Had to start a new thread, as our old one got too big to post anymore.
yay figgy - your scan sounds great! A wee boy - now you only have to think about boy names. Woohoo.

We'll definitely be keeping this thread going after the births - we'll have to help eachother cope with new babies - and sooner than we think!
I'm 30 weeks today. That's gotta be 7 months pg, right?
Yowzers!
I stopped by Mamas and Papas on the way home last night. :) Mid season sale. Bought a gorgeous dress with stripey leggings for my SIL (she's due in jan/Feb), some crib and moses basket sheets, a dreampod (sleeping bag baby thingy - you know what I mean) and a very cute "My 1st Christmas baubel". And I added another piece of furniture to our order and negotiated 35% off. :) We can't build the nursery until we get a new house, but there's room for a tallboy next to the crib in our room - so I'll have somewhere to put nappies/clothes etc. :)

figgygal · 23/09/2011 13:04

29 weeks today!! God it has felt like an age to get here. Next week feels like one of those big milestones again, looking forward to it.

Oi i would like a first christmas trinket not buying the little mite pressies this year but something like that would be nice. Will have to look out for something similar.

Sorelip · 23/09/2011 13:56

I had medical students round today, and I was reassured by one of them that the postnatal ward at the hospital I'm giving birth in is actually OK, with a lot more midwives and help with breastfeeding than I thought, so that's helped me relax a bit.

I'm really tired and hungry today. Having to actually get out of bed for a certain time has wiped me out!

LondonGirly · 23/09/2011 16:37

Oimissus I'm 30 weeks too and going with being 7 1/2 months pregnant, only 10 weeks until our due dates!! Argh!!!

I have a horrid cold at the moment, feeling sorry for myself and have to go into school tomorrow for an open day. Am going to spend all day apologising for sneezing!

I got something through from the local midwives yesterday about a breastfeeding support group which is good to know about.

OiMissus · 23/09/2011 17:35

figgy we aren't planning on buying prezzies for GingerBaby either. Everyone else will take care of that! Am thinking that if he arrives early enough, and I have the energy, then I'll make a Christmas card for close friends and family with his pic - so I'll pose him with his baubel. Grin (6.50 from m and p). He'll probably get lots of first baubles for Christmas!

NorthernChinchilla · 23/09/2011 20:33

My mother's threatening the Santa outfit from Mothercare...she's a dead woman if she does! Grin Will probably pose with him by the tree or something.

Londongirly, I'd got it marked down anyway, but have now got my letter from the Doc's- flu jab. We're all due it owing to being pregnant, and with a few exceptions sounds like we're all in jobs, or have commutes where we'll really need it. I'm going to get mine asap, and I think given your proximity to the germ bags lovely children on a daily basis you'll need it too!

OiMissus · 24/09/2011 17:30

I'm booked in for my flujab at 16:48 on Monday. Bizarre time!

OiMissus · 24/09/2011 17:33

Incidentally, mamas and papas also have lots of Santa suits etc., if someone is threatening such silliness, in the range they have a cute White sleepsuit which says "my first Christmas" - which is not so cheesy. Smile

Awomancalledhorse · 24/09/2011 17:37

Oi, I have my flu jab booked; anytime between 9.30-9.45 next Sat Grin
Tesco are offering it to non-due it people for £10, so going to nag DH to get it so I don't catch something from him!

If my PIL buy the Squatter anything for Christmas I will in their general direction, because sods law means it will not bother making an appearance until after X-mas.

Anyone doing anything nice this weekend? Rugby & F1 is as exciting as it's getting for me!

OiMissus · 24/09/2011 18:29

Three loads of washing so far, changed sheets, tidied house for viewers, played trivial pursuits with DH (I wonGrin), napped... Nope, nothing exciting, very dull so far!

NorthernChinchilla · 24/09/2011 20:15

16:48? That is bizarre, I have images of you all lined up and a nurse just going along and jabbing you all in the arm.

Thanks for the tip Oi, I shall send my mother in that direction. To be fair, she is knitting him piles of really lovely, tasteful stuff, (and is a lovely, tasteful person!) but just always aims for one silly thing. The pair of us used to go out on a Xmas eve pub crawl wearing antlers, so think it's in that vein.

Have so far scrubbed bathroom and shower room, made dough for pizza and washed all the throws. Had lie in and nap owing to waking in the middle of the night with screaming cramp, which I know has been a favourite experience of other December first timers. And went and looked at chests of drawers for baby's room.

Truly, the life of a pregnant woman is one long excitement Grin!

NorthernChinchilla · 24/09/2011 20:16

Oh, and tomorrow we'll be doing more cleaning, plus writing a report for work and making a vat of minestrone...can't cope with the thrilz!

NorthernChinchilla · 25/09/2011 17:19

Today was as exciting as expected, only I got to give the garden a haircut too. Next weekend we're planning a trip to the dump....

To be fair, we have got the baby's room more sorted, although nothing to the level of kri5ty!

28 week scan Tuesday, so will have the excitement of having bump measured I think- was told at scan that baby was on the larger side, and was told when bump was measured last week that it was two weeks under, so wonder what it'll be this time?

mopsytop · 26/09/2011 11:38

Hi everyone, hope you had a good weekend. My study/baby's room is slowly turning back into dumping ground/laundry room. This needs to stop! Everything needs to have a proper home by the time the baby gets here, not just a oh-can't-be-bothered-to-tidy-this-away-so-will-dump-in-the-study. Got given a baby bouncer thing at the weekend by my husband's aunt, which is great. She had it for her grandkids. I wanted one but I haven't bought anything yet and can't be doing with all the choice! There are so many versions of everything and it wrecks my head. Too much choice is nearly as bad as too little!

OP posts:
Kitty5824 · 26/09/2011 13:16

mopsy, totally agree about there being too much choice for EVERYTHING!! We've been lucky so far, as a lot of stuff is second hand from friends, but we need to make a decision about a pram soon....

I booked today off as had a big weekend, my baby brother (31!) and husband had their birthdays on Thursday and Sunday, and my lovely mum paid for all 4 of us "kids" (incidently SIL is due in March so we're milking the kids thing for the next 3 months - we won't be the youngest generation anymore!!) to go to Ronnie Scotts Jazz club in Sat night to celebrate.

It was awesome, but the train jurney from Manchester-London was uncomfortable (my back rather than any actual problem with the train), mooching round the shops is now incredibly tiring, and although the girls had a nap whilst the boys watched the united game, it was a really late night - we went to the late show which started at 11pm. 4.30am and we were still up.

I'm now feeling really lazy as other than doing some washing I've done nothing so far today...

Awomancalledhorse · 27/09/2011 00:35

Shock 3 more days and there will only be two MN ante-natal groups left before it's our turn to starting churning out babies (have just been reading through the September AN thread and it dawned on me)!

Has anyone else started thinking about freezing meals/batch cooking etc? Think I've got an exciting month chained to the oven in my future!

HoneyLovesCake · 27/09/2011 10:01

Hey ladies can I join you? Didn't realise there was a first timers bus.

I've been reading back through a few pages & I know lots of you from the December thread but for those I don't: I'm expecting DC1 somewhere around my EDD of 2nd December. Hoping for a very low intervention home hypnobirth assuming my scan goes well in 10 days time & my placenta has moved up. I'm a Londoner but I live in deepest darkest Cornwall with my DP, 3 cats & 2 dogs.

NorthernChinchilla · 27/09/2011 11:13

kitty I feel the same- nothing as exciting as a night out in a club, just working late last night, but feel knackered today. The stamina's just gone, and doing anything even marginally out of the ordinary-like travelling up North to see family- leaves me tired the next day.

Had 28 wk scan today, all fine, and baby as usual shows off for the MW by fidgetting and kicking around...has settled down now of course.

I have thought about the meals issue AWCH- it's on my to do list! I've planned to spend the week and a half between mat leave starting and having baby chained to stove, making soups, pie fillings, OH is going to do up spag bol, etc. Have no intention of doing anything but sit on a sofa breastfeeding and being fed by OH post birth, so need to stock up.

Welcome Honey, good to have another aboard. Really hope the placenta moves up for you. Will that be the deciding factor ref your homebirth?

OiMissus · 27/09/2011 12:55

I have a plan to start eating or clearing out the contents of the freezer now to make room. I suppose I'll start batch cooking sometime in November. And I will also give the instruction to family and friends that they can't visit the new baby without bringing a steaming pot of something. :)
Gift for baby (not necessary - but they will anyway), food for me. :)

figgygal · 27/09/2011 13:19

I need to think about this cooking malarkey mainly because i cant and more importantly cant be arsed luckily DH is self employed and works from home so he always put the tea on before i get home from work wont have that excuse soon.

Disappointed i bought a smart work dress the other week but havent worn it since as was huge on me, tried it on this morning and not only does it now fit the bump is pulling it up and i am too scared to walk up the stairs at work today seems very short even with thick tights on. I think being tall has helped me as my bump not too big but really doesnt help with clothes.

HoneyLovesCake · 27/09/2011 15:59

Yes Chinchilla the placenta is the deciding factor unless another medical reason comes up. I'm pretty positive about it though, it was low lying but not covering & I've had no bleeding to suggest a problem. Basically I'm not willing to leave the house to birth for anything less than medical reasons & I will be writing a letter to the supervisor of midwives saying so (once I've had my scan) because they're quite short-staffed & I've already been told they're happy for me to have a homebirth if someone is available which I don't think is good enough really. Hmm

Really wouldn't want to rely on DP to feed me post-birth so I'm going to start filling up the freezer over the next few weeks; I got a chest freezer from freecycle so I've got loads of space. had planned on doing it in November but I've been feeling so big & uncomfortable this week, I hate to think how I'll feel in 4-5weeks :(

NorthernChinchilla · 27/09/2011 16:28

Hhehehhehe @figgy and the cooking.

Sounds like you've got it sorted...and if DH has always done cooking...well, even if you're at home on mat leave, by that point you'll be too tired and uncomfortable to possibly do any cooking, so he'll have to continue- sorted!Grin

Fingers crossed for you honey that the placenta moves up. Agree it's a good idea to get something in writing ref your homebirth. You don't want to be in some sort of limbo, and then to be told when it all kicks off there's no-one available- that's pants. They tend to take things more seriously when it's in black and white in front of them.
Would you have any chance of hiring an independent MW if it came to the crunch?

HoneyLovesCake · 27/09/2011 16:51

According to the AIMS website no PCT has been reported not to send a midwife if you stand your ground & I'm stubborn as hell....they all have a "bank" of midwives they can call on if they're really short-staffed. I don't think I'd be willing to pay for something I'm entitled to anyway. At my 28 week appt my lead MW who is lovely told me that 2 community MW's retired last year & they decided not to replace them to save money Shock

NorthernChinchilla · 27/09/2011 19:24

Sounds like you should be OK then. I have to say I've not heard of anyone being refused a MW for a homebirth- the only issues I've come across is with SiL, where she wanted to have a HB, but when in labour they persuaded her to come to hospital to check her over, and then she never left. She felt she was 'held' there- certainly wasn't the birth she wanted.

mopsy am soooo with you on the 'everything needs to have a home' business. Baby has given a great excuse for this, and OH can't argue back. Seems to be doubly mean if it's your space for study and the baby's room that ends up being dumping room....unless it's you doing the dumping as well?!

By the way, does anyone else feel like they've got a shelf under their boobs, especially when sitting down? I still can't get my head around the fact that I've got months of getting even bigger....

figgygal · 27/09/2011 19:57

Northern I just said that in the other dec thread seem to have doubled in size today all physical activity difficult and sitting uncomfortable........ 10 more weeks whaaaaat
