Here we are girls. I think we are all a bit shell-shocked at the moment, aren't we?

Thinking of you DHW and wishing life wasn't so cruel sometimes.

Recovery from c-section would scare me too, it's bad enough recovering from normal birth - well it is for me anyway, I never seem to be able to spring back, I was totally wiped out for a good fortnight both times. But at the same time, there is a small part of me which quite likes the idea of an elective c-section, does that sound weird?? I think it's because the whole birth thing got a bit panicky last time when we ran out of G&A and I'm dreading that happening again. And worrying about whether someone will be here on time to look after the kids. Atleast there's some certainty about elective c-sections, I guess.

We popped into B&Q to buy some plastic sheeting at the weekend and they told us they've stopped selling it! Eh? It's a DIY shop! I bought some from eBay instead.

Totallyinlove, I didn't get on very well with bf my first, but bf my second for 18 months - mainly because it just all fell into place. So you never know, it might just come easily this time.

I'm pretty small still too, although I feel like I've popped out a bit just recently. Ignore all stupid irrelevant comments - I think most of the time people speak without thinking.

im just going to go to dunelm to get a cheap shower curtain! much cheaper!

Lizzylou · 18/01/2006 11:56

If I had a penny for the amount of times I've heard "Are you sure there's only one in there?"!!!

The thought of a caesarian does worry me (not least because of having to rely on family after the birth and trying not to kill my MIL!) but would prefer a planned one rather than an emergency if I can. If the other probs sort themselves out then they will induce me early as the baby is large, so am hoping for normal delivery.
Would love a homebirth but DH would prob combust if I even mentioned it and not sure the MW's car could carry the amount of G&A I had last time! LOved the stuff!

laundrylover · 18/01/2006 12:04

My cleaners are here!! It has been my dream to have cleaners since I was one myself as a student and my spd has given me the perfect excuse!! Feel a bit weird being in the house though so will try to be out next time.
Munz - my depression is much better but am going to see doc again today to keep an eye on it. Am braving aqua natal this afternoon too. Went loads last time but not felt up to it this time.
T in Love - I reckon you should try bfing again but don't feel too pressured. You know though that they do feed constantly for weeks eh??? Even a bit of colostrum does them good I reckon. I did get on well in the end but I need to learn to RELAX when feeding - could not express because of this problem. Take your time and use MN for support and reassurance if you decide to go ahead...

Marne · 18/01/2006 12:06

RP, i kind of like the idea of a c-section, after having dd i could'nt walk for weeks as i had alot of stitches (i am a bit of a wimp), some people seem to recover quikly from c-sections, my cousin was walking around the day after her c-section and went home 2 days latter.

Is anybody else having problems sleeping? i was up all night last night, just could'nt sleep and this morning i'm having bad braxton hicks again, spent most of the morning led in the bath.

Totalyinlove, i could,nt breast feed last time, did'nt even manage a day, i would like to breast feed but i dont think i will be able too.

laundrylover · 18/01/2006 12:13

Marne - it's interesting about bfing as usually you won't have any milk for a couple of days and they still get by those babies! What made me carry on was having looked after tiny lambs in the past who'd had nothing for two days and survived in a field!! May sound strange but it makes sense!
It is also so dependant on support from midwives etc., some of whom may have never done it themselves!
Having done some combined feeding I'm a big bf fan for ease and convenience once it gets established. Hope to do no bottles this time but we'll see how it goes...

Lizzylou · 18/01/2006 12:18

Marne, I haven't slept properly for about 4 months! What with indigestion/loo breaks/ever kicking baby and snoring DH I am exhausted!!!

Marne · 18/01/2006 12:23

I had to go to the loo 11 times in the night, i make my snoaring dh sleep down stairs ( i can still hear him) LOL

RosiePosie · 18/01/2006 12:25

DH and I have given up, and for everyone's benefit, I have the double bed to myself whilst dh is on the futon in the living room. I was disturbing him, more than the other way around, what with the regular weewee trips and groaning every time I have to turn over ( that's the worst bit about SPD, turning over in bed is agony! )

OP posts:
laundrylover · 18/01/2006 12:26

11 times! That must a record!
At least with all this sleep deprivation we'll be well prepared for the year ahead eh??

totallyinlove · 18/01/2006 12:45

11 times? blimey!! Sleep? whats that then? Will be glad when baby is out then even though I will have to get up loads at least when I DO sleep I will be able to get comfortable! My husband is really tall and pretty broad so its a battle for space in the bed as it is without my massive nest of pillows to contend with!! hehe.

Lizzylou · 18/01/2006 13:00

Marne...11 times is pretty impressive!
I have been banishing my DH to the futon in the spare room, I tried it but I couldn't get up off it!
I honestly remember feeling with DS that I got MORE sleep with a newborn than when I'd been pregnant!

Marne · 18/01/2006 16:30

OK, now i know why i was up 11 times in the night,
decided to go to the doctors this aftanoon as i have had stomach pains all day, they found blood in my wee so i have got some kind of infection, the doctor has sent my sample off for more tests to see if i need antibiotics, he also thinks i might be anemic so im feeling a bit sh*t at the mo.

Lizzylou · 18/01/2006 16:37

Oh Marne, poor you, hope alls OK.
No wonder you had such a bad night's sleep x

totallyinlove · 18/01/2006 16:54

Oh Marne. Poor you. I am prone to kidney infections and have had kidney stones a number of times. Its horrible. Have they sorted out some antibiotics for you anyway?

Marne · 18/01/2006 17:50

They wont give me anything for it until test results come back which might not be till monday but if the pains get worse then i have to go back tomorow, doctor said he does'nt want to give me antibiotics unless he realy has to.

Cadmum · 18/01/2006 18:00

Hello all!

Just back from an ante-natal check with the consultant in Canada. All was well. Baby's weight is estimated to be 4 lbs 9 oz so right on the 50th centile. I am happy with that as I don't fancy a 10 pounder.

Now I REALLY NEED to find an ObGyn or a midwive here, don't I? Why oh why do I keep putting the whole thing of?
I came back to New York on a very turbulent flight with bags full of newborn clothes and bedding for our entire family. Looking forward to having our own flat as of February 1 and getting the kids settled in school.

hope you are all well. Marne take very good care of yourself UTIs are NO fun whatsoever.

Marne · 18/01/2006 19:56

Alot of you have been looking at car seats, have you seen the Aprica, no good at doing links but its here, www.aprica-eu.com (a bit expencive though)

Frizbetheexpansionset · 18/01/2006 22:48

TinL Give the old BF a go, and if it doesn't work, at least you can say you tried!! I'm gona have a bash, although with dd in tow, not sure how well it'll go, have a friend whose just tried it for 6 weeks with her 2nd, but has a heavy feeder, so is bailing out for bottles, can't say as I blame her, as I'm not relishing the thought of being stuck to the sofa all evening for the next 6mths, which is what happened with dd.....

LLover, cleaners, wonderful good on you!
Had a mate ring up yest who offered to come over and help out once a week for a few weeks after the birth, so I bit her hand off!! she also offered to iron, I told her she could start now needless to say she declined!

Marne, was going to say ouch re the BH's, but looks like your already getting to the bottom of things, hope its easily treatable hon {{{Hugs}}}

Also Marne n RP think we're heading the same way with the dh's mine is looking to bail downhere right now, as dd is poorly......looks like another bad night for me....sob......boooo at ss for bringing the plague with him last weekend......have struggled to do anything all day, as dd has just wanted to be attached to me....even sat on my knee having a cuddle, asking for more cuddles....awwww.......

Munz n Rom where are you today?

munz · 19/01/2006 09:32

i'm here, off to m/w today will catch up after still doing the bloody VAT so rather than post odd comments i'll catch up tonight! hope everyone's well thou

marne, hope u get sorted out with ur infection.

newgirl · 19/01/2006 14:36

Hello!

Sorry not to have been around for a while - I finished work last week and have been whizzing around getting things sorted! Now have new chest of drawers, mattress and new pair of boots for me!!

Glad to hear everyone is well on the whole. Like lizzylou I am possibly placenta previa at the mo so am having another scan on 14 feb and then maybe c-section at end of feb. I must admit I am not worried about recovering after the op - no fun I admit but then neither is the thought of pushing out a 10lb plus baby, which mine was last time - yikes. I am seriously in the 'as long as we are both fine' camp this time.

I did an antenatal refresher class this week and it was great - we talked about siblings and how second time would be quicker etc and went over birth again in more detail. The mums to be were lovely too so it was well worth doing. We have a partner session on sat and we chose what we wanted the teacher to talk about so its pain relief, doing what we ask (!), postnatal hormones/depression and supporting us in breastfeeding, so we shall see if that helps!

hi til - my dh was similar last time and when I found bf hard he kept getting the bottles out and saying 'just feed the baby' which was not much help to be honest and made me really cross with him as I had only just started trying!! We settled into a pattern of mainly bfeeding and a bottle at night and that suited us all but its not easy when they are hovering trying to get involved!! If he tries it again I will say 'go and cook the dinner if you are at a loose end'!! Not sure if that will work or not!

we find out what schools my dd will go to today - ohmygod - I can't believe it has come round so quickly! one minute you are choosing baby grows and next they are off to school aghhhhh

bye for now!

munz · 19/01/2006 15:16

ok back now ok on the hole, but have keetones in my water so off to look it up as I only know of keetones in connection with diabetes. also have protein, m/w say's i'm not eating/drinking enough any of u girls had keetones?

UniSarah · 19/01/2006 16:09

Hi New girl
That first week of not working flys by doesn't it, theres so much to DO! I'm now approching the end of week 2 and still have a long jobs list.

I've taken the plunge and gone along to a mums and babies drop in group at our local surestart centre, brilliant. Its been really nice to meet some other mums and their babies. I was worried that being at the surestart centre I'd be older and more middle class than the others but I'm not, I'm probadly somewhere in the middle.
Next monday I'm going along to the centre for a veggie box start up meeting, so I think this might be the start of a new involvement with my local community.
UniSarah

Frizbetheexpansionset · 19/01/2006 18:54

Aw UniSarah, that's great! its amazing how more involved you get with local community, once you have kids! I hardly saw the place until I had dd, now I seem to know loads of people (plus the fact that you can't move in my small town, without being stopped by a thousand and one people cooing of the small person in your pram/buggy!)

Newgirl, sorry about the poss c-sect, but like you say easier to prepare if you know whats coming! and at least you have a definate date!
Schools, argh! have to think about nursery places next, which is bad enough.....

Munz, keytones, nope, soz, not heard of those, have you looked it up on bounty or somewhere like that? (another thread on here?)

Hope everyone else is ok???
Bump and I have been aquanataling today, only reckon I'll make another two sessions, maybe three, as they're starting to alternate sessions between another pool and my local one (booooo) as midwife shortage....and then they close for half term.....which is two weeks later here than it is in ss's county (?!) so poor old ss will be down with us, and I shall be fending the usual, why's he not in school questions off everyone, pah!

munz · 19/01/2006 20:05

ok found out about these ketones, basically i'm not eating enough and esp drinking enough which I think is what's caused the protein in the water as well, so I need to eat more carbs and have tonnes more water - thankfully it's only traces but it's enough for me to worry and do something about it. DH and mum have already both been on about my eating habits. apparently ketones are the biproduct of protein being burnt in your system instead of carbs (ie carbs run out so ur body starts with teh protein - common with diets like atkins) - can be v bad for ur body, so as of today it's 5 meals a day for me lots of fruit and veg, fish meat and pots, no more crappy junk! (also lots of brown bread etc) hopefully it will rectify it's self next week when I see my consultant, i'll ask her to check everything over again just to make sure, it's one thing if my body has crap - ie the ketones but apparently it can cause low IQ etc for the baby if severe which I don't want, so will work really hard to do things better. On the plus side thou, i'm now 33+5 and measuring 34cm - so bang on target! - wohoo! lol, althou his head's in the pelvis - 1/5 in apparently - not sure how much that is? but m/w said unfortunatly don't mean he'll come early! lol. anyhow she wasn't too concerned but I am! lol - typical worrier! lol.

NG - 10lber god, fingers crossed all goes well for u. glad u've finished work - 16 more days for me! lol.

friz - wanna send ur mate to my hosue! lol - I ment to do the ironing whilst DH was away - oh well! lol - off to the shops I go! lol.

cads - glad u picked everything up in canada u needed - fingers crossed u get the LO's inot a school and get medical care sorted out - good news baby's not looking too big either.

marne - can u chase the results up quicker? fingers crossed they do give you something - I assume that explains all the BH's etc you've been having.

with the sleepin thing - lol, DH has spent the odd night in the spare room, but as he's away for 3 weeks i've had the bed all to my self and we've both slept brilliantly! lol. althou saying that I seem to be ok till about 4.30 am ish then toss/turn till the alarm goes off, either that or the baby decided I need to pee at 5am on the dot. next night thou is normally a good one.

LL - good to hear you're doing well. i'm still having the odd day but on the whole a lot better.

TIL - with the BF, i'm gonna give it a go, mum keeps tellin me that as lng as I try it doesn't matter if I cna't manage it it's as long as u try u're best, i'm hoping to feed for at least 6 months - althou her's managed to dry up with DB after about 4 months so we shall ahve to see, fingers crossed thou all will go well. We've planned to express after a month or so so DH can get more involved with feeds etc esp if he's working all day we'vve agreed for him to do the bath/bed routien so he has time with the LO and I have 5 mins peace! lol.

anyhow good to see on the hole everyone's coming along nicely, the time really does seem to be flying past! lol.

ooh also spoke to my m/w today in general she say's down here they don't like doin inductions, so fingers crossed I go into labour naturally.
