Had to start a new thread, as our old one got too big to post anymore.
yay figgy - your scan sounds great! A wee boy - now you only have to think about boy names. Woohoo.

Yeah think that's what I was feeling! It's like flutters or something.
I THINK I had a kick last night!

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 10:41

I love how people describe it as a butterfly.. but i describe it as a dead fish flopping around on the bank of a river, desperately trying to get back in to the water lol

Ooo a kick :o excellent!! Does it feel strong? I can't wait!

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 10:53

Ps totally disgusting i know... but have any of you started to get icky nipples? I'm sure one of them is getting a bit gooey Confused

Awomancalledhorse · 09/08/2011 10:54

kri5ty, I can report that as well as sexy jelly ass my nipples have been leaking ick for a month, MW said it's normal to start 'this early'.
Try to form an orderly queue to get me to ladies & gents Wink

mopsytop · 09/08/2011 10:54

It was just kind of unexpected! Like a painless jab. Woke me up as I was just dozing off. My nipples have gone sort of bumpy and also like inverted in the middle like a little hole in the mornings, then back to normal. Not a hole, like a little indent. NOT loving the changing boobs at ALL!

Hello,

Can I join in, I have been on the other December thread a little, but would be good to chat to some other first timers.

EDD is 2nd December - so I am almost 24 weeks, there is an awful lot of movement now. Baby definitely has a bit of a complaint if I restict his space too much!! Oh and baby is a boy!!

Kri5ty quite simple yes on the nipple front. I have also had to go bra shopping again, mine are now at a ridiculous size, not looking forward to when the milk properly comes in!!

Have any of the rest of you got a low lying placenta? I have to go back at 34 weeks for another scan to check it has sorted itself out, so trying not to be too concerned.

I have been feeling movements from quite early on, they just get stronger and stronger, DH has been able to feel baby kick a couple of times now but only over the last week. There seems to be more and more of a routine as to when he kicks me, particularly when my bladder is full, which I am no enjoying!!

Has everyone had their 20 week scan?

mopsytop · 09/08/2011 11:04

hi londongirly the nipple thing ain't pretty is it? I feel so unattractive at the moment I have to say. Except for my lovely glossy hair! Boobs keep getting bigger, have a big stripe under them from my bra - def need to buy more - I long for my old lovely B cups. My placenta is at the front but not low lying. I am sure it will be fine - don't worry too much if you can. I spend most of my time worrying about stuff though. hard not to.

Is there anything we can do for our gooey nipples??

Best stock up on the breast pads for when the milk comes in lol

LondonGirly · 09/08/2011 11:28

I think it is just another one of those lovely things we have to put up with during pregnancy :)

Definitely going to need breast pads - friends who have had children keep saying about cabbage leaves as well!!

Have any of you started reading any books about post birth? I've read the Gina Ford book and found one called Baby's first skills which goes through a baby's development and what you can do with them at different stages.

mopsytop · 09/08/2011 11:30

I am kind of reluctant to read any books in case then it doesn't work out how the books say and I feel inadequate. Particularly books like Gina Ford... I found the pregnancy books a bit hectoring and also worry-making (making me worry about stuff I wouldn't even have thought of) and stopped reading them around week 12 and feel SO much more relaxed since I stopped. I might buy the Mumsnet one though 'cos the pregnancy book is really good and not bossy like the other ones!

OP posts:
mopsytop · 09/08/2011 11:31

p.s. what did you think of the Gina Ford?

OP posts:
kri5ty · 09/08/2011 11:33

I haven'r read any books on pregnancy... but i have read a book called the sensational baby sleep plan, which i have 3 friends who swear by it, all their Los slept throught he night from 6-8 weeks

LondonGirly · 09/08/2011 11:45

I liked the Gina Ford book, a lot of it was common sense that I just hadn't thought of, like using the nusery before the baby sleeps in there overnight so it isn't a big shock for them when they start sleeping in there.

I know what you mean with the pregnancy books. I have what to expect when you are expecting and now just have the occasional look when I want to check something which is happening is normal.

Second trimester is so much more relaxed that the first!

Have you signed up for ante-natal classes yet? I've signed up for NCT ones, I have to admit a lot of that is to do with the social side of getting to know other parents in the area!

mopsytop · 09/08/2011 11:50

I have signed up for the NHS ones. Bit wary of the NCT ones because of breastfeeding and natural birth hectoring (I do not like being preached at). I totally think that breastfeeding is best if you CAN and if you want to, but formula feeding does not mean you are a bad mum and I don't want to go somewhere with that attitude. I wasn't breastfed and am totally fine. Am definitely going to try breastfeeding and hopefully it will all go well and be fine for me, but I don't want a guilt trip if it doesn't. Similarly, if I can have a labour and birth with only gas and air would be amazing but if I can't cope with the pain and need an epidural that's fine too and doesn't mean anything or say anything about me except I am not a martyr! Maybe I am being totally unfair to NCT though ... they can't all be like that!

OP posts:
kri5ty · 09/08/2011 11:50

i am doing NCT too... however its just over 2 days, so i;m not sure how much we will bond with other parents!

Although i intend to go to the NCT bumps and babies group, so hopefully will meet people that way!

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 11:52

Ps i am not goin to the breadt feeding session with NCT mopsy.. i have been told it will be very hard for me to do it for medical reasons, i will give it a go, and i knw the techniques, so i too dont want to be prached at

mopsytop · 09/08/2011 11:55

It's the inference that you somehow failed if you can't that I hate. Everyone is different. Breastfeeding is one of those things that statistically, across a population, is better but individually doesn't really matter. WAY more important is the baby is not hungry, is warm, is loved. I think breastfeeding should certainly be encouraged but not shoved down our throats in the way it is by the breastfeeding mafia! Mothers already have enough stress (and, I suspect, constant guilt) to cope with without other people's opinions adding to it! I intend to do what is best for ME and MY baby, but I know if I am being preached at I will find it harder to have confidence in myself so I think it's safer just for me to avoid!

OP posts:
kri5ty · 09/08/2011 12:11

Yes i totally agree, in an ideal world we would all breastfeed, but i know lots of friends who have had midwives shout etc at them in hospital as they have said they want to bottle feed... And with the new guidelines now on making up formula, i think they should talk about this too, as people still think its the "old" way!

Sorelip · 09/08/2011 12:19

I'm hoping I can breastfeed, but I had my boobs done about 5 years ago, so I don't know if I'll be able to - will have to wait and see!

I'm getting lots of movement now. The little sod seems to love rock music.

Anyone else read much about the actual birth yet? I thought that active birth sounded like nonsense, until I actually bothered to find out what it is...yep, I'll have one of those please :o

Look up Perineal Massage on Youtube, and see if you can find the video with woman talking about it, with a dummy bottom half, and her demonstrating how to do the massage. The video is a couple of minutes long. Tell me, am I wrong in thinking, erm bits in general really aren't that loose?!

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 12:24

sorelip i had mine done about 3 years ago, and theyt old me i am fine to breastfeed, i think its only if you have your nipple removed that it causes problems..

I read about Perineal Massage in a magazine... can't really imaginging myself doing it though... but i guess if it helps stop me trearing then im all for it!

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 12:26

I haven;t thought about the birth, as for medcial reasons i have to have an epidural as soon as i go to hopsital... so my birth (i guess) will be long and boring, with hours and hours spent in bed on a drip and with a wee wee bag... bad news as i would like it have tried for a poop before labour lol... but no chance of that being bed bound!!

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 12:50

on a less scary note i am LOVING strangers asking me how far gone i am now :) becasue it means i look pregnany and not just fat tee hee

And yayyyyy we are doing his room now! I am waiting for lots of things from ebay :) fake vines, swingig monkeys, inflatable parrots the lot lol

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 12:51

And again apoligies for my shocking typing/spelling!

figgygal · 09/08/2011 13:14

am i the only one who has had no massive boost in boob size? Was looking forward to getting away from my little A/B bras with massive mammaroonys but no it seems i am condemned to flatness even with weight gain and a baby!! No Fair!!

I considered NCT too but decided against them for the same reason as mopsy to be honest, though i get 4 on the local NHS, a trip round the ward and a session on epidurals/tens i am definitely going to go to.

kri5ty · 09/08/2011 13:21

my boob shave stayed exactly the same... but not sure if thats because i had a boob job and they wont stretch any more?? I went up to a D cup, and at the time they had to put smaller ones in that i was ment to have, as my skin wouldnt stretch enough (TMI?!) But i guess there isnt enough skin for mine to get any bigger lol
