Had to start a new thread, as our old one got too big to post anymore.
yay figgy - your scan sounds great! A wee boy - now you only have to think about boy names. Woohoo.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
figgygal · 01/10/2011 21:06

My lord I have eaten nothing of nutritional value today thank god for vitamins. Enjoyed my champagne afternoon tea then had a couple of mocktails while the girls continued the drinkies. Home now for some toast and x factor catch up

NorthernChinchilla · 01/10/2011 21:31

Heh! We've not done too badly but I indulged DP in a Nando's- proper mall rat food. Champagne afternoon tea sounds soooooo civilised though figgy sod the nutritional value...but thanks for reminding me, I'd not taken my vitamin tablet today and have just necked it.

Well, we're just about sorted now- had a final push and got:

  • the mattresses for both moses basket and cot bed (getting both items second hand from my Dad but obv. need the new mattresses),
  • ordered the chest of drawers for his bedroom
  • got travel system including car seat
  • baby rocker and monitors.

And so (fingers crossed) done! The above are the only things we've actually purchased, bar some odds and sods like a changing mat, and as I've spent weeks list making, reviewing on-line and then doing our initial rekkies, we were able to sweep it all up today. We could have covered it ourselves, but happily and gratefully have accepted parental donations, both of items and financially.

So can spend the last ten weeks slowly washing and organising, and not having to run around...(or have I just cursed myself there Confused?!)

Awomancalledhorse · 01/10/2011 23:17

Glad it was lovely Northen, good to know I'm not the only one who gets an Aloo Sagg for the morning after Blush
Pat on the back for being ready (although you are making the rest of us look bad)!

figgy, sounds lovely! I'm planning my dream day of food (pate, blue steak, prosecco & all that banned stuff) for after birth date

Talking of post-birth; remember periods? That monthly time of hell? I'd completely forgotten about them (yes, honestly) until I mentioned tampons the other day!
How weird is it going to be going through that stuff again after almost a year out?!

OiMissus · 02/10/2011 09:54

Periods - ugh! Could happily never have one again! I was looking for maternity pads in tesco yesterday, and started in the period section. Almost felt smug about not having periods, then I remembered I was looking for maternity pads. Sad Was the discussion on the other thread about days or weeks of post birth mess? There was even a "maternity bed mat" in tescos. Please no!!! Nooooooo!

NorthernChinchilla · 02/10/2011 11:06

Oh my God, I never thought I'd encounter someone else who though spicy potato, spinach, sauce and tonnes of garlic was appropriate for breakfast Smile!

Funnily enough I saw the boxes of tampons under the sink the other day, and my OP initiated a discussion about my starting back on contraception asap after birth (what could be going through his mind...?) I'd gladly never have them again, and the injection worked for me on that front- no periods for years, but I did have weight gain and don't think it did anything for libido...so I'll go back on the pill. I really object to the cost of tampons, etc as well, although wasn't the tax on them reduced recently- they had been classed as 'luxuries' and taxed at 17.5%!!!

I think we can add the 'weeks of bleeding post birth' to the long, long list of things that no-one mentioned before we got pregnant....bastards.

figgygal · 02/10/2011 11:14

I think i will get back on the pill as soon as i can too dont want any accidents, cant believe the amount of threads in pregnancy with people pg again after a few months DON'T want that happening!!

I am trying to do some chartership stuff today but its just so hot and sunny i cant concentrate or hardly see the screen. I am going to get head down until 2 then might get out in my silly purple convertible and go for a wander down to mothercare and boots (for maternity pads).

jomouse · 02/10/2011 15:20

Anyone else swelling in this glorious weather? I have sausage fingers!

figgygal · 02/10/2011 16:48

It's horrible!!!!!

OiMissus · 02/10/2011 17:09

It's raining in the north west today, come visit and cool down. I'll put the kettle on. :)

kri5ty · 02/10/2011 17:23

Never thought I'd be glad of the rain, I don't feel like a stable today :o

I had a 4D scan yesterday, impulse buy! But It was amazing, nugget was asleep, and had his hands and arms over his mouth... all snuggled up like you would in a duvet!at one point in the dvd he turns to the side slightly and snuggled into my side!

He is in the head down position ... hope he stays that way!

FairyBayleaf · 03/10/2011 10:30

Hey everyone!
Haven't been on in ages as I've had quite an eventful few days - let's just say that i'm no longer pregnant but rather proud mum to Albert Elwyn Williamson born by emergency ceasearean on Thursday 29th sept. 11 weeks early, 2lb 14oz, 37cm.

He's in the neonatal unit, probably for 7 more weeks, but doing well. Breathing unaided and taking 1ml milk every hour. I've been able to have a couple of cuddles, although focus is on letting him sleep and grow.

I'm back at home and just waiting for the community midwife to come for her visit so that I can go to see him. Wish she'd get a wriggle on!!!

Awomancalledhorse · 03/10/2011 11:10

Grin Congratulations Fairy!
Very glad to hear Albert is doing so well (love the name btw)!!

Kir5ty & Oi, can we swap places? We still 'glorious' sunshine down south. Envy

We're hoping to have another baby asap (so I can get my child rearing out the way in one bulk), so fingers crossed for a lovely, unripped, non-bleeding or piles infested nether region!

OiMissus · 03/10/2011 11:29

Huge congrats Fairy!! I guess it must have been quite scary with him coming so early, so it's lovely to hear that he is doing well. Such a shame that cuddle time is limited, but you'll be able to make up for that soon.
I don't know you at all, but am welling up with happiness and pride and silly mum-to-be feelings. So happy for you! - I guess it just makes it all so real. Congratulations!
I also love the name Albert. :) My granddad is Herbert, but he is known as Bert, so we've been thinking of "Bert / Bertie" variations. Albert is the favourite, and it reminds me of the poem Albert and the Lion, that we heard all the time as kids. :)
Congratulations!

lalababy · 03/10/2011 12:33

Hi all... I am back from Moscow and straight into the great heat!!! Moscow was really good...felt very safe not at all dodgy like I had imagine, no one forced voldka on me, really beautiful city, no fake fur or furry hat... wasn't cold enought for that... but I must say it is great to be home!!!

Re episiotomy or tiny tears... I had sex on the weekend after a week of being away and I was SORE!!! My only thought was I better start doing the perineal massage every day now or else no idea how the baby will come out.

Fairy Congrats... you are mum!!!

Figgy Can I recommend that whether or not you practice it you buy a book on hypno-birthing and watch some of the youtube videos. I was scared out of my mind re labour and reading/watching this stuff has made me feel significantly better. Watching some of the videos is amazing... it is like the baby just slides out!!!

kristy sounds amazing... I am booking a 4D scan too!

figgygal · 03/10/2011 13:16

Blimey Fairy congratulations!!

Someone was always going to be first but so glad to hear he is doing well with it being so early. hope you can come back and update us.

OiMissus · 03/10/2011 16:53

to kristy and those with a jungle theme nursery - looky looky here !!!!! the giraffe is a must!

mopsytop · 03/10/2011 18:19

Congrats again Fairy (also saw on support tights thread).

OP posts:
FairyBayleaf · 03/10/2011 18:58

Thanks for all the messages :) I will certainly be keeping you all informed!!!

NorthernChinchilla · 03/10/2011 19:17

Wow Fairy that's amazing! Thought that from beginning of next month we may have someone come early, but you take the gold medal doing it in September!

Massive congratulations to you, and welcome wee Albert. Delighted to hear he's doing so well. And how are you holding up? Good that you're home after such a short while, but it must've been pretty scary- you're sounding impressively non-wibbly though.

Oh, and if you want to post pics you'll find a very willing audience here!

Glad you're back safely as well lala, sounds like you had a fantastic time, although shame no furry hat pics.

Sooo glad the hot weather's going to end shortly- it has been lovely (from about 6pm onwards) but I actually enjoy autumn and winter, and have just felt totally mithered in the heat. Can't wait to look bloody-daft interesting in my big cape and scarf!

kri5ty · 04/10/2011 11:22

fairy congrats!! I bet it was scary, but im so happy he is doing well!!
It really is a miracle how strong they are!! I am filling up im so happy for you!!

oi loving the giraffe!!

lala i have had thrush nearly all the way through this pregnancy... so hardly any sex at all... i honestly don't think the little dude will come out of there lol... i will def start massaging i think!!

HoneyLovesCake · 04/10/2011 11:56

kri5ty haven't had thrush at all during pregnancy but I had it quite regularly before so I started drinking Pau D'arco tea. You can get it at health food shops & it's a miracle worker. Honestly I was a bit Hmm when I read about it in one of the "You are What You Eat" books but I found it cleared me up far quicker than any over the counter meds. As I said though I haven't had to drink it during pregnancy so far so I don't know if it's considered safe or not...too be honest it probably falls under the "untested" group of supplements you have to make your own mind up about; I doubt anyone's bothered to put the effort in to check it as it's not that common

kri5ty · 04/10/2011 18:26

honey thanks for that, I will look out for It! Mentioned It to mw, who said I can use the cream and pessary, go to gps so I can get in on prescription. I forgot to mention it at the gps, so just went to the chemist but they refused to sell it me... despite me pointing out on canestons website its safe!

NorthernChinchilla · 04/10/2011 19:26

What a cruddy thing to get kri5ty, must've made you really uncomfortable. Sex has been pretty off the cards here too, just because DP appears to be in the 'not whilst you're pregnant' camp. Which is annoying, but to be honest I've not felt too much like it. The only hormonal rushes I get at the moment tend to end in spots, not a desire to jump him Grin.

Have just booked pedicures for this weekend, and one each at the beginning of November and December. Little place on the corner does them, and at £18 for 45 minutes, it's a nice affordable luxury- and a necessity, as I can't reach them myself any more!

DP and I agreed he would not do them, given that he thinks a Swiss Army penknife is the correct implement to use...Confused

kri5ty · 05/10/2011 14:23

haha i am imagining a swiss army knife near my footsies... to be honest mine are that horrible i think one would do them some good!!

I haven't really felt like sex to be honest, but im unsure if thats due to the fact it has been so rare during the past 7 months... i just feel bad for him!!

Has anyone tried one of those home foot spas? Im very tempted!!

OiMissus · 05/10/2011 16:48

I have been thinking about sex just recently... (oo-err!)
He is off the idea too. I'm too tired and grouchy at night to be interested either. But I don't think that it's doing us any good. We are not as intimate/close as we were before. We kiss and touch a lot - but just in passing - if you get what I mean. With me being grouchy at night, and itchy, and going to bed earlier than him - it's very much "I vant to be alone" - I feel like I'm pushing him away, and it's affecting how I feel about him. It's getting easier to not have him near. I think a concerted effort is needed this weekend to get cosy and make time for the lurve. Shock
