A new thread for the bus!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm totally exhausted today!
I'm counting down to poor DS's bedtime, and I've just had half hour nap in couch while he watched a cartoon, now need to find the motivation to make dinner and do dishes.
Feel like I'm wishing my life away just to get to bed Sad

CheshireDing · 31/08/2011 18:21

Welcome Tiddley :)

Rebel just too heavy to not have lost the hormonal plot I think. I feel sick, stuff (like I have had a 10 course meal) and crampy in my tum and lady bits. Just felt the need to share then Grin.

BB3 what's pineapple got to do with babies? I have been eating it for a couple of weeks have I brought on early labour, hence the "kicked in the lady bits" feeling? Am going to Google pineapples now.

Fingers crossed from everyone please because I have a scan first thing tomorrow to check the placenta has moved out of the way, so I can have a home birth (position of Porgey, with hopefully a boney bum permitting)

BB3 · 31/08/2011 19:06

fingers crossed Cheshire

Yes fresh pineapple is supposed to bring on labour - along with curry etc! Think they all work about as well as each other!!!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 31/08/2011 19:13

Well I'm gonna start the nightmare that is potty training the first week I have off then will be actively trying to induce labour, DH will be pleased he's not had much for months Wink

How is every1??

bilblio · 31/08/2011 19:40

Fingers crossed for you Cheshire my scan is on Monday.

Pineapple is one of the things that's supposed to bring on labour... as is curry... which I've just had, but with 8 more weeks to go I hope it doesn't take effect yet.

Has anyone started drinking raspberry leaf tea? I re-read my ante-natal thread from last time (just to double check I really was posting on MN when I induced myself) and remembered we were all drinking raspberry leaf tea.... or trying too. Personally I hated it, but I did start taking the tablets.
I also had an email today to say it's okay to start drinking it from this week (32 weeks) so I might have to find a Holland and Barratt this weekend and buy some tablets.

If anyone would like some actual raspberry leaf tea I'm sure I still have some in the cupboard I could post out. :o

LittlePebble · 31/08/2011 21:34

Hey all, must apologise in advance for the me me me post but had a hell of a day and need to share. Day off today, started fine, supermarket shop, rushing around etc. Rocked up for midwife appointment at one and she couldn't find the heartbeat at first, then when she did it was only 60bpm (my heartbeat was 80) and I then realised hadn't really felt baby move as had been busy all morning. Got sent to hospital, DP drove as it's quicker than waiting for an ambulance (we live an hour away from the hospital) got stuck behind every tractor and tourist known to man on tiny Devon roads, and finally got to hospital to be greeted by anaesthetist, registrar and midwife. Got rushed into room to monitor heartbeat and scan and within a minute they were able to stand down the theatre team as everything was fine.
Scariest hour of my life and still in shock now but so very relieved that LO didn't have to make an august appearance..... Trying to keep perspective and not get neurotic as doc thinks it was Doppler not baby as they couldn't find any signs of any heart problems and everything seemed perfect. Argh god it was horrible though! X

CheshireDing · 31/08/2011 21:50

Bloody hell Pebble!

I would suggest a stiff drink in normal non-pregnant circumstances, however you will just have to have a Brew.

Glad it's all okay, hope she throws the dodgy doppler away.

sassy34264 · 31/08/2011 22:05

oh no pebble how scary. bloody rubbish doppler! hope its not shot your blood pressure up.

ive had a horrible day to. nothing wrong with myself or kids. my SIL has been having tests cos of abnormal bleeding and discharge (she had 1st ds 15months ago) and MIL phoned today to say it is cervical cancer. to say everyone is devastated would be the understatment of the year. mil is a mess and dp is in complete shock. she is only 19 years old. i was no use at all, sobbing away on phone to mil. she even apologised for getting me upset- which made me feel shit. we have to wait until monday to see if it has spread or not. shes far to young to have to deal with this. my heart is breaking for her. fingers crossed it is at the very early stages.

fingers crossed for you cheshire x

i keep forgetting who is at what week. on my sept 10 thread, we use to write it on bold at the bottom of every post, so people could see who was 1st up, for example 34+6

it helps as a countdown too.

32 today

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 31/08/2011 22:22

So sorry pebble & sassy hope ur both ok.

Good idea about the countdown

33+2

CheshireDing · 01/09/2011 02:17

Sassy I don't know if this is any use but I was once told by a Gyny Dr that if you were going to be unfortunate enough to get any cancer that cervical would be the one to get (so to speak). She said it's because it's one of the best/easiest to treat if caught early enough.

My DH is a Nurse and he has said the same thing in the past too in that the success rate of treatment working for cervical is one of the highest.

I have had dodgy cells on and off for years and have to have annual check-ups and the Dr said that because it is usually quite slow growing I could go without having a smear for the time I was pregnant (you can have them but my choice not too) and she was not worried about us waiting until the baby is born before I had a check-up.

I guess your SIL has been having regularly check-ups and so they must have caught it early. Of course its still devastating but my understanding is the success rate is very very good.

Thinking of you and her x

Penelope1980 · 01/09/2011 04:30

Wow sassy and pebble, sounds awful - hope you are both ok!

Tidley - welcome! I am actually hoping for a Sept baby myself as am 36 + 1, but am sticking with the Oct bus as this was the one I joined in Jan and feel somewhat attached!

BB3 · 01/09/2011 04:35

Wow ladies, what a day!!

pebble thank goodness everything is ok. Must have been very, very scary for you (Angry at dodgy Doppler) but the hospital team sound like they were really on the ball and prepared for ever scenario. Make sure you get lots of rest and look after yourself and LO. Will they monitor you more closely for a bit just to be on the safe side?

sassy blimey what a run of it you and your poor family have had. I can't believe she has to deal with this at 19 but it sounds like she has lots of love and support to get her through the next few months.

I whole heartedly agree with the others, your SIL has hopefully caught it early with the check ups and I'm crossing every possible element of my body that it hasn't spread and can be treated quickly. I too believe I have heard that it has one of the best success rates (not that this will take away the fear!) so again fingers crossed they can get treating and get it cleared asap.

Don't feel bad about being upset, goodness knows how you must be feeling - for yourself and for DP and his family. Can he get some compassionate leave to be at home for a bit?

I don't know what else to say other than make sure you take care of yourself and LO as all this stress must be very hard for you and I think you are doing brilliantly. Xxx

BB3 · 01/09/2011 04:37

Oh sorry forgot to post dates!

34+2 and officially over my last milestone (getting these babies into September).

sassy34264 · 01/09/2011 05:18

woke up for a toilet run and cant get back to sleep! argh.

unfortunately SIL has never had a checkup, never mind a regular check up. she is only 19yrs and the policy is to only start giving smears when girls are 25. there is alot of controversy about it.

still, it might have been caught early.

bb3 my milestone(s) was 28 weeks. as i had read that the chances of survival are 80-90% at this many weeks compared with 0% at 22 weeks. (i spent the whole pregnancy terrified that something would go wrong) and then to keep them out of scbu. isobel did spend 12 hrs in there though, but not too bad.
do you have a clone? Grin you seem to post at all hours........do you not sleep?!

32+1

sassy34264 · 01/09/2011 05:31

forgot to say- dp is unsure about what to do. he is currently snowed under at work. he works and lives in Bath, but hes on a job in Portsmouth this week and then he is going to a base in Scotland for the next 2 weeks. he is unsure whether they will give him the time off just to affectively 'sit' with her. iyswim. i think he is going to book the monday off though, as he doesnt want to be halfway to Scotland if the news comes back that it has spread.
then i think hes going to take it from there. their other brother, whose also in the navy, ( but not as high up, so can get time off more easily)is with her at the moment and so is her ds's dad- they are on-off but currently on.

BB3 · 01/09/2011 05:57

I wish I had a clone they could work all day and I could sleep!!! No I'm up with DS about 3.30 most nights and then find it hard to sleep (even though he often goes back to sleep) and then we are up and downstairs by 5.30. Luckily I'm a morning person although you'll rarely find me on mn late evenings I'm normally in bed and asleep by 9! Smile Today I was wide awake before he even stirred so know I will be knackered later and I work at the computer all day so distract myself with mn.

Hopefully it's still early enough as she went with the bleeding and discharge.

Where are you based? We are in Salisbury so near to bath and Portsmouth but for some reason I thought you were further away?

Makes sense to be home on the Monday - maybe he could speak to his bosses and explain the situation and then take it by ear depending on the results? In a way I'm sure your SIL doesn't want people just sat around waiting with her, I was thinking more for the two of you to be together and support each other as with his nan and now this, it's been a tough few weeks for you both. X

BB3 · 01/09/2011 06:05

sassy how long were you in hospital with the twins for altogether? I hate hospitals and am trying to prepare myself. With DS he was born at 4pm I was on postnatal at 7.45 and out the next morning at 10 and that was too long (i would have gone that evening but paeds had left so couldn't discharge DS) and DH stayed the whole time. This hospital is really strict on visiting so I'll be alone a lot which I'm not looking forward too!

sassy34264 · 01/09/2011 06:31

bb3 we are both wiganers! Grin but we recently moved to Chorley in Lancashire. he is based in Bath for next 18months, but for the last 10yrs he has been based in Portsmouth.

i went into hospital on the fri morning and i was discharged on the tues afternoon. i think they would have let me go earlier as they moved me twice to use the room i was in for labour (obviously i was on post natal ward, but there were no beds left on labour ward) but i had endless trouble with twins blood sugar levels- hence, isobel needing scbu. they wouldnt entertain us going until they were sufficiently up. their suggestion was formula! and though i relented a few times, i refused to abandon breast feeding. it was a case of being too prem to suck effectively. in the end i had to hand express after every feed and then the midwives would cup feed them to top them up. sugar levels should be 2.6 and over and isobel dropped to 1 on 2nd day so was tube fed on scbu. i should say that it was the midwives who were firmly on my side with regards to continuing bfing, it was the docs who were pushing for formula. even after i got them both over 2.6 they wanted to formula feed to get it higher. midwife ended up arguing with them, saying its either 2.6 or it isnt, you cant move the goalposts once shes achieved what you've asked for.

LittlePebble · 01/09/2011 06:58

Morning. Sassy I'm so sorry about your SIL, I'll be keeping everything crossed for her. Gosh what a time we are all having!
I agree with others though my best friend has had similar problems and it's always been caught and dealt with before it's spread, so hopefully this will be the case for your SIL and it can be dealt with asap.
bb3 I do not know how you do it with your DS and twins on the way, and you still remember everyone on here and are so supportive, bless you. You are right the team yesterday at the hospital were amazing it was like walking into the hospital and getting a big hug, they could not have moved faster or been more prepared so DP and I now feel reassured we picked the right hospital.
Didn't get a lot of sleep last night spent most of it checking tiny was moving around and reliving drive to hospital! Packing my bag this morning and determined not to allow this scare to stop me enjoying my pg from now on.
Very pleased to post 34+4today Grin

BB3 · 01/09/2011 07:22

Ah I thought you were up that way sassy we have a house in Portsmouth (well closer to southsea beach really) and lived their for 4 years as it's a good commute to London but am glad to be living out of a large city again especially with these twins on the way. No idea how we'd get the prams in and out of our old terraced war house!

They have said a minimum of three days if both babies are feeding well and blood sugars are stable but think I will plan for longer and then not be too disappointed. They have already said that the drs will recommend topping up with formula to help the blood sugars which I have agreed to in principle as long as topping up with bf is tried first. Guess we will have to see how it goes - lots will depend on when they come I suppose!

pebble think lack of sleep after something like that is completely normal - hopefully tiny was keeping busy wiggling. I'm hoping you are off work for the rest of the week!!

Glad the hospital were so good it makes all the difference (have to say I'm not massively impressed with ours ATM but am hoping they redeem themselves once baby is actually here - although have not heard great stories there either). Unfortunately our nearest hospital outside if the city (which is currently a 10 min drive from the village) is about an hour away so not practical with the babies. Good call on getting ready but hopefully tiny will say put for a couple more weeks xx

So I think a day resting with tea and cake is in order for everyone on the thread today!

Penelope1980 · 01/09/2011 07:45

Good to know about how long you all stayed in hosp last time - for some reason that's one aspect of birth I'm getting all obsessed about, rather than the real, big stuff like labour Smile I think it's because I had appendicitis at 13 and terrible memories about what the stay in hosp was like, and my hosp doesn't have single rooms.

bb3 I agree with your statement about cloning yourself! Friday is to be my last day of work though as I have been instructed to go off due to blood pressure. I am looking forward to it, although it was earlier than I'd planned so am still getting used to the idea.

I will join you with the tea and cake!

sassy34264 · 01/09/2011 08:01

ha. its the way i spayk! (speak) bb3 gives me away. i type that fast and think faster, that i dont always look at what ive put. for example, putting whose on the last post instead of who's. i do have a degree and i do know the rules and can write flipping good essays Grin but.......... i write as i spayk if its not a formal situation! Wink

take it easy today pepple

my mum has took the day off today to help with the house, we are on the last push, painting, tidying and emptying the last of the storage. and im also hoping to fit docs in (jacob's skin is terrible) and hairdressers.

sassy34264 · 01/09/2011 08:05

pepple?! Confused Hmm

pebble

only been up 10mins and the little buggers have managed to pull all the wetwipes out the box and get the lid off the sudocreme, so i was a little distracted!!!

BB3 · 01/09/2011 08:22

Heehee sass my mn posts are awful for spelling because of bloody predictive text on my phone and I'm normally trying to post before DS realises and comes and throws the phone out my hand or closes the computer!! (he hates them both as they distract mummy from him - such a demanding child!!!)

He is currently in the window jumping down onto the sofa and climbing back again. My living room is utter chaos!

Penelope we can have a mini post work party on mn on Friday evening. I'm a bit of a workaholic so will find it strange not being physically attached to my phone and computer but I'm definitely ready for some time off now. Grin

I just don't associate hospitals with good things (apart from ds' birth) as it's always meant saying goodbye to people or being close to it so they just give me the heebie geebies!!!! I like to get in and out as fast as possible even if I'm only a visitor!

BB3 · 01/09/2011 08:24

Good luck with the house sass don't do too much though! Today I will mostly be building drawers for the nursery and trying to put pallpaper on the draw front bits so it all ties together, hanging the curtains and making up the cot - oh yeah and working of course!!!
