A new thread for the bus!

Hi ladies, I'm from the July thread and had my baby 5 weeks ago. I have just listed my maternity clothes on Ebay, lots of summery items for the hot weather, all at 99p starting price. I think they will go cheaply as the photos are rubbish but I don't have time to do better ones, with a newborn and a 2 year old. I'm also giving away a free baby sleepsuit with each purchase. If you're looking for any clothes, PM me and I'll give you the link. Jojo Maman, Topshop, Next etc. Good luck with your babies!

8 boxes of pram Shock

we actually now have some bits, but by accident. A co-worker of my mum figured that we wouldn't have got round to anything and gave her loads of old vests and babygro's (plus a few other bits) all in 0-3 months so that's the newborn covered :)

I'm not having rib issues this time around, although have been in non-wired for a while. Last time I swear DD got up in my right ribs and never looks back. Nigel sits very low in comparison.

I've found the heat OK, but DD has struggled at night here (no AC or fans). We did spend two weeks in temperatures over 100F so I think that's sorted me out for a while.

Tomorrows task is to track down a local MW, figure I might just ring the hospital and see what they say, although it's only a MLU one here.

Hope you all have some lovely sleep

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/08/2011 10:27

hi all
when i had DS i was a bit gutted that i "missed" the bounty photographer on the ward, but i just checked their website and they don't operate in my hospital so i won't get the chance with this baby either.

the hospital i'm booked into is 8 miles away, bounty do operate in one 14miles away, would it be totally irrational to change hospitals to one further just so i can get a portrait of baby when its born?

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/08/2011 10:40

am also Shock @ 8 boxes of pram!!! but then sort of understandable as its for twins isn't it?

DSs pram came in 5 boxes i think and he was a sigleton!

MrsHende · 04/08/2011 10:51

I have no idea how those of you who live further south are coping with the heat. I feel the way I felt when I lived in a flat in Spain with no A/C but I'm in rainy Glasgow!! Although I hear that the temperature in London at least has dropped 10 degrees today so I hope you are all a lot more comfortable.

I went shopping yesterday for maternity clothes and had to share with you all the fantastic bargains that I got! I went to a Next clearance shop and between it being clearance and then a sale on top of that I got some skinny jeans for £3, a cardigan for £3 (could barely try it on I was so hot but was thinking ahead to autumn!!!!) and three tops for £3-5 each! Has anyone else found anyplace good for maternity clothes? I'm only now needing them, I've been able to wear my normal clothes till this weekend and I've suddenly exploded!!

Edward I must admit that I did giggle a bit when I read your post! You probably are being irrational but if you can't be irrational when pregnant when can you! I thought it was our perogative!! I've never seen a bounty portrait so I don't know what you're missing out on but I can imagine that it would be lovely to have really good photos of day 1. Let us know what you decide!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/08/2011 11:03

MrsHende i'm in airdire so not far from you Grin i'm currently booked into Wishaw General, but i hear that bounty work in glasgow royal infirmary (although they haven't listed that on their website) so i've emailed them in hope that i can still use the service (its also really cheap compared to normal photographers, and they donate some proceeds to the hospital for every pic taken.
here's a link to some of their pics they are just lovely

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/08/2011 11:04

airdrie Blush

MrsHende · 04/08/2011 11:39

The pictures are gorgeous right enough! I hope they get back to you.

I'm booked into the royal. I live really close to it and drive past the maternity hospital every time I go anywhere. I used to love looking over when I drove past to see excited people walking out with their new babies. Now I have to look the other way because I get scared every time I think about it!! Grin

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/08/2011 12:49
Grin i'll let you know if they'll be in the royal when they get back to me, if so i'll change there as its only slightly further than wishaw from me, the only nearby hospitals listed on bounty website are stirling and edinburgh.

they do a package for £45 and you get lots of copies to send to GPs etc, with DS we went to a photographer twice (at different ages) we got 15 pictures (all 6 by 4 size) between to photographers and spent £440 in total Shock so it is a big difference!

i grew up in east end only moved to Airdrie after the wedding, i think there's a couple of us on the thread from glasgow and around we should all meet up when we finish work Grin

BabCNesbitt · 04/08/2011 15:40

Hello, dearies - shows how long I've been away if I come back to find us all on a shiny new thread!

28+2 today, and I'm really starting to feel big and ungainly, not to mention sleeping like crap and suffering with indigestion, but I'm wary of moaning too much at this stage and using up all DH's patience already - after all, there are another two months of this to get through! Looking forward to dozing off gently at the end of the pregnancy yoga class this evening - is it rather sad that that'll be the highlight of my day? Grin

BB3 · 04/08/2011 18:10

Hello hello

Well I am officially in a grump for no reason whatsoever other than I can be because I am 63 weeks pregnant (technically 31+3 but there is two in there so I figure I can double it!), humungous and fed up. Fed up of everything!

How is everyone else?

Edward, yes the pram is for twins AND 2 of the boxes are the maxi cosy car seats so the pram itself is 6 boxes - we are going to get it out tonight when DS is in bed and check it all over. Please God let it be in perfect condition as I am THE WORLD's WORST PERSON when it comes to faulty goods, I really, really lose my temper - mostly with DH who thinks it's acceptable for there to be a scratch on a new £100 brabantia bin (it is not, no matter how small it is!). Yes we didn't pay £100 because it was in the sale but that is NOT the point!!! (Whoops maybe I shouldn't open it tonight, just in case!!! Wink)

Penguin YES with the ribs, what's that about?!?!?! Never had it with DS but feel like I need to arch my back constantly and stretch out my ribs - if I am sat up straight it's agony but doesn't matter if I have bra on or off it still hurts - feels like they are trying to get out the top and bottom at the same time Grin.

I didn't know Bounty did pics? Is that all UK or just certain areas?

Last night was a joy, actually being able to sleep in clothes UNDER the covers. The coolness hasn't quite stayed all day today but so much better than yesterday!

Anyway, dinner time. Hope everyone has a lovely evening. BB xxx

CheshireDing · 04/08/2011 18:52

Maybe I just have odd lady bits! Snort, at others having bulgy bits or bits they can't even see (I did have to look in the mirror) :)

I do not feel too concerned and will save it for my next Midwife appointment where she can think I am odd.

I was cranky yesterday because it took me 45 minutes to upload some photos and my back was hurting (queue tears), however today I have just got over it, until the next ridiculously insignificant incidence of course! :)

8 weeks before my leave starts AND COUNTING.

cheekydino · 04/08/2011 19:43

Good luck with the pram all being functioning BB3, I only have one box to open for mine and still haven't managed to check it. Must do. The dresser we bought from John Lewis came in 3 boxes, and half way through building it my dh noticed one box had the wrong bits so we had to wait for a new one. Am hoping it was a one off and that all our purchases aren't jinxed.

Well, I have almost managed to make it past the equivalent day in my pregnancy where I had my son (31+5). Have had a rubbish day and am also in a complete grump for no good reason but should try and be grateful I am still pregnant!

Welcome back bab, and I can sympathise with the crap sleep, indigestion and trying not to use up moaning at dh! How do people cope with this end bit of pregnancy?

bilblio · 04/08/2011 22:20

Hello all! Ooh a new thread.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one being grumpy and irrational and suffering in this heat. I'll let DH know he's not the only one dealing with a hormonal pregnant woman.

I've had a week of real ups and downs involving 2 deaths, 1 miscarriage, a broken car exhaust costing £300, my birthday, a lovely funeral, (sounds odd, but it really was, the lady had dementia, there were lots of tears but also lots of laughter and celebrating her life.)

Oh also a great camping trip (except for the broken exhaust, the AA fixed it enough for us to get home with strict instructions "take it easy, don't detour, and go straight to a garage on Monday... which was also my birthday.)
I don't recommend walking on the beach when you have SPD... it hurts!

Cheshire I'm in Cheshire too, the Tameside part of Cheshire just to be confusing. I'm definitely up for meeting up.
Also Pebbles wasn't at all bohemian. She lived in a very very deprived, chavvie area.

Post-natal wards... I spent the night on one, there were 4 of us to a room. You could hire a private room for £30 but they were all full when I got there. If you had a CS you had to be on a group ward near the nurses station so they could keep an eye on you.
One poor girl on my ward had been there a week... and celebrated her 18th birthday there. She was fine but her baby was jaundiced so they couldn't go home. I found it very hard to sleep, DD was fine, slept soundly after her usual 11-midnight hiccuping, but 1 baby wouldn't settle so the Mum was cuddling him all night because she didn't want him to disturb us.... however the last Mum laid in bed saying "please be quiet baby, Mummy needs some sleep now"... Grrr so did the rest of us!
On the plus side there was always someone around to keep an eye on your baby when you went to the loo. :)

This time (if my placenta moves) I'm going with midwifery led care and hoping to be home within 6 hours.

Breastfeeding tops - I never bought any. I went with the vest under, normal top over method. Also bras, be wary of buying them early... don't buy loads. I got measured for them a few weeks before I was due, but my rib cage expanded loads, so they were miles too big. I had to go and buy more. Also Mothercare bras are rubbish IMO
I've also got rib issues. LO has it's feet right under my left rib. I'm fine at home, but I was so uncomfortable sat at my desk on Wednesday.

Phew I think that's me caught up.

Oh is anyone else not going to antenatal classes? I went to the NHS ones with DD, and I read up lots so I'm (hopefully) well informed. The MW hasn't mentioned anything, just wondering if I need to ask about them.

BB3 · 05/08/2011 11:42

Bilbio sorry to here about the downs of your past few weeks - hopefully now all will be up until these little munchkins arrive for us all.

I decided not to do the pram last night as REALLY wasn't in the mood so instead took my mood out on a sleepy DH all night! However I did do it this morning and it's all perfect - as is the moses basket so all happy here!! it's now back boxed up in the nursery. I am actually getting a bit excited now!

Today's mood is much better - there are a few things bugging me but nothing that won't be sorted soon!

Question, I want to get the nursery done before the babies arrive but I am getting SOO Much push back from DH and family who say it's not important. I don't have room for baby clothes in our room and I keep getting 'you could put them in the drawers under the bed as a temporary measure as the babies will be in your room!' I know that but I WANT THEM TO HAVE THERE OWN ROOM even if they don't sleep in it! AIBU?

BB3 · 05/08/2011 11:46

Bloody iphone - their own room, not there!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 05/08/2011 12:32

YANBU

i have the same argument with DH all the time i have now told him that he has no choice in the matter DD will need her own space for clothes toys etc and it will be easier to do it when she is still in my tummy, than if she's attached to my breast Grin

i also had DSs room done before he was born and loved to just sit in it before he came [pathetic emoticon] it makes the whole thing seem more real and i think helps prepare you for their arrival.

BB3 · 05/08/2011 14:33

That is my point exactly Edward I do not want to be putting up wallpaper, making chest of drawers and arranging all the clothes / blankets shelves etc (which I want to do not leave to others) when I have a toddler and two 6 week old babies!!! There argument is we did the same with DS and didn't use his room at all but in my defence, our old house it was three stories and DS's room was on the second floor ours was on the third floor (third floor was the loft room only) and we co-slept after his moses basket until he was about 6 months. In this house the nursery is next to ours and I am not co-sleeping with the twins as it's not as practical!

I think I might have to have a pregnancy strop next weekend and demand it happens! I just want to get the room cleared, and wallpaper up then I can get curtains etc and that's all small stuff but at the moment it's a storage room!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 05/08/2011 15:19

my current house is same as you're last one our bedroom is on 3rd floor and DD&DS will be on 2nd floor, i found that i used DSs room more for that reason although he wasn't sleeping in there i did nappy changes, clothes changes and bathtime there as it was easier than climbing another flight of stairs to get his stuff if it was in my room.

LittlePebble · 05/08/2011 16:04

Bilblio sorry to hear you've had such a bad few weeks. X

BB3 and Edward I can't wait to get nursery done either, I think you're right if I can see it and sit in it hopefully it will make it seem real. Not going to be able to do anything though until September when work calms down a bit.
Those of you with DC already did you have them in the room with you or have them in the nursery? Ours is next door to our room but not sure what's best? Confused everyone seems to have different opinions.

PenguinArmy · 05/08/2011 16:14

my mood is surprisingly cheerful, only way to get through the ILs stay is to see the funny side of it

I have a MW appointment and a date for the clinic to get anti-D jab. They were really helpful. Just phoned the hospital, said I was only in the area for a month, but not registered with the UK for this pg and needed a check and jab. They rand back in a few hours with the times and apologised for not being able to get a earlier one (next tues and fri). I was expecting them to turf me over to community MWs

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 05/08/2011 16:49

penguinarmy thats good you got your midwife sorted should be a weight off your shoulders now.

littlepebble i started with DS in my room but he only lasted there 3 months (if that) as he was quite a grunty nasal sleeper (newborns are actually quite noisy even when they're sound) but i got the angelcare sound and movement monitor which sets off an alarm if they stop breathing for 20 seconds. so he was in his cot from around 3 months which was on a completely different floor to us [bad mother emoticon] but i found all 3 of us got much better quality sleep this way. (i also started dreamfeeds at around this age to give me a little more sleep)

i'm totally exhausted gutted the house on wednesday and as i'm getting bigger now i'm finding it really hard to get a decent sleep at night, and between work and DS can't have a nap during the day so look like a zombie. as a result i've decided to bring Mat leave forward by 2 weeks meaning i'd finish 5 weeks today Grin i'm still waiting approval from my boss but shouldn't be a problem. just finding work really bad now and struggling to sope with it.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 05/08/2011 16:50

cope

sorry for the mammoth post everyone.

bilblio · 05/08/2011 17:23

bb3 our nursery is still Dh's office and likely to be that way till spring. Dh is useless at painting but thankfully parents are ace. It is making me a bit unsettled though, I'd like to at least get it painted, even if it remains dh office.

DD was in our room till she was 6 months old so we shouldn't need the extra room but I agree it's so much easier doing this stuff when the baby is in my belly... or pointing while others do it, :o rather than afterwards when everyone is tired.

I'm due to start mat leave on Monday from one of my jobs. Been on annual leave for 8 weeks, my manager told me 2 days ago she's lost the request fors so I've had to do them all again! So annoyed. If I get overpaid I'll be fuming. [Angry]

LittlePebble · 05/08/2011 17:49

We're getting the angelcare monitor, I think it's the only way I'll be able to stop myself standing over the cot checking for breathing Blush.
Forgive me ignorance but what's dreamfeeding?
