl and a boy, hopefully find out the sex of this baby a week today.

fishandlilacs · 01/09/2011 12:47

welcome goats newbies always welcome. Were a lovely bunch, if I don't mind saying so myself.

fishandlilacs · 01/09/2011 12:48

also Redhead i think you should move to worcestershire. I have been so local with my level of care. Mind you i am sure you dont need to hear that, it just goes to remind me not to take it for granted when they start messing me about.

GiraffeAHolic · 01/09/2011 12:49

Welcome goats just jump right in, we're a chatty bunch Smile

Oeisha · 01/09/2011 13:10

Welcome goats!

Feel free to add your details to our stats list thread.

redhead come to Buxton...then I won't feel like the only one in the area having a baby in Jan! Though I did spy someone else in for an ultrasound yesterday...can't be sure it was for a baby, let alone a Jan one (she was not 'obviously' pregnant), but she had her family with her inc. children...

Feeling a bit better today, or it that just the post-shower bounce?! Def. gonna give Ikea a go - to cheer myself up looking at nursery stuff. Going to go to work tomorrow - only 4h...surely it won't kill me. Plus am going slightly mental at home. Am going to cancel driving lesson as head's still sore and frankly I don't need the stress tomorrow. Genlty, gently...

Been discussing names. We've found four we both like, and one we prefer. I'm just caustious as what if she doesn't look like her name when she's out??? We both had boy names pretty much nailed, but I dunno. Or are we just weird for even wanting to name Yolkis this early on? Either way, it's bloody freaky having another human kicking about inside me...

Oeisha · 01/09/2011 13:35

Gah, looking for 3/4 length sleeve tops...as frankly it's COLD...anyway....not having any luck so far...let me know if anyone finds any out there...

ghosteditor · 01/09/2011 13:38

hey oeisha, I bought a fairly nice black 3/4 sleeve top from New Look maternity quite recently - it's nice and stretchy and seems fine so far after a few wears, and a couple of washes. NL is the only place I've found with a maternity range in store near me so I may find myself there more often in future!

While we're on clothes, does anyone have any specific recommendations for smart office wear (not a suit)? I have five days of meetings coming up in October (over 60 appointments!) so will need to be comfortable, plus not too hot (inside a big conference venue) but could be cold outside. I have the twist dress thingy from Topshop already and love it, but fancy a jersey dress and maybe a black skirt too, which should see me through.
