Wow it's all action on here - I'm hoping it spurs me on to do useful stuff like pack my hospital bag (properly, as opposed to the few pairs of knickers and a pair of pyjamas I have thrown in a holdall)!

I'm still really chilled about the whole thing and I'm 35+1 today - I'm guessing the panic will set in soon and I'll finally get out of this denial that I am going to have to give birth quite soon - especially as the Dr thinks he will be a few weeks early as his head is already so far down.

Sassy Sorry to hear about your SIL - hopefully they have caught it early enough that it is treatable. Your poor family must be going through an awful time of it.

Pebble I'm glad to hear everything is ok with the baby. From what I gather, the Doppler machines aren't always that effective, but that's no consolation when you are lying there and the Dr can't find a heartbeat. The same happened to me earlier on in the pregnancy and in the 2 minutes it had taken her to put the Doppler down and get the ultrasound going I had cried a good 10 litres of tears. (Everything was fine, but you do fear the worst). It sounds like your hospital is great too, which I bet really helped.

I'm off to pick up my natal hypnotherapy CD up from the post office today, but might join you all for tea and cake afterwards. (Who am I kidding, if there is cake, I'll be there :o )

Hope everyone is well!

LaterAlligator · 01/09/2011 08:32

BB3 You have just confirmed my fears that everyone is really active and prepared and I am not!

Right. Off to make a plan of action. Must. Achieve. Something. Today!

Penelope1980 · 01/09/2011 09:23

bb3 I feel very odd about leaving work, am a workaholic too and it's hard to leave! But, it's all for the best, and am hoping my replacement is OK ....

lateralligator I'll join you in packing the hospital bag. Suspect that a pile of massive knickers, some toiletries and some random baby clothes won't cut it

BB3 · 01/09/2011 09:41

Haha! Don't fear I doubt all that will get done - all depending on work. Although it may be a blessing or a curse but my phone seems to have broken and I can't hear people that call or that I call so could be a quiet day!! I've got to finish my handover today - that has to be a priority! (She says as she has just finished building one drawer unit!) Am hoping they look ok have bought the cheap ikea ones with the corrugated plastic in the drawer fronts and going to put infills on them to cover that up in the same paper as the feature wall in the nursery. Well that's the plan. Although I've made them in the living room which could be a mistake as I cart them upstairs!!!

BB3 · 01/09/2011 09:45

Penelope I too am feeling a bit strange about leaving but to be honest my replacement is a nightmare - really arrogant and uninterested so part of me is petrified of leaving and the other part thinks screw it let her fall on her face!! Also it's been a tough few months as a small ish company so it will be nice not to worry about clients and financials for a few months. I'm also going back to a differed role so I've been naturally distancing myself for a few months so that it's easier on my return.

BB3 · 01/09/2011 09:46

Different not differed !!!

bilblio · 01/09/2011 11:01

sassy so sorry to hear about your SIL. As others have said it's one of the best cancers to treat so hopefully she'll be okay. My cousin is having treatment at the moment. She was having tests to find out why she was struggling to get pregnant, got pregnant, then found out she had cervical cancer. They removed a small part of her cervix but the doctors were happy for her to continue with the pregnancy. 3 months after her DD was born she had a hysterectomy (she has 2 children now so they decided to be aggressive with the treatment) she's just finished her chemo and is starting radiotherapy soon.
She's doing really well, and no signs of it having spread even though there was a 9 month delay on getting any proper treatment.

Everyone seems really busy today. My parents are coming up this afternoon, DD has been with them for a few days. So I'm trying to make an attempt at tidying before they arrive... because my Mum will go berserk cleaning when she gets here. I suspect she'll be going home with a load of grey baby clothes a friend gave me....

I'm also waiting for someone from Freegle to come and collect our old kitchen cupboard doors so I can get into our shed again (and put more junk in it.) They were supposed to be here at 10. Actually they were supposed to come on Monday but didn't show up so we rearranged for today.... Grrr hate waiting for people!

mpops · 01/09/2011 11:51

sassy, I am so sorry to hear about your SIL. It must be a very trying time for your family, I can't even begin to imagine. Hope it all works out. It sounds like they've caught it early and she's young so you should all be hopeful.

Pebble, what a scare. I had a similar thing week before last. Hadn't felt the baby move for about 10 hours and was in a right state when I went to the hospital first thing in the morning. Turns out she was fine but I was completely dehydrated so she must have gone all sleepy. I totally understand how it must have felt. So glad you're both OK.

CheshireDing · 01/09/2011 13:10

Afternoon you busy lot :)

We had our scan this morning to check the placenta has moved and it's totally out of Porgeys exit (so to speak) so am super pleased about that. I means I can buy the Yankee Candles now and order a birth pool. Even if I decide it's agony and want to go to hospital in the end at least it will be my choice then.

Now having to listen to constant beeping whilst DH tries to get the car seat off the isofix base in practise!

monkeybubbles · 01/09/2011 13:38

had my last NCT class last night...sort of makes me feel as though i should be ready to have this baby now, yikes!
still have 2 weeks to wait until the scan to see if my placenta has moved up, but am thinking positive and preparing for natural birth. have hired a TENS machine from my NCT teacher and have signed up for the active birth class at the hospital.

mpops hiring the TENS only cost me £20, seemed a bit less than mothercare, etc and is more convenient to return

cheshireding yay for the moved placenta and yankee candles!!!

littlepebble that is shocking that a faulty doppler could cause that much stress, it should be policy to try another doppler before sending someone off terrified! glad you're both ok

sassy so sorry to hear about your SIL, i hope that you'll find out soon that it hasn't spread and can be treated easily

sign me up for tea and cake ;)

34 weeks today!

meravigliosa · 01/09/2011 19:36

sassy sorry to hear about SIL, hope so much that as others have said this can be treated successfully.

pebble what a horrible scare, glad all OK.

Cheshireding good news re placenta.

I am 35 weeks today. Saw mw, head 3/5 palpable, so at least facing and heading in the right direction. She took more blood to see if Hb any better since I started taking the double dose of spatone. Dont', don't, don't want iron tablets again, they make my constipation so much worse, and I already have the haemorrhoids from hell (sorry, tmi!)

TallyBear · 01/09/2011 19:58

Monkey where did you hire the Tens from? How long is that for? I'm quite curious, although like the idea of a water birth and guess the two don't go together!

little pebble that sounds awful but at least LO is OK, and the machine was faulty not him/her. I think I'd rather go through a fake scare than not realise something was wrong. Sounds like they were on the ball at the hospital, so that's reassuring. Don't you just sometimes wish you could have a glass of wine after something like that?!

sassy Sending positive thoughts your way, along with everyone else.

Our baby-bath and bottle set arrived today! Yeah. Gradually getting organised and ticking things off the list.

Bubs is wiggling like crazy. Can't help but worry a little bit about the second scan next week (has he grown or not?) but on movement alone it must be good.

Having a bit of a nightmare with dentists. Been really slack about booking an appointment and phoned the other day to be told I've been removed from their list and can't go on again until at least December. They reckon they've sent me letters saying that I would be removed if I didn't make an appointment but I swear I never got them. Argh!! Finally found another dentist in the next town who are taking on NHS patients so fingers crossed I can get in there.

TallyBear · 01/09/2011 20:19

Forgot, I'm 32+4 today. Getting close! Scary!

BB3 · 02/09/2011 09:52

New baby smell, newborn cuddles, cute little baby toes, cute little baby clothes.... I am trying my hardest to think of all the good things about newborn babies to stop myself losing my tiny mind.... Goodness me these last few weeks are going to DRAG!

sassy how did finishing off the house go?

later oh stay chilled, best way to be. I am chilled about the babies, just not so much about having to stay pregnant for three more weeks! Grin

Bilblio enjoy the few days by yourself, did they come and get it in the end? I absolutely hate waiting for people. I also hate being late myself (although inevitably always am by about 10 minutes!)

Cheshire Yay for porgey behaving and yankey candles - lol at DH and the car seat. I am deliberating about the car seat base - part of me thinks it's a great idea but then the kids will be between three different cars - mine, DH's and nanny's (DS has 0-4 fixed seats in each one) so I think for the moving around it might not be worth it, especially as I won't be driving for 6 weeks with the CS but they are SO much easier to slot in! One of my neighbours went into labour yesterday and had a home birth. She went into hospital this morning as the baby needed some help but was merrily filling up her birthing pool yesterday afternoon!

monkey positive placenta-moving-vibes coming your way!

Merav yay for engaging babies - I think it's about a cm a week they say once it's started isn't it so not long to go now!!

Tally you can use the TENS for the early labour part then get into the pool once they start strengthening and the TENS works less. I too keep meaning to book a dentist - am writing a to do list for next week of all the personal things I need to do and that will be one of them!

Penelope happy last day at work! 7.5 hours left at work for me!

34+3 today

sassy34264 · 02/09/2011 10:17

thanks everyone. x

cheshire good news about the placenta.
tally hope your bub has grown. im positive mine weighs 2 stone already! (would explain the 3 stone i have put on! argh. )

bb3 we finished emptying babies room of dd1's stuff. she is now fully in her new bedroom (loft conversion) my mum tried to move the babies cots from our room into the babies room, but the door casing to the loft stopped her. dp will need to take them apart and put them back up again in their room. we painted the fireplace and the skirting boards in the dining room and my mum did most of my washing and ironing. hooray for mums!
went to the haidressers and the doctors. he says jacob has childhood eczema. gave me moisterising cream for his body and medical cream for his face. hydro something. says most grow out of it by the age of 5.

rebelwithoutababy · 02/09/2011 13:55

Hi all! Big hugs to sassy: hope things turn out ok for SIL, but agree with posters on here re: good prognosis with treatment. Let us know how she gets on.
Pebbles: what a horrible experience, although reassuring to know hospital on the ball. Stupid dopplers! Hope you can have some time to relax and get over the shock....
Bloody hell Sassy and BB3 you are putting us all to shame with the amount you both get done with LOs already! Feel inspired to do lots of organising this weekend myself...DH is going to put up shelves in nursery, and think I will sort all clothes/bedding, get them washed and in drawers etc. Hospital bag now all sorted except need bendy straws!
Cheshire: yay for moving placenta: great news re: HB, you go girl!
Have a good weekend all
xxx
oh, and 34+5 today

BB3 · 02/09/2011 14:08

bendy straws????

rebelwithoutababy · 02/09/2011 16:22

Yes, apparently good for being able to drink whilst in compromising birth positions...

BB3 · 02/09/2011 17:27

Ah I'd never thought of that! Makes sense and much more sense than what I was thinking making up for their use! I was only allowed sips of water and no drink because I was on the drip thing to induce labour!

BB3 · 02/09/2011 17:35

Oh sassy well done on all the jobs! Hopefully it will clear up - a lot of my friends had it as kids and did grow out of it!

Hairdressers that sounds like bliss!! Now what are people's thoughts on hair colour. Highlights this late in pg yes or no? I normally don't have them done but as I've got time to kill I could go next week....

BB3 · 02/09/2011 17:37

And Penelope are you all done too? Work is officially over for me (well 8 days holiday then mat leave!) yay!!!

MrsHende · 02/09/2011 18:08

Ooooh! I'm so jealous of you guys on mat leave!! I've only just gone back to work after my summer holidays, the next 5 and a bit weeks in front of me feel like an eternity! Although, at my current rate of UTIs and little scares I'll probably only work 2/3s of those days!

Everyone sounds so organised, I had a look in Tesco tonight when I was doing some food shopping and just can't get my head around needing all these baby things! I'm telling myself that you're all MUCH further on than me - my due date is 29th Oct so I'm guessing I'm one of the least far on on the thread. And anyone who is due on the 30th or 31st who has their hospital bag packed and baby clothes bought - sshhh! sticking head in the sand emoticon

Is anyone else thinking about a playlist for when you're in labour? (Totally got my priorities right! No big pants, babygros, bendy straws or nappies but I've started my playlist!!! Grin) Let me know your ideas!

Have a great weekend girls!!

31+6+denial!

mpops · 02/09/2011 18:52

Oooh, blimey, look at you all being super organised. Brilliant!

Where do you suggest I buy a couple of cheap long nighties from for the hospital? I guess I need them to have buttons down the front, right? It's the one thing missing from my hospital bag!

35+2. Brrrrr!

TallyBear · 02/09/2011 19:11

MrsHende don't worry, you're not the only one. I'm due on 23rd and got a few things but by no means fully organised.

I've had a few thoughts about a playlist. Think I'm going for the calming type things. I've got the Classical chillout album, which is lovely and the MoS chillout from a few years back which also has some nice things on there. Air also has some nice calming songs. Oo, I think I need to go and do this now. Thinking about it has inspired me.......

bilblio · 02/09/2011 20:17

A think a playlist should be a top priority after last time. I thought the idea just seemed a bit naff, and I wouldn't care, but the MW's had MagicFM on, and DH and I just kept thinking, "don't let it be born to this one, ooh this is okay, no, not this one." We don't like most pop music, but the 80's stuff was okay.
DD was born at midday, in the middle of the traffic report. :o

I've just mentioned it to DH and he's asked if I'll ever speak to him again if he puts "Push it" by Salt n Pepa on. Hmm

Don't worry MrsHende, I'm a few days ahead of you and disorganised too.... although I do keep trying.
Today I've set up a new fish tank and this evening I've finally managed to get all DD's old clothes sorted out. Tomorrow I'm going to sort out our bedroom and clear the junk so that we have a less cluttered corner for the carrycot, and maybe get some gardening done... that's the plan anyway.

I didn't get to sleep last night until 3am so I'm doing everything I can to tire myself out. (There might be a touch of nesting too... but the SPD means I can't do the DIY jobs I did last time.)

BB3 no, the freegle woman didn't show up. Grrr. I'm going to offer them on a neighbouring group now. If anyone would like a load of kitchen cupboard doors give me a shout. :o
