Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ooh 32+4 Can't believe I had to work that out. I always just knew with DD. This one will be the neglected 2nd child. :)

Penelope1980 · 03/09/2011 01:16

bb3 yes I finished work! How was your day? Mine was weird - this is my first baby and I've always been quite career focussed until now so leaving felt like a big moment and a reminder of how much life is going to change, esp my priorities. I just have to trust that everything is in good hands and try and remember to put my work phone and swipe card somewhere I remember to find them again when I go back to work ... the first thing I am going to do on Mat leave is get a pile of books to read, and try and work out how not to become too obsessed with mumsnet and facebook while I am home all day ... Grin

Penelope1980 · 03/09/2011 01:19

bilblio LOL at 'push it'. When I used to do a lot of running cheesy 80s pop was always the best thing to run to, wonder if it is true for birth as well? Eye of the Tiger etc .. I hadn't thought of a playlist although will take my old running playlist along just in case now you mention it

CheshireDing · 03/09/2011 08:13

MrsH and mpops I would say Primarni for the nighties and a bit of Adele for the music, she's on my iPod now as her albums are really chilled out. I am going to get DH to put some James Blunt on too. Its pathetic I really should know how to do it myself.

I do worry about those types of questions that Porgey will ask that will make me feel about 100 - such as "what was your favourite website when you were growing up" "did you have a mobile when you were a child" my friends son asked her what it was when she showed him a 12inch vinyl!

Bit of gloating this morning - I slept ALL through the night and feel amazingly awake now. I know you're all jealous :)

BB3 · 03/09/2011 15:24

Oh no MrsHende UTIs and scares doesn't sound good but hopefully these next few weeks will go fast for you.

Playlist is a good idea but can I advise you to make a couple? I didn't have one for DS but honestly my moods changed so much during labour where it went on so bloody long that I imagine my taste in music would have changed a lot too!

mpops - also might be worth trying M&S or Debenhams for nighties. Looking in the older section (but avoiding the OAP ones!).

Bilblio Smile at traffic report birth - she obviously didn't want to risk coming on a bad song! I wasn't even aware of noise around me when I was in full blown labour with DS - I was barely aware of DH - I just wanted him (DS) out asap! Grin Grin Grin at push it!! Well done on getting sorted. How annoying about the woman - that is so annoying! and rude!!! I'm the opposite, didn't have a clue on weeks with DS but these ones I know to the day as there is so many points I needed to get through.

Penelope mine was a bit of an anticlimax to be fair - was expecting to feel either a) really sad or b) a huge wave of relief and actually it just felt like the end of any day. I guess it wasn't as big of a deal as I was at home not in the office. But I remember being really weirded out leaving with DS. And I also went back to work and have managed to pick up my career after DS so am not feeling as worried about that with these two although realistically there will be much more of a change with three of them rather than just the one.

Cheshire very, VERY jealous of your sleep. I had the worst night on record. DH and I bickered before bed which always unrests me then I was up every 30 minutes with either pain or toilet breaks then DS woke up at 1am, came into our bed but is suffering really badly from cramp or growing pains and was up screaming from 1.30 holding his feet and legs. He then refused to go to bed, we tried our room, his room and eventually gave up and came downstairs where he lolled for a bit and then decided to wake up and play until 5am at which point he zonked on the sofa but I was wide awake. He's now out with nanny for the day so I have had a two hour nap and have woken up sweating from the heat and have an afternoon of DVDs planned. I figure by the point our kids are old enough to ask them questions I will be old enough to cope with them(!) Same with sex questions etc - Until that point I am ignoring any thoughts of them!!

BB3 · 03/09/2011 15:25

Oh 34+4

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 03/09/2011 15:40

I'm also jealous of ur sleep, I didn't sleep too badly but was up 3 times to toilet.
I have cleaned and emptied baby's room so it's now ready to paint Grin am now in agony though with my pelvis.

Things I'm looking forward to after the birth:
Sex!
Sleep although I know it'll be a while before either.
Newborn cuddles
Seeing DS reaction to his sister
Walking rather than waddling.
Time off work.

I'm sure there's more but can't think of anything else right now.

33+5 only 44 days to go!

BabiesBolat · 03/09/2011 16:10

I am a horrible wife - sex is so far down the list of my looking forward too's!! It was that act that got me into this situation in the first place Grin and now I am fat and full of babies and in immense pain while DH swans around like normal! Wink. I am sure the desire will come back after a couple of weeks (think it was about a month or so last time) and getting into a normal routine but right now he'll be lucky if he ever gets it again!! He keeps talking about the next baby - yeah right - jog on jimmy! Let's see how we cope with three of the beggers!!!

BabiesBolat · 03/09/2011 16:13

Edward rest up for the afternoon with your legs raised - that's the only thing that seems to help my pelvis when I do too much. I'm suffering a bit from swollen feet so will might soak them for a bit later... DS is out or the afternoon at carnival with nanny so am going to do absolutely nothing ALL day and I'm not getting dressed. I'll be getting in the bath in a bit and then will get changed into another pair of PJs!!

A very lazy 34+4

BB3 · 03/09/2011 16:20

Sorry - back to my shiny normal self - babiesbolat is my old post natal name for a very old thread that's suddenly got a bit active again and I am getting too confused with the name changing!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 03/09/2011 18:33

I wish I could, I relaxed for a bit then took DS to the park as he's not been out all day (and Lego and DVDs only last so long) plus need to tire him out so he'll sleep tonight Grin

I am looking forward to a nice bubble bath tonight though!

BB3 · 03/09/2011 19:14

Ah yes fortunately I've had the afternoon off although tomorrow we have swimming with DS and playing in the garden so won't be quite so chilled! Anyone else watching that red or black programme - I don't seem to get it?!?!

BB3 · 03/09/2011 19:14

How old is DS1?

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 03/09/2011 21:25

He's 2.5 and has started waking in the night recently so we're trying to make sure he gets a couple of hours running round late afternoon to tire him out.

BB3 · 03/09/2011 21:32

Ah snap my DS is same age and has just started waking for the past 6-8 weeks. He's always stirred but would normally just go back to sleep now he's wide awake. I wonder if he's sensing change and playing up to it a bit. He's had a busy day out today so hoping he will sleep well and swimming tomorrow which always knackers him out - although it also leads to a fight to keep him awake until bedtime! funny how even when they're older life is mostly about feeding and sleeping Wink

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/09/2011 11:15

Yeah I think food is the biggest worry till they're teens!

Park didn't work DS was up 3 times last night although I think he has nightmares sometimes as he was really upset and just wanted cuddles.
Me and DH now going to start painting baby room :-)

LittlePebble · 05/09/2011 07:08

Morning everyone Smile edward how did the painting of the room go? We haven't started yet waiting til maternity leave starts, which today is day nine of my count down til I finish Grin.
35+1 today

Bubalie · 05/09/2011 08:13

Hello everyone, i haven't been on MN or posted for ages, but as of today I am officially on maternity leave (yipeeeeeeeee), 35+2 today! I hope everyone is ok, I can't even start to read all of the posts I've missed, it took me ages to find this thread again as we are on number 4 now!

Have you all got things ready yet as in hospital bag, baby's room, clothes washed etc. Our nursery is now painted, furniture in and my hospital bag almost packed. Need to do baby's hospital bag once I wash all the clothes etc. By the way what are you using to wash the baby clothes, I bought Fairy non bio and have read somewhere that I shouldn't use fabric softner. Can I tumble dry the clothes as weather looks like it's going to rain again :( (sorry first timer so no clue what to do).

Anyway, just wanted to say hi to everyone :)

shelleylou · 05/09/2011 08:28

hey all another beene absent for some time. Im now 32+6 woohoo.

I have my hospital bag pakced just need to put some bras in there as i forgot them lol and the baby's bits some of which DS is going to help me chose. All his clothes are washed ive been using non bio wash and pure fabric softener. I've never heard not to use it. I've tumble dried clothes on a low heat so they dont get misshapen. If possible ill put on a clothes airer. I dont need to worry about sorting a nursery out as baby will be in with me and then DS. All feels a bit manic here anyway as DS starts school on wednesday so trying to make sure i havent forgotten anything still need to iron his name tags into his clothes.

soundofherwings · 05/09/2011 09:05

Hello everyone- I'm another one who hasn't posted for ages. Getting closer now, 36+3 today so we're all go for the homebirth from midnight on Thursday. The first baby of our NCT group was born at the weekend, scary!
Baby keeps turning back to back, so I'm doing loads of bouncing on my ball and watching tv in odd positions on the floor- hopefully she'll turn around again.

Penelope1980 · 05/09/2011 09:29

Hello soundofherwings, shelleylou and Bubalie. I have packed half my bag - all the essentials, but have made a list of the things to add at the last minute (ie clothes I want to keep wearing and a mobile charger!). I am 36+5 today based on scan dates although measuring slightly ahead at 37 weeks.

For those of you who have had babies before, how long between when you dropped and went into labour? Don't think I've dropped yet (although do have more pressure on lower stomach today) but was wondeirng.

rebelwithoutababy · 05/09/2011 10:02

Morning all! Grrrrr, Envy at your good night's sleep Cheshire: I don't think I slept at all last night - lying on my side now makes it feel like my pelvis is about to collapse, and my back has started hurting too. Every time I need to turn over I have to wake up and take ages to go back to sleep. Am soo tired. Also, GP told me on Friday it looks like I have a UTI, so need to get some antibiotics - am hoping that getting rid of the infection might help me feel a bit less tired..
mpops I found a two pack of button down t-shirt-type nighties in Mothercare for £28, which is more than I want to spend, but one is navy blue, so I thought good for hiding gunk, and one is quite nice and stripy so ok for after....

happymummytobe · 05/09/2011 10:03

Hello everyone - sorry for my silence! Have just had a few weeks with my dsd and have been too busy to write anything. Have been enjoying catching up on all your posts though.
sassy I'm so sorry to hear about your SIL. It's must be such a shock and I'm very much hoping you have positive news soon.
I'm 34+3 today and counting down the days! Once I get to 37 weeks I'm very keen on the baby arriving - just fed up with being big and pregnant now.
I'm going to put my hospital bag together this week and try to work out how my pram actually works. It's been sitting in my parent's house for months now and none of us can remember how to put it down Grin Am going to look it up on youtube - I bet there's a video there to show me how it's done!

Molybdenum · 05/09/2011 10:07

I'll join Bubalie and shelleylou as another who's been largely absent in the furious rush to finish up at work and start feeling organised. I've finished commuting to work now, but have some paperwork and accounting to finalise at home. I'm sure I'll feel much more relaxed once that's finished.

Today I am 37 weeks! Technically full term - just can't believe it! Like soundofherwings we are planning a homebirth, so it was lovely to wake up this morning and know that we are now at the approved gestation for safe homebirth.
The midwife came last week to do our home check and drop off the kit. It's a rather scary bright yellow biohazard box sitting in the corner of the room. We've been buying plastic sheeting, sorting out old towels, heaters etc. to have ready for the event. I have to say I've found our Hynobirthing classes invaluable; they've really filled me with confidence about the birth and the decisions I've made.

I've also found NCT classes useful - not so much for the knowledge, but for the friendships. We've been meeting up weekly since the classes finished and have already had some babies! Makes it all the more real for me.

Organisation-wise, I've been so busy finishing work that I haven't done much in the way of practical preparations. We have a few baby bits and pieces, but not much clothing, so I must something for the poor little thing to wear when it arrives. People who are asking about washing: I don't use any detergent or softener, as I really am concerned about some of the agents present in commercial products. We use Ecover Ecoballs, which are fine, and if something is particularly dirty I use some of this stuff: www.homescents.co.uk/acatalog/Violet_s_Magic_Laundry_Powder.html
This is something I am asked about a lot professionally, and I would never recommend using anything like Fairy/Persil etc.

As we'll be co-sleeping there is no 'nursery' prep to be done, and no equipment to buy. I have a couple of different slings on order, but also bought a Bugaboo Cameleon, which seems to be pretty practical, and we can use the carrycot for the baby to sleep in if it wants a nap without me being in bed with it.

What's everyone doing for nappies? I had a consultation with a nappy consultant, who suggested Bamboozle Stretch nappies. Has anyone used these before? I like the look of them, but they are not suitable from birth, so I'll have to start with something else (determined to never have a disposable in the house!) I've been given a set of BambinoMio nappies, but they look so complicated, will have to watch a few YouTube tutorials I think. I like the look of the Cheeky Wipes reusable wipes system, so think we'll go for that as well. Again, anyone have any experience here?

Ooh, sorry for such a mammoth post after a long absence. You can see that I've just switched my brain into baby mode after a really intense lead-up to maternity leave. It's lovely to read how everyone else is making the emotional transition from career woman to expectant mother. It's certainly an interesting journey.

soundofherwings · 05/09/2011 10:23

molybdenum we're doing reusable nappies too- got given a load of hand me downs and picked them up at NCT sales so have a million different ones, but I think we're going with mostly tots bots and some nature babies stuffables. I'm planning on using basic terries from birth, as you can fold them differently depending on size and shape of baby, but have some emergency disposables on hand just in case.
Which slings are you getting? We got a kari me second hand but the fabric is quite thick and since I'm a skinny 5 foot nothing, i feel a bit drowned in it.
